i think that's a strong description of what he actually said. it was a very brief portion of it, and he didn't really accuse him of anything. i feel like it's a valid thing to get his opinion on, given the strange composition of his supporters. now the interviewer approached it in a kind of stupid way because he said, "do you need to do more to distance yourself from those types of people?" he's already commented on it, and how is he responsible for the opinions of people who mention his name? so dumb approach to the question, but i didn't personally see it as saying he's the choice of white supremacists or that he's alt right.

i've been wanting to see more championing of the fjg among all the excitement about ubi. i've always thought fjg was a much better idea, though they bring up an interesting point about them being complimentary rather than mutually exclusive. and i totally agree with her about having the right to work.

true. seems ideal for static file hosting, but i can see how that would be a problem for sites under rapid development, or even standard bugfixes and new features. going to start reading more about this - i'd really like to see decentralization become a standard.

yea i think i misunderstood. read about block storage and the immutable hashes and the way they described how nodes don't need to trust one another, and it sounded like a ledger to me. but i don't think that's quite right.

just another confounding piece of the puzzle.

why didn't the feds investigate the "hack?" crowdstrike saying conflicting things like they don't have hard evidence and the attackers used built in windows tools to evade detection, and yet they are able to place the blame on a specific russian hacking group and assert exactly what they were targeting. interesting article though i'm not exactly sure how credible everything this guy says is - but interesting things to think about. but in crowdstrike's own write up about this, they post the malware used. but i thought they used built in windows tools? they also don't explain how the malware was used. and they claim they know they were searching for opposition research on trump, but i don't believe that was a part of the leaks.

former 30-year nsa employee and whistleblower, bill binney, also claims that the data transfer speed closely matches transfer over usb rather than network data transfer. there's a video where he goes into more detail but i can't remember where - may have been a unity4j interview.

obviously, i have no idea what is actually going on, but i sure would appreciate the truth. and this information the ukrainians are talking about (if they even have any) may be unrelated to the dnc hack, but it's really hard to tell what's going on with all of this. i was actually just reading some things that said the feds did investigate the dnc hack, so i'm not sure about that one - i've heard people say different things.

edit: ah so here it is found a bunch of sources saying the fbi was denied access. that's so fucking weird.

ipfs sounds really interesting. haven't read much about it - what prevents a malicious node from attacking users?

like someone's node saying they have the website you're looking for, but they've added additional malicious code.

edit: oh cool i found this. they use immutable hashes for content. https://medium.com/@yaniv_g/hosting-websites-on-ipfs-with-ipns-b94659c42b52

though according to this person's explanation, you might have to check the hash yourself manually? doesn't seem like that would be hard to automate. couldn't you kick a node off the network if they have a different hash or just not connect users to that node if the hash doesn't match the content hash of what they're trying to access.

i was a minor version and a couple of builds away from getting rekt by this one.

looks like a dev account was compromised, and there was code added to the gem that would allow malicious code to be sent through the http-cookie header and executed on the server with eval.

that's very troubling. i think it's important for people to become more comfortable talking about this sort of thing, but it's so disheartening, though not surprising, that it's being capitalized by these corporations. while i'm sure some people benefit from these medications, that would be a small subset compared to how many people are pushed to them. i was finally able to stop taking my anti-depressants about six months ago after taking them for ten years. i wish i had spent that time learning and practicing coping skills - and i'm not sure how much they ever helped anyway. fuck these companies.

from my perspective, it's probably because it's using a deprecated python framework and a weird html templating language that comes with it. i would guess that people creating the other alternatives wanted to use a stack they were more familiar with. in my opinion, having a site that looks like our old reddit is worth it though.

i tend to agree. people have always had trouble looking past the immediate present. it's logical to want to move toward renewable energy without the need for a looming catastrophe. and while i think it's likely that global warming is occurring, i think there is a lot of dishonesty that has come with it.

additionally, even though i believe that it's happening, i'm always willing to listen to and consider thoughtful discussion about it. but climate change is just another stage for the play of completely closing your mind to anyone who doesn't espouse what you believe to the letter. our knowledge of our surroundings is constantly evolving, and the climate is very complex, so i don't understand the thought that anyone could know exactly how and why the climate is changing. more study and discussion is important.

just went on a bill binney interview binge. i've seen some stuff with him before, and i'm aware of his pedigree, but i find myself wondering about his credibility. everything points to him being credible, but what he talks about is even more extreme than the nsa insanity i already knew about. what confuses me is why aren't more people listening to this guy, and why haven't they gone through more trouble to shut him up considering the treatment of other whistleblowers. i know they've brought various charges against him, but surely they could shut him up if they wanted to.

man, i agree with everything i've read in this thread so far. reddit has been disgusting me for a long time. and the censorship lately seems to have taken another step forward. i've looked off and on for other places and have been disappointed everywhere i've looked. it's rare to see a thoughtful, nuanced conversation on reddit, and that's fucking depressing, but this place gives me hope.
