I think "the mainstream media" in the USA were in general dishonest about the efficacy of masks in protecting against the wuhan coronavirus around January 2020. They claimed that masks did not help, but in fact they do. I think this was known at the time and they, or whoever gave them their content, knowingly spread misinformation.

It's a joke

no, it's not "just a joke haha I don't actually have any admiration for stalin/hitler/atrocities what could possibly give you that idea." Look I'm sorry if you've gotten caught up in something gross, but it usually isn't just a joke to the people running these scenes, these sorts of things are usually carefully crafted to make them appealing while hiding true purpose (i.e. actual admiration of Stalin.)

How did you get into this stuff? You don't really seem here for dialogue and positive engagement, y'know? Just to push a certain viewpoint? Is this what your friends like? My friends thought showing people those shock images to disturb people was cool back in the day too, but looking back it really was just gross and wrong.

Stalin killed a lot of people, y'know? Horribly? In real life? Like they're actually gone and won't come back, forever, and people loved them?

[–]comments 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

no not "whatever", it's an appropriation of the term Semitic. I know it's an adjustment but we don't want to do wrong things, right? We should use the word anti-Jewish only when we're talking about negative sentiment regarding Jewish stuff. We should politely inform others that it's the right word to use if they use it incorrectly as happened in OP. I might not be the best at this yet but I think it's a step in the right direction instead of just keeping quiet about it. Semites deserve better than this appropriation.

This sub is basically antisemitism by GreenCappy in Jews

[–]comments 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

"Antisemitic" to refer to people who follow Jewish traditions is an appropriation. Arabs are also a Semitic people, for example. See Semitic language family.

Aryan or European or whatever you want to tall them non-Semitic peoples are uncomfortable with Semitic peoples living among them too much or in too disruptive a way for the same legitimate reasons any group would feel uncomfortable with such an arrangement with outsiders. Same sorts of reasons some people in Israel would like for it to remain predominantly Jewish.

Please use appropriate terminology. I know a lot of people have been taught that "antisemitic" is the correct word, but it's not. The correct word is anti-Jewish, anti-Zionist, anti-Judeist, whatever, unless you're actually referring to a negative sentiment towards Semitic stuff and not just to Jewish stuff specifically.

elite vs. "common people" is also D'n'C. Elites and "commoners" of the same ethnic group are supposed to help and support each other. elites are supposed to be a people's heroes, not their villains. (and it's disturbing how much blatant demonization of "elites" is on this site that ostensibly is meant to be against hateful extremists)

the native populations of europe and the us are very obviously being displaced, and the leftist mob exists to attack that. that's why they attack the men, the police, the government -- those are the parts of the society that most act as its protectors. it's just subversion. sure, a lot of the stuff they bring up to demonize people is real or at least partially true, but that's what happens.. you dig up whatever you can to smear people.

the left does not believe verbatim what I said but reverse, they believe they're justified because racist white men are bad and did bad things in the past colonialism slavery red-lining.

if I've fallen for something it's in falling for the way they want me to be approaching the conflict, being un-informed, indulging in hostility instead of productively handling the situation (these political groups rarely actually do anything, it frustrates me but it seems like a clear indication people are trying to use me for their own aims not trying to fix the situation.) So I think that's a bad thing, but I don't think the two sides can be equated like that. the right-wing is pretty clearly not hostile foreign invaders and are also pretty clearly in their own home their own people built for them.

Introducing /s/PyramidPractice by comments in SaidIt

[–]comments[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

So you say a sub to practice what the entire site is supposed to be about?

I think there's value in setting aside a space explicitly to just practice this, especially on topics that aren't serious or that we otherwise might not even care about that much. Usually the purpose of conversations on SaidIt seems to be primarily focused on the topic, rather than being primarily focused on practicing raising the pyramid of debate.

If it's helpful as practice hopefully that will bleed over into the rest of the site, and people will more naturally actively try to raise the pyramid level of debate in a way they're already comfortable with, rather than just trying to follow the rules or not get caught dragging the pyramid level of debate down.

It seemed like a fun and helpful idea when I had it, so I went ahead and made the sub. Now it's there for whoever wants to try it when they do.

I don't really understand why IP2 is hosted here. It doesn't really seem to align with SaidIt's goals. Afaik IP2 took themselves off the frontpage originally because they just produced far more quantity of content, not because of the type of content. But now it's gotten to the point that they have special rules just for them... it doesn't seem right to me.

IP2 has said they'd be happy to find an alternative home, and that all they would want is time to comfortably make the changeover. There's no reason a parting of the ways would even need to happen on anything but the best of terms -- SaidIt could be proud of giving them a home for a time as fellow refugees from censorship, and they could remember SaidIt as a place that gave them a home as long as it made sense to. Heck, maybe they could even make their own SaidIt clone and mirror content as a sort of federated node eventually.

it's better to have there both white, black and Asian people because kids wouldn't become racist.

No, it's not, it's better for people to be able to have media that's meant for them. And when people shoe-horn in non-euros it's called appropriation, and it's a bad thing.

It's not appropriate for a euro kid to feel like it's not ok for them to relate to and like euro stuff for euro people. Nobody ever does this with media for anyone but euro people. Nobody's going to a syangogue and talking about how we need to insert Aboriginal Australians into the story of Moses in every and all contexts that little Jewish kids here about it so that they won't be -ist against them. Nobody's talking about how it's a problem that African media doesn't not only include but center Saami people and influence in any and all stories they tell about themselves so they won't become -ist against them. Or how Koi-San people need to always be included in tellings of Inuit traditional stories in all contexts. Or why it's wrong for Aboriginal Australians to tell their tales without centering the influence of Lesbians (actual Lesbians, from the mediterranean island) in their history.

I think it's wrong when people do this, and I'm angry looking back at how this was done. At the time, yes, I believed it was a positive thing as stated, but it's increasingly difficult to believe that now with how blatant it's become. Things are celebrated for lacking white people now, even when they center white history! Wakanda was a story about European technology. Look up who Obama chose to do his presidential portrait. I had been so happy when he was elected!

Racist isn't a real concept, it's a political weapon. It's just a concept made to stigmatize white ethnocentrism, that's how it's always functioned. Is anyone seriously trying to do anything about ethnocentrism or ethnic pride in any other group? Latino celebration rather conspicuously tends to avoid celebrating and explicitly connecting to its European half, surely that's a problem? And African American culture certainly isn't taught to value the contributions of Europeans to their development. Nor are Amerindians, whose image is largely associated with something that came to them from Europe -- the horse. Ethnocentrism is a normal, healthy, and necessary impulse and doesn't at all preclude international friendship, alliances, cooperation -- rather the opposite -- good fences make good neighbors, and all that.

Euros are objectively one of the least ethnocentric people on the entire planet. If you want to work on it, I'd suggest starting with Jews. They are among the most. We need to stop telling Jewish stories that don't center non-Jews, because Jews do objectively often think they're better as seen in polls and stuff. If they follow their religion, they dehumanize others as their religion tells them to. If one thinks making judgements about groups in that way is a problem, that is a far more urgent issue.

Or don't pick Jewish culture, whatever, I just get irked with Jewish people doing this kind of thing because of the hypocrisy. And they are one of the most ethnocentric groups. I don't know anything about you, maybe you're a big protestor of Israel or something, I mean in the general context we're all existing in right now. Literally any other group but euros is in bigger need of this alteration to their stories.

yes, exactly.

We are probably going to need to crowdfund a new think tank—a multi-racial, multi-ethnic think tank that can obtain buy-in from various communities

almost like ... a federation?

maybe a sort of united body to manage coordination and cooperation between different states?

imo part of the problem is that people have been aggressively attempting to disrupt this. resulting in things like most churches teaching LGBT ideology now, etc.

still, no excuses, I agree with you.

I'm assuming "cross and crescent" vs "morning star" refers to christianity and islam vs judaism as "the synagogue of satan".

Regarding "morning star":

"luci" (light) - "fer" (carry) means "lightbringer" Lucifer was a Latin name for the planet Venus, which is sometimes visible before dawn. Lucifer was also a pre-Christian deity, and was the son of the dawn goddess Aurora.

The name has been used a few different ways in Christianity.

The social network did not, however, say which tweets Ms Hopkins had posted, to result in the ban.

I miss when the rules applied evenly to everybody -- "treat everyone with respect" -- and there weren't all these special interest groups that got special consideration. I don't like it when people don't treat me respectfully in discourse whether it's because of a protected class attribute or not.

I think I can see why white men are so bothered by all this. They're at the top of the "hierarchy of oppression" ... they have to give special treatment to everyone else but everybody else gets to treat them badly.

[–]comments 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

not all the people out there protesting police misconduct are associated with Marxisism, BLM, Antifa and such

I suppose so. But I think those people are probably being taken advantage of. I saw a video (maybe from here on SaidIt) that showed the somewhat stark difference between what the leadership states they're fighting for and what the average protestor thinks they're protesting. It just really looks to me like this stuff was organized in advance of George Floyd's death death by people with an agenda, to serve that agenda. I think standing against what they're doing is important too. I think people who are interested in protesting police brutality, genuinely, and not the rest of what these people stand for, should organize something that's very clearly separate.

And, respectfully, it seems a bit of an exaggeration to say that "hey protestors, whoever happen to be interested in an article for protestors right at this time, here's something that will help you help you evade accountability" isn't a direct act of support for the current protests going on, effectively providing support for all that they stand for and are doing.

I think police reform and accountability would be great too. I've thought so for a while. I was already on board before all this started -- but I am not on board with looting and destruction ostensibly in the name of improving police accountability! This is absurd, and it is also highly racialized, and unnecessarily racialized.

And I really don't think it's what the neo-massmurdering-communist movement you're talking about is actually about. They state that they are "trained marxists". They have ALREADY perpetrated violent acts. They have ALREADY stated they are willing to do "anything necessary".

I don't think it's arguable that they are a violent, oppressive group built on a movement with a more violent history than naziism. Like, I don't think that's arguable, at all. That's what you're supporting when you support this.

Now you might say violence is justified, which it sounds like is the road you're starting down with "but the state does it too", but that doesn't change the fact that you're advocating violence.

yep. they openly say they will use "any means necessary" ... not sure how this fits with SaidIt's policies against violence. It's not instructions or a call to violence itself, but it is a direct act of support to a group that promotes and uses violence.

[–]comments 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Maybe "exemplary conduct"?

But yeah proper conduct is more what I'm going for.

I think maybe the phrase I'm looking for is "good cop".

Any single example leaves people with a bit of a strange impression though, imo, it's a bit propagandistic either way. We should be gathering information about individual departments accountability information and making that easily accessible so it's easy for the general public to hold the departments accountable, and for everyone to recognize successful practices and learn from them, and for everyone to recognize poor practices and phase them out.

Maybe that could be called "policeaccountability".

Not just reddit, imo. it's strange to me how ... stale most of our political rhetoric is. like... conflicts that occurred long ago, in totally different contexts, we've still got the concepts floating around in our language for.

I'm starting to get annoyed with it. It's like the political parties put on a big show to get elected every 4 years and then everybody just talks those same talking points for the next 4 years even though they're well past their relevance in one particular election campaign.

The thoughts there about coronavirus have shifted some, it's kinda interesting. They were one of the first places I saw trying to grapple with the first information coming out about what the disease was. They thought it was serious. Now mostly what gets posted is "don't let them keep you on lockdown!" type stuff.
