Like the other comments, I would definitely focus on the problematic points of their behavior and hygiene and state that the two of you are simply incompatible with each other.

Regarding the loneliness, maybe you could catch up with some friends, learn a new hobby, or join a club, something that would help you socialize and build new friendships. Maybe joining a discord or participating in a socially distanced yoga class or whatnot.

I’m so sorry you were mistreated like that. I’m sure it felt like a betrayal of trust, especially since you were in a vulnerable position and the psychiatrist is supposed to have your best interests at heart.

I think more people would agree with you here than you think, especially with the idea of feeling discomfort around your body and the way people perceive it based on the expectations and pressure put on people of your sex. I was just an observer over at the gender critical subreddit, but it seemed like there were quite a few GCers there who were supportive of the detrans community and felt compassion and empathy for their pain and confusion.

With the recent GC subreddit ban and all the news regarding the erosion of women’s rights and opportunities, I think a lot of women here are just scared or angry, especially when misogynistic TIMs appear to have more support than half of the population. It doesn’t help that even the most nuanced of arguments, such as J.k. Rowling’s essay, are met with vitriol and cries of “Terf!”

I’m not the best person to speak regarding this because I’m new to the community and feminism. I would like to learn more about radical feminism and establish a good base of knowledge, rather than focusing on reactionary trans ideology posts. I was thinking it might be good to start an online book club to read about and discuss feminism. Do you think that would be a good idea?

I don’t really know anything about this topic, but couldn’t the way we are socialized and respond to our environment affect how our brains develop i.e. neural plasticity?

I’m not surprised, anatomical misinformation of our genitalia, as well as internalized misogyny, is far too common.

Thanks for joining in on the ranting, I’m glad I’m not alone. lol

I totally agree. I was seriously considering the surgery, but I’m glad I did some research first. Websites like the Labia Library, and talking to my gyn, really helped me start putting things into perspective.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves ever. None of my female friends ever talked about our vulvas and any time I heard anything growing up about vaginas or vulvas, it was always boys on the bus talking about “fishy” or “loose” vaginas.

Media/internet also takes part in it by making jokes about being a slut is akin to having a “loose” vagina and using words such as “roast beef” to indicate vulvas with longer labia minora as women who have had sex more. Also, I never knew that merkins (pubic wigs) are used by female actresses to cover themselves up for a nude scene and no one ever mentions it, I just thought they all naturally didn’t show anything and that I was the freak. Even looking up medical information on the internet, you often get pictures of flowers or fruit rather than a vulva.

Even romance novels will use words indicating a “neat and tidy” vulva and indicate that it should “taste like cream.” Let’s not even get started on porn actresses.

It is such bullshit and dangerous misinformation, no wonder labiaplasty cases are on the rise. I didn’t have sex until my mid twenties and you can sure believe that my vulva didn’t look the way media and the internet says vulvas are supposed to look. Growing up, my self-consciousness and negative feelings towards my vulva got so extreme that I literally would have rather had cancer than go to a gynecology office. It took a couple years of sex positive and female friendly sex education for me to feel even remotely ready to go to a gyn, and the first time I went, I cried for two days prior and the day of the exam. It took a full year of working with my partner to get comfortable being naked around him and accept that he wasn’t going to reject me because of my vulva’s appearance

Vulvas are wonderfully diverse in appearance and don’t let anyone ever tell you that the way your vulva looks is not normal or tell you what it should look like. If any guy or woman makes fun of your vulva, or is disgusted by it not looking like their pornified expectations, then you deserve better.

Now take a drink every time I write vulva.

It is totally up to you whether you want to report it to the police, you are completely valid making the choice best for you. No matter what, he was completely in the wrong and you should never feel like it was your fault or feel ashamed for what happened.

I say this not to guilt you, but I would still gently suggest reporting him to the police. Even if he isn’t convicted in this case, having a prior history with the police would make it easier to convict him in the future if he violates another woman and she reports it.

“Girls” is often used as an umbrella term for women and girls nowadays, what do you think of that? I wonder if it’s due to the fact that society prefers younger women to older women or the infantilization of women. I, myself, had a huge self image problem for a while due to the perceived pressure from society to look younger.

I agree that everyone using “female” isn’t saying it with malicious intent.

More importantly, after the reddit ban, I think it’s important not to police people’s speech, to an extent, but I do think it’s good to observe the intent with which people use words.

That’s definitely what it feels like.

To be fair, though, a man told me last year, while I was on the job, “you need to treat ‘em (a piece of machinery) like a woman, because they’re finicky.”

It’s almost like the language itself isn’t the issue. I wonder what it could be... /s

I live in a somewhat similar environment and it’s not super “woke” people that I’ve noticed using it, although I’m sure the obfuscation of the word “woman” and “female” by TRAs, as well as those upholding the new take on gender, will only make it worse. Thank you for providing your perspective.

I think this closely resembles how I’ve noticed it being used. “Ladies,” “girls,” and “females” being used the most, but using “women” or “woman” isn’t as common. And then there’s “womenfolk,” which sounds odd to me at this point.

That’s interesting, thank you for your insight. Why was “ladies” rejected? I hear it everywhere.
