if they called it the electric universe conjecture (or even a hypothesis), they would be taken more seriously. Because a lot of science (and mathematics) begins with a conjecture (a hunch), that then gets studied and becomes a hypothesis that then gets tested and becomes a theory that then gets proven and becomes a law.

If you start out by calling it a theory, scientists know you are not one.

I feel the moderators should be setting a good example and when explaining their official actions should stay within the top two tiers of the debate pyramid. In the above discourse, I don't think they did.

Because if they don't, who will?

The SaidIt organizers should think carefully just what they are offering that is better than Reddit.

Is it lack of censorship? A forum whose primary benefit is lack of censorship soon attracts not only the good people who simply want to post freely, but also many more bad people who simply wants to post freely. The bad people on SaidIt will quickly outnumber the good ones. SaidIt will become mostly a place where bad things are said and done. And the good people will stay away.

To properly compete with Reddit, we need to offer something more than just lack of censorship.

Maybe a better upvote/downvote system that cannot be so easily gamed. Maybe a better user verification system, so a person can't make many accounts and massively upvote himself and downvote others. This is a big Reddit weakness -- too many Sybil attacks.

Maybe better 2FA, like U2F.

Maybe a revision control system, so you can track edits in postings and comments.

Maybe a better search, so you can search within comments.

Maybe the ability to edit titles.

Maybe the ability to embed images.

I'm happy to be one of them.

It would be nice to see some sort of global rule prohibiting or discouraging discouraging click-bait links.
