I find myself conflicted. While resistance to government tyranny is indeed a noble cause, regardless of whether I think such tyranny exists, these people have shown clearly that they are no more than authoritarians in anarchists clothing.

Seeing that this has happened is less than surprising, but the fact that such actions have significant support from politicians makes me genuinely fear for the future of this country.

I pretty much hate it. A good majority of (vocal) people here are extremists, and certain people keep spamming their political opinions and conspiracy theories in non-political subs.

Having said that, it's still basically the best there is right now, considering everything happening elsewhere.

It's far from an unfair point. I think every group has their privileges. Black people, for example, get college grants just for being black. I will say, though, that 'white privilege' is often massively overstated as a way of disregarding personal responsibility. That is not to say we -- white people, I mean -- don't have certain privileges, but that there are also certain detriments to being white.

Mate, I don't exactly always agree with magnora's ideas and tone and such. A good portion of the time he comes off as a massive jerk.

Having said that, this sounds to me like you are just insulting this site and magnora's competence -- however limited that may or may not be -- in order to promote your pseudointelectual ideas and works and prove to yourself that you have some sort of self-defined moral and intellectual high-ground.

I do not support censorship, but when you act like this in every single comment it is entirely understandable how you would be removed. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. This style of writing does nothing but detract from the issue with half-accusatory statements that have very little actual foundation.

According to https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ , there have been about 400,000 deaths from coronavirus. The NYT article they cited said that they expected closer to 100-200,000 people to die, which means that they far underestimated how many people will die.

This isn't even to mention that your link talks about past projections, not actual numbers. Even if we were to incorporate the 100,000 false deaths they spoke about, that would still be upwards of 7-8%.

As a side note, people dying of pre-existing issues or even negligence as a result of corona are still dying of corona. If they would not have died otherwise, they have died because if corona.

I am 100% certain that their death was caused by this, but you seem so utterly convinced that I doubt you'd even consider any evidence legitimate. As such, it is no more than a waste of my time to bother any further.

While you're not technically wrong -- much of the common cold is various strains of corona -- it is far from unheard of for a new strain that we aren't prepared for to be potentially deadly. It was the case with h1n1, and it is much the same case here. It may be easy for you to say that this is just the common cold, but I have seen two aquaintances catch this, one of whom died, and can tell you that this is not your everyday corona.

A good portion of the strains in the common cold are very weak, and can hardly even do so much as to make you realize that you have something.

I was on Reddit for lols and memes not to be bludgeoned with politics and race guilt on every possible fucking sub.

This drove me to the edge years ago -- I don't go to comedy subreddits to hear about your latest political complaint, yet it was always there, usually with more upvotes than active users in the sub.

The only reason I hadn't moved anywhere else is because of a lack of mobile support (and content, but that's to be expected). Saidit, however, has a surprisingly good mobile app, with only one or two issues max, so I thought I'd fully commit. Haven't really regretted it since.

the lack of content is still kinda annoying though

Honestly, I feel like that would just make things worse. A lot of people here tend to join, have a look around, and never come back, so the actual number of active users is probably significantly less. Adding more posts would just lead to being flooded with not submissions and few comments.

Hopefully, as reddit slowly self-immolates, more people will flock here and take up participation. I think the most effective thing we can do is spread the word that this exists.

Why do lawyers train for 7 years to learn the law, but the cops only train for 8 weeks to enforce it? by magnora7 in memes

[–]butterferret12 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Whether you agree with their actions or not, they (police) are not there to enforce the law. They're there to quell disputed and other issues where some level of authority is necessary. After that, it's up to the lawyers -- and by extension judges -- to decide whether what was done, both by the cop and others involved, was legal or not, and whether any consequences should arise as a result.

If a cop had to sit there and decide if the exact scenario breaks or is within a certain part of a law nothing would be done, and their job would be irrelevant and unnecessary.

[–]butterferret12 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

From what I can find, Black does, technically come from proto-indo-european Blac, from which both blanc (shiny, bright) and blæc (dark, burnt) derived. It originally meant something closer to 'lacking color'. In the 16th century there was a shift in the definition towards something dark or 'burnt'.
