What gets me is that a lot of us are pissed off about late stage capitalism (if i may use a Marxist term to differentiate between today and the US 1950s) while there are a lot of people here who buy into the oversimplified narratives and lies of 4 decades of GOP propaganda for the deregulation that has led to this extreme income inequality that's fucking up our lives in the US. There's more to the explanation, but in a nutshell, that's my way of seeing our similar interests on Saidit, and my concern that the considered solutions (several kinds discussed here and at DAR periodically) would nonetheless benefit only the super rich. Working with the democratic system is rarely considered viable, even if it will be difficult. And this of course is why the anti-democratic rhetoric of the right sounds so good to many here.

Thanks for contributing the first comment. For what it's worth, much of what you write here is arguably the opposite. For example:

Every free speech platform becomes right wing relative to society because those in power are pushing [RIGHT WING PROPAGANDA]. With thier power they have pushed society to the far [RIGHT] relative to rationality. Where truth is allowed to be spoken and debated it wins.

The powerful use intersectionality to divide and conquer. They use CRT to subvert thier greatest rival. And they push [FASCISM] to normalize hedonism and bring back pedophilia. They can not be reasoned with, but the useful idiots can.

As far as scaring off users, my experience is that everyone uses insults but to [REPUBLICANS AND FASCISTS] it is far more emotional because they are used to echo chambers that only attack the right. The right is used to it being attacked.

Not only that, the [MAGATARDS HAVE] many walled gardens to run to where they are coddled and congratulated for repeating the party line. The [LEFT HAVE] far fewer places to go, and anywhere they go they encounter paid agitators.

Even if no users ever ran, they would eventually be converted and this website would be "right wing" anyway. The red pill is inevitable.

Greeks had colonies around the Black Sea, which - especially along the east side - was essentially the territory of Scythian. To the west of theblack sea Greek colonies interracted with Scythians and "barbarians", which were Dacians, Thracians, Illyrians, Gauls, Celts, and other groups. Paul knew of these people because he was from Asia Minor (Turkey, Anatolia) and was well aware of the Black Sea trade. People were also trafficked across these colonies. All Greek colonies engaged of course with the Greek mainland, part of which was Asia Minor, even after Roman hegemony in that area. Paul's discussion of the Scythians and the 'barbarians' as two distinct groups is very interesting because it shows their interactions with Greek colonies and with trade c. 900 BCE - 200 BCE, though Paul wrote about them 263 years later, during the period of the Roman administration of the previous Greek colonies. Paul's 'mission' was work with others to convert these groups to Christianity. The ancient heritage of each group was rather different, and thus a challenge for Christain 'apostles' (270+, I think, though that was the intended number and may not have been the actual number). Very different strategies were necessary for the conversion of each group, a process that lasted hundreds of years, with major developments after the 'migrations' period (c. 5th C). To answer your question, I think it was more difficult to convert Scythians and former Scythians to Christianity, but not absolutely sure.

[–]bootylicious 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's a very good form of meditation. Improve the meditation technique and you'll sense the experience. For example, improve the breathing sequence and timing, to get an even rhythm of long sustained breaths. Calming music and incense helps some people, if your place is not normally quiet. Lay flat on the floor or on a 1/2 inch foam mat on the floor. Aim only for the calmness that results in the feeling of weightlessness. The brain will do the rest (if you want an 'astral projection'). Get plenty of exercise and do this when you are somewhat tired, especially at night or first thing in the morning. Good health and blood flow are essential. This for many is a basic form of meditation, rather than 'astral', but perfecting that tecnique is what's necessary for the out of body experience. Another group using this strategy refer to transcendental meditation, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, though it was also a bit of a scam. The meditation scheme was very good however, and helped with the feeling of weightlessness.

There are also very good books on the historical Jesus. I like Bultman's approaches as well as the assessments of the historical Jesus, as we can consider that there were various preachers tortured to death for heresy (sometimes against the Scribes and Pharisees) c. 1 c. BCE - 3 c. CE.

Reddit doesn't have to support the spread of misinformation, nor should it. The content policy is in place to reduce the overtaking ot Reddit by very active, highly funded, misinformation propaganda engines, some of which are run by boomers collecting disability checks while criticizing the liberals who've made possible the disability checks. (Reduce funding for the disability programs and some of this misinformation sharing would go away, while the disabled are forced to find jobs.) A couple years ago I unsubscribed because it had been overrun with misinformation that's spread by the right and/or the 1% perhaps 4 years go. There have been some concerns on the sub that relate to Bernie. And I know that Trump's PR fooled people into believing that he was an outsider, somewhat like Bernie, and thus many Bernie voters were fooled into voting for Trump (who helped push the GOP agenda, as their puppet, harder than ever. I and others knew Bernie was unelecable after the DNC did not support him, and then Hillary failed to campaign properly, while also worrying potential voters. Trump got the anti-abortion vote, which was arguably the main message that turned Christo-fascist voters in his favor. But I digress.) Anyhow: I've visited WatB for years and didn't know what I've learned in the past few days about the sub.

the lack of democraticness in our democracy

Yes - it sucks. We can agree it sucks. We can march in the streets and complain about it. Happy to do so.

What I think most readers are seeing here is an anti-democracy message, in general.

Here's the rub: since the start of democracies in ancient Greece there have been ways of criticizing approaches to all of them. They all have had problems. Not everyone is fairly represented in most democracies, historically.

Her article fits a series of anti-democracy complaints, especially from those who want voters to avoid voting or to throw their votes away on RFK Jr. or similar.

Her article would be much more appreciated if it noted something useful, something she recommends for the voter, something that will work in the US for most voters. I have a few ideas, but you've likely read them.

We would want solutions to the problems in the very limited democracy in the US government: "a federal republic and a representative democracy with three separate branches of government. It has a bicameral national legislature composed of the House of Representatives, a lower house; and the Senate, an upper house based on equal representation for each state."

I think we have to work with what we have.

You refer to the misuse of science. (Skewing the results does not fit a concensus where the scientific method is properly used.) One can write about those who abuse the scientific process, which happens all the time. platonic1 is saying that science is the problem, whereas those who are skewing the data are the problem. And to deal faulty scientific resaerch, only additional scientific research can solve those problems (not the opinions of platonic1). For example, JAMA and other medical journals require the publication of retractions, of which there are many.

Scientific Consensus is extremely fallible by [deleted] in whatever

[–]bootylicious 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Science is a fact-finding process ("the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment"). Self-affirmation is not science. It's thus not about personal opinion or the self. Science is about facts, not people. Perhaps you're thinking of social studies. I've responded to this post by platonic1 because this questioning of science, facts, knowledge, scholarship, scientific research and the rest of it is one of the most absurd and egregious assaults on humanity in the Republican arsenal of misinformation and disinformation propaganda. If you can get people to argue over facts (as is happening in recent years), you can get them to do anything, at the expense of the 99%. It's evil. And for those who don't want to believe in facts, they should also avoid hospitals, cars, airplanes, phones, and any other place or thing that exists because of science.

Good therefore that the scientist removes - as much as possible - any biases from the scientific method he/she uses. Mathematics cannot lie. And the corrobration of scientific evidence across a discipline and around the world is another way to confirm accuracy. What is extremely fallible is one's opinion, which is not related to science, or in some cases not related to facts.

I think Jewish merchants in Alexandria, Jerusalem, Damascus, and around Mediterranean provided opportunities for the sharing of ideas and literature before and during the Roman empire, and that Philo's approaches were known especially among Hebrew scholars. Philo and some others at the time addressed the moral significance of one's logos and ingenium (root of 'genius') because these were intermediaries between the divine and human, and were part of the soul. Applying a moral purpose to one's ingenium (to beget, to begin) in this way would foreshadow Christian claims that there were good and bad angels. One's logos and ingenium in this new hermeneutic had a moral dimention that could be used to control what was considered one's legitimate logos or ingenium, thereby potentially controlling information on religious terms. (Part of this is discussed very briefly in the book, 'Logodaedalus' (Pittsburgh, 2018)).

Do you see the New World Order? by In-the-clouds in conspiracy

[–]bootylicious 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No. God has been Nature. There have been sky gods, but they've been attached to the natural order of the world. Christ and preachers like him at the time taught eastern religion, focusing in his case on Buddhism. Many of his quotations are copies of sayings of the Buddha (there are good books on it). The evangalists and other New Testament writers were of course Jewish scholars who grew up with the Talmud and Pentateuch and other Jewish resources. Thus the New Testament is a Jewish interpretation of Christ, albeit for a reformed Church. This is natural because the historical Jesus was supposedly a Palestinian Jew, living in an occupied (Roman) Palestine. Making matters worse, the Scribes and Pharisees created additional problems in Palestine, potentially inspiring Christ and others like him to take up preaching the popular "eastern religion" which was essentially Buddhism. Greek and Roman trade with Bactria (and Gandhara) in the previous 300 years influenced these new religious approaches in Palestine.

I doubt this intention matters to 'shelled' users. The result is not dissimilar to this

I'm actually quite concerned with the trend whereby children want to determine their sexual orientation before they're 18, and the tolerance of that idiocy.

What makes matters worse is the politicization of that problem, for the sake of additional Republican votes.

We agree entirely that there is a serious problem.

I'm not going to agree with anyone that a person can be murdered by gender ideology.

It's an opinion, by someone who made a graph to display that opinion. (I'm surprised I have to explain this.)

That opinion is that the distribution of booster shots, as well as deaths were somehow in similar peaks and troughs, which is impossible. Booster shots and deaths are not periodic, they're in broader trends that are not punctuated. Booster shots have been offered over a long 2 year period in Japan, without interrruptions. Deaths are also not interrupted.

Thank you, but this:

Here is the admission that the Ukrainian labs are very far from harmless, and at a minimum contain hazardous material that can be used as a biological weapon

Is false.

So do bio labs exist inside Ukraine, and is the US supporting them?

Yes, and yes. Ukraine does operate biological laboratories that receive US funding. The US undersecretary of state Victoria Nuland affirmed those facts in a Senate foreign relations committee hearing this week, in which the Republican senator Marco Rubio asked directly if Ukraine had biological weapons.

Nuland did not answer the question head on. “Ukraine has biological research facilities,” she said, adding that there was concern that Russian forces were trying to gain control of the labs. “We are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces.”

Nuland’s comments were seized upon by far-right commentators as evidence of a secret plot. In fact, US funding to the laboratories had its roots in the fall of the Soviet Union, after which money was pumped into Ukraine and other countries to help them transfer scientific skills away from weapons towards public health.

The scheme was originally known as Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) but is now more commonly referred to as biological engagement. It has been successful in helping former Soviet and other countries fulfill public health obligations.

“This is one of the best things that we do,” Dr Gigi Gronvall, senior scholar at Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, told the Guardian.

Most of the work of the Ukraine labs today, Gronvall said, involves surveillance of diseases in animals and people as an early-warning system for illnesses such as African swine fever, which is endemic in the region.

“We know pathogens don’t respect borders, so helping to put out public health fires before they become too big is an advantage to all of us,” she said. Do the Ukraine laboratories store dangerous biological agents?

As part of their work the labs do seem to hold dangerous pathogens. We know that because WHO is urging Ukraine to destroy any highly dangerous agents to avoid the risk of a disastrous outbreak should one of the labs be hit by Russian forces.

Nothing in my responses is emotional or compares with your long essays of whining and misinformation. You're depending on disinformation and misinformation in order to support the bombing, displacement, kidnapping, raping, torturing, flooding, and murdering of millions of innocent Ukrainians by Putin's war criminals. It's simple: there's no excuse for any of this. None. You've got nothing that excuses Russian war crimes. Hence I ask: what's wrong with you? Or to put it another way: what specifically is redeemable about you? Anything?

No - not at all what happened.

10 Saiditors commented on the turtle tax, and 3 Saiditors were particularly annoyed, noting how insulting it is and how moderators apply it for obviously frivolous reasons, to attack people who disagree with the WatB hive mind, and the shelled users assume it's a permanent penalty, and thus shelled users do one of two things:

1) Leave (because they don't want to be insulted with the 'I like turtles' tag that identifies them as hated users)

2) Stay on WatB because they have absolutely no self respect.

As we've discussed at length, Inuma, the standard practice is a temporary ban (noting a week or a month), rather than this permanent shelling insult against a user who merely does not agree. (Yes, you note that it's not permanent, but the new user who is shelled is not told that (another example of very bad management). WatB has dwindled from 90,000 subscribers to Saidit's 45 WatB subscribers, half of which are active, partially because of these insults, and also because WatB is mostly devoted to spreading misinformation, as we've seen for years.) Hope this brings people up to date. There was no brigading, by any stretch of the imagination.

Why focus on Biden? Have you ever played chess? Even a pawn can be very important in the game. There are numerous candidates to consider, many of whom need donations and other forms of support, and some of whom are arguably worthy for the job as politician. Step 1: elect new people and get the old ones out. Biden will be the only option if Trump or DeSantis are nominated - its that simple. You can predict now that the DNC will nominate Biden. So, move on, look at other candidates. Work with what's available. Help with the strataegy for your favorite candidates. Because you're in a blue state, your options are of course limited, but I'd argue that you have good Dems to choose from. Replace Pelosi, already, ffs. It's just another way to get rid of people you don't agree with, only more insulting, and not temoporary, as are most bans. Out of 90000 previous Reddit subscribers you now have 30 on Saidit (eg. 18 here now), so it's not really worked out for WatB, seems to me. But the real reason 99% of your original subscribers have left is because the sub title leads one to a sub primarily filled with misinformation peddled by the .01% (anti-vax, anti-Ukraine, anti-democracy, anti-government, anti-education, anti-everything, which encourages people to not vote or throw away their votes on unelectable candidates like RFK Jr.).

Sudo is well known in our community for satire. Congratulations for falling for it.

So visitors to WatB should be warned that its posts are not on good faith? Got it.

This shows you're only thinking about what you said, not my responses.

Makes no sense. I responded to all of your points.

For the life of me, I don't understand how being banned is somehow a sense of pride and accomplishment but it makes the point you want us to conform more than anything else.

Also makes no sense. No one is discussing pride.

That's what you're saying.

No

We took ourselves off. So get your facts straight.

How would anyone on Saidit or WatB know that? Most on Saidit seem to assume in the comments that magnora removed WatB from /r/all.

You're a damn liar. Kindly don't try to speak for a community you weren't a part of and didn't watch out grow for years which is the point you're missing.

I've been a Bernie supporter and on WatB (Reddit) since the beginning. I saw the transition from Bernie supporters to the sub overrun by misinformation that serves the right wing. That's the change in 'The Way' you talk about it, and many on Reddit have discussed it. It's been bloody obvious. 95% of your orignal subsribers are long gone, just as a similar percentage are no longer at Saidit. That's also very easy to understand.

Just like you missed the fact that this sub has been around for 5 and we grew it without this weird notion it was somehow different when it's been a part of Saidit just as long.

I didn't miss anything. It's obvious WatB doesn't want to admit to it that's been conned by the anti-democracy, anti-government, anti-science, anti-everyting misinformation and disinformation that's helping the .01% get rich while you don't vote for electable candidates. One of your members noted they're voting Green party, for example. GOP want you to divide the Democrat vote. Green party only have seats in Parliamentary governments.

Yeah... We went through 2016 and 2020 calling that out.

Good - then you know the name of the sub is a hijacking of Bernie's name for the sake of highly paid misinformation propaganda - and thus WatB is entirely unrelated to anything Bernie has worked for (for the 99%) his entire career.

Anyway... I'm moving on. Looks like you came to the same rigid notions and ignored what was stated to come to the same stale conclusions as before.

Doesn't make sense. 'Rigid' does not desribe my arguments that WatB should be less rigid.

None of that has anything to do with this discussion.

Yes it does: "This sub has the most draconian censorship on the internet. I like turtles." IE. WatB can't easily adjust to the /r/all requirements

It's you venting about your situation and trying to have Way people conform to Saidit when they do things differently.

Nothing in my comments can be called 'venting', not in the least. Nor did I tell anyone to conform to anything. I just noted that it would be easy to get onto /r/all . That's it. No skin off my nose.

You're the one coming here to tell us to comply with the rules. Same with Larry the e-peen or Zapped yelling about us instead of sitting down with us to discuss what we do and why and how we can all make this place better.

See my previous comment. Larry is an idiot and Zapped doesn't have much skin in the game. The only one to contact for /r/all is magnora7 . WatB's unfamiliarity with Saidit has resuled in WatB getting kicked off /r/all. I PMed penelopepnortney to let her know I can offer a strategy that would likely work, and I introduced penelopepnortney to magnora7. I have no other interest or role. I am just finding this interesting.

You don't have to like the Turtle Tax, but don't take the words of a 4chan edgelord as gospel when coming to us when we have moderation topics in our sidebar.

Doesn't matter what I think of anything, nor do I know anything about 4chan, other than its existence.

Finally, we're used to being a far larger community than anything on Saidit.

OK...

Before it was closed down, we had 90000 subscribed to the Reddit sub and affiliates had successful growth in their respective subs that we hadn't touched.

90k, most of whom had been subscribed at an earlier time, especially when it was ACTUALLY a sub related to Bernie's politics, and before it turned into a misinformation-sharing site for the right. Saidit has assumulated 40k subscribers, 99% of which are gone now. Saiditors and WatB users can be difficult to get along with, apparently.

Some of us practice diplomacy and take it seriously.

Good

If what you want to do is come to us with conformity, you might as well try to herd cats.

I've not mentioned anything related to conformity. Per the present topic, it's WatB that wants Saiditors to conform to shadowbans on its sub, which got it kicked off /r/all because shadowband are problematic on several levels. There is LESS conformity in /r/all.

But if you want to stay to see us grow, it's up to you. If not, that's your choice.

I'm not important, nor is this about me. I am not a typical Saiditor or WatB user by any stretch of the imagination. I merely like to see how groups are organized and function. I am here for alternative discussions. That's all. I've been at Reddit for 15 years, and Saidit for almost 3 years.

We'll still follow The Way.

Do consider how much 'The Way' at WatB is entirely unrelated to anything Bernie has worked for (for the 99%) his entire career. WatB is primarily supporting the 1%s misinformation propaganda. This is why it's a perfect fit for Saidit. No, it doesn't have to 'conform' to rigid rules. Instead, it has to follow the usual Saidit guidelines like the rest of us, which are not that rigid, nor are admins and mods doing much to restrict speech (unless you call for violance or share porn). That's all I'm saying.

These white people you think are villains are simply trying to preserve their culture.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to ethnically disconnect so-called "white" people from so-called non-whites in the US. It's all one culture. CULTURE is not the word you want to use. You are arguing for ethnic DNA testing, so that the "white" descendent of Thomas Jefferson who's great great great... grandmother was black can be excluded from the DNA proven melanin deficient "white" assholes who think they're different. The fact is, everyone is somewhat mixed. This discussion at DAR usually descends into being racist about fewer and fewer people, until one ends up at Sub-Saharan Africa. All of the groups considered non-wite that are not Sub-Saraharan are excluded eventually from the usual "who is white" dialectic. It's REALLY FUCKING STUPID, not to mention MEAN to one's fellow man and in violation of the golden rule. If you don't like blacks, just say so. So-called "whites" cannot claim to have an exclusive 'culture' or 'ethnicity'. Eugenics failed in the early 20 century and won't return for reasonable people. That said, there are some who want to be pure Hebrews, or pure Japanese, or pure Native American, or whatever. But even in these groups there are exceptions for the relative who fucked someone of a different ethnicity.

1st comment at Yahoo (fucking Yahoo):

They banned all flags but the US flag, State Flag, POW flag, and one other from being flown on public grounds. They didn't just ban the pride flag.

So their policies agree with Saidit's Murican Taliban policies, and in any event I don't see any problem with limiting the number of flags to just 4 representative examples.

There are at least 6 common mental disorders, and numerous ways to piss off a kid. If I were to say a kid's interest in Barbie dolls caused her suicide because she had Anorexia nervosa or just because she thought she was fat, I'd be wrong, just as wrong if I assumed a kid killed herself because she didn't like not being a boy. It's normally impossible to claim that a person killed her/himself because of ONE problem. The girl you mention required psychological treatment. It's that simple. Her lack of ability to get well is what caused her suicide.

timed government recommendations and campaigns

But the distribution is NOT immediate. Those 'timed' processes take months, so it's a lie to assume that there are any sharp peaks in boosters and deaths.

I'll ask one more time

And the answer one final time: I've made a logic argument.
