I think if you tell enough people they might be transgender some of them will get their dicks cut off. If, on the other hand, you had never told them there was such a thing, they would never have come up with the idea to do so.

As such spreading transgender ideas should be similarly viewed as infecting people with HIV on purpose.

Why would anyone want to interact with a drug addict or a cop?

Let's not pretend that society has lost anything of value when Floyd died and let's not pretend that society lost anything when the cop was stabbed in prison.

The black community just used Floyd for some nightly "shopping" at Walmart; that was their great moment of social justice. Well, you go girls! The idea that black lives matters is not exactly supported by facts. Sure, they might count to make the NFL work, but I am sure there would still be a league with non-blacks. Is it their huge scientific contributions then? Oh, wait! Those hardly exist. It's not like there ever was a black Einstein (no, NDT doesn't count).

I have the impression that a lot of people have hated Jews throughout history and perhaps this is just because they were smarter and thus capable of more evil. In a way, one group of slightly more stupid people is just jealous about all the ways Jews have fucked them over throughout the ages. If someone knows of a good book about what the exact historical reasons are for hating Jews, that would be great; Jews have been hated before "Gaza" was a thing.

The police community consists of corrupt morons, which only exists because most citizens never get to experience their corrupt asses. If more people would just open their eyes for a change, they would have laws to allow a citizen to legally murder every cop in the street that didn't follow the law to the letter.

The idea that citizens should respect the police comes from ancient times; the modern cop is a true asshole in its heart. The law should be changed such that cops can't just be held personally responsible, but that capital punishment would only require a small abuse of power.

Study finds 40-60% of men have man boobs - but what is actually causing it? by [deleted] in news

[–]binaryblob 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Many antidepressants also cause man boobs, so that would account for 10% or so. Since all those end up in the water supply and many water treatment plants do not fully eliminate all medicine, it's possible that the population effects are much greater.

Skin contact with plastics (think smart phones) also generated female hormones, which results in boobs.

I think gen Z men are more feminine. I literally don't know anyone I would consider a "traditional man" in that age bracket. There is an island near the coast in India; I expect those men to be real men like God (note: fictional character) intended.

[–]binaryblob 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Don't call it AI. Just calls them LLMs. LLMs are good at text summarization and combining linear combinations of whatever. They don't work for anything else.

I tried a couple of different major LLMs.

It's possible to have them write somewhat useful computer programs, but they need a lot of handholding. It is absolutely impossible to make them do anything that would require extensive knowledge or expertise.

Basic math as used in physics calculations is way beyond these LLMs already.

For domains in which there is a lot of text available with a linear progression and a smooth function. Take for example "tell me the hair color of the main characters of the book 'The LOTR'" would be something I would expect these systems to work for.

The complexity of the functions that LLMs can solve is low.

I have never seen a LLM solve any problem of interest; having said that, almost no human does anything of interest either.

I think it would be really difficult to convince yourself you are a woman when you have a dick or no uterus.

It should be considered a brain disease, even though it's not curable right now. I have no doubt there is a bunch of genes that might switch on or off that tell your brain how you are supposed to feel, but that doesn't mean it would be reasonable to not consider the wrong states to be a disease.

How do the actual scientists see this? I mean, of course, they can't say on national television that all trans people are in fact sick, but perhaps they publish the same in some journals or something (which nobody reads anyway).

I feel like a paria when going alone to a bar. I am apparently the kind of person where people ask whether they can "use that chair", not someone that they ask to join their party or whatever.

I simultaneously crave human contact and at the same time I don't like or almost always hate every human I have ever talked to in my life for longer than an hour. That used to be different, but I am now quicker at finding flaws in people. People are not perfect and that's exactly the problem.

I am sure someone is going to make a terrible comment by me saying this.

I don't want to discuss sports. I don't want to discuss anything anymore, because there is no point to discussion.

The logical conclusion is that I should kill myself, because there is nothing to gain for me left in life. People do not want me and all people are assholes.

Before the CIA got involved with Facebook, it was already popular, just not mass surveillance level of popular.

I never got the whole appeal of sharing personal experiences like pictures through a corporation. The popularity of Facebook only signals to me how incredibly stupid and shallow the average person is. Kind of similar to Reddit in a way, which has no values left from when it was founded; it was fun to be on Reddit, until it became the Chinese misery it is today.

Social media is essentially dead already, because there is no way to figure out what's real and what's fake anymore in the long term; imagine that twenty million trolls have an AI PC in five years with locally running LLMs. There's no way to filter that spam.

If you have real friends, you would actually visit them and show them your vacation pictures on your phone or hook them up to some projector or better yet: take them on said vacation. Shared experiences have value, some shitty picture of you near some place where millions of tourists visit every year is completely worthless.

It wasn't by them, since the support is literally in the kernel. As to why it was overlooked by you, I can only guess. So, perhaps you might want to understand your hardware first and only then complain on the internet exposing your ignorance.

Politically, this is suicide for the US interests in the long term, because perhaps someday the US would need help because of some unforeseen natural disaster.

If Trump really wanted a good defense for Europe, it would share technology with the Europeans, which he isn't doing.

Still Trump shouldn't even get placed on the ballot and he should be behind bars for treason. Similarly, whoever underfunded EU armies should face a worse punishment, but unfortunately there is no capital punishment for being stupid.

Don't know her, luckily, but I found this top comment on that website:

Very little on social media is done by accident; in particular by the influencer crowd. Specific to Bethenny: as she ages and her following starts to go stale, time to bring the teen daughter into the mix. The latter is still a child; although one cannot help but notice that she has the body of someone much older - especially in the adult outfits her mom is providing to her. In a couple of years she will start modeling and off we go to being famous. I think that most agree that 13 is too young for this; although she is on a well trod path. That said, hopefully it will not be the same one of Drew Barrymore..

It's just some pathetic parent exploiting her child.

Do you support eugenics? by fschmidt in AskSaidIt

[–]binaryblob 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If we could do eugenics, we should. It's just that some safe guards would have to be kept in place to ensure some diversity. Giving birth to people that we already know to be defective, is not good for the person being born nor for society.

The level of eugenics we can currently do, is quite unsophisticated. Single location changes can probably be done with a high level of success, but we can't do changes in 100 places (Harvard did this in an adult, but it's not a routine thing).

In an eugenics world, nobody would have to wear glasses for example, which would be a net benefit to society. The thesis that "only perfect humans would exist" (as if that would be a bad thing) is not even practically possible. It's like saying that "AI will take over the world", before any intelligent AI exists (spoiler alert: no intelligent AI has ever been programmed into a computer of meaningful size in public, although it might have happened in a military context).

I was indoctrinated in high school that eugenics were bad, but since I learned that with slightly different red blood cells, we could sprint for 15 minutes instead of twenty seconds I can't imagine why anyone not would want to be able to do that. Imagine that you could just walk up Mt. Everest without even breaking a sweat untrained. Imagine that you could go on a space walk without oxygen. In fact, imagine that you could just enable some kind of built-in body armor going into a harsh environment; the possibilities of eugenics are endless. How about bullet wounds that would heal within milliseconds of impact? There is nothing that prevents that from working, other than a lack of engineering knowhow. It's just that religious nut jobs killed it, before it ever became a thing.

Chinese Spacecraft Emitting Strong Signal Over North America by Musky in WarWatch

[–]binaryblob 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Starting a war against is only sane when you know the enemy. As such, knowing everything that happens within US airspace would be the absolute minimum that one has to monitor for at least a couple of years before flipping the switch on invasion of Taiwan.

If the US has reverse-engineered saucer technology (this could obviously just be an elaborate hoax, but the Tic Tacs remain an oddity) China would probably want to know that before entering a war (especially, since they aren't any good at fighting wars).

I wish I knew for a fact whether the Tic Tacs are real and that I would get the real data surrounding them, because if you know the real characteristics, it's like that you can figure out how they work (even though, as David Grusch said, they might live in a higher dimension, which would explain a lot and would make it impossible for us to ever match such capabilities, since such higher dimensional beings would control dimensions that do not exist for us).

The only reason to spy on someone is for nefarious reasons. That part is true.

He should have kept his mouth shut, but I think there is virtually no limit to what technology can do.

It's in the best interest of the US to have a fully working nuclear shield working, but in such a way that almost nobody knows about it. Depending on the level of technological sophistication, it's probably possible to make a global working nuclear shield with just a hundred people even knowing it exists with just three or four that know the operational details. It's even possible to reduce that number to zero in principle, although that would not be recommended and you would have to shoot everyone with knowledge of the project.

I think it's just that humans suck, not social media. The only reason this place doesn't suck yet (or well, not in the normal sense), is because not enough idiots joined yet. This place seems to be an ideal testing ground for Russian and Chinese propaganda (and perhaps even Western propaganda, which is harder for me to see since I am from the West, obviously).

If you are a completely ignorant sucker and you believe everything you read, then you might fall for propaganda. I actually enjoy consuming propaganda to some degree. I think traditional news sources are acting irresponsible regarding the threat posed by deep fakes, but it's not like there is a cure for stupidity.
