Capitalism combined with a functioning legal system. If your competitor isn't advertising according to the rules (e.g. Tesla, because there are seemingly no rules in the US?), then competing becomes difficult.

For example Mercedes has some autonomous driving features, but due to fake US marketing from Tesla, even I have some voice in the back of my mind that perhaps the Tesla version works better, while the specifications don't agree, IIRC. That is, Mercedes offers higher guarantees in the EU than any Tesla model.

I wish that every gay person that has annoyed me in the past would be tortured to death by the government, but I guess we can't have nice things in this society.

Just because intelligence doesn't increase, doesn't mean education is useless. I think education can turn raw intelligence into structured raw intelligence, which is the difference between being able to build a slingshot and engineering a Death Star. In fact, I could tell you how humanity could build the fucking Star Trek Enterprise (propulsion systems not included) as if humanity wasn't as inferior as it is in reality. Without a university education (and an unstoppable interest in figuring out how to do better), that would not have happened. It's just that the "demand" for doing things to perfection isn't really there, but just because the rest of humanity is stupid, doesn't mean I need to care about that.

Even though 80% of my classes at university were a waste of time, the 20% wasn't. Similarly in business; it's easy to remain an idiot in business practices while working at small companies, but if you get some relevant experience in the higher echelons, you can meaningfully get ahead, even though your g-factor never changed.

Masks probably work, if everyone follows the instructions to the letter, which they literally can't.

The real lesson humanity should have learned is that apparently humanity is a shit species and the most effective way (for a technologically underdeveloped species) to deal with a pandemic is to infect everyone once a pandemic is declared and just see who lives or dies. This also accomplishes a genetic pool strengthening.

I really doubt the numbers regarding "saved lives", even more how many high quality years of life have been saved.

I don't doubt that vaccines can theoretically work, but in this case it spread across the world before the vaccines were developed and a natural infection is still probably the best (although most unpleasant) way to get protection.

Figuratively, guns do solve everything. It's just that we are in the end game (could still take 15-100 years) in which armies will need increasingly less people to operate, and then one day, one nation will have the power to obliterate everyone else and only suffer acceptable losses themselves.

To deny that's the reality is just wishful thinking. The only way to stop that, is if every weapons manufacturing location is monitored by everyone else such that there is always a balance of power, but that has never happened in history.

Zuckerberg also did that with Meta last year.

Darknets provide censorship free fora, but they don't come with solutions against spam, so you would have to run a local spam filter for all content and also run the content sorting locally, nothing a modern computer can't do, but it would raise the minimum system level requirements for clients by 100x.

Party goers are often healthy young people of which some part will become militarily active. By elimination of those people from the gene pool, you kill two birds with one stone. Also, the number of economically useful years of damage per victim is optimized that way and the investment made by the state in education is also maximally destroyed.

The train bombing in Madrid also falls within that pattern.

I thought it was more fore emotional effect "Oh, no, think about the children" and the fact they are relaxing exercises and as such destroy for example the tourist industry in some destinations like Bali.

Having said that, I suppose that blowing up one of those terrible tourist busses with a bunch of 70 year olds doesn't have the same emotional impact. In a way, it would argue for less security measures for older people, because that human capital is less valuable.

A party is almost by definition a dangerous place, because unknown people enter. Even without terrorists, I remember parties typically attracting assholes.

Your comment would totally be deleted in lots of media publications. I like the cold hard analysis. It provides further understanding for how the world works.

If I follow this line of thinking, it becomes quite easy to identify what likely next terrorist targets would be.

I don't understand how it was prepared two years in advance, but typically such parties aren't announced two years in advance or was there a version of that party a few years ago too? Also, two years ago there was COVID, so that would suggest they have been planning this for much longer.

Your comment would be useful, if you explained how the implementation could be improved within the context of Cloudflare and saidit.

I think if this is Cloudflare's product and they don't know how to do better for their enterprise clients, I would short the shit out of their stock, but I doubt that's the case. It's much more likely that it's either a consequence of it being freemium or because saidit developer doesn't know what they are doing.

I think both sides are assholes, so it's pointless to argue.

Wrestling was once a real sport that captivated huge audiences but when matches became too long and familiar, promoters of the sport decided to script it. Quality wrestlers began working on their personalities and presentation to stand out to audiences and that’s when the sport began moving into a performance rather than a sport.

Whoever wrote this might be biased and it's not proof, but it kind of makes sense that it wasn't always gay people finding a reason for rubbing their balls in public.

The properties of the materials used in a building are determined at normal operating temperatures, so not in fire conditions. As such, no structural properties can be derived and as such there is no guarantee the structure will continue to exist. If you can show the math that this particular building should not have collapsed (and just so you know, I could give you the math for the opposite position), then there is something to discuss, but we all know that you are just a troll sitting in a troll factory, right?

Perhaps you should get a steel rod, hold one end of it in a fire for a while and then determine whether you want to admit the laws of thermodynamics or want to burn your hands.

Now, if you could show that the energy transfer coefficient would have been too low, then perhaps there is something to discuss, but your explanation is just too simplistic.

[–]binaryblob 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

There isn't even a test for autism not involving self-reported data. Perhaps they could first do a bit of medical work and prove that brains work differently and, if they do, that it is actually a disability. How fucking hard can it be to build a model of which genes you need at a minimum to build a functioning human and then identify genes that fuck up some of those processes (and repeat for 20,000 genes at most)? I can imagine a super computer could even figure that out today, especially if every scientist just would study one gene in parallel. It makes you wonder what all those scientists are doing, because there are a lot of graduates in that area.

We also don't have the manufacturing base for it.

The West can produce everything they want, but it's entirely possible they don't know they want it.

Our elites are retards.

This is paradoxal. I suppose by "elites" you mean the people that would have been considered the elites a few hundred years ago like heads of state, etc. The elites we have today are indeed idiots. The new elites are the ones you never hear about walking around on some Big Tech campus. They might not have the most money, but one can wonder who actually has "power" in this world, if not for those in the semi-conductor industry.

Elites in ancient times were well educated. These days they are inches away from showing up in a track suit. The amount of respect for authorities is dwindling in every country, because if all you are is a leader by force and not because you have something to offer, you soon won't be a leader anymore.

Technology companies will become the new master, if they aren't already.
