I'm confused, stuff like this seems to be a given at this point why is this interesting? Of course Reddit would have bots that comment, probably a ton of them. It doesn't seem to be that surprising. There are probably a bunch on sites that do similar things to try and replicate or manufacture traffic on their sites. Again, wouldn't be surprising in the least bit. These Reddit posts are becoming a bit stale. We know what Reddit is why do we keep talking about it? Oh wait I know, because it's an automatic front page Reddit hate circle jerk. Slow day on saidit? Anecdotal evidence much? I'm sorry you got sick but the fact is that story doesn't make the data any more legitimate or illegitimate, its just a story from a random person on the internet. My experience has been much different. I know of a lot more people who have been effected by the lockdown, getting later off, losing business, etc., and on the flip side don't know of one person who got COVID or was effected by it. Both of these things are called anecdotal evidence my friend. It proves nothing. You think Fox news is any different from MSNBC abc etc? If you do you're not very intelligent. I don't watch TV so I don't get my news from mainstream media. Maybe you should turn off the TV in general and stop thinking that anyone who has a different opinion than you watched a different channel on that stupid box. We know the numbers are inflated so check back in when the backpedaling stops and we get real data. Turn off the TV my friend.

Thank you for the well thought out comment. Most of it I can agree with but the fact is if you look at magnora comments starting from a month ago and going back he was def fear mongering. He was spouting the mass media narrative line for line. How is that not fear mongering? Granted he has now slowly changed his position but that is my point. All the people, including politicians etc, will start doing this now. It was be a slow progression to a new narrative of backpedaling because of X, Y or Z reasons. To say someone was critically looking at the data from the beginning but also spouting mass media narratives doesn't make sense.

"not the black death like we thought in the beginning...". Who exactly is the "we" here? You and the rest of the mainstream media? Who thought this was the black death? You and the other fear mongering people? See this is the narrative we're going to get from the people who have been fear mongers from the beginning. A backpedaling to justify why they believed what they believed. These are the same people who just weeks ago where shouting from the rooftops that everyone was going to die if we didn't shut down immediately. Totally laughable. Fear is a power emotion and they played off it perfectly this time. No one who was critically looking at the data from the start had thoughts about this being the black death or anything of the sort. It seems like those kinds of fear mongering ideas only came from people being fed a narrative. And now you're being spoon fed a narrative of backpedaling because of X, y, or z. W.e the reason you and many other people were part of the fear mongering. That needs to recognized so in the future it doesn't happen again.

Idt the number you're using are correct. Here is the provisional death data https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm. Looks like from this site the number is at roughly 39000. We also know that this number is dramatic and that not all these deaths are for sure from COVID. We know reporting of COVID deaths are under suspicion. Not to mention that deaths from flu, pneumonia, hearth failure, etc., Etc. Are all down also meaning that a lot of these deaths are being attributed to covid when they shouldn't be. We know these things so to keep using these dramatic numbers to fit your narrative and fear mongering is disingenuous at best. In addition, a lot of your statements are general and not well thought out. To say that a large percentage of the population has immunity to the flu because of a flu vaccine is just plain wrong. What strain of flu are we talking about? You know every year they pick the strain of flu that they think are going to be the worst and thats what more or less goes in this vaccine they give you. You know that right? Sometimes they guess wrong and the flu shot does nothing. That's because there are different strains of the flu, it's not some monolithic thing that they give the same vaccine for every year. You following me here? So to say that the vaccine makes a large percentage of the population immune to the flu is incorrect. Sometimes the flu shot does absolutely nothing at all. I would even upgrade that statement to most of the time it doesn't do anything but that can be debated. So your general statements when taken at face value do support your narrative, as they were obviously intended to do, but the devil is in the details my friend. I know it's hard to get in those details when they don't support your narrative but they are there. Turn off the TV do some research you'll see we've been tricked. Get over your pride of being wrong and start having a honest conversation about this situation with people. Stop virtue signalling and let's have a genuine conversation about what's going on.
[–]astronautrob 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun - 1 month ago* (0 children)
Stop the virtue signalling my friend. We all care but it's not mutually exclusive to also caring about other things like the economy crashing or people losing their jobs, uptick in domestic violence and child abuse, suicides, depression, or any number of the other preventable causes of death that the news hasn't brainwashed you into caring about, etc. Get off the virtue signalling train and start having an honest conversation about this pandemic. We expect better of you magnora. When I look at your touted pyramid of debate I don't see virtue signalling as one of the options for a acceptable debate avenue. We got tricked and we need to start speaking honestly about instead of playing their games. We all have grandmother's mother's father's who are older and we all care about those individuals but again not exclusive to caring about what else has gone on. Idk what you mean by "we're ahead of the curve" either. From the post I've seen from you and some others, youve been pushing the fear mongering like everyone else. Now we just switch the narrative and say it's "turning out to be" much lower? Lollollol that's what most of us have been saying from the beginning. So again stop the virtue signalling, we all care it's just that some of us have already realized we've been tricked and have been trying to tell the rest of you for weeks now. All we've heard is "OH MY GOD WE just don't know how bad this could be!!!" And "wait and see!!" And more fear mongering type statements. So idk what you mean by people are starting to see what you're posting, you've been pushing the fear mongering from the start. Sorry just calling it like I see it.

Zero fucks... by JasonCarswell in memes
I'm glad it came off as love cause that's how it was intended. Also, memes can be w.e they want a suppose so what I'm about to say probably isn't even right. But when I see memes they usually are with a certain cadence or set up line, if you will. For instance take the LOTR meme you posted here with Boromir. So in the movie Boromir's line is "One does not simply walk in to Mordor", something to that effect. So the cadence for the set up line for this meme is usually "one does not simply...." Then the punch line.
So something like "one does not simply...eat only one lays chip", terrible and not funny but you get the idea. Most memes have this same type of construction. Picture that is associated to some line/saying, usually the set up line or w.e, then you add your joke. Not all memes have the exact same structure or even have a "set up line" but they do generally follow some sort of similar way of being presented.
Another example would be the most interesting man meme I saw you post the other day. Usually with that meme it follows the commercial that it comes from. So commercial goes, "I don't always drink beer but when I do it's dosexecies" or however it's spelled. So set up line is "I don't always do X but when I do it's Y". So again something like "I don't always debate progressives but when I do I always throw up a little in my mouth", again terrible but hope you get the idea.
Just my strategy when it comes to memes is I'll try to Google image search the meme first. Usually it will come up with pics of the meme obviously but they will also be all similar and from that I can figure out the set up line or how the meme is "supposed" to go. I hate saying supposed to do anything so again these can be w.e. In fact don't even listen to me keep doing what you do I'm enjoying the originality.
Usually love your stuff Jason but lately have not been using these memes right my friend.

You repeat the same garbage in all your comments. No one is buying your mainstream fear mongering here my friend. You literally sound like an ABC 6oclock world news update. Save your breath no one's buying that here.
The point remains that to compare it to the Spanish flu is disingenuous. We know Coronavirus deaths are not being reported accurately. We also know that the mortality Tate will definitely come down as more people get the virus and recover. These numbers are dramatic. If you take out people over 60 the mortality rate in all these countries are far below 5%. You're saying this is every thread because youre making the numbers fit your narrative. You used the mortality rate to justify comparing this to Spanish flu, that is disingenuous. The age discrepancy matters, you can't just discount that fact to make it seem like this is a more deadly virus than it really is. Again turn off the TV and my friend.
Also loved how you cherry picked countries to fit your narrative. What about Russia, turkey, Germany, etc., Mortality rate. Not anywhere near these numbers.
Love these numbers people throw out. 5-14% mortality rate? Where are you getting these numbers? https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/
Are we just making up mortality rates to fit the narrative at this point? Even the worst hit countries, like Italy, don't have a mortality rate at 14%. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1106372/coronavirus-death-rate-by-age-group-italy/
And again look at the age break down. Yes the mortality rate is high but not till you get to a specific age group. Have you been reading the most recent data coming from Italy. 99%, I repeat, 99% of people who have died in Italy due to Coronas had prior medical conditions. I think something like 50% had three or more conditions.
People who compare this to the Spanish flu are being disingenuous. It's not the same. The Spanish flu was killing mostly people between ages of 20-40. Healthy young adults would get sick and die within 24-48 hours. This is not the same as what we are seeing right? At least you can agree with that fact. Your whole comment is laced with inflammatory and disingenuous statements that you back up with no sources. It was just a waste of your time to write all that jibberish. Turn off the TV my friend.
Nuclear is one of the safest energy sources, contrary to public belief. by useless_aether in ClimateSkeptics
Look here's a great thought experiment/example. Think of a graph with certain weapons on it. Bullets, rockets, bayonets, mines, swords, pikes, w.e, etc., Etc. This list would also include nuclear bombs right? That graph would probably look a lot similar. Maybe swords, pikes etc. on top. Maybe bullets and rockets outpace those things. But my point is nuclear bombs would probably be waaaaay at the bottom right? Are they safer than other weapons? Idt anyone would say they were. I think that's a good analogy to this graph. Yes nuclear power has been safer over time, which is one way to measure "safety", but the amount of damage it can do has to be taken in to account.
No thank you. Do you have any sourced articles? I don't know how anyone could refute the things that have happened and are continuing to happen in Japan. That was one nuclear plant, just one. It crazy to think if something like that happened to say 5 plants across the globe. Again I think it's about degrees of danger or destruction, not just historical total deaths.
Tyson Foods Warns "Food Supply Chain Is Breaking" by fred_red_beans in news
Yes this is definitely true, the whole food supply chain is under stress. My comment was more of an attempt to point out the inflammatory titles of articles. The title of this article was "Food supply chain is breaking" but the article only goes in to meat productive, specifically pork. The two articles you posted are great info and the titles are much less inflammatory which I appreciate. But saying the FOOD supply chain is breaking is dramatic. Meat supply may be breaking but grain, and other Staples, etc., are under stress like the rest of the country but aren't "breaking". The inflammatory titles of these articles are what gets me. Most people these days only read titles, let's be real. But when you read in to these articles you see it usually isn't as frightening as the titles suggest.
Another side of this I think is this fake pandemic is making people become conscious of things that have been going on for years. Look at this article,
This kind of stuff happens every year, this is not new at least concerning fruits and veggies. So again to my original point, the food supply chain is not breaking the meat supply chain is breaking.
Nuclear energy is of course very safe till it's not. Look at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. They still are dumping radioactive waste in the Pacific. They still don't have it under control. So yes nuclear energy is safe but when something goes wrong it goes really wrong. That's not the case so much with other forms of energy. A coal plant blowing up is not going to possibly wipe out the entire population, etc. The consequences of a nuclear accident are much greater than any of the other forms of energy listed on this chart. So maybe a better way to look at it would be possible deaths or degrees of destruction if something were to happen. On top of that most of these other forms of energy have been around a lot longer so it would make sense they would have higher deaths just because.
It's funny how articles will describe "The food chain as breaking", but when you read it's usually only about the meat industry having issues. This article is almost exclusively about pork. Not to say meat, including pork, is not a big part of or diet and supply chain. But let's be real, meat does not make up our whole supply chain by a long shot. People can go without eating meat for awhile but to say the whole chain is breaking down because meat processing plants are closing is dramatic.
Sweden Resisted Suicidal Economic Lockdown – Now Stockholm Expected to Reach “Herd Immunity” in Weeks by RickC-137 in news
Sweet dreams my friend.
Love this virtue signalling canned response once the numbers get brought up. The pro Coronavirus argument always degrades in to something resembling this canned response. How many Americans are you going to let die from smoking, drinking, obesity, poverty, hunger, car crashes, etc., etc. See that argument breaks down when you start looking at other preventable causes of death. Are we going to shut the country down because of suicides? No we aren't. Why? Because that won't frighten a whole population in to self confinement. It doesn't benefit the establishment. Did you know the richest 500 people have seen their wealth increase over 20% since this has started? Rich are getting richer and the corporations got a bigger bail out than it 2009 under Obama. That's a scary thought when you put it like that but we all know that all 8 billion people won't contract it so those numbers are a bit dramatic. We also know that that 2% rate is going to come down as more people contract COVID and recover from it, which most people are. The deaths are in a very select group of people, older people or people with underlying health conditions. The Spanish flu killed a much bigger segment of the population, and strangely enough killed a lot of people between the ages of 20-40. Perfectly healthy people would contract the Spanish for and could die within 24-48hrs. Again, this is not happening with this novel COVID. It's a big difference. We also know COVID has been the most tracked virus in history. We know the reporting of deaths from COVID is extensive and has been under some scrutiny. Those factors would also effect the mortality rate. If we had the kind of reporting and technology that we have now during the Spanish flu who knows what the mortality rate would have been. Definitely much higher though we can say that for certain. Look I'm not trying to be crass, in the grand scheme of things everyone matters of course but to throw numbers out like 160mil is disingenuous. It won't kill that many, it won't even get close. When looking at countries other than the US or Italy, which has been plastered all over the mainstream media, we can see that the mortality rate isn't even close to that number. It's funny what the masses get scared about, and it's funny how the government knows which buttons to push. This contagion button pushing has been very interesting to watch.

No that isn't what I wanted to know, I know mortality rate we've now calculated it twice in addition to me knowing the information beforehand. Talk about going in circles. What I was asking if for your "risk of death" percentage for the whole world in say the last 24hrs, right? It seems like your risk of death percentage factors in time, so wouldn't mortality rate have the same limits imposed? Now, are you trying to say that the mortality rate and this "risk of death" are interchangeable? Idt that's true from what I meantime do above, mortality rate is deaths over cases by 100, no time factor involved here, and your "risk of death" rate is the same but over a 24hr period am I right? So those wouldn't be the same, right? This seems so elementary but please if you can explain to me how I am getting this wrong...?
it's definitely not true the way you portrayed it in your first post. So while the computation may be the same it'd the flawed way you are using or looking at the data. Taking a 24hr period, the worst 24hr period in the country hit the hardest, does not give an accurate picture of a mortality rate. What does give you a more accurate picture is the second computation you did, using worldwide data over the course of the whole pandemic. You wrote in your first comment that the flu doesn't increase your risk of death 54%. That's it. You didn't say this was in a 24hr period using just Italys numbers and that it probably doesn't apply to most places or cases. See what I'm getting at here? If you are saying the two computations are the same then you should of original posted that COVID would raise you "risk of death" or tf you want to call it, 3.5% right? But then aren't we also talk about mortality rate? So isn't your risk of death computation just mortality rate for a given time period in a given area? and then you try to apply that to everyone, because in your opinion Italy is not an isolated situation and this situation will happen other places, right? All that is conjecture. I hope you're still following along. This calculation you are doing is flawed. For instance, say we took the worst 24hr period of idk something like mers or sars. Think mers had a 30% mortality rate or something. Idk for fact don't quote me, but my point is you could take pandemics, truncate the data set to worst case senior, and probably come up with all crazy numbers. Again, see what I'm getting at?
It seems your reading comprehension skills are below normal levels. Be that as it may, I'll try to work with you a bit longer but I can't spend my free time and energy trying to educate someone who doesn't seem to have the intelligence to comprehend what he is reading. There are tons of sources that you can look at yourself.
Now with that being said, what numbers would you like me to put up my friend? You keep asking me to "put my data up", what data are you specifically looking for? You want data to show the mortality rate of COVID? You've already got that my friend. That's the only data I've spoke about throughout this whole conversation. Mortality rate, mortality rate, mortality rate. What other data would you like me to provide you? I'm asking you to validate the claim that "getting COVID makes you 54% more likely to die", which you have yet to do. All you keep asking for is data from me, why? You put up the arbitrary number, that means you have to come up with with data that isn't arbitrary to back it up. Which you haven't. The only thing I want from you is for you to tell me the "rate of dying" or w.e that is BASED ON WORLDWIDE DATA, not data just from Italy. Can you give me that? If not then we have no further discussion as your debate style is to deflect and then reposition your argument. Not a very good conversation style to have my friend. It's like talking to my wife....
You're giving mortality rate for worldwide data, I'm asking for your "rate of death" for the world. Those two numbers are not the same my friend. Your "rate of death" stat is arbitrary, idk why you're still trying to argue the point. Anything else pertaining to this debate is irrelevant other than the fact that your " rate of death" number you out forth is not factual. we are beating a dead horse st this point. Thank you for a good debate though my friend, hope you get some tougher skin in the future.
Idk if the internet is the right place for you my friend. Calling something silly is by no means an insult, I'm sorry if you feel somehow personally connected to this idea but it does not change the fact that it is silly. I haven't been going around in circles at all. My point was the number you put up, this "risk of dying" as you or whoever calls it, is based off of one country. It is a number based on an arbitrary choice of one data set over another, or the arbitrary choice of not including worldwide data. That makes it arbitrary, does it not? If you picked data from say Germany, the "risk of dying" would be a much lower percentage. So that makes the "risk of dying" number you put forth, 54%, arbitrary. You keep saying "my estimate" or "I assume". Why are you assuming? The numbers are clear if you just look at mortality rate. You want me to explain how mortality rate is different from the arbitrary percentage you threw out? Idk you tell me. Everyone knows how mortality rate is figured, you just did it in a previous post. It's a worldwide mortality rate, right? How is that different from a percentage that's based on data from one country...? Is that really a hard question to answer? It's worldwide data vrs data from one country. It's an equation, cases over deaths *100 or w.e that is. This "risk of dying" is just an arbitrary number based on one countries set of data. What is the "risk of dying" percentage when taking in to account other countries, not just italy?
Also I don't agree with the statement government has to consider all people. In reality they don't have to consider all people, and in most cases usually don't. Again, turn off the TV this holy than thou narrative is gross. The sheep are literally herding themselves.
But it won't keep going up because everyone is not like Italy. The mortality rate will go down as more people recover, that's a fact. It is not a fact to saying getting COVID raises your chances of death by 54%, that's silly. Again, it doesn't take in to account things like age, which is a huge factor. Are you saying a 20 who gets COVID and a 80 year old both raise their chances of death by 54%? Again silly math. I won't dispute the fact people are dieing of COVID but age is a huge factor. For the most part it's not killing younger/middle aged healthy people. The people who are dieing from COVID are moslty older people and people with underlying health conditions. COVID has been one of the most "tracked" viruses in history, if not the most. The reporting of COVID deaths has been had some questions marks, doctors bring told to report cod as COVID even if there was no test done, etc. Those are both facts. But even putting those aside common sense would tell you that if any of the previous "pandemics" we're tracked as closely as this one has been the mortality probably would have looked a lot worse than it did. 3.5% mortality rate is not outrageous, especially when it's so segregated to one part of the population. But all that is a digression from my original point. Our original debate was about the 54% being arbitrary, which in using only a select data set makes it so. Trying to change the window to be about mortality rate doesn't make that fact any less true.
Using statistics only from Italy is arbitrary. You're picking which data set to use. You, or whoever did the "calculations" are arbitrarily picking what numbers to use. Even if that percentage is correct Italys numbers are high for a couple different reasons, we already know that. Try looking at something like the world mortality rate so far with novel COVID and compare that to past flu pandemics. That would be a better data set to look at. You probably saw that stat somewhere on TV or mainstream media. Again, turn off the TV. Italy has been posted on every media outlet because it has the most frightening numbers. The mortality rate for COVID is relatively low and most likely will even go lower once more people get it, are tested, and recover (which most people are). Even mortality rate is a little too narrow of a perspective if we're being honest. It doesn't take in to account age (which seems to be the biggest factor in whether COVID will kill you or not, just like almost every other disease). Either way to say getting COVID makes you 54% more likely to die is silly. To use numbers from only one country makes it even more silly. Saying getting COVID makes you 54% more likely to die is like saying getting in a car makes you XX% more likely to die on a given day. Is that a base percentage? Like does getting in a car make you 50% more likely to die and then say for instance it's raining that adds 15% and if you're drunk that adds 20%, etc.? That is just silly, it doesn't take in to account so many factors. Also again to use the numbers from one country makes the argument invalid.
4th generation warfare is what we're experiencing right now. In other words, warfare without actually using weapons of war, only psychological warfare thru exactly what we're seeing, msm, gov't false reports etc. Our own gov't has declared war on us as we sit at home. by Jesus in conspiracy
Thank you Jesus for the great suggestion. This is what I've been trying to do but have felt helpless with just trying to make people aware. I guess it's all we can do atm. I just see all these people with an issue about what is being done in this country and I think, are these people being organized, can they be organized, etc.?
Although I agree with what you say, relying less on the gov and being more self sufficient is a great thing, it doesn't really ring true with a typical "call to action". If more people relied less on the gov that would be a great thing no doubt but I don't see her that can effect change on a large scale. Granted if everyone did this it would, but that isn't likely to happen.
That's a very arbitrary number. It also doesn't address the many other preventative causes of deaths that kill many more people even if you're going to believe the inflated mortality rate currently being circulated. Turn off the TV my friend.

The problem comes in when the "disease" is in fact not a public health concern, anymore than the reg flu, any other novel strain of flue, hunger, suicide, etc., Etc., Is and the government is using the crisis to take away freedoms. That can be veiled in the cloak of "public health" but it doesn't negate the fact that constitutional rights are basically being taken away for a boogie man. Similar to the cold war scare, 9/11, etc., These are moments that the gov deemed necessary to take away rights, enact "temporary" powers never are given back. The "reason" they deem necessary for taking these rights away is irrelevant. It doesn't matter. It will always change from one boogie man to the next. Right now it Corona, tomorrow it will be something else the 24 hour news cycle will tell you is important to pay attention to.

Wake up bro, these people aren't out here for you. No politicians are, including present or past presidents. Donald is playing a part, he's an actor in this sick political theater. I'll let you in on a little secret, there's no team blue or team red my friend, they all play for team green. In addition, I would say overall people on saidit are far less inclined to be fooled by the right/left, red/blue paradigm that we are fed, and more inclined to see the reality of the situation. With that fact in mind I think it would be you who is actually better off going back to Reddit where people will actually debate with you about political topics. You won't find much of that here, we understand all too well the political theater they try and feed us. Hope you find some clarity in your life my friend.

Thank you I appreciate the updated numbers. This article.is interesting to check out https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/interactive/2020/03/covid-19-charts-maps-200310163714493.html.
The last graph shows the break down of deaths by age group. Don't know if one of the three posts you put up mentions this but this is the point that I think needs to be highlighted. The mortality rate will come down even more with more testing too. At this point I can understand how the infection rate is frightening to people but other than that this virus does not seem to be killing mass amounts of people but only a select age group. This is something that I think has been talked about enough. Infection rate is surprising though.
Also surprising is examples like India, which is one of the most densly populated places yet almost has no cases...? And south korea,, what they're doing to control it seems to working very well. Has anything been reported on what's happening in places other than Italy? Germany, UK both seem to be doing well in terms of cases vrs deaths or hospitalizations. Some very interesting examples. Indais example can be explained away by more boogey man stuff and maybe they are right. With more testing maybe India's numbers will rise but stillcinterwting what other countries are doing and what the media is focusing on.
