Italians rip down flag at EU headquarters in Rome… by P-38lightning in news

Nope. A very low point in Italian history. This is what corrupt AF politics does to nations. It's going to get worse. They'll have to leave the EU in order to refuse immigrants their rights. Part of that problem is on the EU, which should have allowed a better immigrant policy whereby repatriation was a norm for the millions of immigrants. But now the result is Brexit, fascism in Italy, the rise of crime in Sweden, and much more.

[–]asshole 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Fuck you, what you're doing is cheapening actual victims of rape. 14yr old girls who sneak out to party with bands are not little naive angels who have absolutely no idea why they're getting into a bed with four guys.

EXACTLY what pedophiles say. Exactly what victims hear quite often from assholes like you. There is so much wrong with this statement that it woud take me an hour of writing to explain all of it to someone who appears to have no clue about it. First, she did not want to be raped, ffs. Second, she did not expect to be raped. Third, if she did not want to be raped, her refusal should have been sufficient to keep them from raping her. Fourth, she thought she was with someone she could trust. Fifth, she did not know others could be so abusive. Sixth, let kids be kids, without raping them. Seventh, you've now advocated rape on Saidit, and Clourflare will close the account. Eighth, kids don't see themselves as slags, unless they're part of sex trafficking, which is another horror. Ninth, she's an ACTUAL victim of rape, ffs. Tenth, would you have sex with a 14-year-old. Would you do so if she was in a recent acquaintance's bedroom and he said you could? What about her? What's best for her? And there are 99 other explanations that should not be necessary.

I had hoped that I had misspoken when I wrote my initial comment; that perhaps you did not intend to write that, or that I took it out of context, and that you would never want girls to be raped. But no, turns out that this is among the worst comments by you. I'm not sure why. I can't imagine anyone thinking like this, but they do in South Asia, the Middle East, parts of Japan and Korea, some parts of the UK, and in shithole Christo-fascist states like Texas and Arkansas. Note also that rape culture is now on the rise in Texas thanks to Abbott's and voters' abortion law (was in the news yesterday). I wasn't mad at you, I was surprised, and still am. It helps me to see how others think, even if it's repulsive. It's sickening that there is this pedophile rape culture that's rather wide-spread - and it's always been part of any 'society'. But hurting children in that way deserves long prison and community service sentences. (And I am not talking about consensual sex between 14-year-olds, which is a different discussion.)

Nick and the bad seeds were very popular in the mid-1980s, and part of a relatively new sound at the time among similar musicians. It was very common in those days for bands to try to have sex with fans. There are numerous consensual examples. The author notes that it was not consensual in her case. It was rape.

It amazes me that the very few anti-vax people I've known about are absolutely certain that they are smarter than the thousands of scientists, and the billions of people who know that the covid vaccines offered in the West (not sure about those in Russia, China and fake versions in India) have been quite obviously safe and effective. There is absolutely no way to convince an anti-vaxxer that they may be incorrect about the overwhelming evidence. There's an anti-vaxxer in my family who is otherwise a nice, normal person, but regarding vaccines, she is absolutely convinced that the (false) evidence she wants to believe is much more reliable than the extensive reliable scientific and tested evidence. It's really sad and rather scary that these people can be so convinced by propaganda to believe obvious lies.

My father died of COVID. Friends and colleagues have died of COVID, or were seriously ill because of it.

The only way to deal with this is to understand the facts, not claims by anonymous people that refute those facts without any scientific or logical evidence. The latter makes it much much worse, and like Trump and his supporters have done, helps spread the virus when very simple procedures are not followed (vaccines, masks, social distancing &c). Those Americans who helped spread the virus are indirectly responsible for killing my father and friends. There is nothing redeemable about them.

TL, DR: 40 years of Republican-led extreme income inequality with trickle-down econominic failed promises (much like Truss's idiotic arrangements that will NOT cause growth, as we know, and we'll pay for the massive loans and tax cuts with taxes on the 99%) is leading to a populace with nothing to lose, causing them to attack Republican/Tory assholes. Though it's quite possible that your mental health has droped to a ridiculous level, but my guess is that you simply want to bully the other user because you disagree with him, not because he's socks, because you know socks's usernames, and you know he isn't one of them. Whereas alcohol is rotting your mind, you are obviously more motivated by wanting to bully others (much like Carsmell). So why is it you want to bully users, when this is only a 1 or 2-month old problem for you? Problems at home? Alcoholism? Losses of thousands in pyramid scheme crypto? Partner is sick of you? All of the above? Work on your problems, not on bullying new users who you KNOW are not socks.

Would you like to see the other posts by socks's accounts? He deleted the 'socks' account, but I should be able to find the other accounts. Muskrat also knows them. You can also PM him on Reddit. It's really simple. Socks will not give you any private info or invite you to talk to him, unlike this other user. There are things socks knows about Saidit that the other user might not know. I can also nominate other users to confirm which usernames were used by socks. Keep in mind that you are the only person to bully the site_rly_sux person. Others understand the differences between users' comments. What do you want to know about socks?

EDIT: I've got an idea:

I know you're sometimes in the chat/subscribed. We can invite u/Site_rly_sux to the chat at a designated time. Socks will login at the same time, and both users will type comments simultaneously. That should do it. (Socks is banned from commenting in subs, but can comment in the chat.)

Censorship in r/socialism

The discussion in that thread included many [removed] comments, with the following explanation:

Lesser Evilism: Refers to all forms of apologia for, or (institutional/electoral) support of, non-socialist figures under the lesser of two evils principle, as it cannot lead to anything other than the reaffirmation of policies in opposition of the interests of the working class. One recent example which might help illustrate it is the United States 2020 presidential election between two rabid anti-socialists; Joe Biden and Donald J. Trump (or any other US electoral process). If you feel strongly in favor of opting for lesser evilist methods and cannot refrain from commenting on it, please share it outside of r/Socialism. This is a space for conscious anti-capitalist analysis only.

Many non-right-wing folks have arrived and left in the past two years. Currently I can count 3 or 4 remaining users. I've found that there are many on Sadiit who are interested in arguing about misinformation, even if many of them are often mean-spirited. Saidit is not as extreme as communities.win, though many here also use that side. There are also a few users here who claim that they are not right-wing, though they support the right-wing misinformation. Anyhow: you make a very good point. The reason I remain is because I continue to learn from these people, and some of them are open to arguing about political issues. It is an abusive relationship however, wherein one must have a thick skin when dealing with mean and stupid accusations. It's not the best use of my time, but it can help to learn about the other sides of political arguments, even if some of the arguments here are merely narcissist, ant-iintellectualist, visceral desires rather than from positions of historical reflection and social thoughtfulness. The misinformation campaigns from the right appeal to those forms of selfishness, personfidied recently by Trump. TL:DR - it helps all of us to learn from other political viewpoints.

You may know that this is an oversimplification. Secret donations to PACs (of several kinds) are specifically to influence the public, constantly. There are $ billions in secret money in PACs, which are supposed to protect the identities of the donors. In that manner, the 99% continue to be unaware of the specific individuals who are buying the kind of influence that increases their profits at the espense of the 99%. We should see who the corrupt cowards are. We should stop supporting their businesses and the politicians they have in their pockets. Transparency like this helps us address corruption.

You may not know that Fox News started as a cable channel so that they could push right wing propaganda. They transitioned to TV and internet channels thereafter and are one of the most popular "news" [opinion] corporations in the US, and some of their shows are THE most popular political shows in the US, according to ratings and surveys. They've always been the most popular right-wing propaganda "news" channel in the US, though they are listed as 'entertainment' and opinion with the FCC. Fox News now represents 20 to 30% of the political interests in the US. No one in the US would see arguments against this influential station as strawman arguments. Fox is approximately a quarter of the main stream media in the US. (I hope this explains it.)

For example, Alex Asshole Jones would be required to include with his online rants comments by someone who disagrees with him. Before the Reagan Admin nixed this wondful law, Fox and other broadcasters were required to have counterpoint arguments in their political opinion shows. What's not okay is when they abuse government connections to have a monopoly.

Yep - this will allow anyone to abuse anyone, to the point of destroying the lives of others. the 1996 law partially allows that, so that defamation of character lawsuits and damages cannot be pursued for online hate crimes. Those who have the best resources can abuse others without penalty. This is particularly important for political groups supporting Abbott and DeSantis, as they will continue pushing misinformaiton, disinformation and messages of hatred much like those spread by kiwifarms. The Appellate court gas allowed for mafia, BigCorp, and PAC anti-democratic bullying, abuse, propaganda and misinformation spreading that will develop banana republics in the dumbest states. I genuinely don't understand why you would believe Trump or support his comments.

Don't play into the division

I appreciate that many want to believe these points of view, but if we look at political approaches over the past 40 years, one can see a trajectory of development whereby Democrats have consistently proposed and developed solutions for the 99%, whereas Republicans have consistently focused on making the 1% wealthier and on reducing the options for the 99%. Thus we've seen the development of extreme income inequality that's largely due to Republican activities over the past 4 decades. There have been Democrats who have helped the Republicans along the way.

Aren't you tired of manufactured problems to sell a solution?

My view is that any major corporate enterprise can be manipulated by corrupt administrators. Give people the option to have solor panels on their own houses, and they rely less on Big ENergy. It seems that DeSantis does not want to support home-owners purchases of solor panels, which in turn supports Big Solar and wind companies as the only other options for green energy. That said, Florida has a minimal investment in these areas. All things considered however, a move away from fossil fuels is extremely important (for a lot of reasons) and DeSantis and others continue to support these fossil fuel companies, which have invested millions in right wing politicians in Florida.

OK - we can agree on these points (on second thought).

A discussion of section 230 would be more interesting, IMO, because that is indeed quite tricky. I'm now reading about it here:

https://www.brookings.edu/blog/techtank/2021/05/14/section-230-reform-deserves-careful-and-focused-consideration/

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/2972

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_230

https://www.theverge.com/21273768/section-230-explained-internet-speech-law-definition-guide-free-moderation

https://hbr.org/2021/08/its-time-to-update-section-230

Whereas I would agree that a full repeal of that section is a very bad idea, it does need to be updated. The lawsuits this could cause, if there is a substantial repeal, would be ridiculous, especially in such a litigious place like the US. But a major update is necessary, IMO, because kiwifarms, communities.win and some other places can legally ruin people's lives. I don't know the answer to this, but any actions that lead to a hate crime should at least be consider, whereas hate speech should certainly be protected. .

Fuck - they removed the statement at the top, below the headline, which I quote above. It noted that their source is the biography. Since then the article was updated: " Updated: 12:36 BST, 16 September 2022 " Before the update, the article also excluded important points, which are now in place, along with quotations.

I should avoid this place like the plague.

The main problem is the headline, which is not supported by what happened or by what is in the article. The Executive Branch cannot "demand" that Congress do anything, unless the this branch wants to look idiotic. That's not the role of the each branch of government, and most importantly, it's not what Biden did.

He said: "I am calling on Congress to get rid of special immunity for social media companies and impose much stronger transparency requirements on all of them." SO THAT "white supremacists will not have the last word, and this venom and violence cannot be the story of our time."

There are already Federal Hate Crime laws: https://www.justice.gov/hatecrimes/laws-and-policies

Biden is merely "calling on Congress" to enforce the laws that are already in place, though now with a a focus on social media. There have been many times whe social media had to comply with requests from the US government, and they've deleted numerous accounts and posts that were obviously in violation of federal or state laws.

The only newsworthy aspect of Biden's comments is that he wants to draw attention to white spremacy social media posts that can often lead to hate crimes, and indeed some of them help white supremacits organize their activities.

The Daily Mail has lied about Biden in the headline, who did not 'demand' anything.

Well - at least you're reading the articles. There are many more. This topic is a "no-brainer". Anyone on Saidit defending DeSantis, while angry with the abuses of BigCorp need to have their head checked. The article you read is much more balanced, focusing on the hope that DeSantis will help green energy companies next year, while also noting that Florica is WAY BIHIND states like New Jersey for their solar energy (15% vs 65% in NJ). He won't. They know it. Also very important:

Frankly, this bill double-dipped. Power companies already used their solar losses to help secure recent record rate increases. They also had secured the right to charge solar customers a minimum monthly bill to cover the costs of maintaining the grid.

It's one of many clever tactics meant to show support for green energy when his veto - within the larger context - is actually not so significant for BigCorp Energy, which has bribed its way to becomming a state monopoly, will continue to raise rates and make a windfall of billions in profits. This is THE most obvious MO for corrupt assholes like DeSantis. If Saiditors have any complaints about corrupt money in politics, this is a crystal clear example.

[–]asshole[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes indeed - this is the beauty of pay-to-play Republican governance - BigOil, BigCorp, BigPharma, etc, and big investors donate millions to DeSantis so that they can raise rates on the 99% without regulation and especially without competition from green and renewable energy companies:

https://www.energyandpolicy.org/floridas-investor-owned-utilities-spent-heavily-on-republican-interest-groups-in-2020-elections/

This is the foundation of extreme income inequality that's crippling the US.

Much more here:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=desantis+donations+from+power+companies&va=b&t=hc&ia=web

He'll likely run for president because he's very good at this form of corruption. He's a posterboy of GOP & corporate grift and corruption.

It's Evil that Abbot is using buses of migrants as political pawns. He is removing them from the usual process, which is to put migrants in these detention centers until they can be returned:

Abbot is violating the rights of these migrants, while costing taxpayers much more for the detention process, when the migrants don't go the appropriate detention centers.

Of course he doesn't know my old username, however. Anyhow, his concerns about math problems should be resolvable if he can spend more time with the equations.

they didn't want to upset the Pakistani community

My view is that this is one of their many excuses for not doing their jobs well. The UK allows its employees to be lazy fucks. It's almost impossible to fire them. My main concern is that many are complaining in the news media that the cops aren't going after criminals, even when given good information about who the criminals are. This is a recent development. Burglaries, roberies, knifings, rapes, and much more are not being investigated. The UK police spokesperson makes the same excuse: not enough cops. Top that off with - "we don't want to hurt the feelings of brown criminals, so we let them go" - which really pisses me off. By American standards, UK tax payers pay a bloody fortune for these pussy police excuses. Tories love it because they can watch the rabble fight amongs themselves about their loss of property, while the Torries fuck over the country. I don't like the incessant excuses. Meanwhile, the BBC are interviewing people almost 24/7 (BBC Special report throughout the day since Thursday on channels 1 & 2) since last Friday about the Queen's death and they all say that "SHE DID SO MUCH FOR US." Let me spell it out for your dumbass: whatever the problems are regarding political correctness, the reasons UK police aren't going after criminals is not because of what they are called, for fuck's sake; it's because the UK police are NOT doing their fucking jobs. If they did their fucking jobs, there would be photos of the gangs, where one could see the fucking Pakistani-British people in the lineups. It's that simple. Eat healthier food; less pancakes.

NATO Nazis

Seems like something Putin would say. (They're definitely not Nazis.)

The Norton and Blumenthal opinions are interesting, I'll admit, even if they tend to go overboard with the click-baity hype. Sometimes I wonder if they know how much their dramatic comments play into the game played by $100s of millions in Russian propaganda aimed at destabilizing public opinion, economies, politics, &c, which makes the US and other countries ripe for authoritarian political candidates like DeSantis, Abbott, Trump &c. It's unlikely they'd be in office without the assistance of Russian propaganda. Norton and Blumenthal are also the kinds of writers who receive millions in propaganda funds from authoritarian special interest groups (though I appreciate that you don't agree that they are supporting authoritarianism).
