Absolutely. Like I'm more than happy for people to have their crazy theories, and I can hide conspiracy theories from /s/all but then politics is flooded with it. Not the worst, if I actually care about politics I'm probably looking at a sub about a specific branch. Then they're in Saidit, and videos, and whatever and basically anything that hits the front page is filled with them. Just keep it contained so we don't have it forced on us.

Gonna be honest here, I think there's connections being made where there aren't necessarily any.

I made an account anticipating the shutdown of LGBdroptheT, rightfully so.

Just because I want to communicate in a space that isn't going full nazi on free speech doesn't mean that I enjoy having constant anti-jewish racism on the front page. If it were just a sub, then go for it, but I don't particularly want to mute "politics" and just the general "saidit" subs because daily they're spammed with racist bullshit.

It's not that I want censorship, it's that I want these views to have their own distinct places that people are able to mute and hide without hiding the most predominant subs.

It's a forum that will allow you to post views others see as racist, that doesn't mean that everyone here is only here to be constantly bombarded by it.

I've been listening to some of Abigail Shrier's book about the transexual craze at the moment, and in her research it sounds like A LOT of therapists are very scared to lose their license because of stupid requirements for dealing with gender matters. It's not that they'll lie and tell him he doesn't have it, it's that they'll amlost certainly call any sort of tendancy towards the other gender 'dyphoria' and be pushing him towards transition.

There are some interesting stories on the detrans sub about situations like this. Guys who like the attention of being female, but aren't trans. I was reading about a guy who felt completely misled by psychologists who instantly told them they were trans and pushed for transition for occsionally dressing up, when it really turned out to be more of a kink. Sounds pretty similar to your situation.

And I think you have to see that there's a divide between these two phenomena. With LGB being 'trendy' it gives people more of a willingness to have more of an open mind and try out different things. Really being bicurious is basically no different than trying a different kink. Deciding you're a different gender and severely damaging yourself mentally and physically, or worse, encouraging young people to do it because it's 'normal' and having it taught in schools is just that, damaging.

She got a LOT of shit for "retroactively" making Dumbledore gay. He was clearly intended to be gay from the get go. He wore bright purple robes when everyone else wore black or dark colours. In the first book he 'cries at how beautiful music is.' He wears bonnets and women's hats every Christmas that crackers are mentioned. Then in the final book, he has a fling with Grindelwald. She wrote a gay character who basically got to the seventh book where Harry realises "hey, I never really knew anything personal about him," and he kept a very teacher/student relationship with him even if it was a close one, his sexuality was not relevant to the story.

The fact that people got angry because she didn't write "Hello Harry, I'm Dumbledore and I'M GAY!!!" just shows how close-minded people are. It's one of the better inclusions of a gay character in current media because he wasn't forcing his sexuality down our throats, he wasn't defined by his sexuality, and he wasn't just the congealed ball of stereotypes we usually get represented by in media.

The black Hermione thing though, that was just shitty. I'm half giving her the benefit of the doubt that it was more of a "you can't say you won't hire an actress based on race" but we all know it was just a publicity stunt.

No. Faggot has had tens of different meanings through time, and if it just means "bad" now instead of a negative connotation of "gay," then that's something to be celebrated.

Gay by this point is a colloquialism for bad and by context can just mean bad without meaning "this is bad, and gay is bad, so this is gay." I know plenty of gay people who say it as much as any straight person. Bringing it up and getting all holier than thou over it is really causing more damage than fixing anything.

Yeah, I saw some data posted on lgb-t the other day that acceptance of LGBT has actually gone down in the last few years. I know it's hard to prove, but I seriously think these oppressive, aggressive people who force radical views and demand constant media attention over things like gender identity have legitimately made people feel less connected and accepting of us as a whole. It's a damn shame.

Sadly it doesn't matter what stats say because these sorts of people don't want acceptance, they just want attention, and to be the ones who do the oppressing rather than ending oppression.

See the difference is that those stereotypes "man doctor," "woman nurse" were being worked towards being abolished. Now people are trying to push this concept of going against the stereotype means you aren't the same gender any more or you're shunted along some spectrum based on extremists ideals of genders, like a male nurse is part woman or genderfluid and shit. I reject that idea.

And, like all forms of philosophy based entirely on a man-made concept, my opinion is just as valid as anyone elses, and boils down to as many contradictions when questioned far enough. Trying to create hard and fast rules for these things never produces a concrete, infallible law of nature, and any given theory is an valid choice.

I largely agree with you. I find drag completely tasteless and don't see how dressing up as something you're not and portraying a bunch of stereotypes is somehow demonised in one situation and celebrated in another.

We men hear you too. We have people saying they're men because they like to wear pants. We have singers telling us that "If I were your gender, I'd be a heartless, cheating, lazy piece of shit!"

You know what, neither gender is so shallow that just dressing like them makes you one of them, and stereotypes don't reflect most of us accurately. These people who have the gall to say they know they're the opposite gender have no frame of reference for what that gender has ever felt like, and idolise and fetishise just the smiley, happy, "grass is always greener" sides of the other sex. There is zero way to prove the way you feel isn't the exact same way every other person of your gender feels and they're just dealing with it better or not fixated on the negatives.

So yes, own your gender. Fight the people who think they can claim to be one of you just because they like something "feminine" or "masculine."

I'm from Australia and it's always been so foreign to me that Americans seem to be such a dichotomy. Sure we all have our views down here and it usually goes one way or the other, but with American people commenting on stuff it's always "I scraped my knee today, FUCK THE LEFT IT'S THEIR FAULT" or "It rained today and I got slightly wet because THE FUCKING RIGHT RUIN EVERYTHING."

I swear people take every single situation and try to tie it to the political party they don't like. You disagree with someone on a completely non-political point and their immediate response is "YOU OBVIOUSLY SUPPORT THE [insert side I don't support]" or "TYPICAL TRUMP SUPPORTER/HATER."

America. Calm the fuck down. Keep your political views to a minimum outside of distinctly political places because I guarantee you, the person you're talking to almost certainly doesn't give a shit. If they do, it's probably because they're just equally insane over the split between left and right and either want to jerk you off for agreeing or argue for disagreeing with no actual goal of having any form of insightful debate.
