Maybe as a man he just preferred creating male characters, that's his choice and completely fine, there are women who do the same with female characters. Never stopped me from enjoying the work when I was a child. It would only be a problem if there were barely any women/girls depicted in kids books but that isn't the case. The perpetrators, whether straight or gay, are going to find a victim somewhere. The question is how to stop them completely. They need to be taught empathy somehow. They need to be sufficiently pained by the idea of the pain they could cause to another to not do this. I don't know how to teach empathy, but it's really important that we try to work on this if we want to problem to disappear or diminish.
