Saidit is getting shitty, full of losers that keep banging their head against the things that they hate, small simple minds that focus on division, that keep talking about how scary the left is, how bad white people are treated (with no sense of irony) how bad the protestors make them feel LOL etc by EndlessSunflowers in whatever

Then stay above it. I know you're venting, but you're also falling into the same line that you're venting against here. I come from a different political point of view than you, but I do enjoy your posts. I think they are positive to this site and discussion in general.

This site draws posters because it gives them a soapbox for their opinions (and frustrations), so we tend to hear extremes as much as reason. Some, who have trouble in real life communicating with others, use this site as a way to let others "hear" them. Just remember that there are many more people who read than post or comment. They are looking for information and most are smart enough to sift through the garbage and truth twisting (or lies). Everyone also has a voice here, whether we agree or disagree, They have a voice whether or not we think it's shitty.

Seriously, if anyone is concerned about a single user a group of users posting too big of the share of new posts, then I think the problem is others not posting enough, not that some are posting too much.

My Thoughts on What's Wrong with Saidit by Nemesis in whatever

[–]Zapped 13 insightful - 4 fun13 insightful - 3 fun14 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

It would be easy for me to read this post and think "what a whiner". But you are experessing what a lot of us are feeling. Saidit was born from the purge of mainly political free speech at Reddit, so political speech is going to dominate here. I would also like to see a site like Reddit with a variety of interests and groups, but there is still Reddit for a lot of those non-political interests that keeps people from looking or migrating elsewhere. A quick look at your recent comment history shows a heavy slant towards politics. Maybe you just don't want to hear points of view other than what you have already settled decided you like. (Me neither, since I'm never wrong.)

If I can throw in my 2 cents, I have noticed that topics stay at the top for days and days, even after comments have slowed down. Other sites have a much quicker rotation. I don't know what the correct answer is on this one, but it seems like this site is stale conpared to others.

I have to defend u/endlesssunflowers on this one. I disagree with their political stance, but they are one of the few people that make regular contributions as posters. Plus, they post in areas besides politics.

Broke Liberals by TheJamesRocket in memes

It doesn't only pertain to liberals. Managing personal finance is a skill, just like any other life skill. We live in a time of cheap "stuff". The problem, I think, is over consumption, as your meme says. So many people don't understand that marketers are fighting to get you to spend your money on their wares, plus financiers are trying to get you to spend your future money on a lesser amount of their current money. This should be part of the school curriculum.

I think the main strength is that all opinions are welcomed to be expressed and any reasoning or evidence to back up those opinions can be given without ridicule by the group. I've only seen some individual acts of dismissiveness here. Maybe that's because this site attracts users who are more independent-minded in nature.

I would agree, except he does make some interesting posts. Some of his older audio posts added a lot of interesting content. I'm not going to psychoanalyze Ed other than his sense of humor doesn't translate sometimes, but I don't see his posts as drowning out the overall talk here. As other's have said, us active users should try to add more interesting content. I've seen some posts take off that I didn't think would, and I've seen some I thought were discussion worthy drift off without a comment.

I will add that I've seen some phishing going on here trying to triangulate user data, so be careful how much info you give around here.

Actually, he was part of a militia. They were there to defend property owners against the riot mob. You may not understand the rules concerning how a militia can form and operate. Your statements on him pursuing the mob and not trying to avoid having to shoot people are flat out wrong using the video evidence available to everyone. I'm surprised because you are usually more careful with your facts here.

SaidIt Survey: Ban /u/socks and /u/ActuallyNot or keep them around? by JasonCarswell in AskSaidIt

[–]Zapped 9 insightful - 5 fun9 insightful - 4 fun10 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

The problem is that the rules here can be arbitrary. I have refrained from commenting because so many have already put into words, better than me, how I feel about the matter. Is one comment calling someone a name breaking the rules? What about calling someone a name while making an argument? What about using "debate" to work users into a frenzy? I think we each have a responsibility to discriminate which comments are genuine and which are from shills or trolls; whether for fun or profit. As u/Basghetti touched on: if you can prove they are actively trying to wreck the site and shutter discussion here, then that would be an open-and-shut case for banning, in my opinion.

How I deal with users I think are bad actors or have a mental issue? I don't block them. I glance over their comments and don't give them much credence. The replies to those comments can be more insightful on how others react. Truth be told, it frustrates me sometimes how worked up you can get in those conversations. I think you waste energy you can use elsewhere. There are some pertinent quotes about arguing on this link: https://celebrateyoga.org/41-quotes-arguing-idiots/
