This - and - in the US - the long tradition of US involvement in 120+ military conflicts since the mid-19th century, some of which involving Israel (like Israel's photos and lobbying that caused 1 million+ inexcusable excess deaths in Iraq). Part of the answer to this question is the highly profitable US and European military industrial complexes that create wars and normalizes their activities through massive international news media companies.

I think some of these folded because of the lack of competitive management, though also because of the long tradition of buying and selling websites, whereby competitor websites eventually take over market share. For example:

In June 2011, Specific Media Group and Justin Timberlake jointly purchased the Myspace for approximately $35 million. On February 11, 2016, it was announced that Myspace and its parent company had been purchased by Time Inc. for $87 million. Time Inc. was in turn purchased by Meredith Corporation on January 31, 2018.

But it's this kind of dumb, ill-informed comment that makes new users like Titanic leave Saidit. Most people are centrists, with occasional 'right' or 'left' political agreements. What's killing Saidit is general idiocy.

For example, many on the so-called different sides of politics will agree that mass immigration to the US is a serious problem that's also the reason for the massive BIPARTISAN bill to fund additional staff at the US border with Mexico. Everyone wanted this. Trump did not, because he wants the problem to continue. He told Repugs NOT to approve it. And here we are, all agreeing that mass illegal immigration to the US is a serious problem. Some might want to defend Trump's actions (not sure why). Some might want to point out that Republicans are literally grifting demons. It can all be done in a civil manner (as was initially assumed by magnora7 and d3rr long ago) and new users would remain. But the assumption that 'libtards' are 'butthurt' about people leaving Reddit for Saidit makes as much sense as tits on a turtle. Any 'liberal' person wouldn't waste time at a website like Saidit. Hence their butts wouldn't hurt, nor would they have mental problems. Studies have shown that spending time at Saidit lowers one's IQ by 20 points.

/u/Titanic some of the users here aren't nuts; hope you return when possible.

Which would be true in ALL audits about massive projects that cost $24 billion over 5 years, becase of different methods and processes for each outcome measure. The most important part of the audit - in my view - is that there was potential fraud in the management of conflicts of interest and the overpayment of salaries, which might now be under investigation. Seems to me Iran proved that no one can take them seriously if their idea of a response was to send those random pathetic missiles that they must have known Israel could shoot down. Iran knows Israel have wanted to attack at a larger scale for decades, and were stopped during the Obama admin (2012-15) with a nuclear treaty, which was cancelled turing Trump's admin (2017-18) so that Israel could attack at will. Now Iran responds in this pathetic way, knowing what's likely to happen - more attacks from Israel, which continue years of smaller attacks against Iran. Whatever Israel does, the US will unfortunately be considered part of it, naturally. Non-government Iranians - the 99% - don't want this, though they would suffer the most.

One person commenting on BBC News from Israel said that previously "Jews" did not have the military capablity to "defend themselves" [by attacking Iran], but now they do, and they should attack [more than they normaly do]. So the Israel right wing see this as something for all Jews, something Israel needs to do. /u/Smalls provides in the chat/subscribed this list of the previous attacks.

Something I've perhaps learned on Saidit is that the disinformation of the far right has reached in its followers a level of psychosis. Today on the BBC news they interviewed a pro-Trump supporter outside the courtroom - a middle-age lady - who said genuinely that if Trump is put in jail 'we'll go home and get our guns and start a civil war'. Part of me wants to see them try and fail at that. But it's sadly much worse to have the normalization of some of their insane beliefs in the daily news and across all social media. And of course the rest of the world is watching this small group of schizo dumbasses, sometimes identifying them as standard Americans.

If you don't like NATO and want to remove the US from it, write to your congressperson. Putin and Trump also want the US to quit NATO. NATO countries are in NATO specifically to defend ithemselves and potentially their neighbors from Russian mass murder, mass displacement, rape, assult, invasion, complete destruction of cities, and much more, because we know the Russian government has no moral compass and will try to retake all former Soviet nations. NATO should help Ukraine with aid, as that's been their post-WWII mission. Without the support of the US, Ukraine (which is NOT 3rd world) would be Russian.

If it were an act of war, Russia could have attacked NATO countries. You can read about the history of providing aid to countries so that they could defend themselves. Why is this so difficult to understand? NATO agreed to help Ukraine with various forms of aid, which is obviously not an act of war. This has happened many times before, in other conflicts. When the US is officially at war with Russia, you'll know it.

Biden has already told Israel that the US will not participate in any offensive operation against Iran,

At the moment, because there is no Congressional approval for that

but Biden should also tell Netanyahu that Israel would be on its own if Iran responds to an Israeli offensive operation.

That would be GREAT, but Biden doesn't have the authority to refuse declaring war on Iran

However, as I previously said to stop the conflict Biden should offer this proposal to Israel provided Egypt agrees. Egypt will be given the West Bank enlarged by land equivalent to the Gaza Strip. In return, Israel will be given the Gaza Strip and land at least 3 times larger than the West Bank in the Sinai Peninsula. Some of the land will be adjacent to water so Israel can build desalination plants. The Sinai is inhospitable, and Egypt doesn’t have the technology to develop it, but Israel does. With its new land, Egypt can give it to the Palestinians, make it a state within Egypt, or whatever it wants.

That depends on what Congress wants

If Israel doesn't accept the proposal or it's not feasible, the UN should impose a ceasefire.

Sadly, the UN also cannot arrange a binding resolution

The only way out is for the US Congress, and other governments, to impose sanctions on Israel and threaten to fire on Israel if Israel fires on Iran. That's of course highly unlikely, given the Israel lobby's control of Congress. The only real deterrent would be the threat of a nuclear attack from Iran. I'm not sure that's possible or realistic.

[–]YoMamma 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

No - Biden doesn't control the weapons agreement with Israel. Congress does that.

The President can influence negotiations, but that's all.

Here's an example of a US president's approach. Obama (mainly) and others stopped Israel from attacking Iran's nuclear program, by negotiating the 'Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action' in 2012-2015:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Comprehensive_Plan_of_Action

As you will see in that link, this involved Obama's initiative at several key stages. Israel was angry that this changed their plans:

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/15/world/middleeast/iran-nuclear-deal-israel.html

https://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahus-threats-to-attack-iran-panicked-obama-into-nuke-talks-author-says/

And as you'll see at that Wikipedia link, The Trump administration killed those arrangements in 2017-18.

You won't see this discussed in the Pro-Zionist media. Instead, Israel will use the usual argument that it's defending itself by attacking several countries in the Middle East, thereby dragging the West into those conflicts, as usual.

1) There is evidence of a historical Jesus, as one of many preachers teaching Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and other "Eastern" religions in Roman Palestine. There is no evidence of the exact person referred to as "Jesus of Nazareth"

2) There is evidence of the "Jewish Holocaust", though not sufficient evidence of the exact number of Jews killed

3) There is plenty of evidence - in the form of 6 billion people - that the COVID vaccine has been 'safe and effective'

4) There is NO evidence for that Biden quote

His approaches to disinformation have made him unelectable. His potential is to take votes that would otherwise go to Biden, thereby helping the worst president in US history to be reelected.

I downloaded the article. Nothing in it indicates that data was 'manufactured'.

These claims of fabricated data are entirely from Lt. Col. John Shewchuk, but no source is provided as evidence. (Typical for zerohedge.com, which is a disinformation website.)

Who is Lt. Col. John Shewchuk? According to his Twitter page, he's devoted to refuting causes of climate change, spreading that disinformation across several networks he belongs to.

It's John Shewchuk who fabricates data.

As usual, zerohedge.com is spreading disinformation.

Who does this benefit? Who pays for this? Guess.

So you'll appreciate that the reason they're hungry is because of the lie of "trickle-down economics" since the time of Reagan. $10 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy during the Trump admin NEVER trickled down, nor did any of the other tax cuts. I recall getting a few hundred and other small amounts on occasion from Republican tax cuts under several presidents since the 1980s, but never needed it. Meanwhile the money borrowed from China for those tax cuts increased into the trillions, and we're still paying that down. Investment in the economy is necessary, not tax cuts. That's what's happened in recent years, and the inflation rate in the US has dropped because of it. Republicans under the Trump admin saddled the US with over $10 trillion in debt and a massive inflation. Only insane voters assume that Trump will not bring back that same 'trickle down' theft and corruption.

And gold is going wild!

Which I think is normal a few months before a US election, and concerns about economic instability (re. the Fed not reducing interest rates due to relatively unchanged inflation in recent months, and especially due to the small potential of a Trump win for incredibly stupid voters barraged with non-stop right wing misinformation about problems Republicans created, but they're trying to pin on Democrats, while hoping idiot voters won't bother to look up the history of massive tax cuts for the wealthy adding to the deficit $10 trillion during Trump's admin, and a border crisis continued because the Republican bipartisan bill was cancelled when Trump simps cancelled it).

Look at the 3 links I provided. As noted at CNN, CPI is up 3.5% as of March. The reason that's not important is because it's a minor adjustment by conrast with the downward trend since 2021/22 (as shown in the graphs of the 3 links, which also agree that the CPI increase of late is 3.5%).

Nonetheless, there must be some hesitancy even towards saidit.

Yep

This is partly due to a certain lack of transparency about who owns/controls it.

We know who owns it, where he lives, his views on conspiracies, and his other views.

Let's not forget that privatizing digital town squares was done to bypass actual freedom of speech.

I know nothing about it.

Eventually, a non-privately/corporately owned platform, a publicly-owned platform, really analogous to a town square, has to eventually be created, where, by law and to the extent allowed by law, e.g. freedom of speech, is implemented.

I doubt that's possible.

I suppose we could merely dismiss the corroborated, widely trusted, footnoted, heavily researched information provided by politifact and WaPo, and leave it at that, with no evidence or arguments to the contrary. Indeed, we can use the uncorroborated misinformation propaganda spin at NYPost and argue that any disagreements with the NYPost are merely wrong. End of story. It's an excellent plan. We can avoid thinking altogether.

Thanks for the notes - though one thing I'd want to point out is that passing the bipartisan bill would have funded border security and staff who would have deported illegal migrants at a proper pace. $billions are required for this. McConnell clearly noted that the bill would have passed, but that they had to stop the bill because Trump wanted the border problems to continue ahead of the election. It was widely reported and quoted.

Yeah. I recall D3rr lamenting that the successes of new far right websites 3 or 4 years ago - after they were banned by Reddit - drew users away from Saidit. Magnora and D3rr had seen before that Saidit's usefulness as a place for Redidtors who were sick of mod abuse at Reddit. Magnora said back then that he did not expect Saidit to become far right, as he witnessed that happening 3 years ago. He had that discussion on Reddit. One response from a Redditor to Magnora 3+ years ago, when he invited them to Saidit, the Reddit alternative, was: "those schizo dumbasses"? Saidit can do much better to improve its reputation, especially if assholes can be dealt with. But I don't know if that will ever happen. I think there are only 3 or 4 users here who are somewhat left of center, only 2 of which are here almost daily or every other day. I agree with your post because I've witnessed the many reasons Saiditors leave Saidit, and the #1 cause is that there are some incredibly dumb and mean responses from some of the users, and the #2 cause might be the lack of activity, discussion and upvoting. One would perhaps think that political opinion drives users away, and perhaps it does, but everyone here seems to like to argue about politics, even if they get emotional or angry about it. So I don't see that as a primary problem. Saiditors are often identifying 'us' as a far right conspiracy website and telling anyone who is not like that to 'go back to Reddit'. This is of course another dumb aspect of Saidit. I think it's good for 'us' to take stock in what's happening here periodically and I thus appreciate you 'asking Saidit' fort their views.

Prayer group to speaks in tongues at Arizona Capitol, by invitation of Republicans who want a state ban on abortion by YoMamma in politics

[–]YoMamma[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, it's allowed. I am not making "1st Amendment insinuations against anything." I note the first Amendment because it separates church and state, for gery good reason (as anyone in the 18th century knew, religious wars destroyed much of Europe, and thus it was important to have laws that excluded religious extremism, some of which had been popular in the US). Congresspeople often argue about gods and prayer &c, and in this case a group was allowed to speak in tongues in the Arizona capitol. I am not arguing that this is not allowed. I could argue that it's an ethics violation in some state capitols to abuse the chamber like this, but it's certainly not illegal at the federal level. It's a way of disrespecting the US Constitution, and the US, by promoting a theocracy where there is a specific, important constitutional law against it. The US has thrived as a secular country, by contrast with theocratic leadership elsewhwre. Republicans who want religious extremism in the US should be shot.
