Boeing has multiple contracts with NASA, including a $4.2 billion contract for the Starliner spacecraft, a $3.2 billion contract for the Space Launch System (SLS) core and upper stages, and a two-year engineering and sustainment contract for the International Space Station (ISS)

Since the 2021 announcement of the partnership with SpaceX, NASA has announced additional contracts for Musk's space company as part of the moon landing mission. So far, SpaceX has received $2.8 billion.

Rep. Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee (Republican) admitted under oath to at least six affairs, including two experiences with his patients and staffers, while he was a physician at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, TN. While running on a pro-life political platform, DesJarlais coerced his ex-wife into having two abortions and tried to persuade a mistress, who was also his patient, into an abortion as well. (2011)

Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico (Republican) confessed in 2013 that he had fathered a son, Adam Laxalt, outside of his marriage in 1978. Laxalt's mother, Michelle Laxalt, is the daughter of Sen. Paul Laxalt and a prominent Republican lobbyist.

Rep. Vance McAllister of Louisiana (Republican), although married and the father of five, was caught on a surveillance camera kissing a married staffer in 2014. Several prominent Republicans asked McAllister to resign. McAllister did not resign, but he did not seek re-election. McCallister apologized, saying, "There's no doubt I've fallen short, and I'm asking for forgiveness. I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve."

Rep. Blake Farenthold of Texas (Republican) was reported to have paid $84,000 of taxpayer money via the House Office of Compliance to settle a sexual harassment complaint from a former staffer. Farenthold's former communications director, Lauren Greene, sued the congressman in December 2014,[156] and a settlement was reached in 2015. The identity of Farenthold was made public in 2017. This was the first documented case of taxpayer funds being used to settle sexual harassment complaints against a member of Congress.

Rep. Dennis Hastert of Illinois (Republican), former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, pled guilty in 2015 to structuring bank withdrawals to conceal misconduct by Hastert against an unnamed individual. At a sentencing hearing in October 2015, Hastert admitted that he had sexually abused boys while he worked as a high school wrestling coach decades earlier.

President Donald Trump (Republican) was accused of sexual assault by 25 women during the 2016 election, and he denied the allegations. (See Donald Trump sexual misconduct allegations.) The allegations arose after The Washington Post released a 2005 video of Trump recorded by Access Hollywood, in which he allegedly bragged about groping women. Trump himself renewed the controversy a year later by claiming that the video was fake, to which Access Hollywood replied, "Let us make this clear—the tape is genuine. Remember, his excuse at the time was 'locker-room talk.' He said every one of those words." The first reports of an alleged 2006 affair between Donald Trump and adult film star Stormy Daniels were published in October 2011 by the blog The Dirty and the magazine Life & Style (see Stormy Daniels–Donald Trump scandal).

Rep. Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania (Republican) had an extramarital affair with 32-year-old Shannon Edwards. The self-identified "pro-life" Murphy asked Edwards to have an abortion after she became pregnant. The information was revealed as part of Edwards's divorce proceedings and was published by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Murphy resigned his seat in Congress. (2016)

Rep. Joe Barton of Texas (Republican) acknowledged that he took and emailed nude photos of himself in 2015, following leaks of the photos in November 2017. He decided not to seek re-election in 2018.

Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona (Republican) was investigated in 2017 by the House Ethics Commission about allegations of improper conduct. Before the study concluded, Franks abruptly resigned.

Rep. Pat Meehan of Pennsylvania (Republican) used taxpayer funds to settle a sexual harassment claim levied by a female staffer, as revealed in January 2018. Meehan resigned on 27 April 2018, stating that he would repay the taxpayer money used to settle the suit.

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio (Republican) was accused of covering up and failing to report sexual abuse of minors while assistant coach for the Ohio State University wrestling team from 1987 to 1995. The team physician abused multiple victims during Jordan's tenure. On 12 February 2020, a former team member asserted that Jordan (was) "repeatedly crying and begging him not to corroborate accounts of sexual abuse against the university’s wrestling team doctor that occurred when Jordan was a coach."

Roy S. Moore of Alabama, a Republican candidate for the Senate, was accused by nine women of sexual contact and assault when the women were teenage girls in the 1980s. Moore denied the allegations but lost the election. (2017)

Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina (Republican) was accused in August 2020, by several women, of sexually aggressive behavior, sexual misconduct, and sexual assault. These allegations arose once more in February 2021 after a BuzzFeed News investigation into Cawthorn's college activities. The reporters found 20 witnesses to Cawthorn's harassment and interviewed four women who claimed he had harassed them. Cawthorn allegedly recklessly drove women in his car to remote areas off campus while asking them sexual questions, calling these journeys "fun drives". Two resident assistants said they warned women to avoid Cawthorn. A male acquaintance said that Cawthorn bragged about pulling a woman into his lap and putting a finger between her legs. On May 4, 2022, a sex tape of Cawthorn began circulating online, showing a naked Cawthorn in bed with another man, thrusting his genitals in the man's face. Cawthorn acknowledged the film's veracity but said the video was made "years ago" when he was "being crass with a friend".

Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida (Republican) allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl in 2019. In March 2021, The New York Times reported that Gaetz was being investigated by the Department of Justice (DOJ). Investigators examined whether he had violated federal sex trafficking laws. Gaetz denied any wrongdoing and claimed that he and his family were "victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25 million." As of 2023, Gaetz has not been charged.

Rep. Tom Reed of New York (Republican) was accused by a lobbyist of sexual harassment on 19 March 2021 for an incident at a bar. In a statement made on 21 March 2021, he apologized to his accuser and said he would not seek re-election. On 10 May 2022, he announced his resignation on the House floor effective immediately.

Rep. Van Taylor of Texas (Republican), allegedly had an extramarital affair with counter-extremism activist Tania Joya in 2020 and 2021, per Joya's claims in February 2022. Taylor won a plurality but not a majority in the primary and faced a runoff election before suspending his campaign and later formally withdrawing from the runoff.

Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) U.S. House of Representatives from the 11th District was accused by several women of sexually aggressive behavior, and of insider trading, appearing in a nude video, appearing in women's lingerie and trying to bring a loaded gun onto an airplane, accusations of orgies and conduct “not becoming of a congressman.” He lost the next Republican nomination. Republicans should be called the Sex Scandal Party. They're also famously obsessed with genitals. Here's a brief sample of scandals:

Rep. Robert Bauman of Maryland (Republican) was charged with attempting to solicit sex from a 16-year-old male prostitute. After Bauman completed an alcoholism rehabilitation program, the charges were dropped. Bauman apologized to voters for his indiscretions but was defeated for re-election. (1980)

Rep. Jon Hinson of Mississippi (Republican) resigned in 1981 after being charged with attempted sodomy for performing oral sex on a male employee of the Library of Congress.

Rep. Thomas Evans of Delaware (Republican) went golfing in Florida with nude model and lobbyist Paula Parkinson, who later suggested that her lobbying techniques had been "unusually tactile". Though Evans apologized for any appearance of impropriety, he was voted out of office in 1982. Future Vice-President Dan Quayle and Congressman Tom Railsback also went on the golf trip but were not implicated in the scandal; Marilyn Quayle said it was common knowledge that her husband would "rather play golf than have sex any day." (1981)

Rep. John G. Schmitz of California (Republican), the leader of the ultra-conservative John Birch Society, admitted to having a second family but refused to accept or support the two children he fathered, those children becoming wards of the state in 1982. In 1997, his daughter Mary Kay Letourneau was convicted of raping a 12-year-old male student of hers.

Rep. Dan Crane of Illinois (Republican) and Rep. Gerry Studds of Massachusetts (Democrat) were both convicted on 20 July 1983 in the Congressional Page sex scandal for having sex with a 17-year-old congressional page.

Rep. Ernie Konnyu of California (Republican) was accused by multiple women of sexual harassment. In one instance, he asked a female aide to move her name tag because it drew attention to her breasts, about which he later said, "she is not exactly heavily stacked, OK?” He also reportedly touched the knee of lobbyist Polly Minor during a lunch, which caused a scene. Republican leaders, already unhappy with Konnyu's temperament, found a new candidate in Stanford professor Tom Campbell, who defeated Konnyu in the next election. (1987)

Rep. Donald "Buz" Lukens of Ohio (Republican) was convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for having sex with a 16-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500. (1989)

Rep. Arlan Stangeland of Minnesota (Republican) lost his campaign for re-election in 1990, mainly because of a scandal in which he made several hundred long-distance phone calls on his House credit card to a female lobbyist in Virginia. He admitted making the calls but denied having a romantic relationship with the woman. He subsequently retired from politics.

Rep. Ken Calvert of California (Republican) was involved with a prostitute in 1993 but claimed that no money was involved, and he was not arrested. Calvert apologized several months later, saying, "My conduct that evening was inappropriate.... it violated the values of the person I strive to be."

Sen. Robert Packwood of Oregon (Republican) resigned from office in 1995 after 29 women came forward with claims of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault. His denials of wrongdoing were eventually contradicted by his diaries boasting of his sexual conquests.

Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia (Republican) had an affair while married to his second wife. Barr was the first lawmaker in either chamber to call for Clinton's resignation due to the Lewinsky scandal. Barr lost a primary challenge less than three years after the impeachment proceedings. (1998)

Rep. Dan Burton of Indiana (Republican) admitted to fathering a child with a former state employee in 1983. In 1998, Vanity Fair printed an article detailing Burton's affair; Burton admitted to the affair before the issue's publication. In 1995, speaking about the sex scandals of Robert Packwood and Bill Clinton, Burton had stated that no government official "should be allowed to get away with these alleged sexual improprieties." (1998)

Rep. Robert Livingston of Louisiana (Republican) called for the resignation of Bill Clinton in 1998, after which news of Livingston's own extramarital affairs was leaked. His wife pressed him to resign and to urge Clinton to resign.

Rep. Newt Gingrich of Georgia (Republican), leader of the Republican Revolution of 1994, resigned from the House after admitting in 1998 to having had an affair with a staffer while he was married to his second wife. During his affair, Gingrich was leading the impeachment of Bill Clinton for perjury regarding the latter's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Rep. Ed Schrock of Virginia (Republican) announced that he would terminate his 2004 attempt for a third term in Congress after allegedly being caught on tape soliciting sex with men, despite having aggressively opposed various gay-rights issues in Congress, such as same-sex marriage and gays in the military.

Rep. Steven C. LaTourette of Ohio (Republican) had a long-term extramarital affair with his chief of staff, Jennifer Laptook. He married Laptook after divorcing his previous wife. (2003)

Rep. Don Sherwood of Pennsylvania (Republican) failed to win re-election following revelations of a five-year extramarital affair with Cynthia Ore, who accused him of physically abusing her. (2004)

Rep. Mark Foley of Florida (Republican) resigned his House seat when accused of sending sexually explicit e-mails to teenage male congressional pages. He was replaced by Tim Mahoney. (2006)

Rep. Jim Gibbons of Nevada (Republican) was campaigning for governor when he walked waitress Chrissy Mazzeo to her car. She claimed he threw her against a wall and threatened to assault her sexually. He claimed she tripped, and he caught her. The civil lawsuit was settled with the payment of $50,000 to Mazzeo. Six weeks later, he was elected governor. (2006)

Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana (Republican) took over the seat of former Rep. Robert Livingston, who resigned in 1999 following revelations of an extramarital affair. At the time, Vitter stated, "I think Livingston's stepping down makes a compelling argument that (Bill) Clinton should resign as well." Vitter's name was then discovered in the address book of Deborah Jeane Palfrey (the "D.C. Madam"). (2007)

Deputy Secretary of State Randall L. Tobias (Republican) resigned on 27 April 2007, after confirming that he had been a customer of Deborah Jeane Palfrey (the "D.C. Madam"). As the former "AIDS Czar" appointed by George W. Bush, Tobias had stated that U.S. funds should be denied to countries that permitted prostitution.

Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho (Republican) was arrested on 11 June 2007 and charged with lewd conduct arising from his behavior in a men's restroom at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport. Craig pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct; he later unsuccessfully sought to withdraw his guilty plea. He announced his resignation on 1 September 2007 but changed his mind. He did not seek re-election in 2008.

Rep. Vito Fossella of New York (Republican) was arrested for drunken driving in 2008. Under questioning, the married Congressman and father of three admitted to an affair with Laura Fay that produced a daughter.

Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina (Democrat) admitted to an extramarital affair with actress and film producer Rielle Hunter, which produced a child. The scandal seriously undercut his 2008 presidential campaign.

Sen. John Ensign of Nevada (Republican) resigned his position as chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee on 16 June 2009, after admitting an affair with the wife of a close friend, both of whom were working on his campaign. In 2011, while under investigation, he resigned his Senate seat.

Rep. Chip Pickering of Mississippi (Republican) lost his marriage and political career after an extramarital affair, according to the alienation of affection lawsuit that his wife filed on 16 July 2009 against his alleged mistress.

Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina (Republican) disappeared from the state for nearly a week in June 2009. After returning, Sanford publicly revealed that he had engaged in an extramarital affair. Sanford had led his staff to believe that he was going hiking on the Appalachian Trail but went to visit his mistress, Maria Belén Chapur, in Argentina. The scandal led to his censure by the South Carolina General Assembly and his resignation as chair of the Republican Governors Association. However, Sanford completed his second term as governor.

Rep. Eric Massa of New York (Democrat) resigned in 2010 to avoid an ethics investigation into his admitted groping and tickling of multiple male staffers. He later stated on Fox News, "Not only did I grope [a staffer], I tickled him until he couldn't breathe."

Rep. Mark Souder of Indiana (Republican), a staunch advocate of abstinence and family values, resigned in 2010 to avoid an ethics investigation into his admitted extramarital affair with a female staffer.

Rep. Chris Lee of New York (Republican) resigned in 2011 after a news report stated that he had sent flirtatious emails and a shirtless picture of himself flexing his muscles to a woman via Craigslist using his official Congressional email. Lee apologizing, stating, "I regret the harm my actions have caused my family, staff, and constituents.... I have made profound mistakes and promise to work as hard as possible to seek their forgiveness."

Yes - to all of this. David Campbell writes about the significance of the 'longbowman versus the crossbowman' during the 100 years' war, which is a nice summary of the Sluys, Crécy, and Poitiers battles (2017). Regarding Crécy, a signifcant benefit for the English was logistics, as the French were stuck in a marshy soil and the English had the high ground and could work at a longer distance. Canon in those early days were used essentially as noise makers and to attack doors and walls of fortifications. Trebuchets were also quite deadly. I'd argue that the medieval European battlefield and siege strategies ended with the battle of Fornovo (1495), where the French and their substantial advantage with cannon ended with their expulsion from Italian city states. For naval warfare, the Battle of Lepanto (1571) was a significant turning point, where the Christians had well over double the guns and cannon on their ships than the Turks (1,815 vs. 750, and not much ammo.). Turks relied significantly on their famous composite bowmen.

Oh come on, you're obviously suffering an existential crisis, that you search in vain for the kinds of gorillas you have loved and lost. Know you however that a good gorilla is easy to spot, but hard to find. Indeed, our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt. Perseverance, ForbiddenKnowledge, keeps honour bright: to have done, is to hang quite out of fashion, like a rusty nail in monumental mockery. Indeed sweet are the uses of adversity which, like the toad, ugly and venomous, wears yet a precious jewel in his head. The course of true love never did run smooth. Let you not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments. Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove: o, no! it is an ever-fixed mark, that looks on tempests and is never shaken; it is the star to every wandering bark, whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken. Love’s not Time’s fool, though a gorilla's lovely lips and cheeks within your bending sickle’s compass come. Love alters not with your brief hours and weeks, but bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon you proved, you never writ, nor no man ever loved. You may yet find your true love.

Bill Hicks - in his own words (mostly), by Keith R. Higgons, #OPEN_TO_WORK

November 4, 2022

Satire is as old as human history… although I have to wonder why there isn’t any in religious texts. I suppose the dogma in them could be considered satirical… but I digress.

Comedy is a big part of my life. It always has been. If you knew my family, you’d understand it had to be.

My parents provided so much for me throughout my life: support, guidance, a near-crippling fear of interpersonal relationships, and the resulting need for decades of therapy, but they also introduced me to the joy of stand-up comedy.

On Saturday evenings during the winter we spent living in Canada, my parents, my brother, and I would gather around the hi-fi (yep, it was a hi-fi) listening to stand-up comedy. In particular, one comedian.

My gateway into the world of comedy would be the man who, over decades, shattered racial barriers, helped “normalize” stand-up comedy, and would become known as “America’s dad.” Unfortunately, this guy would end his career by being outed and convicted as a serial rapist… but I digress.

It was right around this time that I saw Andy Kaufman do “Foreign Man” on Saturday Night Live - it’s hard to think of two more divergent comedy styles, but both straight stand-up and the absurd remain my favorites (let’s not get into Monty Python and sketch comedy).

Andy Kaufman’s six-minute bit on that first episode of SNL should be in the Smithsonian.

Over the years, weaving in and out of my life would be Cheech and Chong, Mort Sahl, Bob Newhart, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Lenny Bruce, Sam Kinison, etc. In late 1994, I was flying to Ohio for a friend’s wedding, and I stumbled on an article in The New Yorker by John Lahr - “The Goat Boy Rises.”

It was about a comedian I had never heard of - William Melvin Hicks, better known as Bill Hicks.

Lahr details the unfortunate, nay tragic, story about how, in 1993, comedian Bill Hicks had been cut out of an episode of the new David Letterman show on CBS.

The number of drafts, subjective legal lunacy, and hoops that a clean comedian has to jump through to appear on television would test the patience of a Buddhist monk.

Bill Hicks knew the deal; because he did not work cleanly. In short, he cleaned up the jokes enough to make it through the CBS labyrinth in order to make it onto the stage at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

In any event, as I sat reading Lahr’s article 30,000 feet above the ground, I was struck by two things:

As a long-time Letterman devotee, I realized there had to be something more at play why Letterman censored Hicks. Their relationship included 11 previous appearances on his show when it was on NBC. It would take about 10/15 years, but eventually, the dust settled, and the truth revealed itself. Letterman’s decision was driven by insecurity (Letterman’s word), fear, and, like everything else, commerce.

Reading the cut segment’s text in The New Yorker, I realized that Bill Hicks wasn’t just a comedian; the man was a prophet (ok, that’s a stretch, but he spoke to me). This was more than just comedy - it was satire, philosophy, and social commentary; it was… just different. I quickly realized that Hicks was the funniest (and smartest) comedian I had run across. I wanted to turn to the guy next to me, jam the magazine in his face, and say: “READ THIS!"

I discovered Lahr’s article before we had the world on our phones and could pull this kinda stuff up in a matter of seconds.

With that said, Bill Hicks’s albums became my white whale for a few years. While visiting a friend in Knoxville, I stumbled onto Rant in E-minor. Obviously, I bought it, and my friend and I returned to his place and dropped the CD in.

As he and I sat in the living room, our faces wet with tears of laughter, we could hear our lady friends’ eyes rolling as they sighed into their chardonnay. They each knew they would suffer the consequences of having our comedic third eye squeegeed.

Over the years, the Bill Hicks legend and fan base grew. And as the fan base grew, so did the quest for the lost Letterman segment. All those jokes are on his albums in some capacity, but there was something about seeing/hearing this lost segment.

One could argue it was a Bill Hicks fan’s holy grail… but that’s a bit hyperbolic.

Right?

Found footage of Hicks made its way onto the various new media platforms, books were written, and documentaries, authorized and otherwise, were made; but that lost Letterman segment from 1993 remained missing.

Fun fact: In a true sign that Hicks had posthumously made it here in America, nutjob conspiracy theorists posited that media knucklehead and halfwit Alex Jones was Bill Hicks in disguise.

This shouldn't need to be said... and yet... Bill Hicks is not Alex Jones.

In 2008, David Letterman invited Bill’s mother, Mary Hicks, onto his show for a mea culpa and to air this long-lost segment.

On this episode of Abandoned Albums, we’ve pulled a bunch of audio from around the internet and put together a far-from-definitive story about Bill Hicks.

We touch on the two albums released in 1997, three years after Hicks had passed away from pancreatic cancer, Arizona Bay and Rant in E-minor. But the truth is that this episode about Bill Hicks is told by those who knew him. And the story is told against the backdrop of the Letterman story.

Only a handful knew that Bill Hicks would die four months after that October taping.

David Letterman was not one of them.

It's not a contradiction. To be a Quaker or in the Society of Friends is to embrace some form of Christianity, though you don't have to embrace a very specific, dogmatic set of exact rules that tell you what it is to be a Christian. This an essential aspect of the religion, to focus promarily on God reaching you directly. If for example you don't believe the historical Jesus was the son of God and thus immortal and physically rose to heaven, that's OK. It's not what makes your connection with God. It’s not uncommon for Friends who believe with all their heart that Jesus was the Son of God to worship side by side with Friends who aren’t so sure… or who don’t even think it matters much one way or the other. Friends thereby remove obstacles to one's faith in Christianity, while keeping the basic principles of Christ's teachings.

For example, do you really believe the Earth is only a few thousand years old? If a Christian doesn't believe that, and believes instead in science, they are still very much Christian. Christianity is about one's relationship to God, with the help of Christ's teachings. You don't have to believe that he walked on water in order to believe in your contact with God and your approaches to Christ's teachings. That's not a contradiction. It's a contradiction to assume that your relationship with God cannot develop unless you believe that all stories in the Bible are factual. Christianity is a faith that should bring you closer to God, not dictate to you that an ancient book's stories must be believed before you can have a connection with God. The latter is fraud.

Jesus emphasized two core commandments: love God with all your being and love your neighbor as yourself. He also discussed five of the ten Commandments (Luke 18:20). Here are some of the requests of Christ: https://iblp.org/what-are-commands-christ . None of that is about the Great Flood, walking on water, physically rising to Heaven after death, Revelations, &c.

He also said: “Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

It would be a contradiction for a Christian to focus on anything other than their relationship with God and Christ's teachings. Moreover, it would also be a contradiction for a Friend/Quaker not to welcome into worship those who also believe that every story in the Bible is factual.

You have to consider the significance of 'faith' in Christianity. It's the most important part. If you're focused on anything other than your relationship with God and Christ's teachings in general, then your faith would be in something that's unrelated to the core commandments of Christianity.

Read:

Despite this underwhelming performance, the House Republican budget resolution assumes that enacting $4.5 trillion in new or extended tax cuts will produce enough additional economic growth to generate an extra $2.6 trillion in revenue through 2035, partially offsetting the cost of the tax cuts. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget has derided this claim as “fantasy math,” noting that it is many times greater than even the most optimistic independent estimate.

It's absolutely ridiculous to compare early 20th century Academy exam work with Alfred Hrdlicka's earliest works c. 1952. It was a completely different world in communist Czechoslovakia, a consequence of Nazi assholes. Also, Hrdlicka was especially a sculptor and his early drawings are impressive.

It's also ridiculous to compare Hitler's 1907 and 1908 portfolios with Scheile's early portfolio of drawings: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egon_Schiele#/media/File:Egon_Schiele_-_Selbstportr%C3%A4t_-_1906.jpg

And if you want to look at Hitler's early work, might as well select this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintings_by_Adolf_Hitler#/media/File:Adolf_Hitler_-_Haus_mit_weissem_Zaun.jpg, or this very basic painting of 1913: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintings_by_Adolf_Hitler#/media/File:Adolf_Hitler_-_Mary_with_Jesus_(1913).jpg

Yes indeed. Anyone who has been reading about the political class in Russia during the past few decades, or indeed about Russian history, should know that it's dumb to view their invasions and bellicosity through an American lens.

I don't refer to Russians in general, but to the political class, as JD Vance's cousin calls them, or to the Kremlin, as /u/neolib reminds me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iaBpU8FnlU It's unfair to call Russia a petrol station run by a mafia, but that comment often comes to mind when thinking about the Kremlin.

I cannot imagine Putin giving up in peace talks territories already taken in Ukraine. Thanks to Trump's recent actions, he's helped Russia re-take Kursk, an important barganing chip in potential negotiations. He's of course weakened Ukraine's position, and that of NATO significantly. One person did that (for Putin), with the support of Republicans. It's corrupt, anti-American, and treason, to destroy so much of the US's investments in recent weeks, at home and abroad.

Thanks for the links. I'll have a look.

A friend sometimes sends me links to articles in The Skeptic, but those aren't as bad as what you describe above: https://www.skeptic.com/articles Still, it seems there is a subversive intent with some of these "skeptical" approaches, as one consistent factor is the refusal to understand the available research, scholarship, science, or statistics. The other consistent factor seems to be that those who insist on their claims about conspiracy theories (including flat earth ideas), such as these, often appear to consider this much more than a hobby, but rather an important part of their identities. It seems they use these conspiracy theories as tools for their own 'self-actualization', that they are better than others because they've joined a group that's supposedly more informed than 95% of the world (or whatever percentage). This special group is often poorly educated, or some of them are college educated, but are less familiar with the facts than they are with the conspiracies. Of course I don't know much about these gullible people, but I am really worried about the massive spread of misinformation by heavily-funded groups, influencers, social media, and misinformation 'news' media &c.

Republican disinformation is often in the form of admitting what Republicans are.

Republicans have attacked and defunded education in the US consistently for the past 45 years. It's worked for them and we're seeing the results of this 'retarded' approach to electing grifters who will give $4.5 trillion to themselves, while cutting medicaid, social security, education, the EPA, FDA, school lunches, &c. DOGE has cut only £11 billion, if that, and Republicans argue that this is necessary for $4.5 trillion tax cuts for the .1%. Meanwhile, the 99% will now have to struggle through an unnecessary trade war recession (though Repugs inherited a strong, healthy economy. What Republicans are doing to the US is obviously stupid and evil, by any standard of assessment.

Beeley has been severely attacked and censored by the corrupt Zionest network, because she's one of the best, most informed journalists covering Israel's attrocities. Indeed Israel has targeted and murdered hundreds of journalists in recent decades, specifically for their coverage of Israel's war crimes. Few people will want to sit through her excellent interview here, but can read more about the main points here:

https://x.com/VanessaBeeley

It's all factual - as we've seen Israel focus on the destabilization of Syria since the 1960s, and again of course when Russian troops left Syria, destroying military properties, controlling a southern section of Syria, and funding groups that will help destabilize the country. Traditionally Syria has been one of the most powerful countries in the M.E., but we can see how Israel (with US support) has been in the process of destroying the country and its ethnic groups.

Greenland’s Democrat party 'which told US president Donald Trump that the country was “not for sale”, has emerged victorious in the country’s parliamentary elections.'

'Greenland has voted for a complete overhaul of its government in a shock result in which the Democrat party more than tripled its seats after a dramatic election campaign fought against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s threats to acquire the Arctic island.'

Before the election, the PM said, 'We don’t want to be Danes or Americans”, Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede.... He wants his country to be independent and plans to hold a referendum.'

TLDR: Trump's threats have resulted in Greenland's destabilization and attempts, by all parties (former leadership, current Democrat leadership, and the dumbass Naleraq party) to gain independence from Denmark, which obviously would weaken it's relations with Europe. Putin is very happy about this. And this vote confirms that Greenland politicians don't want Denmark or the US to influence their country.

2) When NASA funding was cut, NASA was no longer able to afford the usual missions, and the US lost significantly.

3) Instead of funding NASA and thereby supporting Americans, corrupt assholes in government began funding SpaceX (because of bribes to politicians?), a private company that will profit from that money and the American people will see absolutely no benefits from the loss of that money.

4) TLDR: invest in America, Americans and NASA, OR give Americans' money to Musk, so that he can be richer and Americans will merely lose that money? Which option is malevolent?

Obviously when NASA is NOT funded appropriately, it cannot function appropriately. Whereas $20.7 billion in contracts that could have helped NASA are instead going to SpaceX, which makes rockets that regularly EXPLODE. You want astronauts to get into those POS SpaceX rockets that will explode on entry?

Really dumb.

The U.S. government contributed almost $13 billion to the United Nations in fiscal year 2023, and allocated approximately $200 million in 2024 to organizations operating in the West Bank and Gaza.

Compare that with $20.7 billion in contracts with SpaceX, which has a habit of exploding its expensive rockets, while NASA could make better use of that money.

Compare that also with $4.5 trillion in handouts to the .1%, which are not funded, will be borrowed from China, which will cost each American 1000s of dollars, and will NEVER trickle down, as we've seen since the Reagan era and all of the tax cuts in between.

Compare that also with the $1.3 trillion the US spends on the military and veterans.

Compare that also with $billions in subsides to Oil Companies and BigPharma.

While the .1% take as much as they can from important government departments, and the DOE, and Medicare, and Social Security, merely to fatten their bank accounts, the US standard of living will drop to one of the worst in the so-called 1st world. It's been part of the Heritage Foundation's plans for decades, and is now part of Project 2025.

Bad man Elon!

If you insist.

Give back the money paid to SpaceX.

Pretty please.

It was so much better when, until Elon Musk showed up, the USA wasn't capable to send men even to low earth orbit.

FALSE. Corporate groups and special interest groups bribed Republicans (and a few Dems) to take money from NASA and give that money - in several forms, like tax breaks, grants to companies &c - to the wealthiest assholes.

The USA can again start begging the Russians for rides, to get someone on the ISS, on their rockets .

That was not necessary when NASA was appropriately funded.

:/

Indeed

Would be a great time for the US budget to return the rest of the $20.7 billion in contracts with SpaceX back to NASA, for many reasons. The US has already GIVEN this PRIVATE company $8.7 billion, of the promised $20.7 billion, whereas NASA would make much better use of that tax payer money for Americans.

1) If the US can cancel any treaty or any military alliance merely because a Russian agent is president, then the US is isolated. I don't want to explain what happens when a nation is geopolitically isiolated.

2) It's because of NATO that there hasn't been military conflict in Europe most of the past 80 years.

3) Again, the EU should not be conflated with NATO.

4) The US used NATO for the Iraq War (which MOSSAD started), and US troops were thereby gifted meat-shields from NATO countries, and hundreds of Ukraine soldiers also helped with that war. The US and Israel used a lie about WMD to draw the US and NATO into an unnecessary, stupid and extremely costly war.

5) This is a standard understanding of NATO.

Cutting the DOE is obviously a plan to continue the US downward trend to have more than the current 20% illiterate and more than the current 54% with only a 6th grade reading comprehension. The DOE is obviously essential to the future of the US, along with additional investment in education, but not if you want voters to understand how grifters are robbing the US government in order to give themselves $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, which will however be borrowed from China (the only country interested in US T bills).

What Does First United American Companies Stand For?

Isn't it strange how little meaning there is in that name?

First United American Companies is a thought-terminating cliche. It is a name designed to stifle critical thinking about the company and its goals.

The unfortunate truth - the truth they don't want you to know - is that Alex Jones and the InfoWars operation is now completely compromised by the forces he once claimed to wage war against.

Alex Jones is both a media elite and a globalist. He has repeatedly relied on shadowy, well-funded associates to keep him afloat and bail him out when times got tough. Do you think these people did not require a degree of editorial control in exchange for their generosity?

Do you know who runs First United American Companies? Do you think a shadowy, faceless corporation supports the fearless journalism InfoWars claims to broadcast?

Alex Jones is very talented at telling stories that inspire fear in the listener. That skill could be a valuable asset for a company with an interest in motivating audiences while blinding them to important details.

Infowars is not independent media and it hasn't been for a long time now. He lavishes unquestioning praise on powerful people and institutions in exchange for proximity to money and power. The headlines he uses and misuses in his transmissions advance ideas and framings that come directly from billionaires and their stooges on Madison Avenue.

His goal is to distract normal people in every city, state, town, and county in our nation from the real, dire problems that face us every day. He wants to divide us so we don't challenge the status quo that serves him and his moneyed backers. Break the Chains

Free yourself.

Resign Alex Jones to the dustbin of history.

These are war crimes. Only from a position of strengh can anyone deal with the political class in Russia.

This just isn't factual. It's much like the usual Russian disinformaiton. For example:

But everything NATO nations are doing to themselves are making themselves weaker

False - NATO's support of Ukraine has weakened Russia's advance (esp. before Trump's 2nd presidency).

money printing

NATO doesn't print money.

mass migration

NATO is unrelated to migration across NATO countries. NATO stands for 'North Atlantic Treaty Organization'. It is a military alliance of 30 countries in Europe and North America. Its headquarters is in Brussels.

irresponsible foreign aid

Also false. Russia has had an old habit of invading numerous countries, and in recent years has focused on invading former USSR territories. Supporting Ukraine is absolutely crucial at this time, for all of Europe and for the US.

NATO and the EU have no unity

Also false, for obvious reasons. Notice how the EU and Europe were much more supportive of Ukraine after Trump's recent support for Putin. The US is embarrassed internationally. Trump is the first US president to surrender to an enemy while abandoning allies.

except for their own rapid, illogical downfalls.

False - there are no downfalls.

No NATO country has any distinctiveness left except for the Muslim lamprey eels hanging off them.

Obviously false, and just as ridiculous as the other Russian disinformation here.

Americans on the ground

Are there Americans who are not on the ground? Perhaps there is an astronaut who is not tired of the Cold War?

are sick and tired of the Cold War and worrying about whatever threat Russia possesses and it was a mistake on NATO's part to extend it's influence so it could put short-range missiles into Moscow.

None of this is true. Since 1945 it's been possible for several countries to bomb Moscow to smithereens. Nothing's changed.

Nobody in the whole world wants the conflict to go on any more except for the people making money off it—Zelenskyy+EU/Dem politicians and the weapons guys—Everybody else wants peace.

Also entirely false. Russians have proven 25+ times when they violated ceasefire agreements (since 2014) that they've never had any intention to leave Ukraine. The only way Russia will leave is when they are convinced they realize they are against a stronger group of allies who will reduce invading Russian forces to ashes if necessary. There is no other scenario that will work, as we've known for hundreds of years.

Also of it weren't for Russia, the world might be paying attention to the real villains in this story.

This is the worst lie of all of them. It's literally the opposite of what's happening.

But every single word of what you've written has been blasted through the Russian disinformation propaganda firehose of falsehood in recent years, and none of it is accurate.

First, I don't think this is evidence you are thinking for yourself, as it's exactly what we've been reading from the disinformation propaganda on many right wing websites.

Second, there is no Cold War anthem. The NATO mission is rather simple: unity and strength are methods for keeping the peace. That's worked since 1945. Now Putin and Trump are trying to weaken NATO and the US relationships with its allies, with refusals to honor the protection guarantees of 1994 and with the many tariffs on other countries. You can think for yourself why Putin has wanted this for decades and why Trump is working for Putin rather than the American People.

Third, did NATO or anyone else provoke Russia? No.

Fourth, did Gorbachev tear down the Iron Curton? No. (The history of reasons for USSR's collapse is widely available.)

Fifth, there was a disarmament agreement in 1994, where the third largest nuclear power in the world gave up its nuclear weapons while the US and Russia guaranteed Ukraine security in the future. Why is the US violating that treaty? The opinion of one person? Trump? Putin? Do Americans want to violate that treaty?

(Those are rhetorical questions.) As for your ad hominem, please do think for yourself, or remain the human equivalent of a participation award.
