Get called into HR for badmouthing a coworker after she turned him down. That's just fairness, but of course they see it only as loss.

Women are under attack. This is a hostile backlash affecting all women and it's deployed in insidious, often technological ways. Right now, as so many of us are focused on COVID-19, unemployment, the election, BLM, it's the perfect time to erase our rights because the media barely acknowledges it.

There's so little awareness of this happening to women as a class. Few people would discuss your friend's persecution as a strategy men use against women to punish, shame and control them; they'd see it as an individual issue and somehow blame her for it. Women ask to retain single-sex spaces and we're hateful bigots; men torment a woman with non-consenting public nudes and people shrug it off.

Many bisexuals I know (including myself) are willing to date trans people. So why pressure gays and lesbians? by dandeliondynasty in GenderCritical

[–]Veneficca 43 insightful - 1 fun43 insightful - 0 fun44 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm bisexual. Trans people have pursued me thinking I'm a lesbian (I had a high-profile LTR with a woman) and then are disappointed when they find out I'm bi - it's not as validating. Others have told me angrily that I have no reason for turning them down since I'm bisexual.

I really dislike the idea that bisexuals are the natural sex partners for TIM. I like men and women, but why would that mean I'm attracted to a man in bad makeup who's grown small breasts and has a dick that can't get hard? Nothing about that is what turns me on in men or women.

I've also met so many trans whose bizarre ideas of being a man (transmen condescending to me as the little woman) or lesbian (transwomen thinking 2 women together are a giddy romance of bubble baths and lingerie) tell me they could never be a viable partner. I think in general, trans people tend to bring a lot of issues to the table that make them unattractive to people. Those I know in solid relationships are with partners they had before transitioning.

[–]Veneficca 32 insightful - 1 fun32 insightful - 0 fun33 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Even women who normally scoff at feminism understand quite well that they could be/have been raped because they're female.

This shit is a toxic tsunami but you know what? It's showing Western women everywhere just how tenuous their "freedom" is and how many people would like to see us permanently silenced and subjugated. This is chilling, yes, but it's only revealing what's always been there. Now, instead of women thinking their experiences are individual and their husband/boss/rapist was just a bad egg, women are realizing this is class-based, not their fault and something they can fight through female solidarity.

I'm having an optimistic day, I guess.

When I read Mumsnet, I notice women are much more forthright in saying what they think - compared to a typical American lefty commenter section, where women craft sentences with visible effort not to offend anyone or get called out. There tend to be more opening apologies like "I realize I'm just a white cis privileged nobody, and please don't hate me, but just possibly I've noticed..." The difference fascinates me. Their threads are quite bold and refreshing.

There's plenty of space for women on the Left! Our role is to show up at marches, insist that lefty sexual harassers are innocent, always vote for even misogynist Democrat candidates, and keep smiling no matter how casually the Left tosses reproductive rights in the ditch and erases sex-based rights.

The Left thinks they can shit on us because where else will we go? TBH, I now get how certain fiscal conservatives have felt watching the Right be taken over by evangelists - but the difference is, Republicans use the religious insanity to attract votes while still running their swindle game behind the scenes. Democrat leaders are actually drinking the koolaid and looking to implement policy.

Good grief, they love their persecution complex! Woman offers compassion and understanding as she pleads to be allowed to state facts, she repeatedly rolls out the welcome mat for NBs and trans, and they STILL accuse her of "hateful bigotry" and "TERF invasions" and being made to feel "unsafe."

There's no pleasing them. Scolding and purging women is the point. If there's one thing TRA has taught me, it's how excited men get by punishing women. I always wondered why men put so much effort into the witch trials of yore - women were already subjugated, why not rest easy? Why make all the effort to humiliate, torture and kill so many women? The answer is they enjoy it. It's a hobby for some, a vocation for others. They can't feel dominant without actively invading and terrorizing women's spaces. They need our suffering and defeat to feel alive.

Cancel Culture VS. Ellen by Anon123 in GenderCritical

[–]Veneficca 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The Ellen stories remind me of how I've seen female executives treated over the years. There are always stories about them being snobby or cold or demanding, while truly terrible male executives are accepted until they get physically abusive. Exalted men are expected to be brusque, give commands, ignore low-level staff, maintain alliances with powerful men of dubious integrity as part of "playing the game." But high-achieving women must constantly demonstrate humility and deference to prove they don't feel superior to others.

To me, the question isn't "is Ellen rude? flawed?" but "is Ellen behaving more rudely than other male celebrities?" I virtually never hear about famous men being "mean" and "staff are told to never look them in the eye" and that kind of thing, only sexual harassment/abuse stories are circulated. Yet most of the male celebrities I've met act like gods and everyone scrambles to take care of their needs with jaw-dropping subservience. So whenever I hear that a female politician, actor or celebrity is arrogant.... Maybe they are but I'll start giving a shit when people hold male celebrities to the same standard.

[–]Veneficca 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes and I think it was inevitable. Feminism taught women to raise their standards while many men still subscribe to male supremacism. Our expectations - hers for equality and respect, his for submission - were always going to end in a car crash. Men grow up seeing movies where they're the hero and the pretty girl is the prize. Their fathers and grandfathers were CEOs, senators, chiefs of staff while the only woman in the room was the secretary. Now they're adults and their female peers are out-achieving them, they may have to answer to a female boss, and they have to make themselves attractive to get a partner - because women don't need them for economic survival anymore.

No surprise that they show a growing bitterness and hostility toward women. Men feel cheated. Internet culture has allowed them to marinate in misogynist myths and porn has given them even more unrealistic expectations. They can never say "I'm wrong" so they double down on blaming women when their strategies fail. I have male relatives in their 20s who live in a fantasy world (all women have to do is complain about being complimented and a man will lose his job; all women are gold-diggers who use men for expensive dinners and stealing their husband's assets in divorce court, etc) and they simply will not listen to facts, statistics or the real people/situations around them. Their fantasy world is too attractive to their egos.

I don't know the solution. It's going to get worse before it gets better. This will change only when men realize it's hurting themselves - they don't care if something hurts women.

It's obvious from the comments that most people haven't read JKR's real words about this. Lots of "cishet" people on there performing wokeness and making it clear they've done zero research or given any critical thought to the topic.

Now that I know how Alison feels about this, I'm wondering if she has ever deliberately ignored questions about difficult trans employees/bosses that she's received. There are plenty of contentious issues in the workplace, like Tom from accounting suddenly hanging out in the employee fitness center women's locker room, or companies changing their stats on female leadership after 2 executives transition, or people being told to put their pronouns in their email signature. I'm guessing she would either ignore those questions or pretend not to see the problem. However, I do think she was sensible with the TIM who was peeved about seeing a coworker's menstrual products in her own car - if that was her column that tackled it.

Almost all of them had girlfriends when they transitioned. Suddenly they were "Kyle" or "Jacob" or whoever, and growing facial hair, but they'd still come to every lesbian event and try to claim both identities. It was very weird.

Why are they so obsessed with being anime characters? Entire comment thread so far is transbians by [deleted] in GenderCritical

They HATE "terfs and Karens" in part because mothers are often the first line of defense in protecting their children from pedos and weirdos.

Excellent insight.

How stupid is the comment saying we don't understand how a TIM dick is different from a normal dick? STILL A DICK. Not a vagina.

And then they have the temerity to say we don't know much about trans bodies. Nah, we know the truth, unlike the "doctors can't even tell!" BS that gets propagated. It's them who don't know anything about women's bodies and women's desire. No wonder so many failed at dating as straight men.

This seems like a PUA handbook in its "I'm just like you miserable bastards, but I found a way out" message, transgender version. Pure propaganda. There's no way this guy got this far into his transition and still presents such a sugar-coated version. It's a fantasy where all women are dumb and living the easy life, he's having supersonic orgasms and he's now in the lesbian dating pool. Don't these fucknuts realize women pick up on their misogyny no matter how they're presenting?

Yeah, I have zero problem with what people wear and welcome men in dresses. However, I used to write materials for funeral home clients and they repeatedly stressed that the materials had to be super bland and basic - because grieving people need simplicity as their reading comprehension is typically lower than normal. They can be dazed, in shock, overwhelmed with emotion, unable to make simple choices, and can shut down at the first sign of contention (a family fight or old feud) or any kind of controversy. And they don't want older relatives or children asking loud questions or causing disruption. So funeral home staff tend to master this kind of low-key, gentle assistance where they dress conservatively and speak in low voices. It's the last place for drama and confusion or redirecting attention to a staff member. A reasonable person would grasp that and save "Aimee time" for after hours.

learn from the experience they have just had

You make it sound like GC deserved to be kicked off Reddit. We followed their rules, the mods were exceptional in deleting dehumanizing content, and still got banned. Sounds like the only lesson to be learned is that men will try to silence women no matter what - not "be nicer to men."

This is my main issue as a bi woman. You don't want to date me? Fine. What happens more often though: a lesbian will date me but imply I'm second-class or damaged goods, or she'll refer to bi women as men's sloppy seconds. Thankfully, I see way less of this than I did when I came out as a teenager.

Are bi people esp. at risk (health, etc.)? by PenseePansy in LGBDropTheT

[–]Veneficca 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm bi. One thing I've noticed in my life (socially, in recovery and as a counselor) are people who've experienced hard lives and sexual trauma often have their boundaries eroded to nil. They've been numbed out of touch with their genuine desires and many have wound up doing sex work. Many people I've known like this say they are bi because they've had to sleep with same sex partners in their line of work, or they've done so in prison, or for drugs, or they just don't know how to say no to people.

But would they be straight or gay otherwise, if they'd grown up in a safe and healthy environment? I'm guessing some would. I'm not say this describes most bisexuals, I'm bi and know many healthy bi people. But I do think that trauma and mental illness push a certain population into habits and environments where they are pressured to convince themselves they are bi. Like a woman I know who would never seek a woman on her own, but has had 2 boyfriends who insist on her participating in threesomes and swinging and she goes along with it (without liking it) because she has numerous mental health issues and lets men walk all over her.

[–]Veneficca 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I know a lot of conservative women like this. It's frustrating because so many of them seem to want the benefits of feminism AND the benefits of benevolent sexism and are never willing to challenge men or examine their own patriarchal complicity. They're happy to point out misogyny when another nation, religion or political party can be blamed, but when it's coming from inside the house? They almost always stay quiet. They want safety, respect and equal pay without the conflict of naming their own men as part of the problem.

That said, I also know women who feel judged about not being "pure" enough for feminism. To them, feminism isn't a place of support and positive change, it's a tribunal that will castigate them for wearing makeup, liking the wrong musicians and films, wanting to be a SAHM, etc. Or they read about sex-positive feminism and recoil because they don't see prostitution, porn or casual sex as good for women. I think a lot of women aren't even sure what a feminist platform is these days.

I only know a few of them now. Inevitably, that circle splintered as they kept coming to LGB events while insisting they were men, not lesbians, and their lesbian partners were told to call themselves bi or straight - it was a hot fucking mess.

But I know one has detransitioned, one seems to be doing so without calling it that, and one is still with her original GF and "living as a man."

I read Martine's book "Digital Immortality" a few years ago before I knew who he was. My jaw dropped multiple times at his bizarre logic gaps and his clear inability to consider other people's rights and boundaries. No interest in privacy at all - he seemed to view people as raw material he could use to try out his theories. Very frightening individual.

Men have plenty of forums to enter conversations with women. Why can't we have one that's just for women? Why must men insert themselves into every single women's space?

I think it was fine the way it was before - men could post and comment and they did. But they were encouraged to go to GC Men or the GC Debate sub. Maybe what we really need is a specifically radfem GC sub and then a general GC sub for everyone. I recognize that lots of people are obsessed with this topic who aren't on board with radfem politics.

I don't have children, but I have never been able to go for days without reminders that I'm female. Whether it's ovarian cysts hurting me or men harassing me in the street or watching mediocre male colleagues get accolades and attention while exceptional female colleagues get ignored or people assuming I'm a subordinate or the constant comments about my looks - it's always there. Couldn't escape it if I tried.

However, I do think you're right about privilege being a factor. I see this in friends who have media/academic jobs where they're surrounded by people with all the "right" views and they don't know a single person in prison or who's stayed in a women's shelter. The repercussions of trans activism are vague and distant to them. A lot of women's issues are.

You could start a sub that is more about general trans lobby criticism? It seems like there is a massive wave of people dying to discuss this and ally together, and I'm all for that. You might even get censored/hassled less if it's seen as a general population sub and not a women's sub. I would definitely post there. But at the same time, women need a place of our own.

Funny how it's okay, even applauded, to complain about white woman calling the police on black men - but it is NEVER acceptable to mention real incidents of black men harming women. Instead we have to pretend white women live in a safe and fancy privilege bubble that only "cishet white men" can penetrate.
