There's also a sense of entitlement. I've know people who could afford to buy films, yet decided instead they'd simply torrent everything. Two friends would have incredible libraries of films, watching several films each week. The thing is, removing piracy wouldn't have turned them into paying customers. Take away their access to this free entertainment and the best case would see them buying a tiny number of films - entirely disproportionate to the supposed losses from piracy. More likely the bulk of the free time will go into something else.

If intelligence is so important for wealth and power why haven't humans evolved to be 150 iq brain geniuses? by yabbit in AskSaidIt

[–]Trajan 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Evolutionary processes don't care about wealth and power. The most intelligent people aren't exactly known for being prolific baby makers. So while the 150 IQ couple run an empire, win chess tournaments, and euphorically post at /r/atheism, people of average intelligence are doing things more likely to lead to babies.

For adaptations to spread there must be pressures for it, and there does tend to be trade offs. Certainly we could see those pressures ramp up as societies become more reliant on knowledge and intelligence.

This is to freeze only those very few accounts used to raise money for the illegal activity of using trucks to stop traffic, and to thereby keep businesses open.

No, this is broader than targeting the accounts used for fundraising. Specifically, the Deputy Prime Minister said that people whose vehicles are used in the protests will have their bank accounts frozen and their insurance cancelled. While what you said isn't wrong, it could be interpreted as applying only to fundraisers. In her statement she refers to corporate accounts suggesting that they aren't going after personal accounts, although I imagine that could change if donations are seen to be routed via personal accounts.

Sure, it could very well be illegal what the protestors are doing. Protest often involves breaking the law and the risk of arrest. The actions of the government may be entirely legal, just like it was at the time legal for William Prynne to be branded on his face. Just not a good look for a government.

I can't believe they thought this would fly. For it too work they'd assume a majority would bother with chargebacks and would not consider legal remedies. That's insane.

More likely they'd see a flood of chargebacks and legal action. Chargebacks would cost a fortune due to the fees card companies levy on merchants. They'd also risk being penalised if their ratio if chargebacks to charges goes above a certain amount.

If their legal team didn't ring alarm bells, their finance people would have explained the utter lunacy of encouraging tens of thousands of customers to request chargebacks from the company.

They know women are their greatest barrier to being accepted as true and honest ladies. Demanding men accept them as women is a non-starter as most men are straight, gay men having little interest. To men to sleep with them has problematic implications, as has been pointed out when they attempt this coercion. Lesbians are equally unenthusiastic.

They can more easily argue to be able to swing their dicks in toilets and changing rooms reserved for ladies. Although even that isn't going well hence the fiery hatred for women.

I'm unfamiliar with the rules of baseball so I can only speak for cricket. I believe the following would cover it:

wilfully mistreating any part of the cricket ground, equipment or implements used in the match

A warning would be issued. Sticking the bat up your arse a second time would result in five penalty runs being awarded.

She's only 31, an age at which the body can manage this kind of obesity. Her life is going to be immeasurably more difficult in a decade. There's a reason older fat activists are uncommon.

That's the right way to do it. His race isn't relevant unless it emerges his attack was racially motivated. That the mainstream identitatian media would certainly lead with 'white man...' headlines, were this nutter white, doesn't make it right to do the same in reverse. That's what critical theory commissars want.

Yeah. This guy is has some history: https://thecritic.co.uk/did-the-anti-lockdown-razor-story-really-happen/

Apparently threw away the evidence in this case, for some reason. It makes no sense that he could have cut his hand as he did with a blade stuck flat in the centre of the poster.

Claims to have been disemboweled in an attack, resulting in him carrying his intestines down to the local hospital. Claims to have multiple personalities living inside his head (i.e. head mates). Has a history of self-harming for attention.

In short, we're supposed to believe a serial attention seeking transgender activist with very apparent mental health issues was improbably injured while removing a poster with a razor blade stuck flat on the back in the centre, and he disposed of the evidence?

He comes across as being a less bumbling version of Jeremy Corbyn. The two of them seem happiest when proclaiming the people's revolution, all the while living it up in luxury with their wealthy friends. Corbyn's main flaw is he seems incapable of doing anything, even mundane daily activities, without somehow bumbling into a photo opportunity with a terrorist or somebody who wants to erase the Jews from the face of the planet.

Trump’s vaccine support may cost him victory in 2024 by [deleted] in politics

[–]Trajan 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is comical. Take this example from the Washington Post:

Trump also uses his properties to generate revenue from parties doing business with the government, which could justify a bribery investigation. Recent reporting indicates that lobbyists and foreign government officials pay to get into the Trump International Hotel in Washington and the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida to obtain access to Trump. If the president rewarded those spending money at his hotels and resorts with favorable official decisions in office, he could be criminally liable.

In short, people pay to stay at his properties. This might be criminal if evidence ever emerges that he did political favours for any paid guest. No actual evidence, insinuation as opposed to accusation. It's a thought exercise you're presenting as evidence of criminality..

By the same logic one could suggest Trump is an aeroplane hijacker. He's been onboard aeroplanes on many occasions. He used to bring armed men aboard flights with him. He could be charged if it's found that he hijacked any one of these flights.

No, it's not a straw man. You presented those links in response to a request to explain what Trump did that was illegal. The text I quoted is not describing anything illegal - only suggesting Trump could will have broken the law if he does what the author says he could have done. There's no evidence there and not even an accusation, and that's precisely the same as what I said about the hijacking. You appear to not understand what a criminal act is. The reason I say this is that you describe a conflict of interest as treason. Here's why this is wrong:

  1. Having a conflict of interest is not criminal and is not corruption. All statutes on the matter, in common with basic law in most countries, require actions be committed before charges can apply. Even laws that deal with intent have to establish that an action was intended (e.g. possession with intent to supply, conspiracy to murder). It is not criminal to have an opportunity to commit a crime any more than it's criminal to think about committing a crime. This is where the Washington Post excerpt falls down as they lay out a conflict of interest, yet have to then fantasise about the action that would constitute a criminal act. See https://conflictofinterestblog.com/2012/04/what-makes-a-conflict-of-interest-a-crime.html for a little background on this.

  2. Treason is a very specific charge, not one to be invoked whenever people with apparent mental health challenges are unhappy with somebody.

The British left has long hated the working class for two main reasons:

  1. They tend to be patriotic. This runs counter to the internationalist nature most common to British leftism. This was particularly evident during World War II and during the Cold War.
  2. They declined to rise up, preferring a chance at prosperity and security over mass graves and economic ruin.
