Straight ally here!👋🏽 I lurked a lot in both r/GC and r/lgbdropthet before they got banned. I grew up with lgb friends and neighbors both here in the U.S. and in my native country, and just never thought there was anything “wrong” with them, even though even here in the U.S. homosexuality/bisexuality were deemed “deviant”, “abnormal” etc. (b.t.w. I’m old!😂). In my native country homosexuality is still illegal.

I was a LibFem for a bit and dabbled in the t.w.a.w. nonsense accordingly ... until I actually read some books written by both FtM and MtF writers, and the aggressive, almost violent narcissism on display shook me to the core. And especially MtFs because, well, as a straight woman I can clock a straight man when I see one.🤷🏻‍♀️ And the way they harass lesbians is sickening.

I think it depends on the field, but no you’re not crazy! It’s definitely a legitimate concern that I share too. I’ve read anecdotes about how hiring TiMs to fill the “women’s” quota is a real occurrence in tech fields. I can see that happening in other male dominated science/tech fields too, and I actually get a bit conspiracy/tinfoil-minded that the overwhelming support for trans people (esp. TiMs) in tech companies is because it’s a way to keep natal women out, because TWAW etc.

I don’t know whether it’ll be the case in other fields though, esp. female-dominated ones like teaching, and in fields such as medicine/nursing where I can see TiM and TiF employees being super problematic (a TiM obstetrician? GAAAH!!).

Y’all, go watch Top Gun Maverick‼️ OMG I don’t even remember the last time I was this entertained and exhilarated by a movie! The action/flying scenes are un-freaking-believably good (hardly any CGI)! The cast is really diverse and everyone is awesome too - no “token” minorities, the principal characters all have important and powerful roles, and there’s a woman fighter pilot, aiiieeeeeeee‼️😃👏🏼 She actually takes part in the super-dangerous mission too, instead of staying behind on the ship, or something like that.

It’s appropriate for children aged 10+, no explicit scenes, so parents and guardians can take the kiddos if they’re not too young. There’s some language, but these days nothing they won’t hear on school playgrounds.

I recommend seeing it on IMAX if possible. SO worth it! Honestly, chances are you’ll love it even if you don’t like action films.

And, ahem, lots of eye candy for both sexes.😉 Just like in the first film!
