Yeah, I have no real desire to do a dramatic deletion, let alone announce it. I just find Reddit less and less useful and engaging, so I use it less and less. That's how websites generally die: not of anger, but indifference. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if I still had a MySpace or GeoCities account, but I am so monumentally indifferent that I don't even know or care. We're in the early stages of that for reddit (and youtube, etc), as they transition to niche products serving a very specific audience that is ever dwindling.

I agree with the sentiment, but it's unrealistic to think bad-mouthing Reddit is just going to end. It's similar to a bad breakup for many; users who had spent years maybe even a decade on Reddit saw it go to shit, were most probably badly treated. Naturally, they're going to vent, and take delight in pointing out why Reddit is a poor choice. This will fade over time.

If you're not interested in something, it's a better strategy and less hassle simply not to read it rather than complaining about what people (apparently) do want to talk about.

I'm reasonably confident that it's largely made up of the twitterati, and those who care about their opinions. Unfortunately, that comprises a great number of politicians and CEOs of big tech. I'm pretty sure it's mostly pandering, especially for companies like Amazon.

Yes, Amazon has bent the knee, but I suspect it's at least partially inspired by fear of being targeted. They gave 10 million to essentially terrorists, but that's a drop in the bucket for them. Considering they have 100s of thousands of people driving around alone with valuable items for delivery, if they got targeted by the mob or even a small percentage of them, it would be disastrous.

Not that their paying up will give them immunity, but I'm sure calculations were made about potential liability and losses if they were singled out as a very visible and vulnerable target. If they believe the nonsense they're parroting, its largely irrelevant.

That's higher than the rate for any country: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate#Table

By way of comparison, the number of blacks killed by LEOs in 2019 in the U.S. was 250, of whom 14 were unarmed (https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/systematic-racism-in-policing-its-time-to-stop-the-lying/). Let's just take the total, 250. That's for a population of 47.8 million (https://blackdemographics.com/). This means 0.5 /(year x 100k) per capita number of blacks killed by LEOs. It's 0.03/(year x 100k) for "unarmed" blacks.

Whether something "Matters" is a value judgement, not a provable or disprovable fact. If we were all going to be honest, each of us would say "Few lives matter" since who matters to each of us is a relatively small circle: friends, family, and perhaps favorite celebrities (entertainer/sports star/politician/etc) for some. Really and truly, expressing "personal importance" in saying those outside that circle lives "mattered" is just pandering and virtue signaling, just trying to medal in the caring olympics.

I haven't heard of "amp", but programming standards don't make the internet: protocols do, such as TCP/IP and port assignments (21 ftp, 80 web, etc). Sun didn't "become the internet" when it made Java or Javascript, Microsoft didn't with .net or C sharp, and I doubt google will with their programming standard. Also, google is prone to abandon projects, or all but, even after years of development.

The Mohammedans pretty regularly tried to invade southeast Europe up until ~1600s. I think a great many of the West have forgotten the history with the Mohammedans: they conquered North Africa in the 7th century, formerly Christian land. They conquered and held Spain for nearly 800 years. They tried to invade France but were turned back. They conquered and held Sicily for a few centuries. They regularly tried to conquer Vienna, up until nearly 1700 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Vienna). Mohammedan pirates operated in the Mediterranean taking Europeans as slaves well into the 19th century, with a few even carrying on the tradition into the early 20th century.

Economic withdrawal primarily: pull current investments, minimize income, and eliminate new investments. I call it "Going Galt-lite", and I did it a version of it during the last half of Bush and all of all Obama. I suspect given the crash and slow recovery, it was not an uncommon strategy, but I have no direct data to back that up. Of course, making choices based on ethics are their own reward.

You are implicitly assuming that youtube is a permanent fixture of the internet. While it's no doubt big, right now and for the last few years, that can change on a dime. We've seen it time and time again over the last 30 years.

It's gradual. Even apolitical normies are getting nervous/concerned about the censorship on youtube, what you can and can't say. Those who make their primary living from youtube videos have to realize that if your entire livelihood depends on one arbitrary and capricious company, you are in trouble with less control of your life than an office drone. So, you're seeing more and more people uploading to secondary and tertiary sites. That could be bitchute or, one that follows the patron/subscription model like Floatplane.

These goliaths always seem unstoppable up until the time they collapse. We saw it with AOL, Compuserv, Hotwired, Enron, Myspace, and Pets.com just to name a few off the top of my head.

If the USC didn't require a POTUS to be a living human, the Dems would rather just have a mannequin as the candidate. No awkward gaffes, and it can just resign prior to even getting sworn into office. That way, whatever unelectable lunatic the DNC decides for the VP slot can just assume the office. Probably a trans gay black woman.

We are people of principle: we fight for the government to acknowledge fundamental human rights (FoS, RTBA, etc), not to grant them based on some arbitrary classification of human.

We're talking about pride in white culture, not personal pride. So whether I have or have not gone to the moon is irrelevant. What is relevant is the culture that enabled such a feat, which is European-descended.

India, China, Japan, Egypt, all over asia and the middle east did as much "civilization building" as Europe.

Oh, really? How many men have any of those countries put on the moon? My point was "most advanced civilization" that the world has ever seen. Europe, and their descendants, are responsible for that. As well as harnessing steam power, virtually all major scientific breakthroughs of the last 500 year (Galileo, Newton, Gauss, Maxwell, Gibbs, Boltzman, Einstein, Fermi, Bohr, Feynman, Hawkings, etc), harnessing electricity, harnessing the atom, computers, the internet, etc.

You very well may be right: typically, those of that ilk aren't against censorship in principle, they're just aghast when the same sorts of rules are applied to them by a slightly different mob.

Common European ancestry. We descendants of Europe have a great deal to be proud of, including building the most advanced civilization the world has ever known. The fact that we can communicate as we are right now is tribute to that.

The downside is that you never see the original site and their ad revenue is stolen.

Hmmm, that sounds similar to "deep linking", or using frames to display the content of a web site while cutting off the ads and displaying your own. There was a court case about 15 years ago that addressed that, and made it actionable, possibly even illegal.

Then google starts promoting AMP websites in their rankings.

I have to wonder if they'd get slapped with anti-competitive monopoly practices if they did this. They have north of 90% of search engine market. That's a higher percentage than Microsoft had of the desktop market in the late 90s/early 2000s, and they got hit from DOJ for monopolistic practices particularly in the browser space.

Other states have had buying restrictions for a long time, and they haven't been struck down. The 2A is the one right courts are loathe to protect, for whatever reason. There has been a stark erosion of 2A rights going back to the the NFA in the 30s, and courts have largely upheld them.
