Sure, Heathcliff is occasionally described in the book as "dark" and a "gypsy." Notably, however, these descriptors come from a few Yorkshire natives for whom anything less that alabaster white skin is "exotic." The capacity to achieve a slight tan would make a person "dark" to them. This is not conjecture; see basically the entire cast of Downton Abbey for what I am talking about.
