I addressed your post according to my perception of it. My perception of your writing.

Your perception was wrong. Now that I've corrected your perception, perhaps you could try again.

Who, other than you, expects jurors to be well-versed in law?

I don't, which is why I'm against juries.

I offer:

The jury is the fact-finder, but it is left to "find" facts only from the evidence which is legally admissible.

And they found the facts wrong, in a lot of cases. Regardless, they can still find a guilty person "not guilty" or vice-versa based upon their personal biases. Re-read the part of my post about Nanavati; no one disagreed about the facts, they just didn't think he should be punished because the jurors were the same ethnicity as him and the victim was another ethnicity.

You don’t take disagreement with your writing well, it seems. I foolishly bought into the good faith discussion/pyramid of debate rhetoric of Saidit. Silly me. Good faith is multiple “straw man” accusations from you. Ok. I’m out.

LOL you can't even disprove my "accusations" even though I backed them up pretty well. I even explained what I really meant, yet you refuse to address those points, because you don't have an argument and know you're wrong. Is the Israeli government or CIA paying you per comment? Because it seems like your only goal is to waste my time and de-rail discussions.

I damn near burn bacon before eating it.

Same! :P I literally tell people to burn it; it has to be black. For some reason, I like bitter food, and burnt bacon is sufficiently bitter without being inedible or gross.

Have/had you noticed bacon tasting off with a lot of brands?

I don't eat enough bacon to be able to tell the difference.

I wonder if you would have liked the BBQ pork we got the other day. It had all the fat trimmed, tasted incredibly, well seasoned, smoky(ey?) and even had a fewbits that were crisped slightly.

Sounds nice.

So what? But, Mom, no one else has to wear snow boots! Not a strong argument.

Stop pretending like that was my main argument. I was using it as an introduction; a lot of people might not know jury systems are rare, so that gets their attention, and then I explain why so many countries have chosen not to have them.

But I reject your “uneducated” label, I find that classist.

Again, you're taking my words out of context to build a strawman argument. The first sentence in that section is:

The chances of one juror, let alone the entire jury, being well-educated in the law are next to none.

You can't argue than twelve, random people will be well-verse in the law — it's statistically unlikely to the point of being nearly impossible. But go ahead, try it (without strawman arguments for once).

Most legal cases that even make it to a juried trial aren’t that tough.

How many strawman arguments will you build? I never said juries are wrong most of the time, I just said they're wrong more than a panel of judges would be.

All problems you cite of a jury system can absolutely be retained by shifting to judges panel system

Try to argue why that's the case without using a strawman argument.

You addresses literally zero of my points; all you did was take random quotes out of context — and you didn't even address all my points. Try again; I ain't no crow.

Good piece.

Thanks!

I would like to see a lottery system to find candidates and then let the current election system take over. This would allow people who would accept the responsibility and duty of public office without being stuck with people seeking power.

That would lock out a lot of good candidates, while allowing for the possibility of several, bad candidates that wouldn't really represent the general population very well. It would also be hard to organize any kind of political movement to get popular policies passed.

Now, an idea that I could get behind is randomly selecting a group of people to propose laws to the legislature (that they'd have to vote on; they couldn't just kill it in a committee). It wouldn't be mandatory to serve, but it would give Joe Schmo the opportunity to have his opinion heard without the risk of actually giving him any power.

There are two problems with our democracy:

  1. The electoral system

  2. Money in politics

Favorability voting solved the first one, while Andrew Yang's democracy dollars proposal would solve the second. After implementing these two solutions, I doubt there would be very many problems left to solve, but I would be open to more radical solutions if they fail or don't go far enough.

Why he gets so much attention in the West is beyond me though it's rather dull and uninspired.

They do not believe in heaven or hell, thus no afterlife.

This says they do believe in heaven, but that only 144,000 people get to go there; I remember reading something that says they believe it's already full, though.

Their followers are promised eternal life on Earth (I assume after being brought back to life), while bad people just die and don't go hell.

This is probably what Jews believes before Jesus, although I don't know about the 144,000 number, which honestly sounds like a joke — can God not afford more real estate? Regardless, it's definitely an interesting take.

Personally, I don't believe in hell either, and believe heaven ain't a literal place, but rather a state of being, namely: unity with God. Some similarities, but we don't really agree.

And you only want to censor your political opponents, because you know you can't win an argument, and the only people who agree with you are the six self-described neo-Nazis you've only ever talked to over the Internet.

That's the true motivation behind libertarians.

I would venture to say that people who are called transphobic are being mis-characterized. They are anti-trans. Using the suffix of phobia incorrectly irritates the shit out of me.

Ah, yes, "anti-trans" is the word I was looking for. Seems obvious in hindsight.

There is no rights being violated by having that opinion.

Exactly! What is a human right, however, is freedom of speech — and the woke left wants to take that away. I don't think their goal is as shallow as banning opinions that offend them, but rather to use that as an excuse to normalize censorship and slowly usher in a dictatorship.

First, they ban "hate speech," then they mandate pronouns, then they ban speaking out against abortion, then they ban criticism of the government. Everyone except the elite lose out in the end.

Furthermore I find it strange that people who focus so much on saying that gender is a construct also use that same construct to define themselves. Do you find that to be odd?

Everything about the cultural left is hypocritical and contradictory. They want to destroy traditional gender roles, while simultaneously trying to imitate them.

I'm a lot more conservative than most LGBT folks, so I'm of the opinion that traditional gender roles should largely remain in-tact (obviously, stuff like female genital mutilation should be illegal, and women shouldn't be forced to wear Islamic clothing, but western culture doesn't have these flaws).

If one defines gender as the way society expects men and women to dress and act: then perhaps it could be considered a social construct, but the reason leftists use such language is in order to justify its deconstruction — even though traditional gender roles benefit society, overall.

I'm a descriptivist, which means I don't prescribe how words are to be used, I simply describe how they are used; this same logic applies to gender, as I'll consider someone to be masculine or feminine depending not upon how they label themself, but rather upon how well they fit into the traditional categories.

In regards to sex, it's solely a biological label; someone is male if they have male anatomy, and female if they have female anatomy. Again, I describe people based not upon how they label themself, but upon how well they fit into the given categories.

Naturally, I see sexual reassignment surgery as hypocritical, as the whole point of transgenderism is the notion that you don't have to have male or female anatomy to express yourself in a masculine or feminine manner.

Yep, LOL. How could you tell? Was it because I said "ain't"? Statistically, the vast majority of Southerners are Southern Baptists, so it's a safe bet.

Long answer you never asked for:

The earliest I can remember, we attended the First Baptist Church. I went to the Second Baptist Church once (I think one of my mom's friends invited us, but the memory if fuzzy). Despite it's name, I don't believe it was a Black church (again, fuzzy memory). IDK if we have two Southern Baptist churches, or if it's another type of Baptist.

When I was a teenager, we went to a mainline, Methodist church, which was larger and more fancy-looking than the other churches in town, and I know some of the local elites go there.

We got caught up with a cult for a few months, and after that, my mom starting dragging me to a Pentecostal church. Eventually, I just quit going to church all-together. My mom was part of some non-denominational Internet ministry for a few years, but I was disinterested in religion until after I turned eighteen (about a year ago).

"Teaching" is probably an intentionally misleading translation by our (((media))).

True. The Daily Mail is a terrible source and should be taken with as much salt as I put on my black-eyed peas.

Obviously he is talking about propaganda.

I considered that possibility, which is why I didn't want to take a firm stance on what the word meant. I don't speak Russian, so I cant just translate it for myself.

Obviously he is talking about propaganda. They may not be telling kids directly to be trans but they are lying to them about it, painting it as a good thing, and promising a windfall of good things like special treatment and attention if they do become trans.

Like with pronoun mandates, hate speech laws, etc. The elite also tend to fawn over LGBT people and the media has been using "first transgender" whatever to defend Levine from the nursing home scandal in PA (not the same as the one in NY).

The media loves to pretend like blue states are utopias where LGBT people have it easy, while red states are these dystopian hell-holes where queer-folks get shot on sight. It's the same tactics cults use.

Neither of these pictures are true; LGBT folks get attacked in places like New York, and having lived in deep-red Arkansas all my life — in a rural area that voted nearly 80% for Trump — I've never even been yelled at for being trans.

The "trans murder epidemic" is a hoax. Most of the people on the trans day of remembrance list weren't murdered for being trans, and a lot of them weren't even murdered at all! It was debunked by a far-left trans-woman, of all people.

Putting preteens on hormone blockers is possibly the most horrendous thing anyone has ever done, and I do mean worse than genocides and rape.

I've never liked hormone blockers; it's child abuse and literally stunts their growth. You can't even know if you're actually transgender until you've hit puberty. Most kids who think their trans, or would think they're trans if the media got ahold of them, grow out of it before they're an adult.

Even long time rape victims don't have a suicide rate as high as trans kids.

It wouldn't be so high if people would quit bullying them. Now, trans kids need to realize that one guy calling you the wrong pronoun ain't the end of the world, but transphobes (for a lack of a better word) need to realize you can disagree while still being respectful. Most adults can respectfully disagree, but kids struggle with that — especially if their parents don't raise 'em right.

For de-trans kids, that's entirely the fault of a broken system that doesn't know when to put on the brakes and tell them to hold up before they make a decision they might regret. Statistically, most don't, but enough do to warrant regulation — especially since stuff like SRS is permanent. The left calls it "transphobic," but it helps trans-folks in the end.

It is a type of torture akin to PTSD, where the victim blames themselves for horrific things they can't take back.

I basically just said this, but that's why I support age floors for stuff like SRS. Personally, I'll probably never have it, but there's a lot of folks who don't want to either, but end up doing it to get their gender marker changed or out of peer pressure (which is very strong in the "community," which, as I've said before, is a cult).

This guy literally murders his political opponents, locks up journalists, and crushes free speech, so I don't think he's the best person to be talking about crimes against humanity...

There's some truth to what he says when you talk about stuff like sexual reassignment surgery, but just telling a child they can wear a dress or put on make-up is nowhere close to a "crime against humanity". You might disagree, but that choice of words is over-dramatic. Now, the interpretation of the word "teaching" is important, since I do believe it's immoral to indoctrinate children and push them towards a certain out-come.

The left is definitely pushing SRS onto minors. My state of Arkansas passed a law setting a lower limit of eighteen years of age (which I supported), and every, single Democrat voted against it, with the only exception being my State Senator — who's basically the Joe Manchin of Arkansas; our RINO Governor even vetoed it because "government bad."

Is this a good alternative to reddit? by IamCleaver in SaidIt

[–]TheAmeliaMay 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

The issue that I had with reddit are ludicrously complicated posting rules on each subreddit and absolutely ruthless deleting of threads.

Most subs on SaidIt don't even have a list of rules, and most of the ones that do just copy one or more site-wide rules.

3/4 of my threads got deleted for arbitrary reasons.

It's actually against site-wide rules for a moderator to remove your posts unless:

A. it breaks site-wide rules or is off-topic, or

B. the sub has been removed from s/all and clearly lists the rules in its side-bar

You can contact u/d3rr if you think someone has violated this rule. M7 seems to be back (even if he's ignoring me) so maybe you could talk to him too, IDK, I quit being an admin a while back and quit paying attention to who's doing what.

Is this forum good place to start controversial discussions?

Yep! You're allowed to have any kind of opinion you want, so long as you don't promote violence (which people have gotten away with too). I'm pretty sure whatever you want to talk about is allowed.

I sure as hell don't... I was the person who had to remove them everyday for months. Good thing it ain't my problem no more if they decide to show back up.

And I'm not sure if we should trust a user named MisterQ.

Yeah, he's probably making a lot of shit up and embellishing the details for attention, but there might be some merit to what he said.

So an admittedly imperfect system should be able to administer the death penalty?

Ideally, no, but the solution is to just fix the system. We could temporarily suspend it until the system is fixed, but you have to fix it to do that in the first place, so it seems unnecessary.

Like I said in the post: no one in the right mind would suggest legalizing every crime just because the punishments are misused.

Not a Zionist, though; he basically said to pay taxes to Caesar in Mark 12:13-17. For obvious reasons, the Zealots (who were the closest thing to Zionists back then) didn't want to do that. Also, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't approve of Israel's treatment of Palestinians; see Mark 12:31.

To be fair, most non-Jewish Republicans are Zionists who want to give trillions of dollars to Israel because Pat Robertson said there'd be a natural disaster if we didn't (which sounds like satire, but he really did say that, LMAO).

Why do we subsidize the defense of wealthy First World nations that can easily afford it?

I think the US would have a score of 4.2 using this metric, which means only six members of NATO (shown on this map) have a higher number: Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Norway, Finland, Estonia, and Lithuania. Spain, the Netherlands, and Czechia all have a score of half (2.1) or less.

If they expect our support: they should at least have a 4.0. To be honest, we should leave anyways, since the Cold War's been over for decades and Russia already owns Europe with its oil exports, so they really have no reason to invade. Maybe they'll screw up Ukraine, but why should Americans die for Ukraine?

And then they turn around and call us baby killing monsters.

And they're the ones pushing abortion...

Doesn't surprise me; the UK went to shit after they banned guns. This will happen in the US too if the Second Amendment continues to be violated.

The right to keep and bear arms is the only thing that maintains human rights in general, as an unarmed population can be easily oppressed by the government without any way to defend themselves or fight back.

Capitalism already creates artificial inflation to the point where next to no one can survive on the minimum wage, and it ain't like we can't tax the rich for once or privatize money pits like Amtrak.

Capitalism and fiat currency is the reason for inflation, not helping the poor — although I'm sure your daddy told you that as he handed you free money so you'd never have to work a day in your life.

Did you know milk doesn't naturally contain vitamin D? They add it in as a way to try to convince people to buy more of it. Also, most human beings are lactose-intolerant, so it obviously ain't necessary enough to warrant it's own section on the food pyramid. It's also super fatty, so you should really try alternatives unless you want to gain weight.

There are so many crazy conspiracies like this that are true, but no one really talks about.

I never understood the "Feed the Children" foreign aid charity. Why would you want to save a bunch of kids that are going to grow up to be terrorists and kill your children or grandchildren.

I'm against foreign aid because American taxes should go to American citizens — especially when so many of our own are in poverty — but you shouldn't blame the children of terrorists for their parents' crimes. I agree on the policy, but not the sentiment.

In this case do we really need more useless eaters that reproduce indiscriminantly and on the taxpayer's dime.

Calling children "useless eaters" pisses me off, to be honest. Everyone was a child at some point in their life, and all children under a certain age are innocent — or at the very least incapable of understanding their sinful actions — so to say they don't deserve to eat is pure evil. No child should be punished because their parents are too poor or neglectful to give them lunch money! And people like you claim to support family values? What a joke. Fiscal conservative? More like fake Conservative!
