Yep. I don't know if I'm just gifted or something, but I've always found it really easy to spot a man in an online lesbian space.

There was a transbian 'Lastrevio' posting in here a while back. What gave it away is how sympathetic he was towards AGPs.

Then there was a (homophobic but still likes the idea of a FFM poly relationship) guy 'SaidOverRed' who referred to lesbians as the "the ripest apple on the tree" when someone asked why Transbians only go after lesbians instead of straight/bisexual women. Yeah... they always expose themselves.

Lavalanche17 did make a pretty good point. If you think about it, the goldstar stuff is all about men. Categorizing lesbians by past relations to men. I've always found it off-putting to give men that kind of significance in our sexuality. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely all for showing young lesbians that there's nothing wrong with having sexual boundaries, but I'm not sure that this is the way to go about it. It would be simultaneously teaching those young lesbians that men have the power/authority to take something (their "goldstar") away from them and their identity and I hate the idea of giving that kind of importance to men at all, personally. I think we are on different sides of the coin. I don't care at all if a lesbian has been with a man in the past or not. My only hope is that the ones in heterosexual situations can come out and live their truth.

How do you feel about Comp Het? by [deleted] in Lesbians

[–]TalerTest 27 insightful - 1 fun27 insightful - 0 fun28 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

A lesbian is a woman who is exclusively sexually attracted to women. If you fit that description then you are a lesbian. The thing is, I see many bi/straight women who claim that they are lesbians and CompHet forced them to be sexually attracted to men. That's not how it works... CompHet can force a lesbian into situations like getting married to a man, or sleeping with a man or whatever but it's not going to make you feel sexually attracted to them.

And of course, I'll still keep looking over my shoulder for Prince Charming while doing so.'

It's all about men for them. I don't think they even love women, they just hate men.

I'll never understand why it's so important to be a lesbian to so many non-lesbian people. It's just a word to classify women who are exclusively same-sex attracted. There is no "gatekeeping". You either are exclusively attracted to women or you aren't. This "you can identify as anything you want, reality be damned" shit is getting so old. I miss the days when words had meanings.

I'm with you on this. I only want to be with another lesbian. This is not because I have insecurities or fears that a bisexual woman would leave me for a man, which is what everyone thinks these kinds of decisions are about. For me, it's because I want a woman who's on the same wavelength. Bisexual women can understand same-sex attraction but not the lack of attraction to men. All my life I've been told how wrong it is to not experience attraction towards men as a woman, and I want a woman who gets it. Another thing, why is it okay for bisexual women to only seek out lesbians, but lesbians only wanting lesbians is bigoted? Double-standard...

lesbians who consider trans women lesbians will say "TERFS aren't lesbians!!" and lesbians who do not consider trans women lesbians will say "non-radfem lesbians aren't lesbians!!".

What do you mean by this? The people who believe that trans women can be lesbians are usually not lesbians so I can understand saying "you're not a real lesbian" to someone in that case. Like you said, a lesbian is a female homosexual so if a supposed lesbian was trying to tell me that heterosexual men can be lesbians I would be doubtful of her sexuality. Or just think she's high on the kool-aid.

EDIT: oops I didn't mean to respond to you but I'll leave it lol

"My main issues with the document are:

  1. That it is full of misinformation and unresearched theory, including but not exclusive radical feminism and politcal lesbianism.

  2. A lot of that misinformation is bigoted, specifically misogynistic, ableist, biphobic and transphobic

  3. I believe it to be the most malicious in its bi-erasure and, if I'm being perfectly honest, its weird kind of conversion rhetoric."

So she's thinks the CompHet master doc is biphobic and bi-erasure and guilty of preaching conversion rhetoric. I'm a little confused about the conversion therapy part. Does she think that we lesbians want to convince every woman that she's a lesbian or something? Uhh we've been trying to get fetishistic straight women to fuck off for the longest time. We're definitely not out to convert anyone here. And as for "bi-erasure", that's got nothing to do with us. Bisexual women have been erasing themselves forever. When you tell them matter-of-factly that they're bisexual and not lesbians they will gut you.

She doesn't realize that the Master Doc is homophobic.

That is one of the things that sucks about being a minority. We are obviously outnumbered by heterosexuals so it's not like we can do much about it when they try to force themselves into our spaces and force us out. Maybe we just have to wait for them to realize that pretending to be non-straight is sad and pathetic. I wonder if in the future when everyone is non-straight, straight will become the new cool thing.

[–]TalerTest 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

So it seems to largely boil down to the biology of the sexes.

Could you elaborate more on this? I think it's more nurture than nature. Why do you think it's biology?

Edit: I would agree if you meant 'biology' as in physical differences, but I know you're talking about psychology/sociology here.

Women are the ones who give birth to men, but men have the biological advantages of testosterone, including physical strength. So, they grew up to overpower the one's who birthed them. They have had since the dawn of humanity to set up the traditional heterosexual relationship & family model (HRM) wherein the man is the Sun and his family has to orbit him. So, of course men would want to have a wife who has less power than him in the relationship. The Earth can't outshine than the Sun.

Political lesbians are bi/straight women who likely view the world from the Heterosexual Relationship Model. So, they think that by choosing to opt out of sleeping with men or choosing women over men, they are defeating the precept that women exist to live in servitude to men. Sex in the het world has always been seen as part of that servitude. It's something women give, and men get. There are still countries where martial rape is not a crime. I suppose polilez think, with their HRM mindsets, that not sleeping with men or choosing women (who are lesser in the HRM) over men is like the ultimate revenge.

It makes no sense to compare Political lesbians to MGTOW or incels. Their motives are very different. Polilez want to get away from men because of something men did to them. Usually that something is violence or abuse. MGTOW (claim they do but never seem to actually want to) get away because of something women did not give to them. Usually, that something is sex.

''lesbians with an exception'', ''my ex-bf was horrible so I'm a lesbian now''

"bisexual woman who probably calls herself a lesbian to wet the dicks of men who get off on the delusion that they are so sexually potent that they converted a homosexual" - so fetish-ish

"Pitiful woman who thinks that being a lesbian is a choice that one makes as some act of grand emasculation of men or revenge" so Polilez-ish

''my bf goes by Jessica now, so I'm a lesbian''

This just comes back to the HRM where the woman orbits the man. Straight (and bi) women bend over backwards to please men. Could also be the fetish and wanting to appear exotic thing, too.

I acknowledge all the points you made are facts, and we've all seen them happening around us in reality, but I definitely don't think biology (as in, males and females being born with fixed mindsets) has anything to do with how those things have come about to be facts.

I'm aware that I just did what you were talking about, it was meant to be ironic, sorry.

I can see a lesbian saying that she believes that transwomen can be lesbians just so others don't call her a bigot, but a woman who will willingly date a transwomen is not a lesbian by definition. Trans woman + biological woman = heterosexual relationship. In this case it's not about beliefs, it's about facts.

when it comes to rep on-screen though I think strap on sex is not a problem, as long as it is not the only thing shown - not to give the idea that this is all lesbians do

Personally, I don't want to see strap-ons in lesbian movies at all. I don't care what people want to do in their bedrooms, but the rest of the world already thinks that's all we do since the majority of "lesbian" representation comes from porn.

If someone was complaining about the negativity surrounding strap-ons in the lesbian community I'd probably just laugh at them. That's a non-issue. To me, the real issue would be everyone thinking that lesbians are obsessed with phalluses.

I find #8(Hasbian) and #9(LUG) to be a waste of space that could be used to fit other real lesbian types for fun.

Yeah. I don't know why the author even included those. Straight women need to just stay in their lane sometimes. Don't need them acting like lesbian experts

I thought that was a fair comment. She gave OP some sound advice but it was met with hostility. On top of that, OP edited her original comment to add all of that 'woe is me' stuff to make herself look like even more of a victim. I don't know about you but I call that a victim mentality. I also don't like way OP assumes she's the only one who comes from a homophobic background and kept trying to use that as some kind of sympathy card.

Do bisexuals have it harder? by Skipdip in Lesbians

[–]TalerTest 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

My questions were a little facetious. Obviously bisexuals don't need the most help with coming out of the closet. tbh I have controversial opinions when it comes to this. I wish bisexual women would stay in the closet unless they are actually interested in pursuing same-sex relationships. Like bisexual men.

Yeah I'm always looking sideways at the "straight" to "lesbian" stories I read online, but I know several lesbians IRL who came out after decades of playing it straight. Obviously, a lot more people feel safe to come out since it's not such a big deal nowadays (where I live anyway).

But I have met true bisexuals and I don’t relate to them. I lose interest when the topic goes to men.

Girl, you literally just wrote a monologue that was 80% men. I think you will fit in just fine with bisexual women.

Have you ever had a foreign girlfriend? What country was (is) she from? What did you like and dislike about her? Have you ever wanted to date a girl (woman) from another country (let's assume she would be living in your country already)? What country would that be and why? by Ricky_Ticky in Lesbians

[–]TalerTest 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I really don't see what's offensive about it at all. And Ricky_Ticky is also a foreigner where she currently lives (Germany), if I remember correctly so I'm sure she didn't mean it in any kind of offensive way either.

About a month ago someone made a very similar post which was later removed. I think people like this want a sympathy hug-box rather than advice. Speaking from my own experience, it's best to ignore them if you have nothing gooey and sensitive to say.

Can you pick up the energy of another girl who is into you? Are your inklings usually correct even before speaking to her? by [deleted] in Lesbians

[–]TalerTest 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I don't mean to mock, but assuming a strong connection with someone I've never even spoken to sounds a little stalker-ish. I've been intensely drawn to women before but that's all on me. If she keeps looking at me she's probably just thinking why does that woman keep staring at me? so it would be pretty bold to take stolen glances as a sign of romantic interest.

Do bisexuals have it harder? by Skipdip in Lesbians

[–]TalerTest 9 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I think the bisexuals who are only interested in pursuing heterosexual relationships (so, the majority of them) don't need to come out of the closet. Why does everyone need to know that they are attracted to the same sex if they are never going to be with the same sex?

Also, I've noticed a trend of het-partnered bi women swarming into lesbian spaces like locusts so they can talk over/for lesbians and make everything about them and their issues with men or their "comphet" or whatever. Just yesterday I saw a bisexual woman saying that lesbians like penises but not men. I don't know why she thinks she's qualified to make such statements.

many do not want to be in the closet

I know. There's a bisexual celebrity or teenager springing out the closet every 5 minutes. They clearly don't want to be in there.

a girl in the closet who had a secret girlfriend but also is attracted to boys, and her parents are homophobic.

That has nothing to do with her bisexuality and everything to do with homophobia.

Why is female sexuality so easily dismissed? by RedditHatesLesbians in Lesbians

[–]TalerTest 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You said, "I think it has to do more with women's own actions than with misogyny." If you just said "because of women's actions" I don't think I would have even replied to that. You can't separate those types of women's actions from misogyny. If we were not living in a man > woman world, I have no doubt that those women would behave differently.

But none of that affects the claim that women are taken less seriously because of their own actions.

I don't think anyone was disagreeing with this either. The comments I see are disagreeing with those actions not having much to do with misogyny.

Why do you feel a need to take any side? I find that it's much simpler to live without being attached to any political group or movement. That way, you can just express your views individually instead of being automatically associated with ideals that you don't support. Plus, its easy to feel indifferent to all the hate being thrown around when you're just a spectator.

Well I'll go off your first comment

If I'm a lesbian, it was when I started taking "Am I lesbian" quizzes and having fantasies about being with women. And getting turned on by women lately.

You say you are getting turned on by women lately and you're not a teenager. If you've only just discovered that you are attracted to women and previously your attraction has been to men, I'd say you are bisexual.

I don't think anyone here would care if you called them a TERF because we've all accepted that in 2020 being homosexual makes you transphobic by default. I don't know a neutral term for lesbians who believe in biology, but you're not going to be banned for using TERF in a non-derogatory way so don't worry

I agree with you tbh. The lesbians that told OP she doesn't look gay enough were clearly just not interested in femmes. They could have worded it better because we all know there isn't a way to 'look gay', but I think that's essentially what they are saying. "Not interested"

Seems to me it's less about lesbian beauty standards being pushed on everyone and more about personal preferences... and OP taking rejection from other femmes a little too much to heart

I'm really struggling to understand what her definition of lesbian is. At one point she even says, "Also, whilst the label of lesbian can be used by any woman technically, politically and culturally, that does not mean that you can identify with the idea of being attracted (sexually, romantically or otherwise) to women. You are either attracted to other women, or you are not"

Is she saying that anyone can call themselves a lesbian as long as they specify whether it's a political label to them or a sexual one?? Well if that's the case then why does she care if bisexual women want to call themselves lesbians? Doesn't that completely cancel out her entire point?

I don't know why she's trying so hard to complicate things for herself. She's bisexual and she clearly knows that, despite her rambling.

And this person needs therapy/to work on herself and shouldn't be worrying about having sex or relationships of any kind. She sounds like she's carrying around a lot of baggage. People like that should be single.

I wouldn't call it a sense of entitlement. The word assumption is probably more accurate, and it's not exactly wrong or entitled to assume that certain people will vote for democrats, there's also assumptions about who would have/should have voted for Trump. I also don't think Lavalanche17 is deliberately trying to shame or guilt people by stating that she feels disappointed by how others voted. It's just how she feels
