Anyone who believes that is in for a bad time. I never expect people to stop at crosswalks! I've been hit in a crosswalk and so has my brother. In my case they totaled my bicycle and my brother got a broken collarbone. I won't even use them in cities anymore, I always cross in the middle of the block. I'm not putting my life in the hands of literally every random driver on the road, no matter how drunk, tired or retarded they are that day!

Furthermore- its a lot easier for a pedestrian to stop than a car. From a physics standpoint it is a stupid law. But in this case it does appear that the ped slowed and then accelerated his/her pace and timed it perfectly.
