That's the reason why Facebook can access your phone's camera.

But... It came pre-installed

I've watched this guy a couple of times but have gotten turned off by factual errors. In this video:

iOS and Android phones have no file system

Android do, and depending on user privileges you can view parts or all of it through a file browser. They're usually BUILT IN the Android phones.

It's difficult to move documents around that doesn't fit into a specific app framework

You can move documents around the file system, I think he's confusing app intents with file storage.

Then there's the limitations set up by Apple and Google, I'll give you an example

And then he tells how "secure" documents can only be uploaded with intents. The data is in the android folder of the user accessible filesystem, if it's a secure app it's hopefully encrypted by design. This has nothing to do with Google's Android limitations wtf

Android apps are heavily curated and have to follow strict rules set by Google to be allowed on the platform

F-DROID DAMN YOU

Fuck this guy. I made 2:35 / 21:37 but can't deal with it, upsmiled the post becase he's a joke now I'll go cry in a corner

Who is demanding they be included in what space?

SJW's in gaming and programming are the ones that spring to my mind, I bet other people with other interests could give other examples.

To categorically over simplify attempts at inclusivity as an attack and invasion on space is a classic method of generating fear

I'd say generalizing even those with a stated political motive as "just other people like you and me" as an ideological opposite and a classic method of dismissing valid criticism.

We need to unite as humanity, not perpetuate an 'us and/or them' attitude.

Would you consider nazis, islamists and other fanatics part of "your" group?

Plus if you put the arrows together it makes a swastika

Bad news: 'unblockable' web trackers emerge. Good news: Firefox with uBlock Origin can stop it. Chrome, not so much by useless_aether in privacy

[–]SpaceStoner 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Here's the low tech low-down afaiu:

Instead of having ads on truly seperate servers, they are channeled through the main page you're visiting - This makes it impossible to distinguish tracking cookies from content cookies by traditional methods.

Firefox have support for extensions that double-check if the cookie is from the main page or the ad company. Chrome does not. I assume all chromium browsers lack this, i.e. Brave, Opera, Ungoogled Chrome, Iridium etc.

Google goes one further and will stop uBlock Origin (that stops this type of attacks) from working at all on next milestone.

I believe there's a chance reddit built in user-hostile code in their systems before they decided to go closed source, examples could be first or third party tracking buried deep in some subroutine called up by the current page's main code.

It's not usual to audit every line of code when forking an open source project (or at least not in my experience) and thus one gets all the benefits of pre-written code but also all the built in shit.

I know that @magnora7 and @d3rr has made major changes to the code and assume they've removed a lot of the tendrils going back to reddits current or previous systems. But I'm not sure they can guarantee they've 100% removed everything, and I think it's kinda unreasonable to demand it as well.

Edit:

I recommend the saidit android app. Principally it's probably not fully audited either, but I think the goal of the original app maker is different from the goals reddit had just before they closedt the source.

The main reason I use it is the full black mode for my AMOLED screen and better formatting on a small screen, even though saidit's dedicated mobile frontpage is OK too.

Easier to share links both to and from my other apps is nice too.
