Agree. There is something inherently borked with it, yes.

I like how on BitChute there is a tip button and channels can nominate one or more ways that viewers can throw them a dollar if they enjoyed something. I think the value-for-value model is good.

Would be good if YT did something like that.

Yep, the site still needs a lot of work to become a viable contender against YT. Like Dave said in that vid, there are only two people running BitCute - I wasn't aware of that!

Kinda reminds me of SaidIt; slowly growing, little changes and improvements here and there, on its way to great things

I think, based on observation, that the blue bikes were a little more respected than the orange ones. Ross and John are right, people usually have their own bike. If tourists need a bike, maybe the bike shops have an opportunity to expand their offerings to include this. With the free tram area covering most of the CBD, I reckon most tourists are riding that for short trips

Genuine service dogs perform an extremely valuable function for people that really need assistance. I feel, however, that a lot of people are just pushing it so that they can have their "babies" with them. The current culture of victimhood means that these people can't be called out for their selfishness and so the slow creep begins, and they slowly begin to ruin things for people who have a genuine need. I've heard of donkeys, mini horses, and even a peacock.

The opening paragraph is a very good summary of the last couple of years:

In recent years, the increased policing of thought and language and the rise of social justice warriors have managed to bring into question one of the most fundamental tenets of a civilised, progressive society of democracy, and of tolerance. Freedom of speech has been hotly debated in the media and academia following years of ruined careers, bullying teetering on downright harassment and defamation, censored comedians and entertainers, aborted events and de-platformed speakers. We have witnessed countless attempts to criminalise language and what can only be described as social violence against those who dare to utter an opinion contrary to the conventional absolute truths.

"Benioff once said: “Themes are for eighth-grade book reports,” which tells you all you need to know about his dedication to the art of storytelling."

"The two went on to admit that they had absolutely no idea how to work with costume designers (kind of important for a fantasy series), and described their experience making Thrones as “an expensive film school.” "

u/Jesus-Christ u/Newlight This is a great conversation!

My wife (who left the org with me) was baptised at 12. Funny how they absolutely scoff at the Catholics for baptising babies, but think that a 12 year old is a fully developed and cognisant human being that can make decisions that will have lifelong ramifications.

I think most people are grown into it, as in it's probably around their families a lot and it's normalised. I don't think anyone with a different background would be willing to join unless they're absolutely desperate to find meaning and their lost.

Very true, and as I understand it, the numbers have stagnated somewhat in recent years. The numbers being baptised come from the few coming in from the door to door work, but mostly from kids growing up in it.

Those that are vulnerable, poor, single parent, mentally ill, or looking for community etc are prime targets.

She thinks all ex-JWs are losers, and that their information would be biased.

This is part of their programming. At every opportunity those on the outside are talked about as "the other" and simply by way of not being a JW they must be cocaine sniffing alcoholic child raping prostitute using deviant. They press hard to increase the wall between those in and those out.

Why ‘Uncomfortable’ Books Like ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ Are Precisely the Ones Kids Should be Reading by SierraKiloBravo in books

Great article, I liked these bits in particular:

“If the language in To Kill a Mockingbird makes thirteen-year-olds “uncomfortable,” then I assume the school district is also insisting they stay off Twitter and never listen to rap music.”

“How are we supposed to learn from the past (and improve the present) if we’re ignoring significant pieces of history because it might make someone “uncomfortable?””

Another saying I’ve heard might be appropriate too: Prepare the child for the road, not the road for the child.

It surprises me that in this day and age, that people still join up to religions like the JWs. 5mins on the internet should raise enough reasons to question it more.
