Just take care of yourself, unfortunately not much you can do other than vent. Not having control over his actions towards others is probably going to make you feel worse, it might bring up some old emotions, so do what you need to feel safe. I don't use SaidIt super frequently but I'll leave it up for a little while tonight in case you need to talk or vent or whatever.

I know AL has been around for nearly a decade, was it always run by men? by xAcidRainx in Lesbians

[–]ShotTopic 25 insightful - 1 fun25 insightful - 0 fun26 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It was founded by someone who later realized she was bisexual. She took herself off the sub because she didn't think she should lead a lesbian sub as a bisexual.

Other mods came and went, including some who left and founded LesbianActually. Freya and Molly (current head mods) were once suspended by former mods. There have been repeated calls for them to resign over the years. Freya is trans, Molly is more vocal of the two, and they're dating / have dated.

When the sub went private a year (or less?) ago they added like a dozen new mods upon reopening, most of whom are trans.

Quick edit: it's important to note a mod can only be removed by someone with longer tenure than them. LA mods were once asked by members to come back to AL, but they refused unless Freya and Molly stepped down.

2nd edit: someone linked below the thread discussing Freya and Molly's suspension. It's pretty old now so if there are deleted comments you can change your URL from reddit to removeddit to see them.

There was even a straight male mod for a while. He primarily helped with CSS stuff in the background because he had a lot of mod experience the others didn't. But after a bunch of mods abandoned ship to create LA it inadvertently left him in charge.

People found out, he asked users what they wanted to do because he didn't want to just abandon AL without leadership People asked for a full mod reelection, including wanting Freya and Molly to step down. Straight guy left but Freya and Molly refused to step down.

[–]ShotTopic 21 insightful - 1 fun21 insightful - 0 fun22 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The original founder way way way back (like 10 years ago) realized she was bisexual and left because she didn't feel right running a lesbian sub.

Later, a few more mods left and formed r/lesbianactually instead (5 years ago).

r/actuallesbians was rudderless at times, for a brief moment a straight dude was in charge by accident because he had helped them with coding and when r/lesbianactually team left he was inadvertently put in charge by order of age/seniority.

He left too, and it's current head mod Mollysomething took over. Pretty sure she's actually a woman but the second highest mod was trans and they dated for a while. The two of them were super heavy handed in modding based on personal feelings and created the culture it has now.

I found the post you're referencing and I don't think that's what the OP intended, but I can understand how it can be read that way and how hurtful that can be when viewed through a certain lens. I'm not a survivor myself, just dated one and supported her through all the court/therapy/panic attack stuff.

I know for some people it can be a source of doubt in the confidence of their sexuality (or they may have been told by others it should be a source of doubt), so I can't imagine reading a post with similar vibes was fun. And anyway, it's not like sleeping with women magically negates the risk of flashbacks caused by sex. So I really don't see the idea OP was bringing up (survivors faking their sexuality to avoid sleeping with men or something) being something that happens much, if ever.

Anyway, I hope your night gets better.

[–]ShotTopic 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I feel way more kinship with other lesbians. I'm generally a pretty quiet and shy person, but I'll open up if I suspect a stranger might be gay. Way more helpful and friendly with them.

Back in my old retail job days in college, helping a lesbian couple pick out stuff for their house (hardware store) always brightened my day.

I feel safer around other lesbians and am more protective of them, they're my tribe even if they're a stranger. For example, one time a woman who pinged my gaydar got off the bus at the same stop as me. She and two men got off via the front door, I used the back door. I was keeping an eye on her the whole way we walked just on the off chance she might need help or protection. (The dudes got really close to her, but they ended up just walking faster and went around her).

It's not that I wouldn't help "straight-passing" women, but I'm just more aware of women who seem like they're my people. Otherwise I tend to kinda zone out and be lost in my head, listening to earbuds or something.

It's not that I'm brushing off concerns stemming from this post, it's that this election has larger long term impacts looming. Right now, I'm more worried about the health of our nation (if you're also in the US) and the health of our planet than I am about trans stuff. COVID, health care, climate change, environmental regulations, the supreme court, etc. Get Trump and as many anti-science GOP members out of office first, worry about the rest next.

The point of my comment is that I don't want this one town hall question to be the reason GC people don't vote for Biden or don't vote blue down the ballot. The GOP is no friend to women's rights.

Good article, thank you for sharing.

I also know even without raping siblings they have a huge problem with a shallow gene pool due to how tight knit the communities are. Years of inbreeding, frequently having to marry a cousin, causes a lot of birth defects. Example includes a higher than average rate of deafness. If I remember correctly all Amish communities can trace their ancestry back to just 200 people.

Also their farming techniques frequently don't meet EPA guidelines and the ground water around their farms are usually very polluted.

The creators of r/LesbianActually are former mods of /r/actuallesbians, and their whole thing is wanting limited moderation. They want the users to dictate the content, so that's why there's been a history of users having a little more freedom of speech. But it's also why there's been a huge influx in selfies.

It's essentially just AL with selfies and less moderation.

Yeah there's a "AyL" now too, but it's a different sub and isn't connected to any others. AL is the big one that is basically open to anyone, not just lesbians, and has lots of trans memes. LA broke off from AL years ago and wanted less moderation. But LA has basically devolved into AL with selfies. AyL is a small sub that says they're "neutral territory" between AL and TL (TrueLesbians).

It was on a trans sub and everyone was calling them out / disagreeing with OP. The person calling OP does appear to actually be trans from their profile.

Board members decide the otherall direction of a school district. Hire superintendents, approve budget / set spending priorities, approve curriculum / textbooks, decide school closures, stuff like that. The degree of power and responsibility really depends on the size of the district.

In this case the Passamaquoddy Indian Township Reservation only has like 700 people so it's a tiny tiny school district.

Biden, complete no-brainer.

He wasn't my pick in the primaries and I'm frustrated he's the Democrat candidate, but it is what it is at this point. When I cast my vote it won't be because I'm endorsing him as President, I'm endorsing the type of people he will be appointing. Cabinet members, advisers, judges, etc, that's what's important.

Maybe if I like his VP it'll make voting for him a little easier to swallow, but we gotta do what we gotta do.

My girlfriend voted for Kamala Harris in the primaries and a lot of people think she's a likely VP pick, but she might be better as attorney general.

I don't have a specific person in mind currently but I'm really curious when he'll announce his pick.

Edit - hey look, it's Kamala Harris afterall.

Pup is good! Wound was shallow because my girlfriend saw the pitbull coming and tried to pull our dog away at the last second. So the pitbull's teeth weren't able to get in too deep, it just wouldn't let go once it bit down. Vet did a 'clip and clean' and put her on antibiotics for a bit. I think it freaked us humans out way more than the dog.

Luckily there were some people at the dog park we had met before (our dogs befriended each other). They tried to help remove the pitbull and calmed us down after.

What to do with multiple personality disorders and different "alters"? by WhyAreYouSoDumb in GenderCritical

[–]ShotTopic 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

DiD (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is a very rare condition that has been over diagnosed (self diagnosed) by, usually, teens testing different personalities and trying to figure out who they want to be. They've turned a serious disorder into a fun quirky role play sort of thing. It's super insulting to the rare individual who actually has it. For those who legitimately have DiD, it's usually a trauma response to something that happened as a young child. The brain tries to protect itself by creating an alter to store those trauma memories so the "host" doesn't have to remember them.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/DIDCringe/. So many teen girls fake it and it's become a bit of a trend, especially on TikTok.

It's completely normal for teenagers to "try on" different personalities for a while as they figure out who they are (jock, prep, etc). Unfortunately, this is a new method for that and it's really insulting to those who do suffer from DiD.

Other places for lesbians? by Lesbianese in Lesbians

[–]ShotTopic 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

r/ActuallyLesbian is decent for Reddit, but it's super small and rather quiet. They do allow trans users but don't allow trans topics (either direction). You can't really talk about anything controversial though, just casual discussions. I've seen trans people complain it's a "terf sub", and I've seen people on SaidIt complain about them allowing trans users. Seems like they're trying to be something in the middle and I'm guessing they'd risk getting banned pretty quick by reddit if they weren't.

But like I said it's small and quiet. I'm not aware of anywhere active unfortunately, even this place gets quiet (or I just forget about it frequently). There is a Discord server for TrueLesbians but I forget about that one too. Plus it's a chat room which isn't my favorite format, I like the Reddit/SaidIt forum style.

[–]ShotTopic 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If she's the daughter of a former NBA player I'd expect her to be tall for a female.

As for starting on the boys team, I did sports when I was a kid and the best female players played with the boys teams. I think they did that when they wanted more of a challenge. When they got older and joined official school teams they switched back to the girl's teams, usually varsity. It was just the community youth leagues where they played on the boys teams.

Actually even I was on youth soccer team when I was super little where the only girls were myself and a friend of mine I'm still in contact with. Then as I got older I was on girls team. A girl from my school was on the boys team but was also friends with a bunch of my team. She would sometimes come and help us at practice.
