Not saying that at all. As a historian, I take information from other theories and speculations and their sources, then re-interpret it. For instance, I am working on a paper right now examining the motivation of France in entering the Revolutionary War. I've got dozen of both secondary sources (what other people have said) and some primary sources (What people at the time said) I use both to prove the topic of my paper.

New ways of interpreting old data are coming about all the time. Borderlands history is a good one to look at and is relatively new. Queer history is another. Nothing about the data is new for the most part- it's all things examined before. Now it is being examined in a new light.

Oh, I'm not saying that we don't need to constantly go back and re-evaluate the past. That needs to be done constantly to better understand who we are and where we came from. That being said, what we don't need is people going back and using history-sometimes incorrect history- to push an agenda or attempt to forget the past for moral reasons. https://thehill.com/capital-living/cover-stories/167475-revisionist-history-politicians-rewrite-the-past-to-suit-their-present

Not really a reddit thing, not seen anything like this there. Maybe Neutral politics is close? This is supposed to a bit of a controlled venue for debate. I'm putting up a topic in the hopes of keeping some kind of focus- god knows our politics need some sort of focus right now. I'm hoping for learning and debate. If we can't even talk, how can we solve any problems?

You've got some good ideas though. I'll put up a commentary post, and perhaps a suggestions one as well. Thanks for commenting!

What about a group like s/politicaldebate? Say that anything on the bottom 4 levels of the pyramid are flagged, and perhaps disable the ability to reply to those comments. Warnings are given to those who violate the rule. Three strikes and your out of the weeks debate. Try again next week. Every post or argument posed in the comments must have at least 1 source linked.

Just a spot for more in depth debate than on highly generalized meme posts. I'd love to see more debate, but when it is on posts this general it's hard to get a quality debate going.

Hey magnora7. Can we make a space specifically for political debate? I don't necessarily mind it being all over the front page, but a centralized sub might help foster more discussion. Make sure it really follows the pyramid of discussion and see where we get. Could have a topic of the week. Let people debate a topic for 7 days and see where it goes.

Not to prevent anyone from posting political stuff elsewhere, but just a spot for in depth discussion.

Essentially, there are a lot of illegal immigrants coming into the US. It's a problem politics have been fighting about for a while now. Some think we need to open our doors to them. Others think that they need to be stopped. The ones who want the open doors, liberals, go against federal law and declare their cities "sanctuary cities" where illegal immigrants wont be deported. Conservatives, who want to deport the illegal immigrants, threatened to move as many illegal immigrants as possible to the sanctuary cities. Liberals are now saying that they don't want that.

One every ten minutes? Wow. Total mood killer. The main reason I don't think a time limit on posting would work is that there are some subs with only 1 or 2 people actively posting, with others just commenting. I only get an hour or so free time with my current schedule, so I'd rather post a bunch in that hour, and check on it the next day. Not all people are that busy though, so perhaps it would work well.

Makes one wonder if we've become more jaded.
