How can you be lesbian or gay when those orientations imply that there must be some binary form of being? If you identify as a woman, have you always just played with Barbies when you were a kid, do you always use tons of makeup, love gossip and shoes and fawning over men and giggling and knitting? No? That's because you're not a "woman" because "women" don't exist. Same goes for men. We are all somewhere on the gender spectrum and nobody can realistically ever be on the extreme ends. So identifying as gay or lesbian just reinforces a harmful gender binary. #DropTheL #DropTheG #WeAreAllPan #NowICanPressureAbsolutelyEveryoneIntoSleepingWithMe

While I agree with the sentiment, her preoccupation with these labels is sketchy.

Dang, this is getting pretty nuanced. What if I'm into almost all the genders but not quite all of them? Limitsexual? What if I'm like, almost exactly into half of all the genders? Demisexual? Wait, that's already a thing. We're gonna have to contact the Committee for Sexualities to get that sorted out. What if I'm into an irrational number of genders? Gee, I wonder if there's some sexuality for people who are into zero genders. You know, for when you're into people who don't really feel like any identity and just are who they are. Mhh, nope, not yet. Well, I'm sure they're gonna get around to that any minute now.

100% agreed. Masculinity is being demonized and the attack on biological essentialism provides men with an easy way out of their predicament by simply identifying as women (or anything other than men, really.)

There are also other reasons for them to identify as women, of course, such as...

  • not only masculinity being portrayed as negative, but also rarely ever portrayed as a positive anymore, meaning men lack ways to see their masculinity in positive terms

  • feminism's toxic effect on dating culture and relationship expectations in which men are supposed to be perfect beings who never make a single mistake while women can abuse them however they like - something easily avoided by identifying as a woman and thereby not only shirking these new responsibilities, but also the responsibilities that used to come with being a man that made sense, like being the provider. instead, "trans women" can act like the spoiled narcissists feminism wants women to be

I identified as bisexual in a few places online. It felt closer to being honest. As someone with no sexual experience outside my one partner, it felt hollow, though. I could fantasize about being with faceless men but gay men IRL did nothing for me. I could not imagine the relationship I had with my partner happening with a man. Imagining myself being attractive to straight men though, that felt validating, and I had to fight that sense to stay closeted to myself. I still felt honest saying I was not straight.

User2: ""Male" is used colloquially for gender, it's an adjective as well as a noun, while "man" is only a noun and not a descriptor."

The gender cultists' moving of the goalposts continues. First it was "gender and sex mean different things." Now we're at "gender means gender and sex can also mean gender." Another telling thread here.

The transing of intersex people continues as well:

Why does the article state that Hollander showed up at Salas' home and shot her son and husband as if those were facts when the headline says that he is a suspect?

Why are lawsuits aiming to increase equality between the sexes called "seemingly frivolous"? Where do they get the justification for it "seeming" like they were "frivolous" to them? Isn't that equivalent to making the claim that you can mind-read, given that there are none of the usual indications for lawsuits being frivolous?

Why would Hollander want to kill Salas when she seemed to play little role in his life and he seemed to have little animosity toward her, merely mentioning her in passing in a text he wrote as "a lazy and incompetent Latina judge appointed by Obama" and the one case he ever had before her being allowed by her to proceed, with his only criticism of her being that she didn't "[move] the case along fast enough"?

Sure. True. That's not quite the same as saying christians today are jews though, because being a bad christian isn't the same as taking part in some jewish conspiracy.

people don't just give truck drivers free white sox tickets multiple times for no reason.

I can't see anything about "free" in that link. I just see it mentioning that he was able to see lots of games thanks to connections. That could mean a lot of things, like being given a discount. Who knows what it means. It's certainly not enough to somehow imply he was jewish. I could tell you some connections of mine that stand in contrast to some of my more lowly qualities that would imply I'm jewish as well by that logic.

there is more to his story to get a job working security at a nuclear plant. was either ex military or probably a cia/mossad agent.

And on what basis would you argue that? Check out this link. Doesn't seem like nuclear power plant security requires much expertise if they hire people with just a high school diploma, some classes, a background check, some tests and maybe some weapons training.

Since the vast majority of "trans women" are straight men, they likely just don't care about other straight men. Their harassment and calling themselves "transgender lesbians" is an attempt by straight men to force themselves on unwilling women. It would explain the huge overlap between trans-identified men and incels.

[–]SeasideLimbs 31 insightful - 4 fun31 insightful - 3 fun32 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

This. SRS in particular is a shitshow. Even assuming that the nightmare of a botched surgery doesn't occur (look up some stories about that - it's real-life horror) the results will still be a crude and largely functionally different imitation, at best. "Neovaginas" always lack the depth of a vagina, look different from the outside and are biologically very different, as can be seen in studies like this one. They also either don't lubricate at all or not nearly as well as a vagina. For those who start HRT very early in life (or even use puberty blockers) the penile length they end up with is so small that normal penetrative sex becomes entirely impossible and SRS itself might become an impossibility since there is simply too little material to work with in shaping a neovagina.

The other side has it even worse. Neopenises are basically entirely functionless. They don't look like the real thing at all and do not get erect.

This guy is like every trans trope bottled in one and even thinks he's "Not like other trans."

Right?? I had to keep myself from commenting on every little aspect of the guy's post cause it would have been a wall of text. There are so many things to pick apart. I feel like with all the headway trans-identified people have made, they have really let their guard down and more often let it all hang out now.

Women and even other men are just props to him for validation including the lesbians whose space he self-admittedly "invaded." We need autogynephilia to be part of the public discourse. Stat.

100% agreed. It's easy to make fun of people like this, but at the same time, he said he "completely broke down mentally" and has "pain and anguish" other people supposedly can't comprehend. It's also pretty clear that the relationship with his wife is incredibly troubled, given how he spends time cultivating crushes on other women on Twitter despite being married to a woman and having a child with her and how feels a strong need to somehow make his relationship with her something "special" by describing it as queer as if he didn't consider it exciting enough if it was a normal straight relationship.

Also, anybody else reminded of CWC when reading this?

I find men repulsive, particularly in their being in the world, every day men. I suffered too much at their hands, and I had to be in spaces, as rarely as possible, where they opened their vile mouths freely. Sometimes I wonder if the number of trans lesbians is not bolstered by the trauma of being sort of secretly embedded with men/boys in early childhood. My partner and I have talked a lot about what toxic male culture feels like on both sides of patriarchal enforcement on the playground. Young men learning to be young men made my life a living hell on the daily. I understand Valetie Solanas, and Janice Raymond almost, just in the intense distrust.

This guy truly is, like, the perfect trans person. He is all the things. You have the fetishization of lesbians, the hatred of one's own sex, the pseudobisexuality, the humiliation fetishism (his statements about how he wants to suck women's dicks and loves "strong women,") the creepiness he shows toward younger women, the intense desire to be ~special~...

What also strikes me about this post, perhaps even more so than just how many boxes he checks, is how interesting the entire post is in how it tries to cram all the things mentioned above into a narrative of a person finding themselves, questioning their feelings, being honest, being true, being thoughtful, being empathic and sincere. Somehow, who knows how, we're at a point where people have been given a language (so to speak, in terms of terms and vague concepts) that allows them to paint fetishism, mental illness, sexual frustration and sexism as something "beautiful, enlightening, intensely interesting, warm and funny," as the top reply claimed.

It's really, really sick. People are gonna look back on this time and think about people like him (and the person who responded to him) the way we nowadays think about human sacrifices in maya culture or men in ancient greece castrating themselves to become members of a religious cult.

They are something to consider with the intent of hopefully improving one's understanding of the world. If I decided I was going to "ignore somebody's opinion completely from now on," I would only stand to lose out on ideas that might (or might not, depending on their veracity) help me.

I guess I will never understand this idea of "this person said something I don't like, therefore I now think that everything this person will ever go on to say must be false." It seems like such a childish and simple-minded notion.

Sick of the 'oh trans people lead the stonewall riots! respect them!' narrative. No, they didn't. Trans people were not welcomed in early pride parades. Marsha P. Jesus christ, gay people were cringe back then. Thanks for the link! I've only seen text excerpts until now. Some passages are unclear because of all the homosexual male=feminine rhetoric so common back then, but there are no mentions of anyone who believed himself to be a woman, only drag queens. Side-note: I'm curious where Ginsberg came up with that 10% number.

This, coupled with the pandemic, has made me more dependent on the internet to heal, find solidarity, and build affirming community. When I take breaks from it, I feel myself slip back into gender dysphoria, lost in my own negative thoughts about myself. Being around others helps who accept me not only escape those negative thoughts, but replace them with self-acceptance.

Imagine being this dependent on validation from others. Only reason why anyone would be is if they know what they believe in isn't actually true.

But with all of that affirmation has also come unwanted communication. In the past nine months, I’ve experienced blatant sexism, overt transphobia, unwanted sexual advances from trans chasers, and numerous dogpilings on Twitter from mobs of strangers when I demand basic things like equal treatment under the law. I get dozens of emails that deadname me every day, and messages from strangers invasively asking about my past and my body. There’s a good chance that by the end of each day, I’ll have shared a bit of solidarity with other trans people and allies, but I’ll also feel ignored, attacked, and defeated by bullies. Many days end in tears.

Yikes. Imagine being this fragile.

My news feed will be full of informative, insightful journalism about social justice, but also conservative news stories, which thoughtlessly question the need for social change.

Note how he makes a distinction between "informative, insightful journalism" and "conservative news stories." Also, how dare anyone "thoughtlessly question" the obviously infallible theory of social justice. Adopt my ideology, bigot.

All of these threats have required me to be far more thoughtful about my information filtering. If I have to be on the road, I’m more mindful about which stores I go to and which towns I travel through. On the internet, I studiously block bullies on Twitter, and defriend transphobic, homophobic family members on Facebook. I dislike stories from news sources that seem to derive from the premise of my inhumanity. I am, in essence, constructing a very carefully designed filter bubble—one that affirms me, while preventing harm.

A person spiraling down into neurosis and paranoia in real-time. Amazing. What a horrible way to live. No wonder TRAs are always so angry.

People in my trans community have written me advice on how to manage the psychological assault that comes from being out as trans online.

If he was a "normal woman," why not keep that information hidden in certain places? Dating and such is one thing, but if you go on a forum about some band or chat on Discord, there's really no pressing reason to disclose you're trans. Also, way to go attacking assault victims by equating someone criticizing you on the internet to an act of violence.

But neither of these positions, or the mainstream commentary on them, address the need for speech to be minimally safe and humane. My filter bubble, and more broadly, my resistance to debate about civil rights and my aggressive ostracizing of those who deny them, isn’t about limiting free speech. It’s about not crying every night, not hating myself, and not feeling safe in public, while still being able to engage with my communities.

Well, I'm glad somebody at least admits it. That these are narcissistic, mentally ill men who demand that literally the entire world walk on eggshells just to avoid their mental disturbances from flaring up too much.

Moreover, what about my speech? Constant debate about whether I deserve equal rights, even for the most basic things, like having my name used in academic publications or having the right to use a bathroom safely, chills my speech.

See, trans people just want basic rights. Like being given access to the other sex's bathrooms. Nevermind those people in africa who don't have access to clean water. This right here are real problems.

Is it any coincidence that most people asking for open public discourse without consequences are white, cis men, who rarely suffer such harms? What possible harm could come to them from debate, aside from public censuring?

Nice how he just ignores all the women and minority people who call for an end to cancel culture. And what they have to deal with isn't just "public censuring" - unless that's another leftist orwellianism standing for them having their entire careers destroyed and prevented from ever being given work again and flooded with death threats and sometimes physical attacks as well and constant character assassination through lies.

In extremely rare circumstances, they might lose their job and their platform

"Extremely rare" my butt.

but that won’t stop them from getting another.

...Which the leftists then want gone as well.

Anyone that faces some kind of oppression or exclusion in our racial, gender, class, and ability hierarchies who speaks up to defend themselves from unwanted communication faces emotional, existential, sometimes mortal risks.

Funny. Right now it seems like it's mostly far-left activists who are the ones killing people (including black men.)

To some—my republican cousins, my evangelical uncles, the entirety of the conservative United States—I am a snowflake. A weak, emotional mess, too easily triggered by words, and proof that the progressive left are a bunch of sensitive, entitled socialists. What they see, from their balcony above, is someone who refuses to take responsibility for their own suffering and plight, and lazily demands that others change in order to appease their weak constitution. When they ask what would Jesus do, their apparent answer is to spit upon me, pity me, refuse to lend a hand, call me names, and reject my humanity and demand for equal treatment. Of course, what they cannot see, or refuse to see, is that I don’t have the power to stop them. Only they have that power, but they refuse to use it, because doing so would mean taking responsibility for my suffering, and they’re too weak and too selfish to take on that burden.

"I refuse to take responsibility for my life... and that's entirely your fault." Amazing.

filter bubbles are a necessary refuge. I will use them to isolate myself from harm when I need to. I will block and report communication from people who share hate speech. That will have the unfortunate effect of excluding me from debate that I actually want to participate in, and sheltering me from opinions that I’d like to hear. It will limit my civic and scholarly participation, and sever me from my communities and their support. But like any refuge, my filter bubble will not be a permanent home. I will use it to stop crying, to heal, to be reassured by friends and family, and to let my heart stop racing. When I’m ready, I will come out of my filter bubble, ready to self-advocate again, reminding myself that most of the debates that harm me are not motivated by something as mundane as preserving free speech, but rather by my erasure. And I will brace myself, knowing that even those debates that come from good faith will demand that I put my pain on the table for all to see and discuss, before they are ever to be convinced of my humanity.

This is why I'm honestly not really afraid of a leftist revolution. These people are so fragile, any actual conflict would just leave them a quivering slobbering mess on the floor.

How dare anyone have sex without the goal of having children. So that is your beef huh?

Do you have any actual arguments or is this entire conversation just going to be you making up things I never said?

WOW! Right wingers are on a higher plane: they make a "logical distinction between sexuality and fetishes."

Well... yeah.

It's just so "logical" see? Anyone can see the difference between "sexuality" and "fetishes". How dare anyone have "fetishes"?

Sure, one example of such people being, you know, psychologists. Paraphilias are a scientific concept. Right-wingers didn't come up with that.

Have children instead.

Or not. I sure don't.

I don't know, ask a right-winger. Or a mainstream leftist for that matter, given how much TRAs love to dictate especially homosexual people's private lives, up to and including wanting to force lesbian women to be penetrated by penises. Pretty sick. Also idk how right-wingers think but I'm pretty sure if they saw "any kind of sexual expression as perversion" they wouldn't be having children - something they statistically do more often than left-wingers. They do have one over on left-wingers though in that they do make a logical distinction between sexuality and fetishes.

What used to make the cultural excesses of the religious right so harmless - even comforting - was you knew that movies, documentaries, books, music and journalistic articles would follow to point out the lunacy we were seeing. I basically agree with you, OP. That's probably the biggest problem for now. The only way to change that is to post more things that aren't just related to topics like free speech or politics. Oftentimes it only takes a few little nudges for an interesting conversation to happen or some activity in a community. More cute cats, interesting art, music, architecture, fandoms, etc would help prevent this site from ghettoizing itself as a perpetual reaction to Reddit and instead turn it into a proper community in its own right.

If you seek trans-critical places, I'd recommend s/LGBDropTheT. The radical feminist communities tend to be full of shameless and naked misandry, unlike LGB communities. It should be fine even if you're straight. They don't tend to care in my experience. Check out the rules. There are some terms disallowed also. Why, I'm honestly not sure. I don't see why they would be against terms like tranny or TiM/TiF, especially since what those acronyms stand for (trans-identified male/female) is allowed.

There's also the problem that there's not as much reason for them to go after straight people. The vast majority of them are straight men identifying as women and straight women identifying as men, which is why they keep going after lesbian women and gay men, because they want to get into their pants. The only thing they usually say they want from other straight people is "validation" in the form of being attractive to them.

Jesus... The comments, too. I recommend neither the post nor any of the comments on it for anyone who doesn't wanna feel angry right now.

Some of the low points: A straight man with wife and kids who "became a woman" at age 60 and now feels like LGB people consistently exclude trans people from LGBTQ+. Not even joking. He even blames his growing suicidal ideation on LGB people not being accepting. Another person is arguing that the number of people who know and who would date a trans person is similar and that therefore, everyone who knows a trans person would date them, ignoring the many people who have peaked exactly because they met a trans person and saw what they are really like rather than what media constantly tells them they're like. But it gets worse. Two of the replies straight up call for trans-identified people to attack LGB people with homophobic rhetoric.
