How much time and money does it require of him to produce his garbage content?

There's apparently money in churning out this kind of content. I mean, the biggest investment would be research and clearly these creators aren't interested in accuracy. In the case of Somerton, there's a number floating around Twitter, people are speculating he was making 6 figures from Patreon alone. I'm not entirely sure if it's true or not, but hbomberguy retweeted a couple of these claims so maybe I'm missing something obvious.

We have given up diversity of thought on the internet in exchange for convenience. Every single niche thing had its own independently-run forum, now all the discussions are happening on Reddit and Discord. No need to make a new account every time you want to post something, and the centralization makes discovering content outside your bubble easier, but what we're allowed to say online is effectively governed by a much smaller number of people. Reddit has a LONG history of cracking down on communities and members with certain differing views, gender being one of them. They also seem keen on making sure all subreddit moderators hold their views as well. As pointed out on X formerly known as Twitter, it's not because Reddit is concerned with being in advertisers' good graces.

Being on the internet really made me realize just how male centric and male worshipping the world really is.

Yes, but also this is magnified by the fact that the largest online communities have more control than ever before and happen to be run primarily by men who don't care about women. My guess is that the world is slightly less bad than the current landscape of the web makes it appear.

From what I've seen with federated services in general, most servers fall into one of two camps. Either they're pretty well moderated and will block servers that host content that they have a problem with, or they're a "free speech" server that is filled with edgelords posting hateful content with no merit whatsoever. I think you're right that posting in the "but my free speech" servers would be a waste of breath. Plus the optics of associating with these people would be less than favorable.

In theory, there could be a server that focuses on good-faith discussion of controversial topics, but I don't know of any. That would be a good place for "recruitment." Such a place might not get blocked for as many servers, either.

Ugh, yeah I can't stand this "argument," if you can call it that. As long as the TQ+ are eroding LGB approval, it really doesn't matter that some of our "allies" are against same sex marriage. But that's the other thing, we're not allied. They got their reasons to oppose the trans rights movement, we* got ours. Sometimes they overlap.

Also good for you getting out of there. I was never a JW myself but I am very familiar with them due to a loved one being involved. The org has caused a lot of destruction in my life and to a lesser extent continues to do so.

I don’t think all of them are actual people. There are several other countries that have a vested interest in our being divided and they have known for a long time how to push peoples buttons because it weakens us and our resolve.

.

Yep... Russia loves this tactic.

😂 I think you got it backwards.

"countries want us divided because blah blah wah"

Same sex marriage was accomplished without the help TQ+. This need for unity is not mutual. To me it just makes more sense if hostile countries are backing the gender crap. And if it takes out the LGB movement in the process, even better for them. The alternative is that the side constantly trying to rewrite history is fighting against Putin. Or that Putin isn't bolstering the side that will happily turn young adults into lifelong medical patients. Give me a break.

This one line hits these points on the BITE Model:

  • Behavior #18: Instill dependency and obedience
  • Thought #1d: Organize people into us vs. them (insiders vs. outsiders)
  • Emotional #5c: Instill fear, such as fear of Enemies
  • Emotional #5e: Instill fear, such as fear of Leaving or being shunned by the group

I only started my career a few years ago and I'm making decent money. Just bought a house and that's going to eat up a good portion of my income. But in my industry, it's normal to make more with experience so that's how I've justified it. If I continue on my current trajectory, I'll be alright. But many Americans won't be as fortunate, I think. Things look pretty bleak.

I would recommend moving though. I recently dated someone who moved here (northern Midwest) from a large city closer to the east coast and she was amazed at how relatively cheap rent was here.

Great video. Watched the whole thing. Just have a thought on how Mr. Shelton engaged with the other guests on Dr Phil.

We all know not to bother saying things like "sex and gender are the same thing" to TRAs, right? Gender has been redefined. Is it worth it to re-redefine it? I don't think it is. In my opinion, when they say "sex and gender are two different things," it's better to respond with, "you're right! Gender is completely irrelevant and sex is real and important."

TRA's prove this point constantly, even in the Dr Phil clip. Who menstruates? Ask a gender cultist and you'll get a pointless response that doesn't answer the question. Because they want to frame it in terms of gender that is completely irrelevant to the discussion. Sex is relevant. Females menstruate.

No matter what you're talking about, gender is nearly never relevant. That's why there are loads of questions on r/askreddit directed at particular sexes (whether they're addressed as penis-havers/uterus-havers or simply as men/women) and virtually none directed at people who identify as men or identify as women. Because any question that can be asked only to people who identify a particular way might as well be opened up to all people. Let me illustrate: what do all people who identify as women have in common? They're human. That's it. You know who else is human? People who identify as men. Because gender isn't relevant.

Rant over.

Yes, it's "obvious." But I don't think that's intentional. To my untrained eye, it looks like somebody unskilled made an honest attempt at making it look realistic.

But let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Let's suppose it was meant to look obvious. My first question is, "why do it?" I'm going to be extremely generous and assume once again for the sake of argument that they have a perfectly sound answer to that question. My next question: "Why oh why would you think that that would ever be perceived as a good look when your critics accuse you of trying to rewrite history???"

The left will use this as fuel to hate the intolerance of the right and will ultimately double down, even if in the short term it looks like they're backing down. And I can't really blame them. Republicans oppose the trans movement. That's all I have in common with them, really. They get everything else wrong. There's no nuance. There's no discussion that doesn't fall back on the bible somehow. And they're just plain full of hate. If we're going to win hearts and minds, hate needs to be left out of it.

Hassan has noticed some of these similarities too (source 1 | source 2), but as far as I know he hasn't gotten too involved in the trans debate.

The last paragraph about leaving the old worldview behind and rebuilding from the ground up sounds exactly like how I felt when I left my religion. And I don't think that's a coincidence.

Also the requirement of friends and family to fully approve of the transition or they lose all contact with the kid is very culty.

That's good to know about Ovarit. Though it looks like all Porkbun provides is standard WhoIs protection (someone correct me if I'm wrong), which only works as long as nobody's trying to sue you. Njalla gets around this by being the "owner" of the domain. Here's what their FAQ page has to say:

We're not actually a domain name registration service, we're a customer to these. We sit in between the domain name registration service and you, acting as a privacy shield. When you purchase a domain name through Njalla, we own it for you. However, the agreement between us grants you full usage rights to the domain. Whenever you want to, you can transfer the ownership to yourself or some other party.

someone is going to have to bite the bullet and register some degree of personal info in order to reserve us a domain name

I think we should try Njalla before we resort to that. Unless anyone is willing to take one for the team. Do we still have a working relationship with LGBA?

I don't know about getting servers set up, how hosting works ... all that technical stuff is beyond me.

I am ready to help with this.

so I guess they're one of the ones that will hold onto it for a while after it expires?

Not sure if namecheap does this domain parking thing. And to be frank, trying to snatch it up when it expires is not a great plan.

I don't know anything about how Tor/onion or I2P / P2P works.

The appeal of Tor/I2P is that the host can be anonymous. That makes it possible to self-host without exposing the server's IP (and therefore general physical location and possibly personal identity of whoever owns the hardware). Domains on these networks aren't registered in the same way that domains on the clear net are registered, either. No need to provide PII for a domain. That's the short of it.

This comes back to the initial conversation on privacy and trust. This all started moving because Saidit was no longer considered trustworthy, after all. Private conversations on here can be read by site admins. But they can probably be read by the hosting provider, which is likely a third party. The plan was to put that trust in rDrama and their hosting provider instead. And with the links being posted by Carp, that trust was perhaps misplaced. So if you ask me, going forward we should eliminate these middlemen at the very least. If we're paying for a hosting platform, the people managing the hosting service should be people inside our community. If we want to limit access even further than that, then we should consider self hosting.

I'm up for exploring hosting platforms since it would be no worse for privacy than rDrama running everything. And as long as expressing the views held here is legal in the countries that we're doing business in, total anonymity isn't super important. Just enough anonymity that the crazies can't identify us.

-edit-

I should also add that I think users' anonymity should be valued over their privacy. If you want private conversations, seek out an E2E encrypted platform outside of saidit. Assume everything posted here is public.

The readme for saidit is straightforward enough for me to follow (same with rDrama, now that I look at it). And while Python isn't the language I'm most comfortable in, I'm familiar enough that I could even potentially modify saidit or rDrama to suite our needs. Don't want to make any promises that I can't keep, but I am interested in helping.

Like Namecheap or GoDaddy or those other companies, I'm assuming you mean.

Bingo! GoDaddy was the exact registrar I was thinking of. It's a nice feature if you legitimately forget to renew a domain, but would be an additional obstacle for us.

If you have any articles/sources you'd recommend

This is the one I was reading that mentions Njalla. Which I was willing to mention by name because it (Njalla) was developed by The Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde.

Before the news dropped that s/lgbdropthet was working with rDrama, the other option I was researching was Tor's .onion or I2P (or both). These solutions (at least on their own) would absolutely suck for visibility, but would be great for anonymity.

[–]RippoffOfLove 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Hey, don't panic. I think it's more important that the current domain hasn't been established yet. The biggest concern in my opinion is establishing that our space is one domain and then having to move down the road because rDrama owns it. So it's good we're talking about it now.

It can technically be sniped like that after the expiration, but there will likely be others that think to do the same. And they will almost certainly have worse intentions than anyone at rDrama. Also some registrars renew expired domains and park it for the owner in case they decide they wish to renew it after the fact. Just something to be aware of. So yeah, I would NOT count on sniping the domain.

The other two options are either coordinate with someone at rDrama to transfer the domain, or cut your losses and find a new domain. Better to do that sooner rather than later.

On the topic of anonymity- in doing some research, it's possible to remain anonymous but I don't think you can also truly own the domain in that case. There's Njalla for example. May be a worthwhile compromise.

I can only speculate, but this is either quite old or possibly fake. What stands out to me is that OOP is supposedly so deep in the gender cult ("both of them are women and lesbians, just like me or any other cis lesbians") but she says "transwoman." Leaving out the space in trans woman is quite the faux pas that I'm sure Lia would have educated OOP on before this post came to be.

I personally don't have a preference which solution we go with. It'd be nice to "own" the data and all that, but my privacy isn't currently a concern as I assume everything I say on this platform is public. And as for the "compromised" admins, as long as we have a back up place to regroup if something happens, I'm fine with staying here. And deciding where that should be is out of scope for this thread.

For the 2nd part, I think the reddit style works better because so many posts are links and traditional forum software wouldn't lend itself as well to that content.
