The phobia nonsense is also kind of insulting to people who actually have issues with phobias... My aunt has very bad anxiety and OCD and some damn specific genuine phobias, for example of buses and and a specific fast food joint. Her reactions to those things are very extreme and entirely illogical. Putting "phobic" onto everyone who ddisagrees with you is such a fallacy and frankly rude

Yeah, this is my biggest gripe with it too. It gives the vibe that this guy "turned" her, which feeds into conversion therapy rhetoric. People are allowed to be bisexual, and I'm sure many kinsey 5.5s genuinely think they're lesbians until they're incidentally attracted to a man one time. But that means you were never a lesbian - guess that doesn't sound provocative and shocking enough though. "I used to be a lesbian until I met this one guy who rocked my world" is such a straight male fantasy, while "I didn't realise I was bisexual until I was in my late 20s" isn't really

Trans woman in real life is trying to date me after finding out I'm a lesbian by RedditHatesLesbians in LGBDropTheT

I'm definitely going to tell someone after all these comments... They've made me realise its more serious than I thought. I'm so used to having this sort of thing dismissed, tbh, and told it's not a big deal and I should ignore it. Not relating to a situation like this but relating to creepy men being creepy in general. I've always been encouraged to ignore cat calling, let men down easy, even go on dates just to be nice so I guess because of that socialisation I'm more accepting when I should have probably reported this weeks ago.

Thank you for this comment. I've told my lesbian friend to avoid him like the plague and not let him find out her sexual orientation, I'm really worried about him finding other people to victimise and doing the same thing. Will definitely document everything. I'm mostly scared of not being taken seriously, because he's not done anything violent or that "bad" (yet) and I don't want it to seem like I'm overreacting. But it's better to report it now as a preventative thing than waiting for it to maybe escalate, right? I don't want to exaggerate but this whole thing has genuinely made me feel unsafe at school. I mean I'm 5'2" and physically I'm no way his match, and I feel really intimidated because I know I couldn't defend myself if he actually tried something, and I get this panicky fight or flight response whenever I see him now like my instincts are telling me he's dangerous. Maybe it's just in head but my body is giving an intense fear response. I should carry around some pepper spray

That really sucks that you've read similar stories so many times, it's dreadful. People like him are so obviously mentally ill but no one wants to address the elephant in the room. It feels almost like when men would try to convert lesbians and say they just haven't found the right dick yet - only now the argument is that I should date a male BECAUSE I'm a lesbian, not because I'm secretly not or because sexuality is fluid. It makes it so much worse. He literally showed absolutely zero interest in me before finding out, probably even negative interest tbh. Other lesbians should be wary when interacting with trans women in any context

Just wanted to butt in and say that as someone who has dated and kissed a male, I also felt nothing. I attributed it to him just being a bad kisser and my own inexperience, or people overhyping kissing. I even googled "people who don't like making out" to look for similar stories and came across some, but they were mostly germaphobes who didn't like it because they thought spit was gross. I thought I was just broken and would just sit there while being kissed, completely inactive. You know, like the scene from But I'm A Cheerleader? Literally, lmao. It just felt weird, wet, gross and unappealing

The reason why I tend to be skitty around misandrist lesbians is because hatred is such a strong emotion, it gives men way too much emotional and mental real estate. I'd rather be with a woman who's completely apathetic towards men because discussion of men in almost any context bores me. I don't care if it's talking about how much they suck, they're irrelevant in a lesbian relationship and I'd like to bask in that freedom

Right, I don't mean people who just find certain males handsome. Women can find other women beautiful without being bisexual. But, when you're constantly talking about how hot a male celebrity is and you don't do the same with women it just leaves a bad taste in my mind. Personally I don't find any man aesthetically pleasing and I just don't get why anyone would, I'm always looking at the women on the TV screen. But when it comes to purely aesthetics it's like debating which painting is prettier, it's subjective and doesn't have much to do with sexuality. Your own body tells you if you're sexually attracted to men you find beautiful and repulsion is a sign a woman is a lesbian.

Women are beautiful, just imagining the concept of waking up next to a faceless woman or being held in a women's arms makes me so warm and maple-syrupy inside, the mere thought it simply amazing. Looking at even a picture of a woman I'm attracted to just makes the attraction so strong and apparent, it's insane. I cannot deal with people who feel so tepid and shallow for women and claim to be lesbians all while gushing over men, celebrities or otherwise. Ugh

[–]RedditHatesLesbians 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah... I completely understand. I don't know any real lesbians in real life, only women who claim to be lesbians while still dating and hooking up with men, women who claim to be lesbians but think vulvas are gross, women who claim to be lesbians but constantly talk about their male celebrity crushes... It's honestly just gross, disheartening and as you succinctly put it, alienating. I don't trust anyone who says they're a lesbian anymore because 9/10 they're not actually homosexual. I'm beginning to think true homosexuality is even like 0.5% of women or even less, as in the true homosexuality of never having thought of men sexually AT ALL. With most lesbians I speak to they all seem to have exceptions, or would fuck Leonardo dicaprio, and no one seems to get that I have the same amount of sexual interest in any man as I have towards roadkill. People just don't get the total lack of anything there, and they think they must be lesbians because they like women, or even like 99% women but true homosexuality is pretty rare in my opinion...

I feel this 100%. Last year I was completely in love with one of my bi friends, asked her out and she actually said yes. I was ecstatic. Because of lockdown we didn't see each other all that much but we texted constantly and face timed, we'd go to sleep together while on call to one another. Anyway, after a while when lockdown stopped for a few months over here we visited each other, spent lots of time together but she didn't want to go past holding hands, not even kissing. I respected her boundaries and it was her first relationship ever, and we're only young, I was 17 then and she was 18 but after a few months more of refusing to act like a couple and just treating me like her best gal pal I gave up. Now she's dating some dude, posting pictures of them kissing online and raving to everyone about him while she tried to keep our relationship on the down low. It really hurts, not doing that again

This is so disappointing and gross. You are NOT A LESBIAN. YOU ENJOY SEX WITH MALES. I don't care if it's only this one male, I don't care if you prefer females, I don't care if you really want to be a lesbian - the moment you experience sexual attraction to a man, let alone sleep with one and loooove it, you are bisexual. It's that simple. It isn't complicated, it's not millitant or exclusionary, it's common sense.

This. I feel really uncomfortable being grouped into the LGBT or even LGB community solely because I'm a lesbian. I didn't ask to be gay, I just am, and I hate that I'm inherently part of some group solely by existing. I can't think of any other group that gets treated like this. Grouping all other minorities into fun little clubs is seen as regressive, but putting all homosexuals together and even assuming they have enough in common to want to be together is apparently just fine? I have absolutely nothing in common with a homosexual male even as far as homosexuality goes, you have a completely different relationship with attraction and male homosexuality is also seen much differently on a societal level. And the bullshit about LGBT being necessary because people "fought for our rights" makes me so mad. No American gay activist has ever given me ANY rights. Like America is the only country in the world

I feel kind of bad for being an actual lesbian my age now. Being 16 a lot of people my age buy into this ideology - I've met girls who identify as aroace (with a long dating history of boys...) and even "nonbinary" people. I've met more bisexuals than I can count on both hands since I started college and somehow I always find out they're bisexual 5 minutes into the conversation because they'll tell me or have an obnoxious pride pin of some sort. Statistically they can't all be telling the truth! I feel like I have to keep my sexuality a secret to not be associated with this craziness. I have an actual personality and I don't want that to be overshadowed and to become LGBTQ+ in people's heads, same basket as the girls with bad hair styling who put their pronouns in their bios.

Small rant but I feel like we've taken 2 steps forward and then a giant running leap into crazy land.

Fair point, what's more annoying is that everyone has their own idea of what women's rights/gay rights should be, and you're automatically lumped in with the LGBT community. I honestly don't think I'm part of that and if I somehow automatically am just because I'm same sex attracted, I'd like to sign a waver to opt out lol. I don't feel like those people represent me or having anything in common with me. I also hate how some people consider real lesbians "bad lesbians" if their political views aren't as expected. I mean, this part of my identity and me also being an immigrant in this country just alienates me from a lot of people because they immediately perceive me a certain way.

It's not homophobia or fear of being rejected that's keeping me in the closet, it's just the fear of being seen as "the lesbian" permanently because I'm such a minority and everyone assuming that I'm speaking for all Lesbiankind for the rest of time. There's so much more to me than just who I find attractive. I guess it's a small form of the soft bigotry of low expectations, once people know you're a lesbian that's all they expect you to be.

Work on self improvement so that you're a really banging person to date when someone finally comes along?

Even though looks and attraction are obviously part of it, I think people swipe for the looks but stay for a vibrant and interesting personality. Unless you're particularly unlucky I also think everyone has the potential to be at least average and someone's exact type, so don't get down on yourself. Most "ugly" people you see just need a haircut, maybe some weigh loss and a better skin care routine. Maybe you're getting such few matches because all of the actual lesbians avoid dating apps like the plague nowadays (they tend to be overran by men in dresses and bi women looking for a third) or because of COVID, too.

I get being lonely, it can really take a toll on your mental health. What I've found helps me is getting really into a hobby, multiple if possible, and at least one being a social one. I do martial arts in a club with the same people every week and although I haven't found the love of my life there, it gives me a sense of community that keeps me stable lol. Maybe also get a dog for unconditional love

You can't argue rationally with emotion or narcissism. The vast majority of the population has zero interest in trans people and they can't stand that, and bisexuals who do aren't validating enough because they're attracted to both sexes. They need a lesbian because lesbians can only be attracted to females, so this validates their autogynephilic fantasies to the max. All these arguments were made secondary to them having uncontrollable boners for the idea of a lesbian fucking them.

I'm a teenager growing up just as this TQ stuff is at its peak and I've literally never felt bad for not liking dick or for being a lesbian, I've never been super concerned with what my peers think of me either. I just live my life and don't care. Just being a teenager doesn't mean you're weak willed and have 0 critical thinking skills. Someone who is this easily influenced would have also been susceptible to dozens of other harmful trends had she been born a bit earlier, such as cutting.

Nope. It's everywhere. Of course, any male-dominated hobby is also going to be choked full of transgendered males... I'm 5'2" and my girlfriend is 5'8" and loves wearing boots. She's probably like 5'10" in her highest ones. Although on paper that seems like a crazy height difference, it's actually not. I mean with straight couples a height difference this big is the norm, and if anything straight girls like their man as tall as possible, there aren't any practical issues. I love her long legs and I basically swoon when she's towering over me, lol. I also love feeling her hair tickle my neck when she bends down to kiss me, I love it when she raises my chin up towards her. No downsides.

It's a term for bisexual women with internalised biphobia to use instead of bisexual to describe their attraction, from what I've seen. It's synonymous with lesbian used as an adjective but it's generally used as a more umbrella term for womanly love for women, and of course fits snugly into queer theory because they can make it include transwomen.

Hot take but I'm beginning to hate this unconditional sympathy/empathy for trans men. They're not just poor confused women, many of them fetishise gay male relationships and clearly show signs of autoandrophillia. They also infect spaces for gay men like r/askgaybros and purposefully try and stir up so called transphobia to get the sub banned. There's malice there. Just because they're women doesn't make them any less shitty, even if they are just masculine women trying to opt out of womanhood, I don't feel like they should get a pass for that either if they're upholding TRA ideology anyway - it hurts all other women, it hurts lesbians, it hurts gay men. Maybe some of it is confusion but then again maybe some trans women are just confused, too.

Ever read The Second Sex? A good point the author makes in that among many is that where there is one, there is also the other. Locals and foreigners, family and strangers, hot and cold, gay and straight, men and women. We naturally form groups socially and define others outside of those groups in relation to ourselves. So it makes sense that some of us sometimes bond with our "in" groups by antagonising the Others, since the distinction between the in group and the others is what creates the in group. But by no means does it mean that that's the ONLY thing those groups bond over or that its unique to men. This quote is ridiculous lol

Women loving women. Originated from Tumblr, it's mainly used as a shorthand for all female homosexual relationships, whether that's two bisexual women, two lesbians or a combination. Used mostly because it's more accurate than "lesbian relationship" since one or both women might not be lesbians, and because Tumblr ballerinas are allergic to the word homosexual. Not a fan of it personally since it's vague, soft language.

I also don't want children and that's a big reason why. I'm a lesbian so it'll never happen accidentally, but I would never use a sperm donor or adopt or anything like that regardless.

I wonder if lesbians and gay men are the exceptions, in a way? While, sure, some lesbians want biological children, I think that's a small minority

I find it weird how humans have evolved in such a way that pregnancy is so traumatic for women. You watch the labour of other animals and the kids just pop out and begin running 3 minutes later. With humans, our heads are too big and our hips are too narrow. I think people forget just how many women died during childbirth nowadays with modern medicine. Biology is definitely not something to be dismissed. Men needed to be the aggressors when we had to be in such a vulnerable state just to procreate and when our children take such a long time to be self sufficient to any degree. Taken away from our natural environment, those roles play out in different ways. The question then becomes what would a perfect society look like? Equal in every way isn't realistic since we seem innately different in many ways. Men will always be much stronger than women, and men will always seek to dominate. So is equality even possible?

It's interesting how males are seen as the default sex even though women are the ones to procreate, though. Women are the ones with the ability to replicate ourselves, we all start out as female in the womb. Yet women are seen as imperfect men, an idea both in the Bible and in culture as a whole.

I'm 16 so I didn't really think about it from that perspective. I've always questioned these things, mostly from the age when all the girls around me started wearing make up and I just didn't want to. I couldn't be bothered with it and didn't want to have to think about not smudging it constantly, and anyway, boys don't have to wear it so why should I? But these arguments were met with "That's just how girls are," as if every girl is born with a powder brush in her hand. When I asked other girls my age why they started wearing it, they either shrugged awkwardly or said something along the lines of "I enjoy it, it's for me." Maybe it began as a way of seeking Maturity and wanting to grow up, but those same girls began to be almost terrified of going anywhere bare faced. They carried make up everywhere and if they didn't wear it one day they were met with the dreaded, "You look tired today!" The girls who didn't wear it were seen as otherly to the girls who wore a lot of it, and vice versa. The former category is basically not there anymore as time has gone on. And I know it's just make up, but I've never been given a concrete explanation regarding just why it's such a compulsive ritual for women that doesn't reek of sexism.

Long rant about that in particular, but yeah. Interesting point about it being ingrained. It would be a bit like pointing out how many people the British empire killed and their concentration camps to some of the British Empire lovers around here that claim it was Britain at their peak. So contradictory it's easiest to ignore it.

Honestly I'd wait, personally, but keep an emotional wall and distance by not letting myself get too invested. Keep talking to her in whatever way you both enjoy but acknowledge to yourself that in all likelihood it won't pan out. The reason being, how often do you come across another lesbian where you both genuinely like each other? Our dating pools are tiny, and sure life is short but it's not like we're straight girls with about 15 other guys they're attracted to to choose from at a moments notice in a couple miles radius. Maybe a exaggeration but you get the point. If your current dynamic makes both of you happy, you can keep it as a hopeful friendship for at least a little while before completely giving up, because she might come around. But idk this may be terrible advice lmao, listen to the others

I think you've misunderstood me. Maybe in the grand scheme of things, there will be a cure. Maybe it's very possible and will be around soon, even. But at this moment in time it is immutable, it is something you can't change with any methods currently available. So self acceptance, even if it's only until a cure comes along, is the only thing that makes sense. What's the point of hating it bitterly when there's nothing you can do to change it? I suppose you could go into the field of human sexuality and psychology and try to change it yourself if you wanted to, but apart from that, the only thing you can control are your actions - you can't not have that attraction to begun with at this moment in time. I try to make it a point in my life to not be bitter about circumstances I have no control over, and never have had any control over. Hatred simply takes up too much mental space in my opinion.

Honestly you seem more than a little bitter and every interaction I've seen you have comes off that way to some degree. My purpose wasn't to try and argue with you and you're entitled to your own view of homosexuality, however negative. I'm sorry you've had bad experiences. I've also struggled with mental health a lot, specifically an eating disorder and depression. I've been hospitalised for it. So I understand where you're coming from, it's just that I don't personally consider my sexuality to be an ailment or a negative. Nor a positive. The way the world reacts sucks sometimes, but I've never considered my sexuality itself to be the problem. I hope you find peace and a cure if there ever is one though. The only issue with that would be if it's ever forcibly given, but people should absolutely have the choice.
