Gender” isn’t about whether you like to read or garden, whether you’re inquisitive or incurious, or whether you’re chatty or quiet. Gender is an aspect of identity, and perhaps of personality, but it is not exactly the same as identity or personality.

Gender is a bunch of signals, given through bodies, clothes, mannerisms, etc., which tell others something about societal roles and personal identity. I think it’s hard to come up with a watertight, essentialist view of what gender is, because everybody experiences it differently.

Venting about misunderstandings surrounding trans women (NSFW, tw: ge… I really, really wish that more cis sapphic women understood that a trans woman's genitalia is not basically cis man's.

And like I think it's very common misconception for cis women that this is the case.

And it's just not.

Like HRT changes your body is such radical and diverse ways that to compare cis men to trans women in this department is just bad. It's like comparing blueberries to potatoes. Cause our course of drugs and hormones that allow us to become more how we are cause intense body changes, everywhere.Not to mention surgeries that aren't full SRS.

And even if a trans woman isn't on HRT or had any surgery, there's also all the mental stuff. Cause for a large percentage of trans women our mental relationship with that part of our bodies is difficult and fraught at the best of time. Which of course changes how we engage sexually with it. And even for those trans women without that, it's still not fun to be basically understood anatomically as a cis-man.

We are women, even, without HRT and/or gender dysphoria and would like to be treated as such.

And for the artists out there who make erotic sapphic art which has trans women and cis women in sexual encounters, please I'm begging you for the love of Sappho to stop having so much P in V penetration. There is a time and place for that but if you think of a trans woman and a cis woman having sex and your first thought is P in V penetration please talk to some sapphic trans women about how we have sex with cis women or NB afab people. Cause I assure you that's not usually what happens.

Oh and for any cis women embarking on sexual relationships with trans women, please communicate with your partner/s on what she is most comfortable with or what she wants. All sex requires good communication and consent.

TLDR: Cis women for the love of Sappho, stop thinking that sex with a trans woman is about P in V penetration. Cause there's a high likelihood it's not. And this is for various reasons.
