ONTD shames people for following JKR on twitter by ekitten in GenderCritical

Yeah, I thought there was still a healthy number of gender critical voices left at ONTD these days, but I guess they've been driven away like everywhere else. I rarely visit anymore, but I had wandered in every few months or so and had seen a refreshingly GC attitude in many posts in the past. JKR must have driven them over the edge.

But, it's not surprising, ONTD has always been super lib-femmy. I was a heavy ONTD user during its peak in 2005-2008ish, and not gonna lie, one of the things that drove me away from ONTD and Livejournal fandoms in general was the slowly creeping over-the-top wokeness. It was one of the first places I saw the weird fetishization of homosexuality that has become a hallmark of the TRA movement.

WITS Ireland is bashing "Invisible Woman" for not being "inclusive" of biological males by MezozoicGay in GenderCritical

Went searching for more info on the TRA reaction to this book after following this WITS Ireland thing, and found this from March: https://medium.com/@Siltha1.0/caroline-criado-perez-is-a-terf-35c489e59ad9 Note the denial of biological sex in this article, when "nObOdY iS dEnYiNg BiOlOgIcAl SeX eXiStS!!!"

Honestly, it seems like most of their "problems" with the book are that TRAs had already decided a long time ago that Criado-Perez is terven: https://www.transadvocate.com/et-tu-caroline-criado-perez_n_14058.htm (from 2014).

They really hate women talking about women. It's just so obvious at this point, how can anyone deny it anymore?

So women are just abstract idea.

It's funny, because I've known of so many men who think of women as just a concept instead of actual humans. I've known them in my personal life and read about them in history, humanities, literature, and the news.

It's something that many men who are feminist allies have admitted to having believed in the past, and they usually say they had to work pretty hard to overcome the idea since it's so deeply ingrained in society, in media, etc. We're always the afterthought, the Second Sex, the imperfect man.

It's no wonder TRAs see us the same way.

And the fact that not loving yourself, not having confidence, and choosing elective & unnecessary medicalization aren't exactly the most attractive characteristics in the first place.

Isn't the #1 rule of trying to make yourself more attractive: "Have confidence"?

I've personally found it's true. Someone objectively very physically attractive but with clear personality issues will be far less attractive to me than someone with objectively normal or even "ugly" physical traits but who displays lots of confidence, a great personality, a sense of humor, etc.

They really are digging their own social life graves and it's deeply sad to watch it happen.

The other thing is that the blockers can't be taken indefinitely, it's just used to "kick the can down the road" for a few years.

And yet the BMJ's Journal of Medical Ethics (lol?!?!) are writing hypothetical case studies for non-binary adults who would want to take puberty blockers indefinitely: https://jme.bmj.com/content/early/2020/07/24/medethics-2019-106012

When I started reading that case study, I thought it was about a real person and couldn't believe there hadn't been more fuss over this in GC spaces before. Thankfully it's just a hypothetical case, but the fact that they're writing hypotheticals like this in favor of keeping someone permanently prepubescent is just sickening. "Medical ethics" my toe.

Shrier is by no means as staunchly gender critical as most of us are. She only got into this debate because she noticed the large number of young girls transitioning.

But I'm sure that a lot of it has to do with making sure that she's seen as "fair and balanced," giving "both sides equal time," and all that other nonsense that's frankly unnecessary at this point. There has never been an interest in a "fair and balanced" debate from the TRA side, so why should we be interested in giving them one?

Oh man, the TRAs have already brigaded r/joerogan over this. The comments are a rollercoaster, but also really interesting. Quite a few of what we might consider the more typical "dude bros" are pretty defensive of the GC position and even GC feminists. We see you, bros, and thank you for the support!

Then the TRAs arrived, and some might just be regular old MRAs (who can tell the difference?).

Overall, though, the TRA line is mostly getting downvoted to oblivion over there, which is heartening. Look out, r/joerogan, you're likely next on the list for not capitulating to the New Speak.

If you like period pieces and supernatural-type stuff, I really loved the Italian Netflix series "Luna Nera." It was created, written, and directed entirely by women, and it's based around witches in the 17th century. It's pretty heavily feminist, honestly (which was a common "critique" of the show I saw in various reviews lol), as the plot sort of revolves around the idea that only women can obtain true magic.

It does have some silly teenage romance subplots, fair warning, but I didn't mind them that much. The adult witches and women are fascinating!!! One of the witches is in a relationship with a non-magical woman who is a societal outcast for being somewhat GNC (for the 1600s, at least), and quite of few of them are physically strong as well as magically powerful. There's one antagonist female character (also kind of GNC as she presents as a "warrior") who ends up being one of the more complex and interesting characters in the whole series. I really appreciate that they don't pit women against one another, and a big theme of the show is how women should protect women, no matter which "side" you are on.

In my experience, the ones who have the weird biological fetishes (like the pregnancy fetish here, Yaniv's menstruation fetish, etc.) are typically among the most deluded of the trans-identified. I've seen a lot of these types go on and on about their "period cycles," and especially focusing on PMS because they get an excuse to ~be bitchy~ and eat a lot of cake or whatever lol.

They claim that going on hormones will also give them a "cycle" similar to what women have, just with no bleeding. Except some of them also claim to bleed (which is worrisome, and they should get checked out by a doctor if true...), so who knows?

But, you know, even if the physiological differences weren't there (no womb, no ovaries, etc.), the hormones they take are NOTHING like the complex mixture of hormones in the female body. They take a constant dose of high levels of usually only estrogen, when women's hormone levels fluctuate quite a lot throughout her cycle and is mainly controlled by progesterone.

I've only seen a couple of them claim to be pregnant, so thankfully that delusion hasn't caught on quite yet.

Wow, to have such a front-row seat to Clymer's hot mess!

I only saw it happen from the sidelines, but boy do I remember it. It was around the same time as Hugo Schwyzer's outing, and I think a few others... an avalanche of gross male feminists being outed as gross.

It's positively flabbergasting that Clymer has been welcomed back into the liberal fold just because of the trans shield. It truly proves how common it is for men to try to "erase their pasts" with a trans identity. And how much the general public seem willing to forgive - or just not care to find out? - when it comes to trans people. Reminds me of the horrific saga of Aimee Channelor.

Wow, I didn't know about all that happened to Kimberly Peirce:

Another thing I learned is what happened to Peirce after being invited in 2016 to speak about “Boys Don’t Cry” at Reed College in Oregon. The speech was to take place after a showing of the film. But almost immediately after Peirce tried to begin to speak, student protesters rushed the stage and began screaming and hurling insults and epithets. Signs had been posted aimed at Peirce that read: “Fuck Your Transphobia,” “You Don’t Fucking Get It,” and “Fuck This Cis White Bitch.” For more than two hours, screaming students refused to let Peirce speak and vowed never to let the event happen at Reed. Peirce stood accused of transphobia.

How did the gender nonbinary director of one the most groundbreaking films for trans people ever produced by Hollywood become the violent enemy of these trans activists to the point of being deemed so irremediably evil that Reed students could not hear the event? They accused Peirce of being a profiteer off of trans lives and a privileged “cis woman” for having cast another cis woman, Swank, in the role of Teena, rather than a trans male actor.

. . .

These posters voiced a range of responses to the film including: “You don’t fucking get it!” and “Fuck Your Transphobia!” as well as “Trans Lives Do Not Equal $$” and to cap it all, the sign hung on the podium read: “Fuck this cis white bitch”!! The protestors waited until after the film had screened at Peirce’s request and then entered the auditorium while shouting “Fuck your respectability politics” and yelling over her commentary until Peirce left the room. After establishing some ground rules for a discussion, Peirce came back into the room but the conversation again got out of hand and finally a student yelled at Peirce: “Fuck you scared bitch.” At which point the protestors filed out and Peirce left campus.

Is this really what these privileged assholes think activism is?

We all feel like we're going crazy, you're not alone.

If anything, all of this has really shown just how little women are respected. Perhaps that's why so many people are reacting so viciously when called out? People really really really do not like to be told they are being sexist, racist, classist, etc. It gets their minds churning and causes existential crises. So, they lash out instead of having to face the truth.

For me, one of the most upsetting aspects of this entire debate is how much respect I have lost for so many people who have fallen for this TRA nonsense. Not necessarily those who just parrot "TWAW" or whatever, but the ones who display full-on misogyny and homophobia as if it's the "right thing to do." Every single person who has used a misogynistic slur against JK Rowling or anyone defending her has outed themselves for who they truly are, and I will never forget.

When all of this is over - and it will be over eventually, it just might take thousands upon thousands of lawsuits to happen - do we really think any of these TRA warriors will apologize or even admit their fault? I think no, because they will still be selfish assholes who cannot admit they have ever done any wrong ever. My prediction is that they will claim they were tricked and are victims of the experts/doctors who told them all of this was safe and good, and likely they will also blame women (and LGB supporters) for creating an atmosphere of competition that obfuscated the real problem. Even though the "real problem" is exactly what women and LGB are trying to clarify.

It feels like a futile fight, and we all might end up as the nameless fighters forgotten by history, but we are fighting the good fight. Knowing that is the only thing that keeps me fighting.

Just look at Danielle Muscato or Jake Ally (secretgamergirl on Twitter). Why they pretend is another matter - for clout, for popularity, for attention? I know they are there to brigade, but still... this is a perfect example of why we don't want them in women's spaces, speaking over women, and diminishing the experiences and difficulties women face. Typical men.

Why is Reddit allowing the clear and obvious brigading of every sub ever by the TRAs? This is very obviously a planned and coordinated attack on women's subreddits. Like many of us, I was originally a trans-rights supporter, mostly because of my long background and history with LGB activism. However, back then transwomen were all thought to be gender non-conforming gay men who had transitioned. I had always felt a certain level of comfort around gay men, and was empathetic to transwomen and their experience, so I was totally okay with them being in women's restrooms. The vast majority of transwomen back then were also very much of the belief that they needed to do certain things and look a certain way in order to use women's spaces, and they respected the comfort levels of women. (These are the trans people that TRAs call "truscum" or "transmed.") They asked to be allowed in our spaces and respected us, instead of this new culture of demanding to be let in.

And then came the great reveal of autogynephilia. It was around 2015-2016 that I started to question things here and there. Caitlyn Jenner won "Woman of the Year" after killing someone with his car, and I couldn't help but wonder how a woman would be treated. I thought of Brandy and her automobile accident that essentially ended her career. Then Jenner said that "the hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear." And then I knew that these transwomen were not women in the slightest. They don't understand what it's like to grow up in a female body, being treated like you are less-than simply because of what's between your legs, being treated as stupid, hysterical, weak, being sexualized by gross men as soon as you start developing at around 10-12, periods, pregnancy, the list goes on and on. But figuring out what to wear is what's so hard?!

It was around the same time I learned about "trans lesbians," and that was the real turning point. I didn't really believe it at all, even when I was still play-acting as a trans supporter. How many decades had I seen lesbians be joked about by straight men, saying "I'm a lesbian, too, hur hur"? How was this any different? This was the kind of critical thinking that pushed me away from the trans movement, and eventually I found gender critical feminism about a year or so later... I had found my tribe! I thought for so long that I was the only "liberal" who felt this way, and that the world was going mad, so it was really a breath of fresh air to find all of you wonderful women and other allies.

I truly believe that one of the main problems with trans activism is autogynephilia and straight men who have co-opted the movement. It's made me question the entire ideology of transgenderism, and I now think the entire thing is sexist nonsense because it is. It's based on patriarchal gender roles and expectations of behavior and presentation, and, thinking back to the gay male transwomen I used to be okay with, I now realize it's deeply rooted in internalized homophobia. Even thinking back to the movie "Boys Don't Cry," I realize that I empathized with Teena/Brandon because I could see the struggle she was facing being a butch lesbian in a rural area, so it made sense that she'd "hide" herself as a man. I think it's perfectly okay for anyone to dress or act however they like, but that doesn't mean they are trans-anything.

It's going to be really difficult to win me back over to their side in any capacity at this point, after how women have been treated for the past few years. It will take a lot of apologies, groveling, and public admissions of fault for women to forgive this, if we ever will.

Great resource, thank you for compiling these links!

I wanted to point out (because I was looking for it earlier, what a coincidence!) that this article you listed above about Lupron is an excellent source to point to for those who claim puberty blockers are harmless. The article is about a young woman who was put on Lupron to slow her "early puberty," which has led to a lifetime of debilitating health issues. It's heartbreaking, and the implications are also terrifying for all the children on puberty blockers now.

Been following this since she first announced she was suing Stonewall, and was honestly flabbergasted when the donation page was taken down the first time. Didn't know what a ride we'd be in for... they have clearly taken sides here, which is expressly against their own stated T&C. They allow all kinds of actually questionable campaigns, but this is the one they decide to go after?

The trans community is doing a piss-poor job of hiding just how much power and influence they have, especially in the tech industry. They can't keep pretending to be the ~most oppressed minority~ if they keep pulling stunts like this.

That is so incredibly sad and disheartening. I hope she's on a healthier path now.

It's been a wild ride watching the public opinion of lesbians throughout the past couple of decades. I remember when everyone thought all lesbians were butch! Guess this is what happens when a pornsick culture is so pervasive.

Did you catch this reddit post from just before the ban? "lmao Rhys McKinnon gets absolutely roasted on his annual performance review" by [deleted] in GenderCritical

Just in case anyone is new to Rhys/Rachel/Veronica, Kiwi Farms has a thread on him that is very comprehensive with tons of screenshots, archived links, etc.

This is why they really closed us down, they know more and more people are waking up and that we are talking common sense... by [deleted] in GenderCritical

Yes, and just like back when "they" were trying to ban anyone talking about Yaniv, the banning just got people to talk about it and look into it even more! This will not have the effect they want, it will just kill Reddit even faster.

I've been reading numerous comments on Twitter, Facebook, some imageboards, and even here from people who are just now noticing the whole trans vs. women issue after hearing about ~all those horrible feminist communities getting banned~

They may have dispersed us for now, but we're building back up to be even stronger and more organized than before.

I'm old school and like hardcover books, so still waiting on my delivery - however I have been following a few folks who are reading it on Twitter and they've been posting some disturbing quotes.

Here's the author's Twitter, too: https://twitter.com/abigailshrier

CBC calls gay men, lesbians and bisexuals “non straight cisgender people” by AdultFemaleHuman in GenderCritical

[–]Radfem_the_Hun 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I saw this all over Twitter yesterday, but it still takes a few seconds for my brain to process reading the phrase "non-straight cisgender people." Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?

Also of note: When I saw this being blasted all over Twitter yesterday, the context wasn't clear at first so I went googling for the phrase source. I found a source from April 2019 and from October 2014 (!!!) among a few other more recent/late 2019 sources that also used the phrase.

I don't know about y'all, but I saved a lot of content from all the various GC subs over the years. It's some of the best "evidence" for peaking. Hopefully others also have folders full of saved images, screenshots, links, etc. and we can re-build. I'll start going through mine now!

Help! I have cysts on my internal organs - which ones? You know, my internal organs, just go digging around!

The goalposts are about to get moved right off the edge of the planet.
