It takes time for some (many?) of us because we were never given many opportunities to express ourselves freely and confront our insecurities.

I hope we all could learn something from these HongKong freedom fighters. We need everyone to think like a leader more so than as a follower so that when the need arrives, everyone could work together towards the common good and stand up against any political powers that try to oppress us. Afaik, lacking a good leader means losing the war. We need as many of us as possible to be able to take initiative.

Why is Adult Content Banned from Saidit? by Rastafoo in SaidIt

[–]PikonParadox 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think Sadit's primary concern is to share news and information without being censored by biased mods and admins. Adding in adult content could be more of a liability than an asset. Sooner or later there will grow a grey area where it will become difficult to monitor said adult content and it will bite us in the back and it is not worth the risk.

It may be difficult to find much content in other websites but if we want to switch, we have to stay determined about it. If we never try, and if we stick to YT just because it is more convenient, we end up supporting YT rather than finding an alternative. This is my philosophy. I reduced using YT and i use it only when i cannot find desired content elsewhere.

That's not "commie propaganda", that is the fundamental structure of society that humans have been following since the beginning for the collective good. "You scratch my back, I scratch yours". But of course, you are not obligated to anything. You have free will and you can do whatever you want.

Well, it would work if we were not emotional beings. Emotions are a result of evolution and it is unwise to live on reason alone without emotions balancing it. Emotions discretely try to help us survive by forcing us to want to seek help. Emotions are essential for survival. That being said, I agree with you to an extent. We should keep our emotions in check and not let them influence us to an unreasonable extent.

I own my life, not them.

It's not that simple. We humans are co dependent; we drastically depend on other people for our betterment. If one person dies, it affects all those who were depending on them either directly or indirectly. That being said, your life is still yours. You have free will and you can choose what you want to do with it.

That's not how you interpret it. "Accomplishing a task IN A DIFFERENT MANNER". Take the example of moving from a place to a higher ground. People without legs require a ramp for their wheelchair as opposed to people with legs using stairs. The task is to get to the higher ground but the way it is accomplished is not the same. Does that make sense? It's about using different means for one same (or similar) end.

[–]PikonParadox 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The term "differently abled" is used as a substitute for disabled or handicapped. "Differently abled" emphasizes the fact that many people with disabilities are quite capable of accomplishing a particular task or performing a particular function, only in a manner that is different from people without the disability.

Most critically, the U.S. government has now issued a legal document that formally declares that collaborating with government sources to receive and publish classified documents is no longer regarded by the Justice Department as journalism protected by the First Amendment, but rather as the felony of espionage, one that can send reporters and their editors to prison for decades. It thus represents, by far, the greatest threat to press freedom in the Trump era, if not the last several decades.

I agree, collective punishment is prohibited according to Article 33 of Geneva Convention. However, why does our first go-to option have to be punishment? Positive reinforcement is better than negative reinforcement. We need to educate the people and improve the quality of the Government in order to make the nation better as a collective.

As of the "how to approach/implement" scenario, lets take an example - hate speech-- We need to find the source or origin of this behaviour and change that in people from an early age - like teaching kids to be accepting of all peoples. Similarly, we need to understand the problems in a rational and logical way and deal with it at the origin point to prevent it from happening.

PS: The society has a major influence on how people feel and think on a daily basis. Therefore, society and the Government must be held responsible (not necessarily in a negative way). As another example, if a person is depressed, it is very likely that her depression was caused by external factors more than internal. Therefore, the society (and Government) must be held responsible for her mental health (at least to an extent).

I think the emphasis is on the people who do not do anything to help anyone when there is a need. For example, if you see someone being mugged but you do not help the victim, then you are being neutral. Another similar saying is "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything".

pixel games could be good games

"Pixel art" art style is not as easy as it sounds. If the graphics are relatively lower in quality, the game designers compensate by making the best gameplay experience possible - that is why pixel art games are "good". Large scale publishers focus on both graphics and gameplay but mostly emphasize on graphics because they want the game to look good and realistic - thanks to high-end computers. Console games like Uncharted, Spiderman, RDR2 are relatively more fun because they focus on gameplay experience more than on graphics.

"Is "love"(may without money) making a good game"

There can be many reasons for indies to quit - like not having time or resources or money, etc. More often than not, their objective is to gain experience and launch at least one version of the game, not to make the perfect product (unless they have that kind of time and knowledge)

most of the characters of the game had bipolar disorder

What's wrong with that? They just made a game inspired by a real life thing. Did you know that movies like Beast and Beauty, King Kong, V for Vendetta, etc. highlight Stockholm Syndrome?

you can find many child porn in the fan art of it on Tumblr

How is that the developer's fault?

Thank you. I tried to add color but I could not think of a palette that suits each and all of them while not attracting too much attention to them; and maintain decent overall look of the page.

Yeah, "Points" feels most accurate because it literally means what it is supposed to mean.

Icons would be cool; they convey the message with minimum use of expression.

I made a sample design for the sorting icons: https://imgur.com/OVnrvR4

PS: I don't have commercial license for the software to make them for actual usage.

"New" and "Date" mean the same thing with little to no difference in our context, so I think either one is fine.

"Hot" is already sending the message and it is shorter than "hotness" so it is better to stick to "Hot".

Top/Popular - Some more words we could consider- Votes, Points, Favored, Boosted

"Insightful" is shorter and gets the message across so I think it is better for it to stay.

I change the "sort-by" often and this expanded design is helpful. However, I think it is better for the dotted border to stay because the overall layout is more clear to the eye on first sight that the posts start from there and the "sort" option is a different section. It is clearer for the eye in overall design.

McDonald’s Banned Milkshakes to 'Stop People Throwing Them at Nigel Farage' by Stankmango in Banned

What's the background story? Who is Nigel Farage and why are they throwing specifically milkshakes at him?

You are right, banning things is not always the answer. What we need is to educate common people. For instance, we don't have to ban advertisements despite the paradigm that they are manipulative; we have to teach people to acknowledge that advertisements can manipulate them and teach them not to let advertisements mess with their heads too much.

This could render the advertisements useless because their very purpose is to "convince" people to like the product but, we have to try to make the best situation possible where there is minimum or no harm coming to either party.

Some people don't raise a child right and the rest of the world will condemn the child for growing up to be a bad person. I think you missed my point. It is not about loving people that kill their kids. It is about providing emotional security to people who are going downhill so that they do not end up committing violent things like this.

Times of India, The Hindu - these two newspapers are the most reliable and unbiased english news outlets in India. The Indian Express is also decent and can be trusted. Among the international ones, BBC and Reuters are the most reliable.

PS: I've never heard of RT.

People working in marketing are probably experts in psychology or know how to influence people. We the people are neither experts nor are we aware of how we can be influenced. What we are, is, victims of psychological manipulation. The only control people have is to close their ears and or eyes when an ad is encountered, assuming the people are aware that the ad could potentially manipulate them.

Laws are not the same as ethics. There was a time a lot of things were legal which we now consider illegal; slavery was legal, genocide was legal. Just because something is legal, it does not mean it is right or ethical. I know that what we have now cannot be easily compared with genocide or slavery or rape or whatever but, it still is a big deal.

You can't just say "Wake up people" and expect them to organize or coordinate a perfect mission to justice. What we need is a leader or at least a list of guidelines; most importantly, we need a strong nudge that forces us to do it instead of postponing or lazing around. This problem exists in India- We, the people, want change and we want things to get better but literally nobody is willing to at least go out and protest for a day or even talk to some authority. Everyone is like "eh someone else will do it, I just want to sit at home".

Videogames are probably the last safety net that is stopping psychologically deranged people from reaching out to illegal and unethical things like violence, drugs, suicide, etc. If you see someone being extremely addicted to videogames that they would rage over losing a game, it is very likely that they are just trying to feel like they are achieving something in life (ie when they win in a game) because everything else is falling apart and they want to feel like they have some control. If you see someone addicted to games, don't hate them, give them love, they need to feel loved. They need love (probably therapy too)
