Not only was capital introduced

Capital was only introduced to those that had significant bargaining power in industry.

schools

To my knowledge there hasn't even been any significant effort to build schools in africa until the late 1900s.

law and order

Whatever law has been introduced doesn't seem to be quite effective. Much of africa is either what is essentially a warzone or complete slums. What law exactly do you think the colonizers of africa have introduced that is so worthwhile?

And what was exploited? Resources that Africans had very little, if any, historical interest in.

But those resources are still valuable, and not other's to exploit. If africa had ever previously possessed the means to mine and export the resources they have in abundance I don't think they'd be anywhere near the state they are currently in.

Left to their own, without outside influence to abate them. Blacks invariably regress back to a more disorganized tribal structure while destroying every advancement given to them.

You better have a hefty citation on this one. Because the history you're trying to point to does not support this premise at all

now that they have taken on the burdensome task of trying to rebuild the infrastructure in Africa that Europeans have long since abandoned

The Belt and Road initiative functions by burdening africa with mounds of debt that it will never fully climb out of while china rapes their nation. The Belt and Road Initiative will only ever benefit China, as they have all the power to control and manipulate any deals struck as well as not truly caring about any regulations. If it is not already common knowledge to you that China loves to skirt around and violate regulation I would be more than happy to post some highlights.

Very interesting documentary

I've already watched Empire of Dust. Its just a movie about China abusing the laborers of africa. Or atleast thats what I took from it.

Let's talk about successful black areas and countries.

Can you name a single black city or country that hasn't been actively destroyed by outside forces? The continent of africa has been exploited for centuries by extremely wealthy powers, so it would be unfair to discuss africa in comparison to other nations. You can't really compare black-majority american cities to white-majority american cities because white-majority people often have some higher degree of generational wealth and additionally don't have to and have never had to deal with systemic discrimination to any real degree.

So what country or city would you like to discuss that would in any capacity be a fair comparison? Because I can't think of a single one.

In person, when you want to say something politely, you say it less efficiently. You “make an extra effort,” says linguist Gretchen McCulloch in her book Because Internet, “using hedges, honorifics, or simply more words: ‘Doctor, could I possibly trouble you to open the window?’ versus ‘Open the window!’” Online, you do the same, with different tactics.

This makes sense and seems to line up with how I've observed people speaking, and I'd imagine that it lines up with the past hundred or so years of speaking patterns. Why exactly are you so worked up over the article?

If nobody else applies I'd be willing to be a temp mod for the sub. I visit saidit daily so there'd be no issue with the sub going unchecked. I'm not too knowledge about keyboards so I wouldn't really post much though. Beyond that I think I'm a pretty decent mod; I follow a sub's rules pretty closely and enforce them as written, and I don't believe in removing or banning people for any reason other than breaking rules (obviously including saidit rules and the PoD).

I'd prefer not to mod the discord but I do have experience with discord moderation if you need one.

Whiskey Warrior’s 7 hour Standoff With NY Police Over Red-Flag Laws Ends Without Violence by MassTooter in politics

[–]Otacon 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The Carmel Police Department said that Booth was subsequently arraigned on multiple charges related to incidents connected to a past domestic incident involving his wife. Booth was wanted on a felony warrant issued by Thomas Jacobellis charging him with second-degree burglary, a felony, and several misdemeanors, including criminal trespass, criminal contempt, aggravated harassment and petit larceny. Booth is not facing any charges in relation to the standoff. His arraignment was held at Carmel Town Justice Court. Source

Police came for a domestic and he got red-flagged over it. Red-flag laws and their implementation has been a nightmare so far, and every officer responsible for helping enforce them has blood on their hands, but I'm not sure if this guy is entirely worth defending.

Also, I'll add a disclaimer that none of the news sites directly link to any kind of police report, and the scheduled confrence the police are holding on the matter isn't till tomorrow at 1. The police have also stated on their FB that the event was not a matter of red flag laws, but I'm not sure exactly how much weight that statement holds.

Mr Booth was charged w/ Burglary 2nd degree, Criminal Trespass misdemeanor, Criminal Contempt misdemeanor, Aggravated Assault 2nd degree class A misdemeanor, Petit Larceny class A misdemeanor.

From the twitter thread reporting the incident.

So they show up a few hours before the red flag call because of a domestic, they come back again for the red flag call, he threatens the police, and then gets arrested on what looks to me to be unrelated charges. So either the guy is nuts (and or drunk, according to the twitter report), or the police are pulling something. I do wonder why so many people showed up though

South Carolina wants to ban lifesaving medical treatments for trans kids, up to and including antidepressants by Otacon in politics

[–]Otacon[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Antidepressants reduce/treat depressive symptoms, some of those symptoms are suicidal thoughts, suicidal ideation, or suicidal tendencies. People kill themselves all the time because of depression. Antidepressants aren't magic no-suicide pills, nor did I ever imply that they were, but if it alleviates depression then by alleviating depression it would prevent suicide in sone capacity. Obviously it isn't always effective.

Even if you have issues with antidepressants, the bill prohibits ANY medical treatment designed to "alleviate symptoms of clinically significant distress resulting from gender dysphoria". That clearly means forcing affected teens to suffer in silence and whatever comes from that. Trans teens already have high rates of suicide and suicide attempts. I don't think banning at-risk teens and kids from getting any kind of medical help is a great idea

Kids with depression are on antidepressants. It's wonderful that you didn't have any issues growing up but there are some children who have mental issues, and they've always existed, and those children need treatment.

Dude you're fucking sick.

How about antidepressants to prevent suicide and such? The bill directly bans any treatment to "alleviate symptoms of clinically significant distress resulting from gender dysphoria", which would mean that even simple things like antidepressants to help with depressive symptoms caused by dysphoria would be banned.

The act also includes a number of provisions that would seek to undo the historical damage wrought by the failed “War on Drugs,” including injecting grants and funding into those communities which faced the most damage from the prohibitionist campaign. States would also be incentivized to expunge the criminal records of low-level cannabis offenders, removing a barrier that often bars access to employment and housing. The legislation would also provide for re-sentencing and block federal agencies from denying public benefits and security clearances over past cannabis convictions, while immigrants would no longer be denied citizenship over marijuana. The Small Business Administration would also support entrepreneurs and businesses who are trying to gain a foothold in the fast-emerging and profitable legal cannabis industry.

This thing could be huge if it goes through. Who knows what kind of impact that would have

While I'm not keen on middle schoolers handing cloth breasts or penises, as the outlet claims to happen in a clip they they miraculously fail to link, I'm unsure where this idea comes from that you can confuse or convince children into becoming gay or trans. Outside of an obsessed parent pressuring and pushing their child to do things they don't want to do, a middle schooler isn't going to become gay if they're told that sexuality is a spectrum and that you can figure it out over time. If LGBT people can't be converted out of being LGBT, then it should follow that Non-LGBT can't be converted into being LGBT.
