Good article. I've never heard of the author--John W. Whitehead. Maybe I'll give a listen to his podcast.

Yeah, it's kind of funny when I listen to people who have pensions talking about how they need to work another 5 years in order to get...blah, blah, blah. And they're sitting on houses that they own outright. And they've got 401k plans, and other investments.
They've got it made and really don't realize it.
Its also funny listening to corporate media mouthpieces yapping on and on about how you have to put away such and such an amount of money if you're whatever age in order to have enough money to retire.
And most (not just half, who are we kidding), have less than nothing to retire on. Death is my retirement plan.
And most of us don't have "extra" money to put aside. Recently, when reviewing my budget, I was considering not having a phone at all. At this point, I'm just struggling to keep it together week to week. And I probably don't even realize how good I have it compared to plenty of other people.
N.J. gave 500 undocumented immigrants tuition money. Here’s where they are going to college. by dcjogger in news
This is another example of why people don't open their arms wide to illegal immigrants. Times are hard. People are struggling. Our governments (both state and local) tax us more and more as we get less and less in exchange. This N.J. tuition giveaway is a drop in the bucket compared to the tax dollars spent on our non-stop wars. It's nothing compared to the tax breaks given to multi-national corporations that move jobs out of the U.S. But this N.J. tax giveaway is so stark, it is such a slap in the face to average citizens, that I really have to wonder why it happens?
Maybe its a relatively "cheap" distraction. We get righteously (and rightfully) indignant about it. And while we think about this, we don't think about the non-stop wars and the subsidized multinational corporations, or any of the other ways that these monsters (on both the right and the left) steal from us every day.
Parallel construction - an bent law enforcement process building separate evidentiary basis concealing how criminal investigations actually begin. Evidence laundering occurs when a crooked cop unreasonably obtains evidence then passes it to another officer who in good-faith presents it to the court. by JasonCarswell in PoliceMisconduct

Unconditional Basic Income as the Social Vaccine of the 21st Century: It’s less costly to avoid problems from ever happening, than it is to fix problems once they do. It also happens to be the entire logic behind the vaccine, and its my belief that unconditional basic income has the same potential. by Orangutan in WorldNews

So now it's not Universal Basic Income, now the marketing is Unconditional Basic Income. OK, well there's no way it will be unconditional. If the government is distributing it, there will be conditions. And that means the government will wield its power.
If UBI is electronic direct deposit, then they can easily punish any dissent by switching it off. You said it yourself in the title of your post "It's less costly to avoid problems from ever happening, than it is to fix problems once they do." Here, "problems" could easily translate to revolution. Just pay off the masses with UBI, and silence dissenters by turning off the spigot. Sounds great.
