I am just going to say that I got one person to agree to someone disclosing racial backgrounds and biological sex before having sex. That same person also didn't care about someone finding a "barely legal" partner.

For me, there is a rule that I think is a good idea: "ask or disclose". If the majority of people in the world would not have sex with a transgender person, Person 1 must disclose to Person 2 that they are transgender. If it is a minority instead, Person 2 must ask Person 1 if they are transgender. Repeat for other characteristics. This doesn't necessarily have to be set at 50%—it could also be 30% or 70%.

[–]OffAndSphere 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

yo, it's me from the discord server! sup "worried19"! here are some non-ideological reasons for the lack of activity

Saidit/post-comment systems are NOT good for debate. Not only are response times massive (which means it's not good for reaching a consensus fast), what usually ends up happening is that people end up hyper-focusing on a single insult in a post and ignoring the actual argument (although this subsaidit has gotten better with that last time I checked). People also tend to not remember each user from separate debates (although this is probably bias on my part), leading to them to be more likely to diss them in the first place instead of remembering that there is a human behind the screen, and jokes are harder to throw in to break up tension, as the expected comment length is much longer than Discord, making punchy, "chill out a little there" lines trickier to pull off.

Also, the lack of downvotes does not mitigate the existence of upvotes, and as such result in the top posts being biased towards brief, "the answer is quite simple" responses. This is because people usually don't want to read the entire comment section of a post, so they upvote the top posts (which are usually well-written, to give credit to them), creating a large gap between the top posts and the bottom ones. This is a debate space: even if the answer is simple and correct, I think we need to explore WHY it is simple and correct.

I still don't think it's that big of a deal if some people don't want to be your friends because you don't want to use their preferred pronouns, although the problem of people going to extreme lengths just to try and get a someone to refer to them with one more or less letter in a pronoun should still be addressed. At the end of the day, pronouns are just words that are used to refer to someone; they're not even referring to someone as bad (i.e., piece of sh*t) or good (i.e., awesome person), and the reason why someone decided to create pronouns based on sex seems to be nonexistent.

Whoops, I should have added on to the fact that social stigma is as far as it should go—companies shouldn't be allowed to fire someone for not using preferred pronouns, nor should someone be threatened for it.

If everyone starts using the word "blanket" to mean "door", and I refuse to do it and keep using those words in the way they have always been used, do I deserve to be stigmatized?

I can't come up with a good answer for this. It's already weird that there's a group of people that are basically saying "use my preferred pronouns or I'll kill myself". If this were to really happen, it would be a super strange apocalyptic scenario.

Why do you base sex on reproductive capabilities, rather than reproductive class? Do you think prepubescent adolescents don’t have a sex?

Good point. I just realized that someone taking drugs for infertility would quickly change between two sexes if they frequently forgot to take it. And yes, I believe that prepubescent adolescents would be in the same category as infertile people.

And do women who’ve gone through menopause lose their sex? If yes, why?

They would be in the same category as infertile people because they wouldn't be able to reproduce which I—remember, I, not everyone else—believe should be what determines sex.

However, this system that I came up with which occasionally beats the current system in providing a definite answer for people with parts of both reproductive systems greatly struggles at differentiating between people who probably wouldn't be able to reproduce in their entire life (people born without a reproductive system or some other crazy thing) and people who just haven't entered puberty yet. This is why I think having scientists check to see what sex a human would be in the future (for kids), and what sexes someone was in the past (for women who already went through menopause).

This doesn't mean that the old system will be useless—even though the article seemed like it was trying to use the excuse that most people aren't biologists to blur the line between male and female, there is still some truth in that statement. Female-only rape shelters would probably be better off if whoever was managing them didn't have to deal with edge cases. In my opinion, it would probably be best if sex-segregated spaces discriminated with the current sex classification system since that's what everyone's used to from socialization and that it's hard to account for less than ~1% of the population unless you're a scientist.

GC: This article explains well that even if there are only two sexes, and not many sexes, or a continuum of sexes, "trans men are men, and trans women are women", do you have any arguments against the things said in this article? What are your arguments? by Not_a_celebrity in GCdebatesQT

[–]OffAndSphere 2 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

In my opinion, transgender people that have undergone sex reassignment surgery aren't either sex—they would be put in the same category as infertile people, as both cannot reproduce with fertile males and females. I guess there technically is a continuum of sexes, as you're more likely to hit the infertility line with less testosterone and vice versa, but I don't think it would be as complex as this. Some things like males being taller than females have no connection to sex right now. This could be because we haven't discovered any connections yet, or it could be because there really are no connections.

Assuming—and emphasis on assuming (please clarify if I assumed incorrectly)—your central point is "trans men are men, and trans women are women", I disagree, because they haven't changed reproductive capabilities—which is what I believe primarily defines sex. The exception to this would be changing reproductive capabilities to infertility via SRS which still doesn't count as male or female in my opinion, if we are only talking about biological definitions.

Even if we looked at how other people see transgender people—actually, it's pretty likely that people will think a transgender woman is female if she looks feminine enough. This is just because most people don't want to check genitalia to confirm the sex of someone, and they'll just spit out whatever pronoun they want to use to refer to someone, since pronouns are just parts of speech, after all. I believe that everyone should try to use preferred pronouns, but there should be no stigma around constantly failing to use someone's preferred pronoun, as long as they are trying to.

You know, I've been wanting to share another opinion: There are three human sexes(in general); and possibly a fourth. It's based on your ability to reproduce with what sex and what sex cells you can produce. Currently, we have people that make sperm cells, egg cells, or neither, but there hasn't been anyone that can produce both. Even if they would produce both, they would have to produce fertile versions of the cells, and also carry a baby for nine months in the already crowded internal cavity the two reproductive systems would be in and deliver it with no problems in the baby.

Also, I'm impressed that asexuality managed to get approval from the "factual" side of the LGBT+ community despite being pretty late to the alphabet soup of the acronym.

I feel like you dismissing the links as anecdotal while not wanting a source longer than 15 pages is self-contradictory.

I have seen one study that was that length before. Ironically, I am using anecdotal evidence to support my case here. I still don't see how reading time has anything to do with whether an experiment was done in an controlled environment or not.

There are not so many variables, a few discrete sets of behavior seem readily discernible.

You did not bring up any evidence that "There are not so many variables"; Even a singular independent variable can produce a varying array of results, so what is considered "not so many variables" would probably not be above five. It may seem "readily discernible", but there have been lots of things that seemed like they were true but weren't(i.e.: the sun was thought to have revolved around the earth once). Ironically—again—I am using deductive reasoning and anecdotal evidence instead of bringing up evidence gathered with controlled variables and constants.

Anyone trying to do any study objectively on any of these issues is "cancelled" and set up by a mob of trans activists and often doxxed if not threatened directly with violence.

I deduce that the lack of studies holding even the possibility of a morsel of opposition to the transgender community are a symptom of the frenzied cancelling. Ironically—yet again—I have used evidence that wasn't gathered with controlled variables and constants.

Since we're not getting anywhere with transgender violence(violence caused by transgender people, not violence inflicted towards transgender people, Google), let's jump back to my original comment.

and then you've got the idiots who decide to send threats to trans people anyway

Technically, by sheer probability, this statement would probably be true, because there is an infinitesimally small chance that out of the 7.8 billion people, there wouldn't be at least two people who oppose the transgender movement and send threats to transgender people. However, the purpose of the comment was to make a relatable quip that took you a few seconds to understand. Obviously, posting that comment in a subsaidit in support of gender critical feminism would barely have anyone get the gag. Plus, there's not any studies about it, and it's not too on-topic.

Here's an example of a good joke: "violence caused by transgender people, not violence inflicted towards transgender people, Google". You can easily search up evidence—in a sort of meta-like way—by searching up variations of the phrase "violence caused by transgender people", and keep getting results about violence inflicted towards transgender people.

[–]OffAndSphere 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There's so many variables at play for this topic that even empirical evidence struggles at making a point. Even in cases where there aren't that many variables, usually there are still far too many for anecdotal evidence to work well. Both of the sources you linked are essentially piles of anecdotal evidence—albeit quite large piles of anecdotal evidence, but still piles of anecdotal evidence nonetheless. A notable variable that plays into this is the amount of people collecting information about threats—there's obviously going to be more evidence against one side if the other side is more competent at collecting evidence.

I'd like to have a journal, survey, or study on the rates of transgender people's misdeeds, but I don't want to spend forever reading something to have a discussion on the Internet, so I'd prefer if the source was no longer than 15 pages, unless it has larger than usual text. Normally, I'd look it up, but I don't think Google or any other search engines will bring me to anything useful.

Yeah, as much as I hate to say it, I'm gonna need to elaborate more on how "TRAs and TERFs are two authoritarian leftist factions who deserve each other.". I'll elaborate on my original post, too: When radical feminists talk about how transgender people are just mentally ill freaks that want to get into women's spaces which would be bad for women that have PTSD or something of the sort from sexual assault, they don't mention that PTSD is also a mental disorder and would probably cause the same women to peg normal interactions with people that just happen to male to have a much higher risk of rape than they actually would have.

Y'know, "optional moderation" sounds a lot like adding downvotes back. If a decent majority—let's say 95%+—just decides to trust all moderators to filter their content for them, there's not much that people with controversial opinions can do about it. Kinda like how a lot of Redditors just sort by top because they want to see witty, concise comments, giving those comments more chances at getting upvoted because the focus is piled on them. They don't really have anything against controversial opinions, but they just don't want to see them.

You know, I'm getting an existential crisis over optional moderation, as stupid as that sounds. It sounds so ingenious, but it essentially reduces forums down to a platform where you can choose what content you get to see. It feels uncannily similar not being able to protest right up in someone's face, despite the fact that I don't even know what you look like.

That being said, optional moderation still has its merits. Yes, even though you've been commenting about optional moderation on basically every post. You know longer have to take lots of classes in web design or pore hours over YouTube tutorials to create an alternative online platform where you don't have to deal with other people's rules. Also, it seems like there could be factions of moderators assigned to one specific annoyance, like removing the downright infuriating "go back to Reddit" one-liners that keep popping up on posts talking about carefully increasing moderation in areas to reduce content like the "go back to Reddit" one-liners.

I want your feedback about what I said about optional moderation, still. You've gotten really good at getting your point across; when I read your first post about optional moderation, I had absolutely no idea what you were trying to suggest.

Well, assuming that those facts are true, anal sex would obviously cause health problems. I have no idea why lesbains would have an obesity issue, though.

Taki’s Magazine is quite biased towards the right and has a mixed record with fact checkers. Your other source is locked behind a subscription fee. Even so, "99.8% of lesbian, gay and bisexual teens will change their sexual orientation within 13 years" is very good evidence against the LGBT community, but the cause of the change could be due to being afraid of getting beat up for it or lots of other factors, because correlation almost never equals causation unless proven otherwise with causal networks.

Technically, altering the body is a "solution". Kind of like how some "solutions" for horrible diseases only increase the person's lifespan by a couple of years. Therapy is another solution, but most pre-operation transgender people are too reluctant to try it because not many people have gone down that route. I'm sure there are a pile of scientists trying to find more "solutions" to gender dysphoria, but it's a mental illness, and those are impossible to cure. This is because it can come back after a while after the person has seemingly recovered from it.

We do already take some special procedures in public for existing mental illnesses like schizophrenia, so I think using preferred pronouns are quite mild compared to needing to convince someone that Dr. Zomboss isn't going to attack Earth the next month.

That, and the fact that the more "modifiers" you add to a subreddit, the slower it grows.

r/WoW had World of Warcraft as a topic. r/classicwow had World of Warcraft as a modifier too, but it was also focused on the classic version—another topic modifier. Even though r/WoW technically had a modifier of only focusing on the new WoW, it was created eight years earlier and had more time to grow, so it had a massive head start in members when r/classicwow was created, bottlenecking the growth of the second sub.

settle for post-modern shades of gray

What do you mean by this?

Things that harm society at large should be forbidden.

I do not see how homosexuality would be bad. The underpopulation problem is virtually—no, I'm confident enough that it is entirely nonexistent. I'm not sure if anything else would be a problem. The transgender shenanigans reveal two solutions: change the body to fit the mind, or change the mind to fit the body. Society is currently going down the latter of the two paths which I have no arguments on whether that is good or bad currently.

Well, if we're going to have a discussion, I'd like to diss this meme for being a thinly veiled insult voice my opinion in detail on why I think this meme is bad. With that being said, I am much more stringent on what is considered a decent meme than most people. Also, this is not what I think makes a meme go viral; it's what I think makes a meme decent.

Text should be kept to a minimum—or at least be concise—which this meme succeeds at. However, it fails at being relatable, mainly because transgender people could look pretty close the sex/gender they're transitioning to, or it could be the complete opposite. Insults can be useful in comedy, but they need to be accompanied by something else. This meme is essentially just an insult but in image form. At least we're getting some good discussion out of this.

Characteristics pertaining to sex have different levels of correlation. For example, women living longer and being weaker and shorter than men is less correlated to sex than pregnancy is. The differences in how the sexes feel emotion are even less correlated to sex than lifespan is.

The sun was also thought to have revolved around Earth in the past.

Life can find clever ways to survive, such as how people with one sickle cell gene have extra resistance to malaria. Homosexuality is also found in other animal species. It appears to mainly to exist to carry genes beneficial in one sex and arouse organisms to mate more. There's also homosexuals adopting offspring who lost their parents, but I couldn't find any sources for this.

If hedonism is bad, then that means riding roller coasters and drinking alcohol are on the chopping block, as well as anything remotely risky that is done mainly for pleasure. "moral decay" is subjective, as morality is in general.

[–]OffAndSphere 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The problem I have with this meme is that it's basically a code-word for everyone to laugh at transgender people for not looking like the sex/gender they're trying to transition to. I agree with the whole "'i wouldn't date you' is not an insult" thing, though.

"all but most people claiming it's transphobic for lesbians to not date trans women are talking about trans women who fully transitioned and have a vagina and are basically indistinguishable for normal women" does not have anything backing up it's claim other than anecdotal evidence. Even so, some people still don't want to date transgender people because dating is just a way of finding someone to have sex with in most cases, and you're allowed to pick who you want to have sex with. All of this is no excuse to insult transgender people, though.

[–]OffAndSphere 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree with your position a little. There are definitely some transgender people that fit into the stereotype that was mentioned above, but there is no empirical evidence supporting that most transgender people fit into the stereotype, and it seems impossible to conduct an experiment on this sort of thing while accounting for all the variables and constants.

The definition of self-respect just means you generally like yourself, mostly regardless of your actions. Decency is also not objectively good, as it was considered decent to not be homosexual in the 1900s.

"demon possession" and "sick demonic agenda" are vague terms. The basic definition of demon is "evil spirit". Spirits do not exist in the real world, and evil is subjective.

Just because I wouldn't date them does not give everyone the right to insult them, even by implying so. Think of that kid that was absolutely, 100%-without-a-doubt ugly back in elementary school. Did everyone call them ugly? No. Did some people laugh at them when they tried to ask someone out in senior high school? Probably, but the staff would take action if it got out of hand.

Not really "stolen". The problem is, if a sub was talking about apples—let's say it's called s/apples, and it didn't allow negativity towards them, some people might want to create a sub that talks about the pros and cons about apples. Let's say they wanted to call it s/appleDiscussion. The trouble is advertising that sub because most people would just give up looking for a subreddit named like that after not being able to post negativity about apples on s/apples, making it hard to grow a sub like that.

I mainly spent most of my time on r/TrollGC, but from some r/LGBDropTheT comments, it appears that r/GenderCritical wasn't all "fluffy happiness" and that it had a lot more in common than the community would like to admit with the "TRA's" that they hated a lot. I kind of started realizing that GC culture was basically the inverse of the "kill all TERF's" culture to an extent a few months before the massive banwave happened.

If the administrators aren't overwhelmed by the amount of reports, I think that the lgbt subsaidit will be fine, as name-calling is pretty low on the pyramid of debate. If the administrators aren't overwhelmed by the amount of reports.

One problem that happened sometimes in Reddit was that when you created a subreddit for a topic that already had a lot of subreddits that didn't really allow neutral discussion, you could barely get anyone to join. This seems like it could be even worse on Saidit because it explicitly tells everyone that they can make subsaidits that don't allow opposing opinions, and there doesn't seem to be a way to effectively advertise a subsaidit.
