It's two different groups now.

There's "truscum" or transmeds who believe you need gender dysphoria to be trans, and that's the only reason anyone should consider transition.

And then there's the modern TQ+ movement filled with "tucutes", "transtrenders", and any possible letter/name/identity they make up and want to include. They shun truscum as evil bootlicking gatekeepers.

There is a crazy amount of spam bots and trolls that attack this site constantly.

As annoying as it is to have to deal with the ramped-up Cloudflare shit, I appreciate it. Instead of spending 40 minutes reporting spam assholes and then leaving without doing anything else, I spend maybe 5 minutes, and then can move along to actually read what other real people are sharing.

If I spend 40 minutes reporting spam, I won't contribute to this site since I'm burned out. If I spend 5 minutes, and then can read what real people share, I may actually contribute in comments and help keep the site alive.

So I was just made a moderator of this Saidit sub and another. While I HATE the idea of "Reddit mods," I am not like them and just spent the last 20 minutes removing a year's worth of spam on here. If you have any issues with this sub, let me know and I'll try to fix them, if I can. by Mcheetah in SaidIt

Thank you for getting rid of the massive amounts of spam in this sub, really appreciate it!

While I understand your hesitation to remove Ike's contributions since it's engagement, what he shares has absolutely nothing to do with the purpose of this sub.

This sub is not meant to be a catch-all for user opinions and voices, that's s/whatever and many others. This sub is supposed to be about SaidIt as a website, where admins and users can contribute and engage together about it specifically.

I have no problem reading what Ike shares elsewhere, but it's not OK here. I am here looking for information about SaidIt in this sub, like the description says.

IMO you are making the wrong choice in this particular area. I will respect your decision to not do anything about it, but I will also say I think it's incorrect.

We welcome newcomers and like-minded people to our community, you just have to start in the comments instead of representing us immediately by sharing on our behalf.

This sub is in a downslope of engagement at the moment and that's OK. LGB "Drop The T" will persist and remain a space for our people, whether we are 5 or 50,000 strong.

You're a 20 day old account reacting to 6 month old comment on a nearly 2 year old post. Our sub has been here 4+ years and experienced quite a lot that you're not aware of. Your advice may be good-intentioned, but we (and even SaidIt as a whole) are well past it.

It's the spam that gets to me. It's annoying to have to click through Cloudflare to verify, but if it helps keep the site afloat, I'll just deal with it.

But the obnoxious amount of spam is the worst. I spend more time reporting it than actually browsing the site or reading posts anymore. That's going to kill our growth more than anything, no one new will want to try out a site infested with spam bots.

The admins are removing spam, I can see that in modlogs, but the fact they can't ban or shadowban the accounts is frustrating.

A little bird flew into the office at work when someone left the door open, I think it was a baby blue jay. We all tried to gently catch it and/or shoo it back towards the door. Poor little guy was super scared and tucking into himself and puffing his feathers out ... but he also did the beak behavior and growling. I've never seen that before!

LGB people aren't a huge presence on the site, and SaidIt as a whole is pretty small as it is. Combine that with the 90-9-1 rule for social media, and we end up with LGB subs that are just kinda floating along with very small pockets of activity.

This sub was also closed for a long time, so I'm sure that didn't help things either.

There have been very few subs removed from s/all by SaidIt Admins over the years. The majority which are not on s/all are purposely doing it, so they can mod the sub as they prefer.

[–]NutterButterFlutter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I honestly dont think most real-life trans people are a part of the agenda.

There are going to be the fakers and band-wagoners, of course, and those people are the ones who make things difficult for everyone ... but I think most real trans people are more transmed/truscum and just trying to live their lives with a debilitating mental illness (dysphoria), and hope people will treat them with kindness and decency. AGPs trigger a deep instinctual unease in most people, even if they bury their heads in the sand and ignore it to make themselves feel better.

I think the internet exploded into social media for regular people, and propoganda for the ruling class. It's made everything feel a lot more extreme than it really is. It has definitely made me side-eye a lot more though, and be cautious about who I interact with and how.

[–]NutterButterFlutter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Whenever you report a post, it gets automatically "hidden". So it's out-of-sight, out-of-mind for you at least. But it still exists until it gets removed, either by a sub mod or a site admin. I semi-regularly try to help out by going to all/new and reporting too, so you're not alone in that.

Seeing some of the same names for months though is pretty frustrating, there has got to be another solution. If Automoderator exists for subs and can shadowban or auto-report, can't something like that be utilized for the site as a whole?

Won't anyone think of the women who want to be men, though? (top 2 comment threads)

It's a funny little switch to me. It's clearly more propaganda and astroturfing. They are realizing they are losing the war with "trans women are women" and are beginning to try to rise up with "trans men are men" since they think actual women hold more power.

They have no idea of the hellfire that will reign down upon them and everyone else with this approach. If anyone thought patriarchy was bad before, woooo ... it's going to get really bad and ugly.

As far as AI/bot content on Reddit, it's become much worse since the API changes. A lot of real people who were contributing content or moderating have left the site. So all the fake posts and comments continue to exist and be played off of. There's no one left to keep astroturfing out except those who believe in it and are supported by the admins who also believe in it.

It's literally the only way they can spew their garbage propaganda onto unsuspecting users and feel justified that their position is correct. They cannot and will not discuss on the site/forum itself because their views are so retarded that they get banned as soon as they speak up.

Please, keep chat alive. Let them all congregate and shit all over each other there. Meanwhile, the rest of us go about our days being rational and accepting of each other, even when our outlooks differ.

The only thing I would recommend is do not let Chat spill out onto any sub. There are 2 subs that technically allow conversation about anything - so that would include Chat drama. Cancerous users take advantage of it to steer the direction of the site.

I like to try all sorts of things really! Snack foods, traditional meals, soups and stews, sides. Sometimes I even experiment with baking, thats really my worst area though. It's a fun excuse to get people together and socialize without having to deal with crowds and the public :)

One of my favorites is a 3 bean salad, I don't know if its considered cooking since there is no actual "cook" involved. It takes maybe an hour to prep before refrigerating overnight, and makes a ton so it works well as a side dish for several days or something to bring to a potluck. I'm also a big fan of crockpot recipes.

I really want to try a beef or pork roll sometime, I can't remember what they are called except "roll", haha. Oh wait, wellington? Anyway I need an excuse to make something so grand and practice a recipe or two and make adjustments before I give it to a crowd.

I don't have any traditions anymore since I am away from family and the circumstances I grew up in. It's just me and roomies doing what we do every day.

But I REALLY do love Autumn/Fall season. I like how the leaves change on the trees and all the colors. I like the fog that rolls in overnight and in the morning, and how the air feels crisp and new every day. I like the smell of drifting smoke in the early morning from fireplaces that have gone out.

I have been experimenting with cooking over the past year or two, and this is the season where I can start doing it again in bulk - for coworkers or roomies. People like to settle in during this season. I hope everyone around me do have some traditions so I can participate. I can only bring food and support, and I want to help.

What is with all the daily SPAM posts that nobody bans? I block 5 to 10 new accounts every day so I don't see them. And how about the porn posts? I report them and nothing happens. by IkeConn in AskSaidIt

[–]NutterButterFlutter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I can't speak to why the spam isn't caught up-front, but I can say I've reported well over 100 spam posts in the past few days. I report as the SaidIt spam rule rather than a sub, so admins can see it and do something about the accounts instead of it flying under the radar within a sub and to mods.

I don't understand why the spammers aren't banned/shadowbanned by admins. Why let them continue to exist and shit up the front page? Why is it on mods or users to block them instead of the site curators?

Article: Queerness should be taught in pre-school not teaching sexuality to kids this young is a very white middle class thing to do. by PriestTheyCalledHim in LGBDropTheT

It's pedos drawing on current western activism and media narratives to try to establish a foothold and become accepted. They twist and reframe the arguments against themselves into half-truths or no truth at all - then they fall back on activism narratives to keep people riled up so they will ignore the implications of what the pedos are promoting.

Briefly, ignore the dog-whistles about race and class. Ignore the trigger words about innocence or religion. Even ignore the LGB/queer/hetero/cis/gender stuff.

Remember, those are all activism narratives being used, so take those completely unrelated topics out of the conversation. What remains?

Adults trying to normalize sex to pre-pubescent children.

I hate articles that force you to look at pictures and tags and ads, and click through just to read what could have been summed up in a single paragraph. Too much of a forced narrative/direction, especially with stock photos designed to appeal to certain emotions. It feels click-baity and purposeful to dumb down readers.

For everyone else who hates it too, here's the text on the slides:

“Queerness” Should Be Taught in Pre-School, Not Teaching Sexuality Is Seen as a “Very White, Middle Class” Thing to Do
Story by S.Salmaan

1) “Queerness” Should Be Taught in Pre-School, Not Teaching Sexuality Is Seen as a “Very White, Middle Class” Thing to Do: A preschool teacher in California was slammed after challenging the notion of “childhood innocence” and advocating for discussing typically sensitive topics with young children. Here’s the full story.

2) The Controversial Argument: William “Willy” Villalpando, the center of this controversy, has argued that certain subjects considered “inappropriate,” including queerness and gender identity, can be appropriately introduced to pre-K age children.

3) His View On “Childhood Innocence”: Villalpando, an educator associated with Trapp Preschool in the Rialto Unified School District, says that the concept of “childhood innocence” is a myth that does not align with the reality of children’s experiences.

4) Not Effective: In a society where information is easily accessible and children are exposed to diverse perspectives, he argues that shielding them from certain topics may not be as effective as fostering open dialogues that address their natural curiosity.

5) Children Are Experiencing These Topics Already: He said, “There is a common mythology that children live in this world of pure innocence, and that introducing or exposing them to real-world adults is somehow shattering this illusion for them. Therefore, there is a banning of topics and issues that children should not be exposed to, as if they are not experiencing them already.”

6) It’s Vital: Central to Villalpando’s beliefs is his advocacy for introducing discussions about gender and sexuality to preschool children. He said, “Children experience gender and race every day. They need (and deserve) [to see] themselves to feel seen, and them to see others not like them.”

7) Educators’ Responsibility: Villalpando emphasized that children should see themselves in the classroom, and educators have a responsibility to ensure that children’s identities and experiences are acknowledged.

8) Not Exposing Children to Sexuality Is Very White: He argued that the idea of children not being exposed to “sexuality,” is “a view that is very white, Christian, upper-class, cis-gendered, and hetero-centric.”

9) Critics Slammed Him: However, his viewpoints have stirred up considerable controversy. Critics slammed him saying that exposing young children to topics like queerness and sexuality could potentially lead to confusion or premature awareness of concepts beyond their developmental understanding.

10) It’s Inappropriate: Opponents argue that his approach disregards the importance of preserving the innocence of childhood and that sensitive topics should be addressed at an age-appropriate stage.

11) Parents Kno w What to Do: Critics say that while children may naturally encounter these topics, it is the role of caregivers and parents to guide them through understanding in a way that aligns with their family values.

12) Social Media Users Shared Their Views: Several social media users expressed their thoughts on the incident. One Twitter user wrote, “Spoken as one who probably had their innocence taken from them as a child. I weep for these people and the cycle of abuse they perpetuate.”

13) He Should Not Be a Preschool Teacher: Another User wrote, “Whole intentions are suspect with this man…..if he doesn’t understand the age-inappropriate nature of gender identity ideology with little kids he should not be a preschool teacher and all preschool teachers should be required to sign a written agreement to not expose kids.”

I've never heard that from any of my gay male friends or associates. NEVER. The closest I ever heard was using the phrase "fag hags" or discussing homophobia or being sarcastic. I would put money on it that she's been traumatized by "straight" relationships or sexual encounters with men. She speaks of them with disgust, but also a desire to overwhelm. To use her sexuality to gain power and control.

The entire fanfic is very woman-focused and descriptive though. Which makes me laugh a little (sorry gay bros). It's so damn obviously a woman appealing to other women and not men. It would be great for r/WomenWritingMen

As a bisexual, women who wax on about this sort of thing just screams out "bisexual who followed trends" to me.

I was not immune to it myself, I won't lie. I had periods where I thought I was straight, and periods where I thought I was lesbian. In the end, I am bisexual. I was trying to figure myself out with the main sexualities that were known - gay or straight. I was trying to fit myself into one of those two boxes, and it turned out they were what was faking for me since bisexuality is real.

Thank god I didn't grow up with the gender identity bullshit thrown in. It has no place in this discussion at all.

I wanted to create an Imgur account for LGBDTT so I can repost images saved in our Wiki/etc and they won't be purged over time due to being anonymous.

I don't want to use standard signup since it requires a phone number. I tried to use my Twitter account, but it turns out that will reveal my email address since I'm linking the two.

My Twitter is fake and only exists for browsing, but I would prefer not to even link that. I could make another Twitter account, but it was a total pain in the ass to even create the one I have since I'm not letting them know all my personal info to start with. I've heard that users can download the Imgur app on their phone, signup that way, and then delete the app and login through desktop afterwards.

My next problem is that my phone is old, and Imgur doesn't support my OS anymore. So I can't even download or use the app.

Are there any other options anyone knows of?

Still an issue?

JavaScript is normal on the internet, it's front-end web display and functionality mostly. You can only disable so much before websites break completely. If you completely disabled it, that's on you. Use uBlock Origin to disable the unnecessary stuff, and then tinker more at your own risk.

Cookies are also extremely common and, at least temporarily, necessary to make sites work as different pages call back on each other. SaidIt is no exception, especially as a 2015/2016 reboot of Reddit. Try setting your cookies and temp files to save to RAM and purge when you close your browser, rather than not allowing them at all.

You heard it here, everyone. Don't remove spam, CP, or porn. That's subjective, and removing them is a slippery slope to banning everything else.

For the record, I agree with you on the biased censorship path Reddit went down. I agree with the progression you're sharing. However, I think they did it because they were degenerate sick assholes all along, and so were thousands of users. They were protecting themselves, not free expression.

Reddit and their CP-addicted fucks manipulated the site into the "slippery slope", while pretending it didn't exist and encouraging normies to hide their intentions. Reddit doesn't care about copyrights, they have lawyers. They don't care about "misinformation", they tell people what is factual because of the mockingbird journalists in media. They don't care about right-wing, they have manipulated the users into believing far-left-wing is real.

Ignoring the first things in your list appearing on SaidIt - spam, CP, and general porn - guarantees this site becomes the same. THAT is the slippery slope. Porn and spam is NOT subjective, and anyone who believes otherwise is a grifting astroturfer.

Be cautious, and don't block - report, call it out, and rid us of it.

Let the Admins know so they can strike the hammer down hard. Ignoring it with blocking is willful obliviousness, and that makes you part of the problem.

It's one of the last holdouts on Reddit where LGB can freely talk, even with the astroturfing.

If you got banned from the sub by a mod and want to get back in, I can try to help you craft a response. I got banned from a big sub recently by a powermod with a personal agenda, and was able to convince them I wasn't being an asshole, I just accidentally broke an (unstated) rule. My ban was removed and Im free again.

If you got banned from Reddit overall though, I cant help with that. I know some people have been able to spam the offsite "Anti-Evil Operations" team with appeals and get unbanned - but it's a lengthy process that probably isn't worth the time unless you have a real reason to get the account back.

Notice it only has 306 subscribers, despite being 12 years old? The sub has been deliberately private and squatted on for years.

There have been a few moments here-and-there of re-opening by the trans mods (current and former). They quickly get a flurry of "trans rights!" shitposting and spam flooding the front page.

Here's one example: https://archive.li/HNMxW

I'll bet the sub re-opened during all this API stuff because they were scared of getting removed as mods, and now they're just leaving it that way so they fly under the radar.

I seem to remember there being concerns about BarefootJacob when he first was added to the team, although I can't remember exactly why. I apologize for the second reply and potentially spamming your inbox, but since you asked about posting -

If a user is not on our approved list, comments also get monitored/restricted temporarily. We do this as a sub decision, it is not a SaidIt rule or action.

At this time, LGBDTT removes comments from users who are not on the approved list, and will manually approve them as appropriate. So its sort of like shadowbanning, but temporary.

All users of this site can review our mod actions (including the Automoderator bot) in the public modlog.

Thread posting permissions are restricted to a list of approved users only, and we're not accepting requests to become an approved user at this time.

LGBDTT has a pronounced problem of dedicated trolls and astroturfing, so users need to demonstrate they are here in good faith before representing our sub and movement. We do hope to open up fully in the future again, but there is no timeline for it yet.

You can ask mods to submit a thread for you by messaging us, or another user you're friends with to submit on your behalf. You can also keep commenting until we're accepting new approved users and/or open sub posts to everyone.

It's taken me several weeks of reading, but I think I finally wrapped my head around the "fediverse". For anyone who is much more familiar with it all - is there a big one that isn't defederating from others (or blocking new communities) because of "safe space" mentality?

For example, Lemmy.world seems to be the largest so far and has lots of maintained communities and other instances it links with. But it has also blocked a few instances that lean more on the "free speech" side of things. And Lemmy's code of conduct says:

We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of level of experience, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, or other similar characteristic.
In particular, we don’t tolerate behavior that excludes people in socially marginalized groups.

I was thinking I might be able to do some recruiting by finding our people out there in the wild, but it sounds like language is going to be censored, just like on Reddit. I might be able to fly under the radar since I am only one user, but really, I should probably join one of the more "free speech" instances. But if they're blocked by larger user-centric instances, then I would be shouting in the wind.

Thoughts?
