False and disingenuous. The cartridges don't disappear on a good monitor. Blood is seen. Bodies jerk, and/or eject parts when shot. It's not caught on his camera, but he drops that magazine (and probably kicks it) as he turns from shooting into that room on the right, to go up the hall. All the "debunking" points fail.

Just saw a new one on a video this afternoon. Guy agrees everything was real, but cites various appearances of RED in the video as proof the shooter was surrounded by handlers the whole time. Anyway, have read hours of these arguments, often supported by screen caps or real life pics of the mosque. My contention is that it was entirely real - people were shot and died - but there's not enough data to say whether or not "handlers" were involved.

I have the shooting video 11 tabs to the right, but am guessing it would be too hot to handle for this site.

It's so odd to see the efforts being made by multiple sources to "debunk" the shooting, and cast it as a fake of some kind. Many of the claims in that article are blatantly false, as anyone who's watched the video would know. What is this about? Who's behind all these videos and articles trying to convince people the shooting was fake?

Nah, he scammed his way into founder status after his own site failed, then took off for Thailand to do drugs and whatever after he got the stock options. His deal was that he'd supposedly work on coding, as a "founder", but working was too annoying for such a self-important individual.

After he just took off, his response to them asking when he was coming back to finish his work was: "fuck you, I'm not coming back."

If you watched that propaganda movie about him, it was just propaganda. Skipping out on his responsibilities was a core aspect of his character, right up to the point where he still owes a debt to society for all those felonies.

Us 2005 reddit users had a front-row seat to the drama, so you might detect a bit of bias in my opinion of that character.

At first I was thinking "more bugs with wings", but bug density at that altitude is probably pretty thin. More likely are critters you bring in on shoes, clothing, and supplies. Moving in furniture that's not brand new would establish the initial colonies. Depending on critter type and building layout, some migration from adjacent living spaces is likely.

things can be in "possession" of the state while the "ownership" is retained by the people, just like corporations do not truly "own" stuff but all the things "in possession" of a corporation are owned by its shareholders.

I would accept that technicality, but in real life, the state effectively owns everything within its borders. Citizens are effectively "club members", with all the rights and responsibilities thereof.

the plight of the individual

Individuals are responsible for creating their own plights. No one is 'owed' a plight, especially those who did nothing but suck up resources for the first 10 or 20 years of their membership. Looked at another way, it could be argued that they owe an enormous debt for their very existence. To their direct caregivers, yes, but they're also living on "club grounds" under a provisional exception to their duty to provide value in exchange.

Now, I can see the validity of other forms of living arrangements. Living tribally can work - when the population in a given area is low enough. Then you need no real borders, because resources in the area are sufficient, and replenished faster than they're used up. We unfortunately no longer live in that world. Whole world is sliced and diced, mapped and claimed. There are very few places one can exist without a country membership. Pressure is getting so great that some of the cracks appear to be threatening the whole system. So maybe we will get back to that tribal/alternate way of living, or tech advances will effectively solidify control over the masses à la manière de Brave New World.

I guess I'm arguing for "what is" rather than what should or could be, but maybe I'm blurring the edges a bit.

i do not recognize the state as the owner of anything, the state is just a vehicle representing the individuals

A state that own nothing can't function. At the least, they would almost seem to need paper and pencil, with a desk in a non-borrowed space. Then, how do they get around or contact people? Would they walk to coffee shops to meet people? Then if they write something as a result, they may need a filing cabinet for the papers. Really seems like they would need to own stuff just to function at any level.

Yes, they represent us (or are supposed to, anyway...), so that's why we fund them and give them authority to act in our names and interests.

the individual is the foundation of all ownership rights

Agreed, but without the existence of individuals, ownership and basic human concepts would not exist. Is there another school of thought on this that makes any sense?

Without getting into deep philosophical arguments that I'm sure have been hashed out long ago, individual owners can group together and form governments to represent them, to which they assign part of their assets. Part of that process is making the government like a "super-agent" for the territory within it's borders.

In my view, being born within that territory (legally, by citizens, and etc.) should make you a default member of the association known as "your country". If you fail to abide by its rules and behavioral standards, then the association should have you removed or evicted. Staying within the country is tacit acknowledgement and agreement with the rules. Forming a competing jurisdiction within another jurisdiction seems logically invalid. In a biological sense, that sounds like disease. In a societal sense, it sounds like a demand for whatever level of violence is required to resolve the issue.

many of the smaller nations around the world are peaceful and often prosperous.

Pushovers that don't need military conquest to extract concessions and/or resources.

Am not impressed by my above argument. It sounds like someone who has never studied government forms, which is what it actually is... Even though I'm failing to properly articulate the argument that country borders should be inviolate, and that members of a country have a duty to protect and defend it, it seems like the only sustainable model. That's more based on just living a long time and paying some attention to other humans. if humans change into something else, then maybe other models would work better.

And how far do you want to go with this?

If you rent or lease out a house, can the tenants declare independence and seize your house? Can individuals living in Catalonia continue the process until every single property is its own country?

[–]Node 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

But many decisions by other people will necessarily affect you. The color your neighbor paints their house will affect your property values. Decisions by random people to move to your town affect how much water you'll have, how much space will be available for you in public spaces, and on and on. If food store owners decided your area is no longer safe enough, they'll all leave and how far will you drive for food?

Your "independent" clothing choices will affect decisions made by buyers. Small influence from you alone, but the aggregate drives the clothing and fashion industries.

I think I see what you're getting at, and that used to work in the old days. Now, there are too many people, and the ramifications of that make actual independence difficult, if not impossible. I agree that independence is highly desirable, but our society took the overpopulation road over my objections.

Catalonia independence: Catalonia 'will not accept' Spain's plan of strengthened federal control by magnora7 in WorldNews

[–]Node 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

the idea everyone deserves their independence

It has a good sound to it, but how does that play out in reality? Every individual on their own with no alliances? (the logical result)

Once you begin forming alliances with other humans, you're no longer independent. Basic example of this is finding a mate. Now you've created your own "mini-state". Have kids, and now you need laws and enforcement.

A species needs at least this level of interdependence to survive, so total independence is clearly out. So is the family unit the best level of independence? Them against the world? Perhaps a village? Maybe a few villages? A state? A country?

Note: I somewhat agree with the idea of local control over ones affairs, with 'local' being roughly one days walking distance. It was a mistake to advance technology to the point where local control no longer works.

That's true, but in the case of countries, it seems like their most basic duty is to maintain themselves as an organization. The actual size is less important than maintaining credibility as a going concern, as they say. You start looking unstable, and it becomes more difficult to make favorable deals, and your costs go up.

Aside from the moral and philosophical arguments against self-dismemberment, which I believe are stronger, the more compelling and practical argument against it is its historic success in destroying ones own country/territory through civil war.

Trump border wall prototypes go up in California by Vaxthrul in WorldNews

As a technology, walls are incredibly functional. A couple recent examples of border walls effectively keeping out invaders and/or terrorists are Israel and Hungry.

Israel: Israeli officials (including the head of the Shin Bet) quoted in the newspaper Maariv have said that in the areas where the barrier was complete, the number of hostile infiltrations has decreased to almost zero. Maariv also stated that Palestinian militants, including a senior member of Islamic Jihad, had confirmed that the barrier made it much harder to conduct attacks inside Israel. Since the completion of the fence in the area of Tulkarm and Qalqilyah in June 2003, there have been no successful attacks from those areas. All attacks were intercepted or the suicide bombers detonated prematurely.[51] In a March 23, 2008 interview, Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah complained to the Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq that the separation barrier "limits the ability of the resistance to arrive deep within [Israeli territory] to carry out suicide bombing attacks, but the resistance has not surrendered or become helpless, and is looking for other ways to cope with the requirements of every stage" of the intifada. - wikipedia

Hungry: Hungary has slashed illegal immigration by over 99 per cent after rolling out a series of powerful border fences in response to the European migrant crisis.

https://www.rt.com/news/403738-hungary-border-fence-migrants/

Note: Walls are just the physical barrier that cost the attacker time and energy. They need to be backed up with effective and timely responses by humans (or their assignees) to take further action.
