Other than South Korea, I actually cannot think of a single US "ally" that the US did not abandon or screw over in the past century. Even in the case of South Korea, if another poster here is to be believed, the Americans transformed the country into a prostitution state. If I recall correctly, in the immediate aftermath of the Korean war, up to 30% of the South Korean GDP was revenue from the prostitution industry servicing American troops.

The shortest way to put it is that Evola favoured the organic state and the organic individual, ideals which were not achieved by either regime. I recommend reading these texts yourself, but just to cover some important points, Evola objects to the following:

  • Materialism: identified in political doctrines on the state, race, society etc.
  • Political incoherence: democratic residues, the "one party state", unnecessary fabricated pluralism like the Grand Council of Fascism, conflicting definitions of the role of the state including some weird utilitarian ones etc.
  • State and bureaucratic expansion: a truly prestigious, powerful authoritarian state does not aim to micromanage society, and certainly does not need to.
  • Insufficient elitism: too much focus on mass rallies and public events that are of little true significance, too little effort to articulate a "New Man" with clear ethos, function, style, conduct and social base.

What Evola proposed as the perfect state is a state that acts as a formative force, fulfils all of its legitimate functions, imparts a direction on the nation without artificially constraining its creative energies with needless bureaucracy, and leads to the proliferation of the sacred and of superior values such as loyalty, discipline etc.

In my opinion, the biggest contrast can be seen in how Western media pitch this as some sort of Soviet Union-style people's war in which the whole nation is rising up to fight the invaders, whereas Russian sources claim that the arming of civilians has resulted in pure chaos, looting, murder and even friendly fire between the army and the citizens due to the lack of training and coordination. These are two radically contradictory accounts. It's obvious that there is some form of extensive, deliberate disinformation.

You are too focused on the problems and are not being fair. Think of it this way. Fixing the world is not your job. That is the job of the ruling elite. That they have been making a mess of it for decades and continue to make a mess of it now is their problem, not yours. If you volunteer your political efforts to help address the problems of modernity, that is out of your good will - no one could ask for more, and you are certainly not under obligation to do anything. As for the ruling elites, their decadence, disunity, malice and utter incompetence mean that they simply cannot win. It is not possible. I do not know who will win, but the current status quo is unsustainable and will inevitably end before long. At that point, there will be new opportunities, new people, new movements and new actors. The important part now is to prepare the preconditions for the future. Nothing can bear fruit unless the preconditions are met, and if they are met, then when the time for change comes, they will make a difference. Retaining composure, patience and a sense of measure is one of those preconditions on the individual level. Bettering the world is not something that can be done in one day, or done alone.

Consider also that an era without virtues is a great testing ground for what men of character can build, no less so than the time of Romulus. Don't get too caught up in the tragic and global elements of our time. This is our era as well, after all. Enjoy it, and the possibilities it offers, for what they are. As for the future, we do not yet know what it will bring, but whatever it is, it will be influenced by how we live in the present.

Perhaps I overdid it a bit with this post, but you get my point.

I don't think that the Russian war effort is collapsing at all, but it does appear that there have been major setbacks in the area of Izyum. The Russian military have retreated a good distance now, and there is speculation that they will need to retreat even more. I am not sure what is going on, but if Caspar is right about the difference in numbers, it would certainly explain the problem - especially on such a wide front, being massively outnumbered is not a good idea. It is strange to think that currently Russia seems to be handling the economic side of the conflict much better than the military side.

'Limited impact', more like 'positive impact' lol. Russia is on the whole probably in a much better position economically than it was at the start of the year. Meanwhile, the opposite is the case for Europe. Some European politicians appear to be looking for a way to backtrack on this economic separation between Europe and Russia, but I think it is probably too late for that. I don't think mutual trust and cooperation are coming back. By the looks of it, there will be a new iron curtain and a new cold war between NATO and Central Eurasia, with all the positive and negative aspects of what that would entail. I think Europeans are in for some hard, but interesting times. The same probably applies for the Russians.

I think the fact that they warned the Americans not to set foot on Taiwan and mobilised a large number of troops and equipment for extensive exercises is already sufficient. To be honest, considering the massive scale of their mobilisation, at one point I thought that a war might genuinely break out. I think it should be very clear to the Americans that they will have to take the Chinese into account in order to avoid making a tremendous mistake in the Pacific. Many people in the US administration are already aware of this - Biden apparently commented that the military believed that Pelosi's visit was "not a good idea". I think the Chinese response is good confirmation of that, and really drives the message home.

[–]NeoRail 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

To my knowledge, the chief officials did not threaten war. It was mostly journalists and other insignificant figures who were blustering. I think the minister of defence said that the army is "ready to fight", but he did not directly call for war either. My impression is that the Chinese wanted to bluff America into admitting its feebleness and inability to act by having them voluntarily give up on something as basic as a visit to a foreign state. Given that America has been losing on almost every front for a very long time now, I think that strategy was worth a shot. If successful, it would have perhaps completely discredited the very idea of an American world order. It didn't work this time, mainly because the American regime approaches foreign politics with invincible arrogance and carelessness. Still, I think that in the long term this will probably inconvenience America more than it inconvenienced China, because China has not really lost anything, but will certainly remember the insult.

I have seen some people claim that the Chinese lost to America or that they have been outshined by Russia as a beacon of resistance against NATO. I don't necessarily agree. The Chinese just have a brain. Who would benefit from a US-China war? Maybe the US elite, if they can win. China on the other hand has time on its side, and it is better for it to keep its commercial links to the rest of the world and continue growing its economy and military. China will only grow stronger and the US will only grow weaker. There is no reason to force a conflict now. Besides, US officials explicitly confirmed that they are not attempting to undermine the One China policy, so objectively speaking, there is nothing for China to lose. I think the sober, intelligent thing to do was not escalate the situation, and for the most part this is precisely the course the Chinese pursued. Russia did not have this privilege because of the nature and importance of its relationship with Ukraine, but China simply has nothing to gain from fighting a war with the US now.

Deleuze has a very selective reading of Nietzsche. Some leftists borrow certain ideas from Nietzsche, yes, but they rarely engage with the rest of his work. The left is not at all "Nietzschean". In fact, Nietzsche coined the term "The Last Men" precisely in order to describe leftists.

I think you should seriously reconsider your opinion. While it may be more difficult, it would be infinitely more rewarding to simply get technology under control. A nuclear collapse, on the other hand, would be an utter catastrophe.

I can't comment on Spencer but I just don't see how Woods is sympathetic to Marxism or to leftists. Woods has offered some very in-depth, elaborate critiques of both Marxism as an intellectual movement and the shapeless, practical woke leftism of today. I think that there are some problems with certain views he holds about politics and morality in the context of imperialism, colonialism, nationalism etc which could possibly be attributed to his Irish nationalist background, but that's a very different thing from having a pro-leftist bias.

At this point the critiques of Keith Woods that I see do not even make sense anymore. I thought he was supposed to be a Third Worldist anti-Atlanticist Duginist who wants to destroy NATO and Western civilisation. Now you seem to be suggesting that he is in the same camp as jingoistic, system-loving, pro-NATO leftists like Vaush etc. Which one is it? Both can't be true.

Not usually, although there are such people, especially over the last couple of decades. A lot of Saudi Arabian money goes into promoting Wahhabism worldwide, including also in Bosnia. I have also seen a number of Western converts - all of them gingers, actually, which is something you also noted in another thread. The converts are typically very serious about the cause of Islam. Generally when you are dealing with religion in Europe, it's a very minor and almost completely aesthetic thing, but for small, select groups of highly devout people, religion comes in a package with a set of principles and a social and political vision. This is why devout white Muslims are a more challenging topic - even an ethnopluralist policy wouldn't be able to account for them. At the mass level though this is less of a problem, because the only real identity modern secularised people have is their nationality.

I am curious to see if he is at all capable of acknowledging his own incoherence. I have repeatedly pointed out his incoherence to him, and also explained how and why his arguments are incoherent. Every time, his response has been to completely ignore what I have said and to make new, equally incoherent arguments, apparently without feeling any need to address his previous mistakes, avoid future mistakes, or at least attempt to maintain some sort of continuity from one post to the next. It is a bit hard to believe that he is a troll because of how persistent he is, and I don't think he is a bot either, so he must be serious. At the same time, I have also never met a person this stupid or mentally disorganised before, so I wanted to test how deep stupidity can go - how much refutation can he just shrug off, etc. The answer seems to be all of it.

I don't think I will see anything new or interesting from him, so I plan to ignore him from now on, but some of his statements are so transparently ridiculous that it's hard to resist pointing it out.

Culture includes language and borders. Specifically, one that the Native people approve of and are willing to protect from outsiders.

I don't see Israel or Japan contradicting these examples. Both nations absolutely defend their culture and if they disappear, so do they.

In just two sentences, you swap your requirements for what constitutes an independent state from a state that upholds a specific culture, to a state that upholds its own borders and has an official language. By the former criterion, which you set for Israel and Japan, there really are not independent states in Europe, except perhaps for Hungary, and maybe Russia.

An interesting article by an insightful writer. I particularly liked the author's reflections on individualism.

In addition to the economic and social problems, I think it is important to note that liberalism has already decisively failed on a geopolitical level, too. The really high level geostrategists like Brzezinski had extremely ambitious plans that were intended to be completed years ago. The window of opportunity in the 90s was supposed to be the foundation for a truly global order - one that integrates a pro-Western liberal democratic Russia, the Middle East and, after regime change, liberal democratic China too. The US has failed to achieve any of these goals and has instead chosen to oppose these states directly, which according to Brzezinski is the worst case scenario. Incompetence has become institutionalised.

I would also like to comment on some of the arguments in the article.

This was the thesis of Patrick Deneen’s 2018 book Why Liberalism Failed, written before the populist wave of 2016, and perhaps the most reliable guide to the world we live in now. In his telling, liberalism was one of three ideologies that dominated the world over the last three centuries. The other two — communism and fascism — were shorter lived, and died in the West in the twentieth century. Liberalism — the elder brother — is only dying now. One reason for its comparatively long life is that it piggybacked on older stories, presenting itself as the inheritor of established traditions of liberty when in fact it was something quite different.

Liberalism has already died several times. The only reason why this completely obsolete, moribund ideology is still kicking about is because of its willingness to adapt, absorb and shamelessly surrender again and again. Its transformation into "liberal democracy" was its first major defeat, and its subsequent transformation into "social democracy" was yet another. Feminism was also an example of a major blow to liberalism as such. The liberal system essentially relies on appropriating the energies of non-liberal mass movements to survive. As soon as it loses the will or ability to adapt in this way, it will collapse. This is also why neoliberals who chip away at the welfare state are foolish.

Apart from that, I think the author ends up conceding too much ground to liberalism on certain points, specifically on its ability to liberate. If anything, the advent of liberalism expanded tyranny massively, but also brought about greater material prosperity by bulldozing essential social structures which prevented the commercialisation of society at large.

I always find posts like this to be disingenuous because it's obvious to see that your argument is not consistent with your values. I think it's clear that if the Nazis had won you would not be posting stuff like this or complaining about this or that - instead, you would be blaming all the tragedies of the war on their opponents for getting in the way of Hitler's racialist state. It is pretty clear that you are just rationalising in order to justify taking an easier road with your politics. This is not to say that there are no valid critiques of Nazism. I have seen some good ones already, but coincidentally none of them have involved a polemical presentation of war crimes or casualties. I think if you are interested in charting an intelligent and effective way forward, you should be thinking about ideas, and the conditions of the 21st century, rather than engaging in historical polemics. Franco wasn't a fascist by the way. Neither was Salazar.

As to the issue of nationalism, since we are already discussing that in another thread, I will not be addressing that here.

I cannot agree. Putin is running a multicultral parliamentary democracy based on some sort of bizarre post-Soviet mythos. The only thing that sets his regime apart from Western democracies is the suppression of woke elements and the level of control exercised by politicians. Many people have tried to assign some autocratic dignity to him, and he has repeatedly purged and shown contempt towards these people. He is simply the Russian Ataturk. I do not see how you can say his regime is not liberal, given the structural similarities of the Russian state to the Western liberal model. Once Putin is gone, all that will be left is the liberal institutions he has created, strengthened and protected.
