I agree that it was mean of me to callout a specific user, but the point of my post isn't to whine that content isn't engaging enough, it's that I believe something is wrong with the core saidit formula. It bills itself as one thing, but it no longer actively holds itself to that standard. It's a fact that the front page is clogged with trash almost every day, that users like endlesssunflowers demonstrate a larger trend. A post doesn't have to be good or bad, just controversial enough to get views and push out actual content. I think this is a serious issue that should be addressed, as a site like saidit is only as good as its content. And I don't think this is just my opinion. We've been losing users for months now, as the reddit banwaves are driving people to make new reddit alternatives. It's not concern-trolling if there's genuine cause for concern, and indeed, I made this post after looking at the numbers and wondering to myself why saidit is being passed up by these new competitors. Blocking users would just be turning away from the problem, since there's no regular moderation, this site only works if users can see bad content/pyramid violations and speak up against it via comments.

Memes vary in quality and effort, and I have no problem with conspiracy posts if they're well put together and thought out. My war here isn't against two types of content that make up a huge chunk of the internet, but rather that the content pipeline gets clogged up with low quality material. Besides, bots have shown on reddit and elsewhere that they have no problem sliding or mass voting all sorts of content, not just text posts and sponsored NWO-approved content.

It's funny, I would actually hold you up as an example of what a "prolific user" should be, thank you for swinging by. I don't necessarily object to people posting a lot, but rather that most people that post a lot put no effort into their posting, and are playing a numbers game to get attention. When I look at your posts, your titles have your actual opinion and thoughts, you show up in comments and discuss, and the articles/videos are interesting. I share your frustration that a good article will have to get lucky to be seen by casual users, because instead some quote pic just controversial enough to get votes will consume the attention of people hanging around new.

If you're actually worried about quality, this website is full of people that don't cite and post misleading links. I made a big post about it, seemed like people are divided about it. The facts are that mods are rare here, so content just needs to be inflammatory to reach the front page and stay there. A post like the one you link is, without a doubt, a lazy shitpost, but it will stay up because 20people, like you say, auto upvote when they see tranny in the headline. The only hard-bans are coming from M7, and that only happens if there's a call for violence or the user is being extremely rude/uncivil in addition to pyramid violations. You can see in magnora7's response here , which answers your question. They don't have the resources or manpower to actually police content, one man can't do it all. It sounds like even the status quo running saidit is unsustainable, so I would doubt any serious changes would be realistic.

I share your concerns, I think until they can find a way to actively monitor content it's going to be super inconsistent. I think a decision needs to be made: is the default, non-private subs a total free-speech zone, or is there a standard of post quality (pyramid). Until then you're going to have the dissatisfaction you see in these comments and elsewhere, because it's vague. Some people will think any implementation of a standard is censorship, other people will be made that people can shit out ridiculous and spurious arguments until the smart people in the thread are too exhausted to continue. I leadership should decide one way or the other, then we'll all know and can shut up.
As an aside, could you sum up or link to your specific solutions? All the dueling with those feminists in the comments of your post makes it hard to track them down.

Do you plan on producing AI and technology locally? This is precisely why we outsource tasks like food preparation, home building, furniture building, so we can divert time to specialized training (the years invested in a phd, research, etc) and resulting years working full time on the job. We have mcdonalds and Burger King because people buy mcdonalds and Burger King. it pumps your brain full of dopamine, its cheap, quick and predictable. I don't eat them, but many people do. We don't have fast food at the expense of AI, I would argue we may have AI someday precisely BECAUSE we have innovations like fast food that free up our best and brightest minds to pursue their full potential. Modernity is cancer, but not because people pursue profit. People have ALWAYS pursued profit. Please point to an actual historical period where people did not pursue their self-interest. It's intrinsically human to want something better and takes steps to achieve it, regardless the society, currency, etc.

As for the first part of your response, I think you misunderstood my post. The currency I listed isn't important - I used dollars because this website is majority American. You could convert 50 cents to gold dust, silver, bitcoin, whatever you prefer, the argument stands. The point is that economies of scale produces goods like this plastic tin of peaches CHEAP, much cheaper than he ever could in his backyard, because he isn't processing 100,000 peaches at a time and distributing through Walmart. That's why things are so cheap at the store, it's because things are cheaper when you do them in bulk. It literally has nothing to do with dollars being "interest bearing loans".

I'm saying it's a ridiculous comparison, because his friend can't produce preserved fruit in a disposable container at this price point(edit: price estimate <$.50 per pack) locally. These "deals and contracts" are the foundations of the international economy, and on the contrary provide tremendous opportunities for developing nations to develop. Sure you can preserve your own peaches as a hobby, but it will never realistically replace the pictured product due not only to $ and expertise, but most importantly to the average American, time. We outsource food preparation to free up time to run a modern economy. If it wasn't a fair trade, my money for spending less time preparing peaches, canning equipment, etc. then I wouldn't make the trade. That's precisely why free markets are so effective, and why they've created unprecedented wealth and heightened quality of life on every continent.

In northern countries, many suffered from scurvy due to being unable to find anything fresh during their brutal winters. Nobody forced market economics on the people of the West, people embraced it, willingly. There was no need for the violent revolutions that preceded so many socialist and communist experiments, as free markets made people's lives so much better almost immediately. It was a development that made life easier for a broad swath of the world. The ability to trade a temporary harvest for the treasures of the world cannot be overstated in its importance.

I agree with you, completely, that consumerism robs the modern man of meaning and sanity. I would point out , though, that this has existed to an extent for thousands of year (yes unfortunately even traditional societies were obsessed with flexing riches and tying self-worth to possessions), but I would think everyone would agree it' gotten much worse, especially post WW2. I don't think market economics are to blame so much as corporations and governments jointly realizing how profitable it is build populations defined by their consumption of goods. There's an economic incentive, certainly to pursue this strategy, but it feels equally political. I would blame the destruction of religion and traditional societal organization instead. Modern man is no longer a Christian/Muslim/whatever, a patriot (post WW2/911/Vietnam that's problematic), a soldier (used to be most men would serve in some form, now less than 2%), member of a trade or business (jobs are temporary, the company man is dead), fraternal order (shriners, masons, Boy Scouts, knights of Columbus all in decline), ideology (mostly blended together and neutered, only now are we seeing the rise of extreme movements that dominate personal identity). At last the modern man is only defined by whether he's red or blue, and his $80,000 funkopop collection. I wouldn't call this a necessary product of capitalism so much as a shrewd political strategy to cultivate a new peasant class, played to perfection and at last reaching fruition. (edit for grammar)

First, I'm not advocating for industry, just a free market (voluntary exchange of goods/services for capital). I hope for an eventual future when advanced technology will remove the need for heavy industry, though who knows if that will ever come to pass.
Second, if the planet is destroyed, it won't be because the free market demands it. Look around, big business is already realizing the environment sells - it's great marketing, and people will pay more for green, low impact products. Pollution was rampant throughout China and the Soviet throughout their dalliance with communism. I think the issue could be more aptly attributed to human decision making rather than any specific ideology. People will choose short term rewards over long term benefits in a low information environment. Why develop ecotourism for a trickle of revenue over the years when you can buzz it down now and sell it to a furniture company? The decision still happens in every system, because every system involves humans pursuing value. In the USSR it was mid level officials cutting deals to clear a percentage off the transaction, or get a promotion off the local economic boost in their quarterly reports. In your "scientific, naturalist clan-based democratic monarchy" you would run into the same problem, as long as your Redditor philosopher kings are still human.

I'm not sure where to begin with this comment. We didn't compete with the USSR out of fear that Americans would demand a Soviet system out of envy. Their system systematically destroyed the lives of millions of people, and the day to day life of a Soviet during the height of the Cold War was in no way comparable to the quality, freedom, and choice of the average American. "doing well" is a lie, or ignorance, but either way it's wrong. As for falling wages, that's a complicated issue that everyone loves to debate, but your claim that wages have fallen due to feelings of "no competition" makes absolutely no sense. American companies do not pay their workers on the basis of competition with the Soviet Union. Companies compete with each other, and only care about foreign policy when it intersects with their industry (tariffs, trade, etc.). Correlation does not imply causation, just because the fall of the USSR and falling wages happened over the same period does not mean that one caused the other, though I would be happy to review any evidence or arguments you may have on this matter.

An alternative to the wall? I'm sure there is a high tech solution to border control, but nothing like this has been implemented or even conceived, and the closest we have to global experts (Israel and China) maintain that physical barriers are necessary foundations to be supplemented by tech based solutions. I think what you wrote SHOULD be the policy, but right now it isn't enforceable, because M7 most of the time is busy running the site, he can't be patrolling the mounds of shitposts that roll in every day. In most reddit-like sites that's the role of the subsaidit-level mods, to prune spam and shitposts. What I'm pointing out is that a lot of the default subs don't have active mods, so low quality posting is rampant and chokes the feed of the average user.

Eventually the fantasy loses novelty and can no longer substitute for the real thing. I think that depends on your goal for the project. The articles are good - concise and well-written, but they're clearly starting points for people that want to make a change. Seems like you just about have a complete one-stop primer for people who have hit a low point. Solid product, and a huge swath of the internet is a receptive market. This seems like phase 1 of the project, since this is doable solo. Finish or delete any blank pages, and make sure wiki advertises this is more than a guide, its an evolving communal creation that's driven by each individuals unique expertise and experience. What you need is an active community to start collaborating on more in-depth sub-guides on the wiki, otherwise you'll need to dump hundreds of hours into research.

The highest impact move is pick ruqqus, saidit, or reddit as the keystone of your foundation. Then start evangelizing. 4chan and reddit both love self-improvement, full of lost people that don't know how to move forward. None of these three websites have an organic path to a front page. Until you reach a large enough user base to grow by word of mouth or social media, you have to find users by hand. /pol/, /r9k/, and /fit/ are infested with people perpetually bitching about their lives and the fact that 4chan's mods and Jannies routinely ban self improvement threads. High demand, artificially low supply = opportunity. Reddit, I'm sure you know some receptive subs, where miserably people have been fed a diet of motivational quotes and empty platitudes as the solution to their problems. I think saidit is a good host, but users here are mostly political refugees from reddit, they use it as an intellectual asylum rather than for lifestyle or self improvement.

I know a written argument with a stranger online will do little to change your mind, but I know there are others out there who are still learning and building an opinion. I remember a time when I wasn't as firm in my thinking as I am now, and I had a lot of doubts and fears about the future and the nature of the world. I also play dota 2 and I feel the same way. The sub has gone to absolute shit, and a ton of the "allegations" are ridiculous. How is it rape if some guy, at a party, drunkenly grabs a woman's hand and pressures her for sex? Have these people never been to a party before? Recording was done on wax tubes, so his voice is slightly higher pitched than it sounded in person. There are a ton of audio recordings from the early 1900s, worth checking out to hear some of the vanished accents of America's past.

this is the main thing I was thinking of, probably supplemented by this and this, with further grounding in this for management and administrative restructuring. Last one's dry but I think you'd find interesting since I think you're also interested in the nature and application of power. Haven't read all of these yet, just word of mouth, so I can't vouch for quality, but interesting nevertheless.

my post sounded kind of whiny, but honestly this isn't something that would drive me away if it proves too difficult to add, or if there's other priorities.
My motivation is I'm trying to revive interesting subs, it's easiest with subs that have somewhat recent but low intensity posting. In this new filter I would be looking at page 2, communities that are getting user interest but something's still missing from the sub formula to maintain engagement. Each sub's a unique challenge, it would be cool to be able to quickly find prospects.

depends on what your interest is, I think most of Napoleon hill's stuff is free on there for general self improvement. Go to folkscanomy, they have everything by category, from there you can some crazy stuff, British ww2 self defense manuals, guides to make a small town completely self-sufficient, the usual anarchist cookbook type pdf for making guns and ammos with scrap and pipes, involved guides on music, math, coding, fascinating stuff for cultivating rare skills.

For this sub, though, there are a lot of classics on there free, legal(?), and literally two clicks away, less involved and sketchy than the typical free .pdf online hunt, we should find something interesting on there and do a weekly or monthly bookclub on this sub. No better way to self improve than having routinized intellectual effort. E.G. a nice scan of Nietzesche's "Will to Power" is on there, love or hate the guy he has ideas everyone should tangle with, it would be fun to find 5 to 10 other users on here and start a discussion, the book is saturated with topics that have never been more relevant. But we could start with something lighter as well, some light sci-fi that's easy to read, then discuss the message or big idea at play

archive.org has an entire library of pdf books that will teach you any skill you wish, how to farm, garden, lock pick, circuits, knife fighting, self defense, tradecraft, surveillance, tons of history books, an extremely interesting resource for anyone interested in self-cultivation. Includes many books you can no longer obtain in print easily.

CHAZ is an attempt to build a narrative.
Leftists gather and put up barricades, say their only goal is a cop free zone, that they're "growing crops" and minding their own business. Media and the mayor try to spin it as a "block party" full of people dancing and peacefully protesting. The hope is that Trump takes the bait and breaks it up with the military. They get a powerful scene to play again and again for the next year of "Trump's army breaking up a peaceful protest", on every airwave with every celebrity and personality that can be bought affirming that this is the rise of fascism in America.

I agree that cultural change would be ideal, I'm just not sure how to get there. I've been following saidit for a long time, and I've always admired that elevated discussion and debate are in the core culture of the website, and even the voting system. But I've also noticed that many people come here looking for a place to post memes/blogs too edgy or right-of-center for social media or reddit. Many don't seem interested in discussion so much as safe harbor and some kind of confirmation that they aren't alone in a world gone mad. I've read many of your comments about activism, I think you have a real knack for this, do you have any ideas about how to shift saidit from a meme dump into actual discussion? Can this be done as individual users throwing out DMs and threads into the fray, or would this need some support from mods/admins?

interesting article. the war in Afghanistan has bound the USA to Pakistan for a long time now, the increasing distance from Pakistan and growing closeness with the "new factory of the world"(India) is going to be one of the massive shakeups of the foreign policy world over the next 5 to 10 years. China-Pakistan balanced against India-USA-SEA, another tense front one wrong move from igniting world war 3. This growing reality will no doubt shape China's thinking, surrounded on all sides by US backed allies will no doubt further fuel an increasingly uncontrollable Chinese nationalism. Interesting times

I agree. Saidit is an opportunity to build something from the ground up, a way to connect and organize without having to compete with massive overly broad subs that produce a great deal of noise but nothing of actual substance.
I feel most subs here are dead precisely because they fail to do as you suggest. Subs aren't self-sustaining until they gain a critical mass of active users that post enough original content to attract new users. Building this core takes constant posting, crossposting to draw in users from outside of the silo, and ways to engage members consistently (flair, discussions, evolving memes etc.). IP2 has lived where so many other refugee subsaidits have died precisely because they doggedly shitposted through the long climb to ~1000 users, where organic momentum took over and pulled in people from other communities. Here as you note, it doesn't take many votes to reach front page, no easier place or time to build a community that could actually foster discussion. I think the ideal intellectual platform would have to be a new, moderated subsaidit, because most of the active subs are the ancient, broad subs from opening (whatever, quotes, etc.) that are precisely what they were meant to be, dumping grounds for low effort posts.

I agree 100%. I was a proud doomchad cheering the fall of Artifact from week 1, when it was clear the game was fundamentally flawed even aside from the monetization. Valve claims they're reworking it from the ground up, a complete overhaul of even the fundamentals, but until then this sub will be a tombstone for a missed opportunity, and a way to prevent deluded redditors from making another artifact hype cult.
on reddit you can still find people desperately arguing that the game/monetization is fine, but that the real problem was people not keeping an open mind and giving it a fair shot...

Most users here seem to be refugees from ban waves / driven by personal negative experience with reddit.
Saidit and other reddit-like alternatives haven't reached the tipping point yet where they have enough users to actually produce/aggregate enough content to draw normal users.
