It's one thing to bring up that they're two people with penises who have sex with each other, and that's not exactly what "straight" means. It's another thing to start envisioning what precisely they do to have sex, when that's not anything either of them has ever publicly discussed. Like, if you know a guy is a biological male and he introduces you to his boyfriend, it would be a little strange if "all you could think of" was who was more likely to be a top and who was more likely to be a bottom, or something like that.

Most of the “I’m not a feminist” women I know are well-aware that misogyny exists. (Ask any American conservative woman 35+ what she thought about the media’s treatment of Sarah Palin back in 2008.) But they’re also well-aware that, unlike Mr. Rogers, mainstream feminism does not “like them just the way they are.”

They’re against abortion, or at least against some element of the pro- choice movement’s ideal set of abortion laws - they think it should be illegal after twelve weeks, or a minor’s guardians should always be notified. They have strong ties to religions that feminists told them were patriarchal or oppressive. They have stories about feminists shaming them for being stay-at-home moms. They suspect feminists think they’re dumb and brainwashed. They think feminists focus too much on “manspreading” and not enough on serious issues like honor killings or FGM. They see feminism as a clique for upper-middle-class liberals and they don’t want to join.

the role of yaoi/anime bL in the “gay” tif (specifically tumblr/twt) community by gencritcurious in GenderCritical

[–]NDG 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I’ve liked slash and m/m fiction since the early 2000s, but I never got into most yaoi because the hyper-feminine guys seemed so unrealistic to me. I never got into Tumblr, either. I don’t go for most m/f fiction because it tends to be way too into gender roles, or else the author overdoes how the woman is a Strong Female Character and Just As Good As A Man. F/f seems to often have a political slant that I find off-putting in a romance.

Back in the 2000s, people might do cosplay as male characters, but girls didn’t think liking those characters or liking slash meant they were trans men. I wonder how much of this can be attributed to Tumblr.

Politically independent, not a radical feminist. I think transitioning is a social contagion in young women and that a lot of sexually abusive men are finding cover in identifying as trans women. Women are adult human females and we deserve single-sex spaces when it comes to locker rooms, sports, and anything else directly connected to our bodies.

I lurked at the old GC sub, but it seemed more ideologically uniform than this one, so I didn’t post because it didn’t seem like it was “for me.”

I'm in the same situation as your friend - with man I've been with since high school, never dated a woman. Calling myself straight would be a lie.

It would erase years of agonizing over attraction to women, and trying to explain those feelings away as "something else." It would erase my teenage unrequited feelings for a friend of mine, which were passionate and intense and basically consumed my sophomore year of high school. It would erase the temptations I had to cheat on my then-boyfriend with a woman while at college. Yeah, I'm a "straight woman" - the kind with lifelong feelings of sexual attraction to women. Makes about as much sense as a woman with a penis.

Harry Potter fan sites distance themselves from JK Rowling over transgender rights by [deleted] in GenderCritical

Longtime involvement in the HP fandom. Melissa Annelli (Leaky Cauldron) and Emerson Spartz (Mugglenet) owe their present careers to JKR. She was gracious enough to let them interview her (in 2006, I think?) and she wrote the forward for MA’s book about the fandom. Emerson Spartz started Mugglenet as a teenager. They’ve also spent years criticizing fans who disagree with JKR in other areas, but now that she pooh-poohed their sacred cow, she’s persona non grata for them.

Also? Back around 2004, Mugglenet pissed off a lot of fans by refusing to allow slash fiction on their site, because “nothing suggests any of the characters are homosexuals.” Of course, the whole point of fan fiction is to start with the canon and then let your imagination run wild, but Teh Gay was forbidden, for some reason. They later reversed course, but ES is hardly some flawless champion of LGBT rights.

The fucking nerve of these assholes.
