It’s an insidious way to force people through fear to only interact with their in-group. Sounds like a lot of kids detransitioned during quarantine when they weren’t around their “trans” peers all the time.

Wouldn’t there be a huge sunk cost involved? If you spent 20 years on T and had all the surgeries, it may be easier (even if you have come to terms with being female) to continue to identify as a man. If she likes the way she looks and is comfortable, undoing all of that could open up a Pandora’s box of mental and social issues. Some people may think “going back” isnt a real option for them, especially after surgeries. There was an interview with a detransitioned woman had all the surgeries for years too, and she still looks like a man, and I’m sure that brings it’s own challenges. Even if you are comfortable with yourself, other people go out of their way to make sure you are not if you look different, I don’t blame people for avoiding that. On tumblr at least there seem to be lots of FTMs that don’t detransition because they say it helped their dysphoria, but beyond that no longer drink the kool aid.

They say it’s a woman’s sexuality but I just hear male sexuality in it, same as that S&M song by Rihanna a while back. The whole Ben Shapiro response was funny, I hadn’t heard of the song til I saw a meme about his tweet. A crowd who might be willing to criticize it is swayed by the fun of jeering. But libfems are still stuck believing “anything a woman does is feminist” even, or maybe especially, if it’s misogynist. Choice feminism doesn’t apply to us but it applies to them, hmm.

No problem, it’s how I understand it at least, maybe someone else could explain better. I realize it’s not the best but that’s I think the quickest/simplest way I can could explain it. Like I said I have a bf so I have what I would call “radical feminist views” and I don’t feel limited or bad about that. All it means practically speaking is I wouldn’t try to say having a bf is in any way radfem, I can still contribute in all other discussions as long as I’m not claiming my bf is special or our relationship is different and totally feminist, “not my Nigel” as it’s called. Lol yes, if we take it further the vegan eating meat is what it would be like! Except you wouldn’t die but that’s the problem with analogies, they only go so far. It’s true relationships are extremely important to humans as social animals, ideally a heterosexual radical feminist would have close friends/family that would replace that need, but we are stumbling further into my personal interpretation and as another user said it’s an ongoing argument, so I don’t mind agreeing to disagree.

Sure. Say someone believes vegans are right about everything, they donate and do activism for it, but they also consume animal products regularly. Is that person a vegan? I think most people would say no. I also think some people would say that persons activism would make more impact than their personal choices and is still a good thing. Still wouldn’t say that person is a vegan though. No ones saying you have to be alone forever, it’s not about you, it’s about women as a class would be better off if we did not actively participate in perpetuating patriarchy via marriage, children, domestic labor, etc. so same as you cant be a vegan and eat meat, you can’t be a radical feminist and marry men, or be pro prostitution, or be anti abortion, etc. but that’s just my opinion on things, I think the vegan activist who is not personally vegan is better than zero awareness at all and that person doesn’t need to become pure or whatever, it’s difficult or sometimes impossible to perfectly follow any ideology to the letter.

To be blunt, yeah. Think of it this way, you wouldn’t say it’s a radical feminist position to encourage women to marry and sleep with men. But most people are hetero, and most women aren’t raised radical feminist so... it’s uncomfortable but she’s right. I’ve been in and out of the community for 7 years, I have a bf, it’s not like you can’t still participate or do activism that is in line with radical feminism. You just can’t say dating/marrying men is a radical feminist position. Is labeling yourself and being able to date men at the same time more important than having a consistent radfem theory? I took it personally at first but it is what it is.

I think some of us discover radfem ass backwards. Years ago I was libfem, didn’t really know what radfem even meant. Ran into gender cynical idiots who directed me to GC, and I was so offended by what radfems were saying about men I was banned lol. I bet many people here stumble in the same way, agree with GC, but don’t read any radfem lit, so inevitably we have a hodgepodge of women that know sex is real, but otherwise we’re not a very uniform group since literally everyone knows sex is real. On tumblr at least I see lots of people strongly GC but will say they’re not radfems or don’t agree with all of it or whatever. Radical feminism is action, not purity of thought, so with that in mind, beyond donating to some women’s charities, participating in radfem communities and reading a few books, I’m not sure if I can call myself radfem without activism to go with it.

It’s troubling because obviously we want everyone in this sub to understand radical feminism. Sometimes too many GC libfems congregate on a thread before the radfems get there with class analysis. It’s important that we all have the same understanding while at the same time not alienating too many women.

So thinking about all this I realized it might be a good idea to organize a sort of weekly book club thing. The sidebar says to read all this stuff, and since we were (are?) getting lots of new members it would be a better way to sort of ease them in. It was quite shocking, as a libfem, to hear “feminism is for exclusively for women” when you’ve been hearing for a decade that feminism is about working together to help both sexes, and everyone is beating you over the head to be nice above all.

Well now you’re insulting me with your assumption that Halloween is only scary for children. I will quote you verbatim to not misrepresent you as you are doing to me.

Imagine someone who doesn't like spiders, keeping plastic spiders around the house. That's what this sounds like.

So correct me if I’m wrong, but you don’t see a difference between a penis and a sex toy, or a fake spider and a real spider. I assumed you did not have a mental illness that precludes you from discerning reality from fantasy, so I do apologize for that assumption. I mentioned Halloween, since you mentioned spiders, as a hopefully familiar way to contextualize the difference between reality and fiction, since Halloween is often when you will see fake spiders belonging to people that do not own real spiders. With this in mind, hopefully you could apply that knowledge to sex toys vs penis, but we haven’t gotten that far yet.

Have you ever heard of Halloween? It must be a very confusing and scary time for you.

That’s not an insult. It’s leading to a point, but I didn’t think I’d have to spell it out. The point being that a fake version of a thing is not the same as a real thing. People like fake plastic spiders for Halloween but don’t actually want a bunch of giant spiders in their house. Fake things are not the same as the real thing

People have a lot of different opinions about reclaiming slurs. Personally I have zero interest in reclaiming sexist slurs. I don’t want to give men an even further pass to think calling women Bs and Cs is just fine and dandy. I don’t want to call women terf or be called that. I don’t want terf to be cemented into public lexicon. People still mostly don’t know what it means, it was the most googled word after the JKR stuff happened. Even when all the TRA crap crumbles “terfs” will always be known as the bad women that hate trans people. Why keep up with that branding when radfem/GC works and is more accurate and will remain accurate over time. Seems worse than a waste of time. If we look at the reclaiming of n word and queer it seems to have turned out badly. More kids saying and exposed to it than ever, and heterosexuals calling themselves queer, and it seems like it hasn’t deterred racists or homophobes at all. I just read like yesterday an 80something feminist was lectured that she should be ok with other people calling her queer. I seriously never heard the n word (besides black media) til like high school and all the white kids were having a grand old time with it but they “weren’t racist.” How, do you ask? They don’t hate black people, they hate n words. I personally know one of those guys is a schizophrenic who would fantasize about becoming a cop and shooting n words. But it’s okay he’s not racist, he doesn’t hate black people you guys! Chris Rock said so! It also really, really annoys me when the right come up with new words and it’s adopting by people in the left like immediately? Simp and cuck off the top of my head. I’m rambling now, I’m not black or gay so take all that with a grain of salt, but maybe someone will share their insight on other slurs.

Endless stream of new kids signing up on tumblr and being bombarded with gender crap. Who knows how many questioning children see the debates and it gives words and meaning to their doubts. We know they worry about doubt all the time. And you never know. Sometimes a seed is planted in the person your arguing with that can bear fruit years from now.

I think we gravitate towards talking about trans issues because 1) we can’t talk about it anywhere else and 2) it’s just so damn easy. Low hanging fruit. Trans women are men, duh. Men do horrible things. Look at this fucked up man. Look at that fucked up man. Justified outrage! It’s the same reason why people who are absolutely not allies to women are being praised for saying the obvious. Everyone knows trans women aren’t really women. Men get no points for saying so but they get pats on the back anyway. And 3) women and men who don’t really agree with radfem can participate fully in those discussions. One other point, 4) since it’s tied heavily with censorship due to recent events it’s probably going to be talked about a lot more for a while...

I realized I was a part of the problem and quit the sub a while back to lurk and not contribute to it.

Performative wokeness gets you clicks and money. There was an article the other day where a real estate company was going to change their usage of “master bedroom” to avoid the master/slave connotation. Something absolutely no one asked for or cared about. But now there’s an article about them and people are talking about it. If anyone is relying on a social media platform for revenue, I would not trust a word they say to be genuine. Couple years back when the bathroom narrative was stronger, a bunch of female celebrities came out saying they would be totally cool peeing next to men. It was disappointing, but it would’ve ruined their career to say otherwise, and if they’re silent they don’t get free exposure. It’s a shame though, since people who form their opinions based on celebrity opinions are bound to agree without thinking.

Internalized misogyny and cults affect even the smartest people. Hopefully she will be smart enough to wake up.

For me, and maybe others, in 2014 Leelah Alcorn committed suicide in a very public and devastating way. It got my attention and pushed me to seek out trans stuff. It was (at least what I was hearing back then) exactly the same as gay rights rhetoric. It’s who they are, they can’t change it, denying it makes them suicidal. All very emotional reasons, it was a seamless transition (no pun intended). Problem is none of the logic came with it and the illusion fell apart pretty quick for me. I honestly don’t understand how people are still going along with it at this point... how it got this far when it all crumbles at a glance.

When I first started learning about radfem I was worried cuz I’d never stand up to a purity check. Some feminists will razz you for being with men at all. It’s true that a big part of radfem is making sure women have the means to support themselves. So many homeless and abused women are only in that position because their livelihoods are dependent on men. If your husband cheated on you, left you, or abused you/your daughter, do you have a support system in place? Friends and family you can trust? Savings? Job prospects? If not you should, just for the peace if mind, even if your husband is wonderful shit happens. Radfem looks at women as a whole rather than individuals. For some privileged women, radfem may seem to leave them behind, because it focuses on collective issues like abortion, rape, and femicide, and being dependent on men facilitates their ability to harm women. I’m in the opposite boat. My bf is 100% dependent on me lol. I love him so I keep him around. It feels good knowing that at any point in time I could simply choose to leave and my life would be relatively unaffected.

Unless I’m completely misunderstanding you, you just stated there is less faith and less oppression in the west, while in Pakistan there is more faith and more oppression. How do you come to the conclusion that faith is the answer to lessen oppression, given that your statement leads to the opposite conclusion? If the greatest problem is subjugation of women, how can adhering to an archaic patriarchal ideology possibly help? Even if the whole world converted to Islam, men will always want to hold onto their power and Islam gives them the perfect excuse to do so, that it’s gods will. How can you hope to change that?

Reposting my old peak

About 6-7 years ago or so I was very libfem, was barely aware of radfem. Gay people were granted the right to be married in the US and I wanted something new to feel self righteous about. Trans people were being talked about a lot more. It was new and different and magical and “breaking gender norms” lol. Of course I didn’t believe they were literally women, but if they were so unhappy and suicidal, I didn’t see the harm in a small number of mentally ill people living that way if it helped. The death of Leelah Alcorn got a lot of attention and pushed me to join pro trans subs to understand them better and adopt their rhetoric. I was looking through memes in gender cynical and not really understanding them. Then one caught my attention. It said something like “if you saw someone cute at a bar, you wouldn’t grab their genitals to check before flirting.” Well that makes no sense. So I commented something like “I’m straight so I don’t want to interact sexually with someone else’s vagina, trans or not. Am I missing something?” They dogpiled called me a “terf” and told me to go back to gender critical. Having never heard of it before, I checked it out. Being a libfem I was confused there too and got banned, but I stuck around and learned cuz I knew I was hearing the truth. They had a ready and willing ally and in my very first interaction with them they proved to be hysterical morons, whereas GC put me off initially but won me over with something they’ll never have, the truth.
