Mostly a good list, but my personal experience would contest the one about not working out on an empty stomach. Working out shortly after a meal was usually pretty miserable for me, since so much energy was being put towards digestion and sometimes I'd get nauseous. I find I have much better focus and more energy on an empty or nearly empty stomach. Depending on the time of year, I prefer working out on an empty stomach (in summer) or at least 1 hour after a light meal (in winter).

How much do you know about computers? by [deleted] in AskSaidIt

I know what a motherboard is.

I cannot connect components to a motherboard, but I do feel like I could be talked through the process and possibly be successful at it.

Making a motherboard is way, way, ridiculously above my paygrade.

I've never been the most tech-savvy person, and I actually feel like I've gotten worse at it over the years. Before tablets, I knew how to at least figure out how to fix issues with hardware or software. I didn't have to outsource all my tech support. But once I got an iPad, that all changed. I practically feel computer illiterate now. If something goes wrong with my tablet, I have no idea where to start. For a long time I only had a tablet and eventually I got a regular laptop again, but I still feel pretty clueless about it. What little tech skills I had have totally atrophied.

Is it illegal to own a child sex doll? ‘Creeper Act' would ban them, says legal analyst by voter in politics

[–]Mle 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm really unsure about how I feel about banning child sex dolls or banning CG or animated childporn. Does having a child sex doll make someone more or less likely to abuse an actual child? Is there any actual research done on this? On the one hand I am disgusted by the normalization of pedophilia. But on the other hand I am not for the state banning simple materials constructed a certain way just because it might lead to abuse.

How to Have Breakfast Now That It's No Longer the Most Important Meal of the Day by mkova in realfood

[–]Mle 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This is a great article. I started skipping breakfast a few years ago. I thought it would be difficult because I work a physically demanding job, but it actually resulted in me having more energy and focus in the morning. In the spring and summer I can delay eating until lunchtime. In the cold weather, I need something warm to drink in the morning (like tea or broth) and a light snack sometime in mid-morning. Now I generally have a light vegetarian lunch and a big dinner. Two meals a day really feels very good to me.

It caught me off-guard, actually, how much better I felt after cutting out breakfast. I assumed it would take time to acclimate, but I felt the benefits of it from day 1. I think it is more important to get and stay hydrated in the morning. Water with a little bit of apple cider vinegar has helped me feel refreshed and also suppress my appetite on the days where I do feel hungry.

I've definitely become skeptical of the "three square meals a day" idea that has been pushed on us since birth. But when you eat like that with all your meals spaced out, it means your body never gets a rest from digestion and you rarely (if ever) experience what actual hunger is. I think this just leads to eating becoming and exclusively an act of routine and pleasure, and not because it is something you actually need in that moment.

I believe in the power of probiotic food! I've experienced better health and wellness as a result of incorporating them into my diet. Lactofermented vegetables, kefir, and miso are all delicious and easy to add into your daily food. You don't even need to eat a ton. Just a little every day can have a big impact. It's amazing for the first time in world history a large % of people's body shapes are changing significantly due to an abundance of food.

An abundance of the wrong kind of food. Highly processed, highly addictive, and devoid of nutrition. That is sadly the modern diet. But I think people are beginning to have a better idea about what healthy eating is. Thats why I started s/realfood, so we can have conversations about the how and why of eating for good health.

Did you eat the grains straight up? I have a hard time doing that, they're just so chewy and weird. The website I linked here talks about dehydrating them with spices to make a crunchy snack. It also talks about using the grains as a starter for sauerkraut in place of salt. He calls it kefirkraut. As a big fermentation enthusiast, that I idea is really compelling to me. I'm definitely going to have to try that one.

Israel fines New Zealand women $18,000 for urging Lorde concert boycott by sponges88 in WorldNews

Judge Mirit Fohrer ruled that Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab of New Zealand must pay damages to Israeli teenagers Shoshana Steinbach, Ayelet Wertzel and Ahuva Frogel totalling more than NZ$18,000 for writing a letter urging the singer to cancel her concert in Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem Post reports.

So who are these teenagers and how are they owed anything other than a refund for the tickets they bought to a cancelled concert? Who wants to bet they have ties to Israeli government and/or intelligence, and are just being used in this stupid push to make it illegal to criticize Israel across the world?

I sincerely hope the New Zealand courts give 'em the old middle finger and do not compel anyone to pay these girls a cent.

I found this great website from this guy who really seems to know his kefir. I've been making my own kefir for years, and I really appreciated hearing about the history and mystery of kefir, as well as all the scientific information and the practical uses and recipes! Even after making my own for so long, I found this page to be a wealth of information that deepened my knowledge of kefir making. Its given me a renewed interest in kefir experimentation.

Is anyone else familiar with kefir? Do you make your own?

Also perhaps noteworthy that the area hit by these explosions is pretty poverty-stricken. Lawrence in particular is densely populated (for Massachusetts) and has a large immigrant population, the majority being non-white. Whether that means anything, I don’t know. But perhaps another example of america’s poorest towns getting shafted as far as public safety and infrastructure goes.
