Thanks for the update. I probably won't be commenting much around here anymore (here or the larger Saidit). I have my reasons. Was tempted to nuke the account entirely but that's a bit childish, as is a big drama post (as opposed to a small drama-comment, which this could be considered).

And lots of people say "I'm out" and then come back in one form or another, I'm not naive enough to assume I definitely won't do that.

Best of luck to you all, at least for awhile!

If you want to change how people feel about you, you cannot do this by force.

LGB rights ultimately rest on how the larger population feels about us. All the legislation in the world won't create meaningful change if the general population views us as entitled, demanding and reckless.

Those people will continue to be homophobic and forcing gay celebration (not acceptance, let's get that clear; it's celebration) into their single-player game experience is not going to make them change their minds.

Forcing acceptance only increases the hatred. You can see that happening very clearly with "Suck the girldick bigot" but it applies to LGB also.

Similarly with government, they insert their own controlled scientists into various positions.

Who do you think funds the grants? Don't you think NSF and NIH may have some vested interests that influence the process?

While the scientific review forum does try to rank proposals based on merit, it's still a process that is based on personality and fashion (source: I have participated in these panels). However, the panel simply sends a list of rankings to the officers who choose grants based on "funding priorities". These choices don't necessarily align with the rankings.

I tend to view the pagans as archetypes and thus aspects of God (or aspects of the human psyche, which is a much lower frequency of God, "created in His image"). Yes, of course they are psychopaths because they represent purified essences, and any behavior taken to an extreme is going to be psychopathic. The point isn't to worship a single deity, it's to understand how they function together to make a unified whole. It's a mirror of own own psyche, and thus a mirror of God.

Christians seem to function without this (well, not Catholics: they reproduced the whole idea with the saints). I don't really understand Protestantism, so I can't comment on it. I grew up Roman Catholic and ported my belief system to Buddhism (which makes more intellectual sense to me) and a form of paganism that makes more emotional sense to me, even as I still use Catholic prayers as part of my spiritual practice.

I bet the demons aka archons are identical to the gods of the pagan pantheon.

I think reasonable people can disagree on this last point. The ancients had different conceptualizations of the metaphysical layer of reality. In my opinion, it was more nuanced, but I get that modern Christianity works for a lot of people.

But, yes, in general, reincarnation is supposed to be a curse, not a blessing. If the Christian conceptualization of God is correct -- that He truly loves His creation -- then the only concept of eternal damnation that makes sense to me is reincarnation: it's as eternal as you choose it to be.

Consider that iam is correct in a fashion, but in a weird and not entirely Christian way: when you die, you go to Hell, but you don't know you're in Hell. It looks like something you're already familiar with: the world you just exited. Well, not entirely. You're a little different, you have to start from scratch. You have to learn to eat again. You have to learn to walk again. You have to learn a lot of social things again. You have to go through puberty again. Etc. etc. This is God giving you another chance to get it right.

This is actually what some branches of Buddhism believe (taking some poetic license in the telling).

I have a modest proposal: all members of society should be fully equal and not allowed to be smarter, better-looking, or more physically able than anyone else. To enforce equality laws, citizens should wear "handicaps": masks for those who are too beautiful, loud radios that disrupt thoughts inside the ears of intelligent people, and heavy weights for the strong or athletic.

I tend to view scripture through the lens of resonance. The longer the passage has survived, and the more people who venerate it, the more resonance it has. Regardless of source (pedo prophet, scammy leader, schizo, whatever).

From a functional perspective, reciting prayers that have withstood the test of time, especially using older linguistic forms, tends to produce results. By results, I mean altered mental states, that when repeated over time have demonstrable effects in ones life. I am a loving spouse, a compassionate and effective manager, and revered within my technical discipline, precisely because of the seriousness to which I apply meditation, prayer, etc. Most importantly, I am closer to that Kingdom of Heaven we talked about in another thread. Could I have achieved all these things without meditation, prayer, etc.? Maybe. But it wasn't until I took these disciplines seriously that I started to see concrete results in my life.

This isn't the result of God rewarding you with grace, siddhis or whatever, it's just a natural result of resonating at a frequency that permits these changes.

Well, plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Obviously I think putting homosexuals to death is extreme, but I have no problem with closing down Grindr and all other apps/establishments that promote high-volume promiscuity. I mean, they showed that they can do that with C-19, why not now?

On the subject of God, the afterlife, etc., which is my favorite topic, one that I prefer over homosexuality and MPX. The Kingdom of Heaven is a state, it's not a "place". You can't attain the Kingdom of Heaven while you're chasing tail (of whatever gender). All addictions are problematic, not just sexual addiction. I am not a Christian (at least not by the criteria accepted by most people who call themselves Christians), I am a pagan who believes in a Supreme Being that presides over a potentially infinite number of divine beings that could be thought of as archangels, gods etc. (there are technical differences between all of these but that's a detail not relevant here). The Supreme Being doesn't care about anything that we care about, He is too remote, too large. Individual divine beings may or may not care, depending on the personality. Prayer, offering, sacrifice, etc. allow you to resonate with one or more of these beings, which in turn brings you closer the Supreme Being (on average ... certain metaphysical beings probably complicate matters, you know which ones I'm talking about). When you resonate with those beings (the right ones anyway) you get closer to the Kingdom of Heaven. The "afterlife" is a more complicated topic because time is an illusion, so the concept of "after" is problematic. Let's just say that there is an Eternal Present and in that Present you can be in the Kingdom of Heaven or you can be in Hell. My personal opinion is that attending MPX piss orgies is not behavior that tends to promote a heavenly state of mind.

Why does that sort of hedonistic culture even exist?

Because it can. Some straight guys would be equally and disgustingly hedonistic, but women tend to prefer their men one-at-a-time rather than all-at-once, so it is much more difficult for an individual straight man to achieve the same level of degeneracy. Now imagine a system where there are no barriers to any and every kind of degeneracy, and add in whatever personal trauma that contributes. Finally, consider the specific culture develops around the structural capacity for debauchery, and then imagine being an individual gay man who, all other things being equal, would prefer to live a righteous life but finds that the culture doesn't support this preference.

Yes, it is very Biblical. Right now I think a lot about Romans 1:27. Whatever your thoughts on about the Bible being the literal Word of God (especially Paul's contributions), it at least functions as a historical record. Just the existence of this passage tells you that gay men were behaving the same way even 2000 years ago. It's a structural property, it doesn't even have anything to do with the inclinations of individuals, it results from the long-term average behavior of the system as a whole.

[–]IridescentAnaconda 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

My personal hypothesis is that this is an effort to herd gay men into a vaccination campaign that will introduce other, undisclosed agents along with the leaky Vx they are promising. Reminds me of the conspiracy theory that HIV was introduced via the Hepatitis vaccine campaigns of the 70s. Obviously I don't have any hard evidence for this, it just feels like this is the purpose: it was unacceptable to advocate for limiting sexual partners until after most of the gays had already gotten their first shot (and even then you can only say hey guys maybe you should limit your contacts to 2 a week instead of 10). The only acceptable solution was a shitty vaccine that doesn't even really work (and now they're splitting the doses into fifths).

The whole thing is really fucking me up. I'm a gay guy who very much believes in (and practices) monogamy and I'm totally repulsed by the promiscuity and piss orgy culture. So part of me is outraged that the "powers that be" could do this to gay men, but on the other hand, play stupid games win stupid prizes. I hate that MPX is bringing out all the antigay hatred, but on the other hand I have no way to offer a rational objection to the hatred.

Yes, I'm seeing people post this article in several places. It suggests that the large majority of transmissions are sexual. But it still not necessarily 100% (remember that closely related smallpox can be transmitted via bedding). Even if transmissions are 99% MSM sex (and I think that's probably close to the truth), the rare canine case could easily be due to the 1% non-sexual transmission. I think bedding is a more likely vector in this case.

Again, promiscuous sex puts yourself and others (including canine friends) at risk and thus should be militantly discouraged. These guys are still degenerates. But I don't think there is any need to assume that they are fucking their dog.

I have a doctorate in a biomedical field. Worked in public health for a long time until moving to private industry. I have noticed that, regarding covid, experts who have contradicted the narrative have been silenced, often quickly and harshly. Numerous peer-reviewed studies have since come out documenting the statistical and/or biological evidence that the mRNA covid vaccines did more harm than good -- they do not get any press. Whatever the truth is about the covid vaccines, the opposing viewpoint is not getting any air time. Even if the official narrative turns out to be true, the silencing of opposing viewpoints (e.g. branding those who espouse them "narcissists") will only reinforce the so-called conspiracy theories.

In short: you're doing harm to your own cause in the long run. The motives for articles such as this one are transparent, and people can see right through you.

Despite the overwhelming propaganda to the contrary I believe there is quite a lot of evidence that homosexuality is like a fetish in that it grows the more it is indulged in.

This is the kind of double-speak gaslighting that I expect from ultraconservatives. Homosexuality is a "choice", except when adolescents who seem to be "faggots" are tortured by their peers, in which case it is assumed to be inevitable. Have you ever thought that the trauma inflicted on young "faggots" actually creates the degeneracy you condemn? I hate the degeneracy that is displayed by gay men, but I also understand that it is often a response to deep emotional wounds.

I think maybe people forget this because "intimacy" is sometimes used as a euphemism for sex.

Isn't this a clever bit of propaganda? Maybe not so clever. The author of the piece can't directly say "sex" because he knows he'll lose all the sympathy points. So he hides it behind "intimacy", which might provoke compassion: those poor gay men, unable to find true love because of the illnesses that keep happening to them, for some reason nobody knows why.

I've been in a state this last week because on the one hand I really resent the people who are committed to hating gays, all of us, but on the other hand it's hard to argue why they shouldn't hate at least gay men.

Anyhowz, thanks for your vote of confidence in my cranky comments :-)

And then there are the ones who are just plain scared to speak out. As things gradually move, we'll probably see more of these people speaking up. The problem is they'll also provide a convenient shield for the second group, who'll claim that they were also simply too scared.

I don't know if this is a driving factor but I know it is at least part of the story. The reason r/LGBT is such a sickening hugbox is that if you contradict the narrative you'll find yourself quickly silenced and banned. I tried to say something recently on r/mpx about how gay men should be curtailing anonymous promiscuous sex and I was very quickly banned with a message telling me that I was "irresponsible" (for being a gay man who was providing "ammunition to the other side", although tbf I might have chosen my words more carefully when I wrote my initial comment).

MPX = monkeypox. While it's true that some organizations that speak about gay men's health are starting to recommend decreasing ones sexual partners (at least temporarily), you still have a lot of media messaging that bemoans the "threat to intimacy". I'm sorry, but for me random sex =/= intimacy. If you want to experience "intimacy" court someone for a few weeks before jumping into the sack. I know I don't have to tell lesbians this: you galz are generally better about maintaining relationship.

The dogma is "U=U". I can't comment on whether this is a trustworthy statement as HIV virology is not my expertise. But, HIV aside, it's clear that random unprotected sex is a great way to spread all kinds of diseases including those we don't know about yet and those that we are just learning about (MPX). When I began to understand how people were using PrEP, I predicted that another health crisis would emerge, and MPX did not disappoint. On the one hand you would hope that MPX, being relatively benign in the grand scheme, would serve as a lesson and teach promiscuous gay men to keep their pants zipped up. But I'm old enough and black-pilled enough to know better.

LGB has its own legitimate problems. I realize my voice might be relatively unpopular here, but the recent self-righteous doubling down on defense of unhealthy behaviors in the wake of MPX is going to nail the coffin shut. We sexual minorities can exist only if allowed by the sexual majority, and thus optics are of paramount importance. It is not a good look to cry about muh sexual freedom when the rest of society is already suspicious of our (collective) sexual promiscuity and interprets our response to a disease outbreak as casual. You can see this happening on the general Saidit subs: a non-negligible fraction of general Saidit members have already written off gay men in our entirety.

While TQ+ doesn't help us, we are adding our own serious shortcomings to the negative perceptions, and I'm starting to think that our general unwillingness to call TQ+ out is part of a larger picture of self-absorption and failure to understand long-term consequences.

And I realized how angry I was that, for the third time in my life, a viral pandemic was dictating my sex life, shaping my professional life, messing with my head, and keeping me from experiencing intimacy.

Such bullshit. I'm a gay man and I have no fear, no obstacle to "experiencing intimacy". Want to know why? Because I "experience intimacy" with my same-sex spouse in the context of a long-term monogamous relationship. In fact, the quality of the intimacy that I experience far exceeds anything I experienced when I was single and free to have sex with whomever. You know what really keeps gay men from experiencing intimacy? Fucking around constantly.

Shit makes my blood boil. I thought this was all about "love"? Remember: love is love.

Any complex system with a high number of interactions is going to select for properties that are most easily magnified by those interactions. In other words, you can use PrEP as a barrier to HIV infection, vaccinate away the MPX, but if you're participating in a culture where 20+ hookups a month are the norm, then you're going to encounter some other unpleasant or even lethal pathogen. That's what pathogens do, they find the best way to propagate themselves. Gay orgies represent excellent opportunities for microbes.

Imma quote the Bible, not because I believe it is the literal word of God, but rather because it provides an interesting historical perspective. Romans 1:27: In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. In other words, this shit was happening 2000 years ago, with the same natural laws governing the behavior of complex systems, and people still have not learned to keep their dick in their pants.

I'm not taking it because I am not at high risk. I've had sex with the same one person for 10+ years.

On the other hand, some people are suggesting that I might be at risk simply because, as a gay man, I may have brushed by another gay man who happens to have MP ("it's not sexually transmitted"). This is not the pro-gay message that some people seem to think it is: it will only make gay men pariahs if casual contact with someone perceived to be high risk is understood as a transmission factor.

[–]IridescentAnaconda 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

What kind of touching? Not all touch is equal. If causal touch were a common transmission pathway, then MP would have leaked out into the general population much faster than it has. MP is not strictly speaking sexually transmitted, but functionally it behaves as such.

You can probably get MP by massage, but you can get crabs the same way (crab lice infestation functions as a STI even though strictly speaking it is not). I have been able to avoid crabs by not having casual sex, even though I have probably encountered people who have it (in environments with high gay male concentration).

Edit: I'm not really a fan of trying to downplay the sexual component of this. Even if 10% of transmissions end up being nonsexual, it doesn't detract from the fact that most of the time transmission will have occurred through sexual contact. I've about had it with gay men who are so committed to casual sex that they will avoid obvious conclusions about disease transmission in order to continue behavior that is unhealthy both physically and emotionally. I actually do have some experience with infectious disease epidemiology so I'm not a moron about how this operates in a complex system.

Jynneos is comparatively new. It's supposed to have fewer side-effects than the older-generation vaccines, but it hasn't been around long enough to know for sure. Note that the older-generation vaccines were not particularly safe, and their adoption was justified only by the risk/benefit tradeoff of preventing a serious and lethal disease. Jynneos may be fine, but I feel like gay men are being used for Phase-4/RWE testing.

Don't worry, the plan is only to herd gay men into a vaccine box. I.e., they want us to sign up to be the guinea pigs for a relatively untested Vx. This is the preferred strategy for avoiding a disease that can also be avoided by, say, not having impulsive / anonymous / industrial-scale sex.

Wanting to do vs. it being a good idea are two different things.

I was once (long ago) a horny 13-year-old kid becoming aware of his same-sex attraction, and would certainly have jumped at the chance to have sex with a real live adult male. Do you think that would have been a good idea? I'm willing to bet your answer would be no. Just to clarify my own opinion: no, that would not have been a good idea in any way.

Adults should not be having sex with children. Full stop, whether heterosexual or homosexual, whether the child in question seems to want that sex or not.

Here is what I wrote to a good friend this morning:

I am coming to believe that the gay male community is being used as an in-vivo experiment. You must accept the Vx to combat MP, no other solution [e.g. temporary abstinence] is possible. This feels like a narrative that is being shaped from outside, so the question is why? The likely answer is that the "outside influence" needs the Vx to be the solution to the problem that MP creates. So my next question is, what else is in the Vx? Are we going to see an emergence of some other dreaded disease in the gay male community in 2 to 5 years? Remember all those conspiracy theories about HIV being present in the Hep-B Vx that gay men were encouraged to take in the 70s?

I can definitely see gay men on Reddit calling for Monkeypox lockdowns and vaccine mandates, and in the same breath, cry when a country criminalises homosexuality because of Monkeypox.

Yes I see the same thing. This will never not be both funny and appalling at the same time. They want lockdowns for all but still lash out in rage if you curtail their cock-carousel for even one minute.

If this is how a lot of gay people are, I cannot blame homophobic people for being homophobic. I really can’t. And I’m gay.

Here's the problem: truly homo-hating people will hate you no matter how you behave. There's a lot of people who hate the promiscuity but are otherwise begrudgingly fine with gay men like you and me who understand the physical and emotional importance of chastity/monogamy, and I have no problem with them (even their begrudging tolerance as opposed to the wild enthusiasm demanded by the LGBTQ+ crowd). But there are people who have their own sexual continence issues who still hate you for being gay no matter what you do or do not do. They can't see their own hypocrisy, which is almost as bad as the gay guys you and I see on Reddit. Almost.

The willful refusal to incentivize healthy behavior among gay men: pisses me off.

Despite all the arm-twisting from govt, employers, and media, only 48% of eligible Americans have gotten boosted. The majority—over 100 million—have refused. Another 107 million remain unvaccinated. So more than 207 million Americans, about two thirds of the total population, are now “anti-vaxxers.” by Orangutan in politics

That's because many companies require the initial "full vaccination" as a condition of employment, but do not require boosters. If given a choice, many Americans would have preferred to not be "fully vaccinated".

I agree with what you write. I'm a gay man and I think being homosexual is suboptimal, all other things being equal. However, no human being is perfect, everybody has some cross to bear or some failing. While I might have rather been heterosexual, the fact is that I'm not, and trying to force the issue would do more damage to myself and others than to make the best of the situation at hand and live the best and most honorable life given the constraints. Consequently, I'm a relatively happy person in a satisfying and stable same-sex marriage. I wouldn't wish homosexuality for anybody; but given that some people are gay, I'd rather have a society that allowed gay people to be happy in that state (and provided incentives towards healthy behavior) than to punish us for the fact of our existence. I feel like some people -- unfortunately a growing proportion of people on this site -- are of the punishing mindset.

I agree with you, but there are two forces in play right now. One of them is the force you allude to: gay men failing to take responsibility for their sexual behavior and, additionally, shunning gay men who want to promote the idea of sexual responsibility in gay male culture (I have experienced this). But on the other hand you have a contingent of straight people who will blame gay people no matter what. In particular, you will find people who oppose same-sex marriage -- a generally stabilizing force (even though imperfect) -- out of pure spite. I find it particularly amusing that certain people on this platform allude to their own less-than-stellar sexual morals as straight men, yet still condemn gay men. Flaming hypocrites.

Anyway, we're all doomed. Monkeypox will lead to lockdowns for everybody (whether warranted or not) and gay men will get left holding all the blame.
