The Orville is absolutely the spiritual successor of Star Trek, and it’s fantastic.

This is a really, really good read. Scratch that, this is really good journalism. Maybe the most insightful thing I've ever come across on r/conspiracy, and from a mod no less. Definitely deserves a cross-post to s/conspiracy. I'm a little suspicious that it hasn't been memory-holed though.

Wow, actually worse than I thought. I really hope this scandal/movement becomes a force for good and not an excuse for more evil.

But why now? This has been going on for years, Elsagate anyone? This particular outrage is a decade too late and obviously manufactured.

Legit, it's even in his wikipedia:

In 1951, along with many other Ivy League alumni, Buckley was recruited into the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); he served for two years, including one year in Mexico City working on political action for E. Howard Hunt;[23] who was later jailed for his part in the Watergate affair. The two officers remained lifelong friends.[24] In a November 1, 2005, column for National Review, Buckley recounted that while he worked for the CIA, the only employee of the organization that he knew was Hunt, his immediate boss.

But as they say, once a company man...

*edit: He might have been a stooge within the CIA, as in rich kids playing spy

Multiple life sentences for running a website :/ All of his convictions were for non-violent crimes. If it weren't for the war on drugs and the threat of crypto he might be palin' around with Bezos and Zuckerberg. Meanwhile big pharma continues to rake in billions from the completely legal and arguably engineered opioid epidemic. What's the opposite of a justice boner?

As far as doom-porn goes, this guys stuff usually has pretty decent production value. At the very least, this video made me realize I haven't been paying enough attention to the current state of affairs in Venezuela. Also, dude might be Batman.

Totally not related, probably: China just re-sentenced a Canadian citizen to death after appealing a 15 year prison sentence for drug smuggling.

Robert Lloyd Schellenberg was given a 15-year jail term in November but, on Monday, a court said the sentence for drug smuggling was too lenient.

Has she ever taken a position on 1A, freedom of speech, and internet censorship? I've searched but have found nothing relevant. That singular issue is my personal litmus test. I want to like her, but I'm suspicious of my own inclinations. In interviews she comes off as naive but passionate, which isn't the end of the world, maybe even the perfect way to start a political career. My worst fear is that her current rising star is a media charade, designed to capture and steer the Bernie wing back to the corporate democrats.

"The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense..." Buckminster Fuller by EndlessSunflowers in WayOfTheBern

[–]DrStrangelove 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"Fuller used a portmanteau of the words dynamic, maximum, and tension to arrive at the term Dymaxion."

The Dymaxion car and Dymaxion house.

The car had 3 wheels, a top speed of 128mph, and 36mpg fuel efficiency. Plus, it looked like an art-deco rocket ship. The house was a modular, pre-fab, energy efficient tensile structure designed for mass production based on war effort aircraft manufacturing.

Fuller was way ahead of his time and a hero of 20th century innovation in service of humanity. Buckminster is also a great middle name.
