I'm mostly lurker too, and I've been here since the early days when there were only like 7 active users. Endlesssunflowers has been providing almost daily content for this site for 2+ years, out of the goodness of their heart, for free. If you want more engaging content I suggest you provide it instead of concern trolling saidit to take a swipe at someone you dislike. I'm not a fan of the ethno-nationalist bullshit that pops up here (I appreciate that it can, just rather it didn't) which certainly has more potential to turn off new users than a sentimental meme, but I've never felt the need to call anyone out by name for failing to meet my specific content quality and engagement needs, or tell M7 & D3rr how to curate their own project. This post is honestly the first time in my entire saidit experience I wish there was a downvote button. Bravo.

[–]DrStrangelove 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Masks have nothing to do with public health, their purpose is entirely psychological. For those who understand this, being forced to wear one is a humiliation ritual.

For the true believers it's a placebo and security blanket. For the un-critical, indifferent majority it's a mild anoyance but "when in Rome..." For the insecure & self-conscious, it's a way to hide in public. For petty tyrants and insufffurable moral busyboddies, it's the perfect opportunuty to exert illigitimate authority, self rightous condemnation, and discriminatory segregation upon thier fellow man.

Masks are a wearable flag, a pledge of allegiance to the narrative, an in-group/out-group signifier, and a holy religious garment. They are a means of de-personalization, a symbol of submission, a subtle, subconscious AND literally in-your-face visual cue to remain afraid, and most of all a marketting gimmick for a diablical global genetic engineering experiment.

Most of my life I assumed as "common sense" that overpopulation was an inevitable threat to mankind. This old James Corbett report changed my mind: https://www.corbettreport.com/the-last-word-on-overpopulation/

Overpopulation is a myth created to further a global eugenics agenda. Even if it were a legitimate threat, the solution is expanding the frontiers of human habitation; seasteading and spacefaring, not culling and sterilization.

Liberal, but I'm not sure that word means what I think it does anymore. Maybe it never did.
I believe in the maximization of freedom and the minimization of tyranny. I dislike hierarchy, abhor bureaucracy, and the only authority I grant any legitimacy is my own over my self. Voluntaryist, Anti-Authoritarian, or Classical Liberal with deep anarchist sympathies might be more accurate.

FWIW: Every few years since it came out in 2001, I retake the politicalcompass.org test to loosely gauge if and by how much my politics have changed with age/experience/wisdom/brain-damage. I consistently score in the far bottom-left quadrant (left-libertarian).

There were a number of hospitalizations and a few deaths in the late summer/fall of 2019 across the US attributed to e-cig vaping cartridges. The symptoms appeared a lot like covid; shortness of breath, scarred lungs, pneumonia. A medium sized media scare campaign lead to an FDA emergency ban on flavored vape juices. The culprit allegedly turned out to be Vitamin E acetate added to some black market THC marijuana cartridges, but the timing and similarity to covid is pretty eerie in hindsight.

I'm typing this on an old macbook pro running linux. I'm not aware of face id being required for anything yet, but that is definitely the direction apple (and everyone else) is going. If you are familiar with macOS I would recommend trying out Ubuntu.

It's pretty easy to create a live dvd or make a bootable USB drive and give linux a test drive without making any permanent changes to your computer.

If you decide you really like linux you can install it fully from the live dvd or usb drive.

No need to swap hard drives, but that's pretty easy too. All you need is a phillips head screwdriver (and maybe a torx driver). ifixit.com has tons of crowd sourced instructions and how-to videos.

Wuhan was a pilot city for 5G rollout, and the Diamond Princess uses SES satellite internet services (60ghz range, 5g equivalent). Millimeter wave tech was originally developed by the US Military as a non-lethal weapon system (at 95ghz):

The Active Denial System (ADS) is a non-lethal, directed-energy weapon developed by the U.S. military, designed for area denial, perimeter security and crowd control. Informally, the weapon is also called the heat ray since it works by heating the surface of targets, such as the skin of targeted human subjects.

Little St. James Island is a red herring; look into Zorro Ranch just south of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Short version: just a few months after the observatory got locked down tighter than Mike Pence’s asshole for a week by federal law enforcement, Jeffy’s secrets were headline news in Florida. The observatory is almost directly south of Zorro Ranch. What would be needed for a modern political/Hollywood blackmail op? A thick pipe: lots of bandwidth and storage. The kind of bandwidth and storage that’s needed for flawless observations of heavenly bodies. I’m saying the observatory, where one janitor was arrested for “using the computers for child porn,” was Epstein’s deadman switch, which is why no vast flood of blackmail info on celebs and pols hit the media when Epstein didn’t kill himself.

The Orville is absolutely the spiritual successor of Star Trek, and it’s fantastic.

Legit, it's even in his wikipedia:

In 1951, along with many other Ivy League alumni, Buckley was recruited into the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA); he served for two years, including one year in Mexico City working on political action for E. Howard Hunt;[23] who was later jailed for his part in the Watergate affair. The two officers remained lifelong friends.[24] In a November 1, 2005, column for National Review, Buckley recounted that while he worked for the CIA, the only employee of the organization that he knew was Hunt, his immediate boss.

But as they say, once a company man...

*edit: He might have been a stooge within the CIA, as in rich kids playing spy

Has she ever taken a position on 1A, freedom of speech, and internet censorship? I've searched but have found nothing relevant. That singular issue is my personal litmus test. I want to like her, but I'm suspicious of my own inclinations. In interviews she comes off as naive but passionate, which isn't the end of the world, maybe even the perfect way to start a political career. My worst fear is that her current rising star is a media charade, designed to capture and steer the Bernie wing back to the corporate democrats.

Yikes, I had no idea Saidit utilized patreon until I saw your comment. To be honest my immediate, admittedly paranoid reaction was to delete the post out of concern for the site. Then, I didn't. That my first thought was to self-censor out of fear of reprisal precisely exemplifies the chilling effect that online censorship and deplatforming is having on public discourse. I love Saidit. What you and D3rr have created is awesome. It is, in my humble opinion, a bright shining beacon of hope for what the internet was supposed to be. Bitcoins are on the way.

Also FWIW, may I suggest looking into subscribestar? I know nothing about them other than a number of alt. media content creators have moved to them recently as an alternative fundraising platform.
