Pretty much any medication that is ostensibly used to treat chronic conditions actually is bad.

Trials are typically run with surrogate endpoints, with very little attention to long-term efficacy, especially for functional endpoints that really matter. And evaluating safety over extremely long periods of time, ie years, is financially impossible to do, and therefore unheard of. Not to mention the difficulty in studying drug interactions taken over long periods of time.

Modern acute medical treatment, on the other hand, is quite beneficial, and I do believe in it. Probably mid western doctor does too, but I’m not going put words in his mouth.

No, if you click through and read through the articles, he actually does reference peer reviewed medical journal articles. But yes, he cites a lot his own work, because I think he’s assuming that most people are not conversant with the medical literature and associated technical jargon. He’s writing for the lay person mostly. Anyway, some of the things he talks about I am familiar with as having been supported by peer reviewed research. In particular, the whole sugar versus fat debacle is one that I’m pretty familiar with.

And yes, statins are bad. SSRIs are bad. PPIs are bad. Not sure about ibuprofen, but I wouldn’t overuse it. Even though my spouse does.

I’ll be honest, as someone who voted for Trump, I am alarmed by some of the methods, while simultaneously recognizing that there may have been no other way to (eg) dismantle USAID and accomplish some of the other apparent goals.

That is to say, I approve of most of the outcomes so far, while I have reservations about some of the means. I think we’re charting some dangerous territory, that’s all I’ll say.
