As a young lesbian who struggled with these questions when around the time I came out, I can say that there is nothing wrong with you. Right now, you might not feel like it, but that is the truth and I can assure you of that. Furthermore, there are studies that shows that families who have a gay uncle/lesbian aunt have larger chace of surviving then the families that don't have it. If you are religious, you could see that fact as a sign that gay people is Gods way to make sure that we don't become to many, and a way to make a family focus to keep the children they already have alive, instead of getting many children in hope that some of them should survive. That was a fact that helped me when I was struggeling, so I really, really hope that it can help you too.

We might not change each others mindsets while discussing, but I have learned much about my own opinions when I had to defend them in a fair discussion. I had to reflect on why I believe in certain things and that sometimes ended up cementing the things I already believed in and other times not. (I have to admit, those sorts debates helped me to grow out of my very narrow SJW "Kill-anything-I-don't-agree-with-with-fire" mindset, so I might be a bit biased...) Goodbye and have a good life!

You are almost right but not quite. Bioessentialism is the theory that the behaviour/traits of an individual is determined by their genes/biology. According to this theory, the environment is completely irrelevant for how the individual will choose to act. There is still much we are unsure about, but what we do know today is that both the genetic makeup AND the environment play a part.

At 17 I started thinking I was bi for months because it became clear that I like males, but I was still trying to convince myself that I liked females too. Then I finally realised I had no attraction to females whatsoever, that I’m just gay. I’m not the only gay guy who has been through this<

I did the same thing when I was in my early teens. I tried so hard to like men, only to release that I never would be able to. At least not in the way that I liked other women in.

When you look at the chemical structure of breast milk, it will change as the baby grows. At first, it will be a thick, fat milk, full to the brim with nutrients and other things the baby needs to survive their first weeks. You could say that it's a health boost that the mother gives her baby. Later, it will become a thinner milk, that satisfy the baby's hunger. The formulas is a imitation of this late-stage kind of milk, which means that the babies that only get feed formula misses out on the natural health boost.

My girlfriend broke up with me little over a week ago, and it still hurts like hell. She was moving away to begin her studies and we both felt like long distance wouldn't work out. The thing is, I had anticipated that this would happen. She had grown incredibly distant during our last months together and even took a summer job, in a another city, stretching the entire summer, without telling me. We had already made plans for the summer, so I got quite hurt when I heared that she had tossed them all aside to take this job. (To make it worse, I heard about her getting the job from her mother as she was asking me for more details about it, not from her.)

I'm just very sad, a little hopeless and more angry then I thought I would be. My sister keeps telling me that she was no good for me and that I should find someone better, but I saw a future with this girl. Do any of you have any tips on how to move on?

You have nothing to worry about. It's biological impossible to do a successful uterus transplant on a male. His immune system would reject it violently and, unless he took medication that suppressed the reaction for the rest of his life, it would end up killing him in the end. Furthermore, even if his body didn't attack, the rest of his body isn't build for pregnancy. The baby wouldn't get the nutrients it needed to grow and be healthy.

A study from 2018 posted on NCADV state 43.8% of lesbians and 61.1% have been raped, stalked, or abused by their same sex partnered

I tried to find the actual study that you mentioned, but the only thing that I found was a fact sheet. It looked professional, but it didn't follow the scientific norms on how such a sheet should look like. It doesn't mention ANYTHING of how the study was conducted or how the results were treated. There were no methodology, no summery of the discussion and no diagrams to support their claims.(There was one diagram, but that didn't show any data relevant to the study's conclusion.) Even though it seems like its from a credible source, I can't help but to feel that something smells fishy about it.

I have a simular story, with a trans woman (read, very visibly male) and two students at a summer camp. All the kids were a little on edge around him, and with good reason. He had a violent temper and verbally abused multiple kids during the first week. Anyways, shit hit the fan when he chased after two 14-year girls (Two of kids I had responsibility over.) who's only crime was leaving five minutes earlier to catch a buss. (I had given them permission to do it.) They were terrified and spend the rest of the camp in fear of him, including panic attacks as soon as they saw him.

The thing is, that it was one incident where one of the girls saw him in the corridor and ran of in panic. He followed her and tried to figure out what was wrong, but that only made it worse. He asked what was wrong; I told a lie about her having a panic attack over a test we were going to have and that I could handle it from here. The problem? He wouldn't leave. He just stood there and stared at us for what felt like an eternity (Probably 5 min) and left first after I explicitly told him to. It was really scary and felt so threatening.

I completely understand the mother's reaction (if its true), but hell, I wanted to defend my students with everything I could. I wish harm to those who creeps and scares kids.

We demand an end to ongoing studies and investigations on things we already know to be true. We know police brutality targets QTBIPOC populations. We know that environmental collapse is imminent. We know that our nation was built on genocide. We have been given clear attainable calls to action from Black Lives Matter and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.<

Ok, that is not how science works! Black lives matter was an American thing, so you CAN'T just assume that things should look the same in other countries. You need to preform studies to know how big the problem is in your country and then work to solve it if it is. And another problem of not doing any studies, is that then the problem gets so much harder to solve. If you don't know how big the problem are right here, right now, you don't know if the actions you put in to solving it actually has an effect or not!

One of my closest friends are a "true" asexual. She is completely inndifferent towards sex and romantic relationships and has been all of her life. I thought that she was a fellow lesbian for a while, cause we both expressed such a disconnect from our peers when it came to relationships with the opposite sex. Later, I understood that she holds the same attitude towards relationships, regardless of the sex of the other person involved in it. It is for people like her that the label asexual should be for. Not for identity tourists that wants to collect oppression points.

They did selective breeding on the foxes, and so they managed to make them look and act like dogs. Those genes are not connected. (There is however a fascinating phenomenon where a bit of the genetic code gets inverted and thus the inverted genes are connected, but this isn't the mechanisms behind the fox experiment.)

[–]Bright_painting 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Well, there is MINIMAL differences between a female and male brain. This have been observed mostly in the distribution of white and grey brain matter and might be the reason that women, as a group, have it easier to multitask, while men, in general, have an easier time thinking abstractly. From what I have read, there's no parts in the brain or nervous system that looks distinctively different depending on your sex, so I suspect that this med student is grasping at straws to try and give the gender ideology credibility.

I am sorry but to be honest I'm not quite sure. All I know is that the author is quite off in her definition of bioessentialism. It's not so much of assigning worth to biological reality, and more of expecting a certain behaviour from a certain individual. (A prime example is to expecting women to "act like women" just because they were born female and vice versa with men.)

[–]Bright_painting 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Actually, the Mass Effect series did this really well. Depending if you played a male or female Shepard, different people would be interested in you. Most of the romances are straight, but Liara and Kayden are bisexual and in the third game, there is a lesbian and a gay man that only will be interested in you if you play as the "right" sex. You can't turn them, they just won't be interested in you. It still suffers from the EA-romance formula, but it respects the characters' sexualities.

Hi! I can really relate to that feeling of loneliness or otherness in a group of straight girls. What I usually do in situations where I'm not comfortable coming out, is that I tell them about that cute girl I meet, except that she is a cute boy when they hear the story. That has often worked out pretty well for me, and I hope that it can help you get out of uncomfortable situation a little less panicked.

Study shows zero percent abuse rate in lesbian headed homes. Do you believe the study is accurate? by Shales123 in Lesbians

[–]Bright_painting 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They had around 80 children in the study, which means that its too small a sample to draw any general conclusions from. But what it CAN indicate, is a pattern that you can continue work with, to see if it's true or not. If I remembered how to do statistical calculations, I could calculate roughly how trustworthy the study is. But unfortunately, I do not remember how nor do I want to remember it. (Statistics was my Achilles heel ...)

I don't think that child abuse in lesbian couples are at 0%, but I do believe that it's lower than for heterosexual couples.

[–]Bright_painting 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Humans do not have phermones (like for example butterflies have), but smell certantly plays a part in attraction. The way our sweat smells is determene by our genes. You will like the smell of people with a different genome than yourself, and dislike the smell of people with a simular genome to yourself. This is a natural protection from genetic diseases and disabilities.

Do not take my word for this, but I belive that men and women smells differently because of differences on the sex-chromosomes.

It is right that humans can comminicate a few things via smell, but we don't have phermones per se. For exemple, a dog is able to tell the breed, sex, health, emotional status and much, much more just by smelling a marking left on a tree. Humans can't do that much and that's why it's generally said that we don't have phermones.

It's difficult to build a long-lasting, stable relationship and future with someone if they struggle or refuse to communicate at all.

You did put it better than I could, this is the truth that I have been refusing to see this whole time. I was in denial and thinking that all of this would magically fix itself after a while and go back as it was before. That didn't happen, but I can't stop wondering if I also bear a share of the blame by not telling her exactly how upset her behavior made me. Would we have been able to work through this issue and grown closer as a result? Would it just have been complicating an already rocky relationship and quickened it's demise? This is the sort of questions that makes my grief even more complicated.

Might sound like a silly question, but any chance she might have gotten sucked into a cult a few months ago? A MLM company?

I don't think she got into a cult nor an MLM, but something felt a little off about it. She got it from a friend and classmate of hers, and from that she got the offer until she began working, it took four days. After that, I didn't hear from her for like a month. No calls, no texts, not even a message on Snapchat. I don't know what happened, but something about it feels fishy.
