One of the most absurd claims is that there is no evidence, even if you believe Biden won the election legitimately.

Of course there's evidence. It's like thermodynamics -- depending on how you define your system the laws of thermodynamics may not apply because something right outside of your definition is going to pump energy into a system.

Likewise, of course there's evidence of fraud, there's always evidence of stuff, whether it's true or not. You can find photos that are damning, videos that are damning, written reports that are damning. Just because you can find it doesn't mean it's even necessarily true!

That goes to the way the left has turned science into a religion. Anyone who actually applies science knows that sometimes -- even often -- you end up with compelling evidence that suggests something that isn't true. You can end up with a graph that seems to perfectly prove your hypothesis and it turns out there was something else going on that made the data look more compelling than it was. Why do you think the sciences are in a crisis where most studies aren't reproducible? Why do you think that p-hacking is a thing? It's because evidence always exists, and it's just a matter of slicing the evidence to support your conclusion.

You do that if you're begging the question, but if you're seeking truth then you have to look at all the evidence, weigh it, and try to come not to the conclusion you want, but the correct conclusion.

Like I said, the claim that there's no evidence is simply proof that you aren't looking. It's offensive to anyone who is seeking truth.

As I've aged I've tempered some of my liberal views a bit.

I've realized I'm more of a social libertarian. Let people find their way to live, the state shouldn't step in and try to micromanage. If they want to sell their bodies, so be it. If they want to find a traditional marriage, so be it. People are different and not everyone has the same answer.

That being said, I've grown to appreciate the actual benefits to the traditional ways of living. The biggest corporations in the world want to eliminate the nuclear family not for moral reasons, but because it means there's way more people working and they can cut everyone's wages. If they can convince everyone that households are supposed to be 2 income, then they don't need to pay people enough to support a family. Then their buddies in the childcare industry can make a bunch of money raising everyone's kids.

In the past few months I've started seeing the Matrix. I was a useful idiot to the megacorps who want to destroy our culture in order to make more money.

Think about it: The idea that every beautiful woman instead of doing any sort of things is now selling nudes on onlyfans.... The megacorps win. Onlyfans takes their 30%, all sort of companies take their piece in terms of the equipment purchased and the services required, and all at a cost of that young woman's future.

Remember the woman who was training to be a mechanic and she had to give up that noble career for her onlyfans? You realize there's life after 30, right?

If you weren't one of her victims, I bet she was a blast to hang out with. He'll, maybe if you were one of her victims she was a blast to hang out with when things weren't terrible.

It's a dirty little secret of successful serial abusers: they aren't caricatures of dog kicking villainy. In the real world, successful serial abusers have positive attributes they use to lure their victims and also to keep them in their cage.

Someone I care about was in an abusive relationship and I also knew he person who came afterwards. The individual had surface charm and brought some positive things to the table, including a circle of friends and promises of good times. Along the way he let his circle of friends seep in while distancing the target from their other friends. Quickly he let his controlling behaviors seep into the relationship, and while it is easy to say from a distance that they should have left, he implicitly or explicitly made threats. "If you leave you will lose these friends. If you leave you won't be invited to these good times." Afterwards when the person I care about did leave, he started to make those threats manifest by trying to convince his circle of friends to stop spending time with them and to force them to stop inviting them to things.

Hitler and Stalin and Mao didn't rise to power because they were monsters, they rose to power because they could convince others to follow them. It's then that the monster comes out.

Finally, crime statistics are very clear around the world who tends to abuse people: it's family, intimate partners, friends, and acquaintances. The people closest to us are the most likely to be terrible to us. The idea of the complete stranger coming in and being monstrous is largely a myth we want to believe. Point is, we need to stop imagining that the people who can hurt us most are the other, and recognise that those who can hurt us most are familiar, people we love, people we like. The more we like them or love them, the more they can hurt us without us turning away.

I come back to 2003 a lot lately.

Maybe many users on this site weren't very old back in 2003, but back then you'd watch CNN and it was obvious what they were doing. They really really wanted war in Iraq. All the news networks did. Fox News wanted it a bit more so they made up all kinds of shit about laser cannons and the like, but nobody was even remotely pretending to not support bombing Iraq. The largest protests in human history occurred against the war, and whereas entire cities are on fire right now and it's "Mostly peaceful protesters", they found a couple folks in the periphery getting in a fight and focused on that "You should never fight at a protest!"

Just because it's on the left this time instead of the right doesn't make it any less obvious what they're doing, and as far as I'm concerned, the people who fall for the media today are the same people who would be angry at sadman insane for causing the 7/11 attacks.

I just spent quite a bit of time working with lotide, an open source federated link aggregator and forum.

https://sr.ht/~vpzom/lotide/

There's more information on their own instance:

https://narwhal.city/communities/12

Federation is basically the ideal solution for censorship. Different communities can run their own instances that are operated according to their own community standards, and where censorship exists the network can route around the damage.

Even better is that because lotide uses the activitypub protocol, you can subscribe and interact with communities from different software such as mastodon, pleroma, friendica, etc.

Imo, decentralization is the only way we can win against big tech.

I'd hope the ideas are bigger than the man.

There was always a chance that the guy who made billions selling an idea and not usually delivering would sell the idea but not deliver. The idea isn't going away, though.

The idea that the powerful are corrupt and out to screw you over. The idea that a society based on freedom and equality is actually worth something and something to be proud of compared to despotic regimes. The idea that nobody should be ashamed of who they are based on their skin color or gender or who they want to sleep with. The idea that we should be proud of building something, that just pushing soldiers around and pushing resources around and living on borrowed money forever is an unsustainable model. The idea that we should stand up to tyrants instead of supplicating to them.

He didn't deliver, but he reminded people that they wanted better. They wanted better when they voted Barack Obama into office, and frankly they still do want better. Biden was never going to do it. Maybe nobody will. Maybe nobody can.

I think that at this point a lot of people are changing their viewpoints not because objective reality has changed, but because it feels like cognitive dissonance to simultaneously believe that George Floyd was murdered and should not have died and a police system that allowed that and possibly let Chauvin walk needs to be modified, and that the resulting death and destruction is beyond reprehensible and is inexcusable and the police need to step in and start using real force to protect the majority's rights from violent mobs if need be.

I think it's safe to say that Trump isn't as good as they say, and he isn't as bad as they say.

He isn't as good as they say because he spent 4 years on twitter talking about all the great things he'd do, but he didn't do any of them. Assange and Snowden haven't been pardoned, all these great documents haven't been declassified, he didn't force congress to balance a budget, he vetoed fewer bills than any president for the past 100 years, he never did get the hang of hiring administrators who weren't already part of the establishment.

He isn't as bad as they say because he spent 4 years on twitter talking about all the terrible things he'd do, but he didn't do any of them. He didn't lock up his political enemies, he didn't make any sweeping cuts to the government, he didn't go out starting all the wars people assumed he would, he didn't play the dictator card when he could have.

In my view, the past 4 years have done more to show people how fascistic the left has become. Trump tried to run the country, the Democrats spent 4 years trying to hang Trump's friends with frivolous investigations and and court cases, and use illegitimate means to hang him for the crime of winning an election they thought they deserved to win. Now they're forcibly silencing him using their 'friends' in the megacorps. They may have won the battle, but a lot of people saw something they can't support, and I think a lot of long-time democrat supporters have turned their backs on the Democrats as a result.

Absolutely true, all of it.

The people who I hear calling for communism don't want to work at all and expect that under it they won't have to work. Meanwhile, people have to go out and make sacrifice -- There's people who live at a remote site for months at a time to make sure the world has metals. There's people who have to live on a farm and work their asses off all the time to grow the food we eat. There's people who need to work in stinky, hot, gross processing plants and factories to make the stuff we like. There's people who have to be away from their families for weeks at a time on the road transporting goods either across oceans, or across landmasses.

In my opinion, the people who are begging for communism would like to make all those people slaves so someone else can work and they can just have the fruits of all that sacrifice given to them. It doesn't work that way for all the reasons.

I have to disagree a bit. It isn't just about bannings.

The problem isn't who Reddit bans, it's who is systematically silenced among all mainstream platforms.

For example: the right oppressed and attacked the lgbt for a long time, silenced them, forced them to hide themselves, arrested and mocked and publicly shamed them and destroyed their careers (sound familiar?). A direct result of being freed from those chains is the pride events everywhere. People ask "why are they proud to be gay? I'm not proud to be straight!", But that shows a lack of understanding, that they needed to be quiet, to pretend they were something they weren't, because they knew the mob would come for them.

For years now, people on the left and the right have been silenced by the nu-left. Opposing opinions weren't debated but actively silenced, and in a growing number of cases people track down their political enemies and try to use the dominance of the nu-left ideology to have those enemies destroyed. In the past 2 months, mass violence has been treated as justified and massive companies around the world have spoken up in support of this ideology.

With the rise of alt-tech platforms and certain wins for personal expression that have emboldened people, people are finally for the first time in years having a chance to say what they think.

"Why are so many right wing views being espoused on these platforms?" -- well, for one thing a lot of the opinions aren't necessarily right wing, they're just not nu-left orthodoxy. One of the techniques the nu-left uses is to paint all dissent as extreme right wing. That being said, we are seeing certain opinions a lot for the same reason that there are gay pride parades and until recently there weren't straight pride parades: nobody has needed to fear speaking their nu-left views. They have had full support of the establishment for decades, there's no pent up desire to express those, and no reason for individuals for those views to find a new platform to express them. It's the majority, silenced by power seeking bullies, who have opinions counter to the nu-left orthodoxy that are finally being freed to express themselves.

I think science worship is a good choice of words, because it isn't actually being a practicioner of science.

Everyone will always twist whatever the greatest power is to get what they want. When I worked at a union facility, every loudmouth had reasons why the union wanted them to get their way. When I worked at a facility with a strong safety culture, every loudmouth had reasons why safety wanted them to get their way. When I worked at a facility with a real ball buster at the top, every loudmouth had reasons why said ball buster wanted them to get their way. In broader society, when religion was powerful, people used religion to silence the people they didn't like. Now that social justice is powerful, you can find articles from psychpaths explaining why virtually everything on the planet is against social justice and needs to be ended.

This is just more of the same. Science isn't being used as a tool to seek truth, it's being used as a bludgeon to force people to comply. Having the wrong (true) data is a great way to get cancelled. Having the wrong (facially correct) conclusions is a great way to get cancelled. If these people were around in the days of phlogestin theory, they'd be attacking people talking about oxidation because their political arguments would rely on phlogestin theory. These are the exact same people who arrested Galileo and charged him with heresy.

Personally, I think it's because the devs haven't pushed it very much so the critical mass of users hasn't happened yet.

I was looking for a federated link aggregator for a while, and Lemmy is one (it isn't ideal for a free speech platform for various reasons), but I found Lemmy wasn't really easy to install which is why there's only a few servers.

Looking at lotide, there were three problems: The lack of basic install guide for someone who is completely unfamiliar, the default theme makes it look like crap and is basically useless for mobile, and there's virutally nobody getting the word out there.

I think that with the recent rectification of the first two issues, I could see it becoming much more popular. Especially if people know it exists which is a function of people talking about it.

One black speaker I listen to often points out that the welfare system and the family law system and various other government actions have promoted black women not staying with black men who father their children. 56% of kids are born without fathers in the black community.

We know from the data that the nuclear family is actually not a bad thing. In fact, fatherlessness is shockingly bad. 80% of violent rapists were raised by a single mother. An overwhelming amount of violent crime in general is committed by people raised by a single mother.

In the name of protecting people, the government is creating and perpetuating a system that further drags down one ethnic group.

Lives don't matter

People die all the time, and I can't mourn for every one.

My grandmother died in a car accident last week. She was 97, and survived the great depression, the Holocaust, and in a time where it was unheard of she raised my mother while putting herself through college as an engineer. She designed analog computers using discrete components before digital technology was really widespread, and to this day her designs control some of the most important industries in the world. Does her life matter?

Of course it doesn't, because I made all that up! Her life matters just as much as any person you don't have any connection to whatsoever dying -- which is to say, none!

To me, the thing that changed is we went from being able to argue and disagree and have a beer afterwards to arguing and going after each other's real lives. The moment the psychos stopped letting it be a conversation and turned it into threats to destroy people's lives for disagreeing (or just silence them altogether) was the moment it stopped being fun to argue on the Internet.

I think we need to be careful not to forget, like a lot of things there's a kernel of truth inside the giant ball of popcorn that is the bullshit of the riots.

People who interact with the state shouldn't end up dead, but every year about 1,000 Americans do end up dead. Some of the stories of those deaths are absolutely reprehensible, such as the individual who was shot to death while asleep in their bed during an incorrect no-knock raid.

It's important to remember that we are on the right side of justice, and they're a mob. That means that they are free to murder babies and innocent children and they feel justified because they are monsters, where we might shoot an armed and immediately aggro individual and question whether we were justified.

In this light, the Chief isn't wrong, he's just proving that he cares about justice, and the mob has proved time and time again that they don't.

An actual worshipper of science would always have to be open to being proven wrong, which would not benefit the political or religious folks who need science to agree with them.

I agree with you, except that there's something else that nobody is thinking about: rising inflation will necessarily require higher interest rates. Investors don't tend to just give away money, they are lending their money with the expectation that they make some money back.

There are people who have absolutely no business owning a million-dollar house who have a million-dollar house because you can get a mortgage for less than 2% right now. The historical average 4 mortgage has been kind of messed up in the past 20 years because of all of the attempts to keep the real estate bubble going, but generally speaking the average over the past hundred fifty years has been something like 8%. for an overwhelming majority of homeowners, if mortgage rates reach 8%, those people's lives are over. in some areas you can walk away from the mortgage and just hand the keys back to the bank, but in a lot of places that's not actually an option. In a lot of places if you can't afford to pay your mortgage, you still owe your mortgage.

the other thing that will come out of such a thing will be government bonds will rise. This is happened within most of our lifetimes. If you ask a baby boomer, around the same time that their mortgage was 20%, you can invest your money in the government bonds and be making 30%. It was absolutely insane. A lot of people lost everything, and a lot of other people made their Fortune just saving money. The downside to high government Bond rates is the money to pay for the privilege of borrowing money rises. I'm not talking about the amount of money to pay back government debt, I'm talking about him the amount of money to hold government debt. In 2008ish, when Central Bank rates were actually very low, the amount of maintenance on 8 billion dollars of debt was about 400 billion dollars. if you scale that up to the current debt, you're looking at spending more money just maintaining the debt then you pay for most things in the government. You would be representing something like 80% of personal income taxes collected, something like five times the corporate income tax collected, more than the entire withholding tax, twice what the US spends every year on the military, an absolutely massive amount of money. That money doesn't go to do anyting, it's completely non-productive money. It will have to be collected as taxes, but it will go directly to Banks and they will be absolutely no services provided by the government for that money. The likelihood is that taxes at all levels of government will go up massively.

Venezuela's currency has been in free fall for years. The Venezuela 10Y Government Bond has an estimated 46.582% yield, and a near 100% likelihood of default. The inflation over the past few years has seen the buying power of a bolivar drop hundreds of thousands of times. It's hell. People are mining bitcoin hoping to get enough sustainable currency to buy food.

Imagine at the same time that the amount of spending that your daughter will do drops, the number of dollars that you're getting are also dropping because taxes are going up at a meteoric rate.

I called back in March when I first heard about everything they were doing for the coronavirus, stagflation is coming. People talk about the baby boomers and how easy they had it because their $30,000 houses became half million dollar homes, but we're about to find out that it was unimaginably difficult.

the socialists and ubi proponents have gotten to live their dream for the last 3 months, I think very soon we will be seeing the other side of the Utopia, when you run out of other people's money to spend.
