Honestly these kinds of posts remind me of the sex callers we would get on the crisis hotline I worked at years ago. Creepers would call in with some crazy scenario “I don’t know what to do because my son keeps stealing my douches, etc,” and it’s clearly a man pretending to be a woman and getting off on me or another worker trying to help.

I think the specific problem of white women and feminism may not apply to your cultural experience. In the US it’s a very big deal. Black women were systematically excluded from the US suffragette movement, for example.

Feminism is for women, and we would be ridiculous to conclude that the experiences that impact women of different races or cultures are not relevant. They are relevant. There’s billions of women in this world who are not white, and their voices should be heard and we should make space for that. No one is free unless we all are.

The differences in their early socialization as males or females is what leads to this. The behavior smacks of male privilege. Women never had or have that, so they don’t carry it forward when the transition

Men suffer from the patriarchy too. They need to dismantle it from within. It’s not women’s fault that increasing our access to rights makes men feel as though they somehow have less.

Also, it’s so annoying that clothes preferences are somehow proof of a person’s gender. I have regularly worn men’s clothes until my hips and ass got too big to do so. I wear men’s shoes still. I have never once wanted to be a guy. It’s so fucking stupid that children are receiving this diagnosis because they don’t/do want to wear pink. How would we know if a child was trans without the color pink? Because I see far too much of this argument: a girl doesn’t like pink, so she’s a boy. A boy does like pink so he’s a girl. This is 1st grade logic if I ever heard it.

Her language strikes me as someone who has a personality disorder. I think there are kids out there who are suffering from a form of medical child abuse by parents who push for this. I think there’s more Munchausen by Proxy/factitious disorder with kids who are transitioning at young ages than people may realize.

I’ve worked with ASD folks in therapy, and many of them have said they take things at face value, they don’t see the hidden motives behind what people are trying to do. They can’t imagine why someone would appear helpful yet harbor a secret agenda to actually be harmful. I don’t know if that’s true for you, but for the folks I’ve known it has caused them to get into terrible relationship and other social situations.

Thank you for sharing your story. It’s important to have voices like yours telling about these experiences. Teenagerhood is a time of exploring your identity, and not everything you think you are one day will be the same the next. I’m glad you took time to explore and think about these things before taking actions. And now you’ll have the knowledge going forward to ask critical thinking questions about why people are so invested in getting you to do something in the future.

Good for you for going to therapy, and not one who would immediately affirm you. Therapy should challenge a person, and if it’s easy all the time with simple solutions to complex issues — it’s not actually therapy. As a result, you won’t have to suffer the emotional and physical problems hormones and surgeries cause. I hope everything in your life is smoother sailing going forward!

[–]Badmammajamma 22 insightful - 1 fun22 insightful - 0 fun23 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It’s biology. You can’t change how women and men walk, for instance. You can practice, but the reality is women tend to have larger hips and walk differently. Women don’t have heavy brow ridges that men have. Hands and feet and height are typically smaller overall. And mannerisms and speech patterns. Women move, gesture, and speak differently than men do. Putting all of that together, your brain reads this person as female.

I personally was not censored but a sub I subscribe to was - GenderCritical. I have concerns about children being allowed or encouraged to medically transition. I have concerns particularly about tween and teen girls feeling estranged from feeling like women because being a woman is has somehow become very narrow - super feminine, super into looks, makeup, fillers, Instagram, etc, and thus decide they must be a boy and start binding and developing a Dysphoria that wouldn’t exist otherwise. I have concerns that women and lesbians are told voices and experiences are not relevant, that only the oppression of trans people matters and not the oppression of women. I don’t like being told I can’t use the word uterus or that breastfeeding triggers someone else’s Dysphoria and thus women should not discuss their experiences and relations to their own bodies because of someone’s feelings.

I’m exceptionally liberal. I have dated trans people. I have been involved in the queer community. I lived in hyper liberal places, and it concerns me that these very very liberal folks are demanding censorship to preserve their feelings. I am a mental health counselor and quite frankly, Dysphoria is a personal problem. I believe that trans rights should be protected because I believe in equal rights for all human beings. I respect pronouns, I don’t care if you want to change your body to live as you see yourself, provided you are an adult. But I do not believe I should be told I cannot discuss my own bodily or lived experience because it makes someone feel “triggered.” I believe women have the right to have spaces for women who were born and socialized as women from in utero.

Radical feminism is failing because it’s too racist by [deleted] in GenderCritical

[–]Badmammajamma 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Feminism does have a white privilege problem. It is as old as the movement of feminism itself. Not that all feminists are racists, but that white folks benefit from the systemic racism that exists in the world and which we may perpetuate without even knowing it.

Whether OP is a troll or not, I think acknowledging a WOC’s POV that they experience racism within the movement is important.

It was a women’s group on Facebook. Not GC page specifically, but started off by saying the group needed to be more aware of language around periods, pregnancy, etc. As in we can’t offend people by saying women have periods because that’s not inclusive of transfolks.
